Tottenham Hotspur still need to sign a striker to replace Harry Kane almost a year later, and one name on their wishlist is still of interest to them as the summer window ticks on.

Gimenez is one of many names on Tottenham’s radar

Naturally, having scored 26 goals in all competitions for Feyenoord last season, Santiago Gimenez has been a person of interest for Tottenham and many other clubs so far this summer.

Spurs are seemingly in no rush to land a new striker, though that role is believed to be high on the agenda for this current transfer window.

And, according to reports from TuttoJuve, Gimenez is still a player Tottenham are interested in, with a move for the Mexican forward being considered by the Lilywhites.

That is as much as the report offers on the matter, but it also cites Jonathan David and Federico Chiesa as potential attacking additions to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Meanwhile, it looks like Spurs have “ruled out” any interest in Ivan Toney or Dominic Solanke.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs face competition for Gimenez

Tottenham are not alone in their supposed pursuit of Gimenez, though. Apparently, AC Milan are also prepared to push ahead with a move for the Feyenoord star (Tuttosport via MilanNews).

Fellow Italian giants, AS Roma, are also believed to be very keen on signing the 23-year-old and are desperate to win the race for his signature (Il Tempo via Roma Press).

And, a lot closer to home, it is suggested Arsenal may be thinking about throwing their name into the hat for Gimenez, too (Standard).

Spurs Web Opinion

Gimenez is a great striker who has shown what he is capable of with a phenomenal campaign, and there is every chance he would be a success at Spurs.

But, for every player who has come to the Premier League from the Netherlands and been a success, there have been many who have failed to make the transition, and that worries me.

Opinion: Djed Spence deserves another chance at Spurs

Description

I will not lie to you, I waited to write this article until I saw Djed Spence board the plane for the Asian Tour before I hit submit. Shame me, I don’t care. But I let out a sigh of relief knowing that this article would not get written in vain.

Why?

Because Spence deserves a second chance.

Djed Redemption at Tottenham?

Now, deserves might be a strong word to use. But without any context as to behind-the-scenes dealings with him at Genoa or Rennes, or conversations between Spence and Ange Postecoglou, we are only grasping at what media coverage has given us in the past.

First, it started with our previous manager Antonio Conte labelling Spence as a “club signing.”(Talk Sport) After not breaking into the first team at Tottenham, he was loaned out to Rennes for a portion of the season.

Then came the switch to Postecoglou and many expected Spence to get the chance to shine his immense talent. Unfortunately, Ange didn’t see a place for him on the first team with Pedro Porro and Emerson Royal locking up the top two spots. So it was decided he would be loaned out to Leeds United.

But more bad news followed him. A knee injury sidelined him for two months and he was limited to 7 starts for the Championship division team (OneSport). Then came the shocking news that his loan was cut short, then followed up with a scathing report that exposed his poor timekeeping at Tottenham and Leeds United (ESPN). He was allowed to leave the club permanently but no suiters came his way.

This leads us to today. With his career on a lifeline, enough of those experiences could either break or make an individual’s career. At the ripe age of 23, he’s young enough to be given grace, but old enough to know better. The talent has always been immense in Spence. His former manager Neil Warnock, stated that Spence was destined for “Premier League or Non-League (Express).”

MORE SPURS STORIES

When you watch him play, he tends to glide on the pitch with his movements. His silky smooth dribbles through defenders are a thing of beauty that I would love to see more of. He knows how to find spacing on the pitch and has enough vision to guide the ball for plenty of scoring opportunities. Sadly, the question happens to be, does Spence want it more than we want it for himself?

In his first game of preseason against Hearts, he registered a goal and an assist. He provided a performance that made my eyes light up and remember the kind of talent I was rooting to play for the Spurs for the past 2 years.

Against Queens Park Ranges, he had a couple of key passes and won a couple of duels. While against lower competition, it’s the glimpses of his play that remind me of a player who ripped up the competition when he played at Nottingham Forrest.

What next for Djed Spence?

I believe he has the talent to be a starter on a few Premier League teams. I also believe he provides a better option to Porro in case of injury or suspension.

Offensively, he would be a terror to many teams to track down the right-hand side due to his speed and lengthiness on the ball. And while I believe he can improve his defensive standing, he’s athletic enough to track back and make up for any mistakes.

The thing about second chances is that not everybody gets them. Many people get that. But if you have talent, you’ll get more than you probably deserve. And that happens to be the case for Spence in my belief.

It has already been reported that Spence has impressed coaches since his return to N17 per Paul O Keefe (X). I’ve seen enough to say that I would LOVE for him to be covered for Porro, especially if Royal is allowed to leave via transfer.

