Former Canada coach Steven Caldwell has sung the praises of rumoured Tottenham target Jonathan David, insisting that the Lille star is an all-round forward, who barely has any weaknesses in his game.

Jonathan David is in the last year of his contract at Lille

Ange Postecoglou is thought to be intent on adding more firepower to his attack before the new campaign gets underway in a little over a month.

According to various reports (including Sky Sports), one of the players who is on the Australian’s wishlist is Jonathan David, who has been prolific in Ligue 1 since his switch to Lille back in 2020.

In fact, just a couple of days ago, 90min named Tottenham as one of the two leading contenders for the 24-year-old’s signature, alongside London rivals, Chelsea.

The report asserted that the prolific striker could be available for as little as £20m this summer since he is now into the final year of his contract at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Caldwell, who worked as Canada’s assistant manager between 2019 and 2021, has now given insight into David’s game.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The former Newcastle defender told journalist Harry De Cosemo about the former Gent man: “Very good finisher, but in the red of Canada he’s been a bit hesitant in front of goal.

“He’s doing a lot of work off the ball as well, he’s a real team player, Jonathan David. He’s one of the best defensive forwards I’ve ever worked with. The cut-off, the easy passes into midfield and things like that are outstanding.

“He’s a good presser, he understands cues when to press, he’s exceptional at that, as good as anybody in the world, I would say.

“And then the other side of his game is that he’s a stocky-looking guy but he’s quicker than he looks. He can shift when he wants, and for Lille, he’s quite prolific. Normally, when he’s in front of the goal, he makes it count.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on Caldwell’s description of David, he sounds like a perfect fit to lead the line in Ange’s system.

The fact that the Lille star is available for a cut-price fee would make him an extremely lucrative option for the Lilywhites, allowing the club to spend the bulk of their budget on an attacking midfielder and a wide player.

Harry Kane has won countless personal accolades during his playing career, but none of it means anything compared to the prospect of lifting the trophy in the Euro 2024 final for England.

Kane would swap it all for Euro 2024 win

The England captain has the chance to lead his country to glory in Berlin as the Three Lions take on the much-fancied form team, Spain in the curtain closer for Euro 2024.

Speaking to The Standard ahead of the game, Kane discussed just how important it would be for him to win the tournament and finally end his own trophy drought, and was asked whether he would swap all his Golden Boot and Player of the Year awards which he scooped during his time at Tottenham Hotspur in exchange for victory over Spain.

He said: “Yeah, for sure. Of course, it’s no secret that I haven’t won a team trophy and ever year goes by I’m more motivated and more determined to change that.

“Tomorrow night I have an opportunity to win one of the biggest you could ever win and make history with my nation, [and] I’m extremely proud to be English.

“No question, I’d swap everything I’ve done in my career to have a special night and a win tomorrow evening. That’s not the case. There’s a lot of hard work until that moment but I’m really determined to make tomorrow night a special one.”

Can Kane bag his first piece of competitive silverware?

Kane’s high-profile switch from Tottenham to Bayern Munich last summer was supposed to signal the end of his wait for a major club trophy. That didn’t work out, though, with Bayer Leverkusen storming to the Bundesliga title despite Kane’s best efforts in front of goal.

The 30-year-old will be looking to go one better with England on this evening, after seeing his country fall at the final hurdle in the Euro 2020 final three years ago, losing on penalties to Italy.

Spurs Web Opinion

This has got to be Kane and England’s time for glory. They have grown into the tournament and are hitting form at just the right time, and I think the mental fortitude of the players and Gareth Southgate will get us over the line.

According to PL Brasil, Tottenham Hotspur have moved into pole position to land Palmeiras youngster Marcus Vinnicius.

Tottenham are currently frontrunners for Vinnicius

Vinnicius has been turning a lot of heads with his displays in youth football recently and it was reported by The Sun earlier this week that the Lilywhites had set their sights on the player.

The report claimed Ange Postecoglou’s side are monitoring the 17-year-old closely, with the versatile left-sided starlet said to have caught the eye of the scouts from the North London club.

The outlet explains that Tottenham’s recruitment drive is currently focused on young talents and Vinniciusis has emerged as one of the latest names on the club’s agenda.

Tottenham last raided South America for Alejo Veliz

PL Brasil claim that Spurs are not the only club interested in the Palmeiras academy graduate, who is also thought to be attracting atttention from Newcastle, Wolves and Benfica.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, it is explained that Tottenham are currently