I believe he provides another dynamic option for Postecoglou. But the question is ultimately, does Ange see him as part of his plans or is this preseason just an attempt to drive his value up for a permanent transfer?

I’m praying Spence has a long-term future here with the Spurs but it could be possible that the decision has already been made.

HITC and Graeme Bailey report that Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham United are all showing interest in the same Bayern Munich player this summer.

Tottenham may need a new right-back this summer

Rumours are that Emerson Royal could be on his way out of Tottenham this summer, with AC Milan looking to re-open talks with Spurs over a potential summer deal (CaughtOffside).

Pedro Porro appears to be Ange Postecoglou’s undisputed first-choice right-back ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, but Djed Spence has also impressed in pre-season.

Spence, who was loaned out to Genoa last season, was one of Tottenham’s best players against Hearts and Queens Park Rangers last week. He also made the squad for Spurs’ pre-season tour of Asia.

Tottenham are interested in Noussair Mazraoui

Bayern Munich have reportedly told Noussair Mazraoui that he is free to leave the club this summer, and there is interest from Spurs, Man United and West Ham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Moroccan international has been offered to the Premier League trio, and Bayern are charging around £25m for his services.

He joined Bayern in 2022 on a free from Ajax, but intermediaries are now offering him to clubs around Europe and Saudi Arabia, with Spurs, West Ham and Man United all said to be shopping for right-backs.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Tottenham do need a backup right-back for Pedro Porro this season, but there are still plenty of things that need to happen before they even think about signing anyone.

One, Emerson Royal needs to be sold. Two, Postecoglou needs to decide whether Djed Spence is worthy of a chance in the squad this season.

Description

The Mirror report that an unnamed Premier League club is in talks to sign an 18-year-old South Korean starlet, Yang Min-hyeok, from Gangwon FC (11:15 – 22/07/24).

Tottenham are heading to South Korea

Tottenham Hotspur landed for their pre-season tour of Asia this afternoon, with Heung-min Son’s native South Korea on their list of destinations for the next couple of weeks.

Spurs are scheduled to play Bayern Munich in Seoul on August 3, as well as a K-League All-Star team a few days before that. But Tottenham could be doing a little scouting too.

Rumours are that a Premier League club is currently in talks with Gangwon FC over the potential transfer of their highly-rated young winger, Yang Min-hyeok.

Tottenham could be the secret Premier League club

The Mirror report that Tottenham are ‘being mooted’ as Yang Min-hyeok’s next destination, but Southampton have also been linked with the 18-year-old.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Yang Min-hyeok only signed his first professional contract last month and will actually play Tottenham in the K-League XI on July 31.

Any deal will likely include Yang Min-hyeok being loaned back to Gangwon FC for another season, and the club have announced that CEO Kim Byung-ji will reveal details of the deal on a YouTube livestream on July 28 or 29.

Spurs Web Opinion:

It would make perfect sense for the mystery club to be Tottenham. We are literally playing against the starlet next week and we have that magic Heung-min Son factor too.

I love that Spurs are investing so much time, effort and money in youth under this new rebuild and we should be in for some exciting days when the youngsters in question start to come through.

Report: Tottenham make approach to sign 19

Calcio Lecce report that Tottenham have made an approach to US Lecce this week about signing their highly-rated 19-year-old left-back.

Tottenham need competition for Udogie

It was a debut season to remember for Destiny Udogie in the Premier League last year, following his switch from Udinese. However, Spurs are now in need of competition for the left-back.

After an injury ended his season early and the youngster also picked up a red card against Chelsea, it makes sense for Spurs to have someone waiting in the wings as a backup.

Ben Davies isn’t getting any younger and is perhaps better suited to a left-centre-back role these days, while Sergio Reguilon seems destined to follow Ryan Sessegnon out the Spurs exit door.

Tottenham make a move for Patrick Dorgu

Tottenham are reportedly one of the clubs interested in a move for US Lecce left-back, Patrick Dorgu, this summer, who enjoyed a breakthrough season in Serie A last time out.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Napoli are all said to be keen on the 19-year-old, with the latter already making a bid for his services. Tottenham have also reportedly made an approach.

However, Lecce are demanding around €30m (£25m) for the youngster this summer and no club has come close to that asking price as of yet.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Signing a highly-rated teenage left-back from the Serie A… when has that ever worked for Spurs?

While Dorgu would be a great backup to Udogie, I suspect Tottenham would loan him back to Lecce for another season even if they did sign him this summer.

CaughtOffside report that AC Milan are expected to re-open talks with Tottenham Hotspur in the near future as they walk away from a deal with Aston Villa.

AC Milan and Spurs talks hit a roadblock

Emerson Royal has been linked with AC Milan ever since the transfer window first opened, and even gave an interview to Globo about how much he wanted regular first-team football next season.

Fabrizio Romano also reported that AC Milan had reached an agreement on terms with Emerson himself, which would see the Brazilian sign a five-year contract with them.

However, the price was a sticking point in the deal. AC Milan wanted to pay £8.4m for Emerson, which was rejected by Spurs because they want double that fee – £16.8m (Alasdair Gold).

GiveMeSport added that talks between Spurs and Milan had stalled, but Borussia Dortmund, Al-Nassr, and Al-Qadsiah were all still interested in Emerson.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Emerson to AC Milan may be back on

CaughtOffside now report that AC Milan will attempt to restart talks with Tottenham over a potential deal to bring AC Milan to the Serie A this summer.

It is said that AC Milan had moved on to Matty Cash as their next target when talks with Tottenham hit a roadblock, but Aston Villa’s asking price for the Poland star is simply too high.

As such, it is now expected that Milan will turn their attention to other right-back targets for the rest of the transfer window, including Emerson Royal.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I don’t think AC Milan are going to get a better right-back for £15m this summer, so it makes sense for them to haggle with Spurs a bit and meet in the middle somewhere.

Tottenham will want to get the likes of Emerson, Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon sold in the next two weeks to free up some cash.

Pundit tells Tottenham to spend big money on 'top player' from Man United

Tottenham Hotspur have a few areas they need and want to improve on this summer, with a wide attacker being high on the list. Could the answer to their problem lie at Manchester United?

Man United star has more to give

According to Jamie O’Hara, Spurs could get the best out of Marcus Rashford, and they should look to save the England forward from his troubles at Old Trafford.

He told talkSPORT: “I’ve got a soft spot for Rashford. I don’t know why because watching him last season frustrated the hell out of me. When he’s walking around at Luton and you’re thinking come on mate give me more, but he’s got star quality.

“He’s got the X-factor and if you get a manager who gets the best out of him you’re going to get a top player… He doesn’t get on with Erik ten Hag, that’s a problem that they’ve got to solve.”

On what Rashford could give the Lilywhites, O’Hara added: “He makes brilliant runs, but never gets the ball. Would you pay £80m for him? Yes I would, I would love to see him at Tottenham.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

The idea could have legs

This is not the first time Rashford has been mentioned as a possible Spurs signing. The Telegraph previously suggested Tottenham may look at Rashford as a potential replacement for Richarlison if the Brazilian were to leave the club.

Former footballer, Stan Collymore, has also cited Tottenham as a good destination for Rashford, as he believes Ange Postecoglou could get the best out of the 26-year-old (Caught Offside).

Spurs Web Opinion

On his day, Rashford can be an absolutely world-class player and one of the most dangerous attackers in the Premier League.

Like O’Hara, though, I have seen enough United games where Rashford is walking around instead of pressing with his team, and I don’t see Ange wanting that kind of poor effort in his squad.

Bissouma had a largely interrupted 2023/24 campaign with his shaky end to the season raising potential doubts over his Spurs future, but reports suggest that the club are keen to keep hold of the midfielder.

Bissouma shone in Spurs’ pre-season game against QPR

Although it was only a half of football, it was a half that promised Spurs fans the Bissouma they were promised when the Malian signed from Brighton two seasons ago.

The ex-Lille midfielder dictated play and often progressed the ball with his effortless dribbling, and his skill was rewarded towards the end of the half as Bissouma scored a sensational solo goal.

Yves Bissouma was one of Postecoglou’s stand-out performers in the opening stretch of the season, however, a second yellow card against Luton Town started to unravel the midfielder’s season.

A second red card, injuries and international duty with Malia restricted Bissouma to just twenty-six starts for Spurs, with the season-ending up being one of disappointment for the ex-Brighton man. (TransferMarkt)

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham want to keep Bissouma this summer

Despite his troubled season last year, Tottenham have no plans to sell Bissouma, according to reports from Football Insider.

This comes after a report from The Times earlier this summer indicated Spurs were willing to cash in on the midfielder in order to fund other moves this summer.

Manager, Ange Postecoglou, reportedly perceives Bissouma as a key member of his squad ahead of next season, although the Australian is sparing in his public praise for the midfielder.

He even reminded Bissouma ‘It’s only a friendly’ when he walked past the 28-year-old discussing his goal against QPR with Tottenham’s media team. (Tottenham Hotspur)

The exit of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Marseille has also likely increased the need for Bissouma to remain at Tottenham next season. (BBC Sport)

Spurs Web opinion

Although Bissouma really struggled last season, with his poor displays, or lack of ability, often hampering the team in my opinion, I would still be keen to keep him, especially following his pre-season displays which have been much closer to the Bissouma we thought we had purchased from Brighton in 2022.

I also believe that Tottenham require another defensive midfielder ahead of next season with the role becoming one that is possibly weak in strength and depth after Hojbjerg’s exit.

Report: Tottenham receive a potential boost in the race for Eberechi Eze

Spurs have been linked with Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze for some time now with the latest rumours suggesting the midfielder wants to remain in London.

Tottenham may have competition from Man City to sign Eze

Spurs were tipped to be one of the front runners to sign Eberechi Eze, who has a £60 million release clause in his contract at Crystal Palace, according to the Daily Mail.

Manchester City were believed to be, alongside Tottenham, ready to trigger the midfielder’s release clause, but then decided they wouldn’t be making a move for the 26-year-old ahead of next season. (The Athletic)

That was until reports on Kevin De Bruyne exiting Manchester City this summer. The Daily Mail revealed that City’s star man had agreed personal terms over a switch to Saudi Arabian side, Al-Ittihad.

The rumour is believed to have made Man City re-consider their stance on Eze with the Premier League champions weighing up a move. (Mirror)

MORE SPURS STORIES

Eze’s preference may hand Tottenham a transfer advantage

However, a report from Give Me Sport has revealed that Eze would like to remain in London ahead of next season.

Eze’s preference to not move away from the capital, where he currently is with Crystal Palace, may nullify Manchester City’s chances of signing the £60 million-rated midfielder and hand Tottenham a huge boost.

Spurs fans may be worried still about North London rivals, Arsenal, looking to sign Eze but Football Transfers revealed weeks ago that Eze is reportedly keener on a switch to Tottenham over Arsenal due to concerns about his playing time with the latter.

Spurs Web opinion

As the saga regarding Eberechi Eze rumbles on, the more it seems imperative that Tottenham must move fast in order to get a deal secured for the Crystal Palace man.

Manchester City as well as other top clubs will likely turn to Eze as an option should they lose one of their creative players, with the release clause effectively making any deal a free-for-all between clubs.

If rumours are true that Eze currently fancies a move to Tottenham therefore, they should act swiftly before there’s any chance that changes.

Pundit backs Premier League star to thrive at either Tottenham or West Ham

Tony Cascarino has tipped Ivan Toney to be a success at either Tottenham or West Ham with the two clubs reportedly the ones who hold the strongest interest in Brentford’s star striker.

Toney has been linked with a move away from Brentford

Brentford have, perhaps surprisingly, cut their asking price for their main man this summer from around £80 million, all the way to as low as £50 million, according to The Sun.

The cut is a culmination of Toney’s public desire to move away from Brentford, as explained to TNT Sports, the fact his contract with The Bees is expiring next season and could therefore depart for free, as well as reports that Brentford are receiving a lack of interest in the striker.

The Sun’s report claimed Tottenham and West Ham are the two most likely suitors for the 28-year-old forward as Spurs look to improve upon their current striker, Richarlison, who struggled with injuries last campaign and is now of interest to Saudi League giants, Al-Ahli. (Daily Mail)

Tottenham or West Ham would work for Toney

Whilst discussing Ivan Toney’s future on TalkSport, ex-Aston Villa and West Ham striker, Tony Cascarino, expressed his belief that the England international could work at both Spurs and the Hammers.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He said: “I personally think Toney could fit both, as long as you play a runner off him.

“When you are buying a centre-forward that leads the line and he is useful with flick-ons, holding the ball up and bringing players into play. You are looking for movement beyond. Both of them clubs have that. They have the runners beyond.

“Bowen can do it for West Ham. Son can do that and others. Brennan Johnson, he can run beyond. They have that. I wouldn’t say one is a preference for me.

“I don’t think he will go for £50 million. I would go more likely £40 million. There might be add-ons to get to £50 million. What’s Ivan now? 28? There is a player there you can utilise and get a lot from. A useful player there for somebody.”

Spurs Web opinion

I share and understand Cascarino’s theory that Toney’s hold-up play would be very successful at Spurs, due to the pace Postecoglou’s side wields on their wing.

As well as that, Toney is a very clinical finisher in the box and with Tottenham’s wingers frequently driving low crosses into the box, Toney could grab plenty of goals in lilywhite.

However, with incidents such as Toney’s ban and his publicly made statement about leaving Brentford, it would leave me with questions as to whether or not Postecoglou would want to sign a player who perhaps can be selfish in regard to his own career with the Australian unlikely to stand for anyone claiming they want to leave Spurs.
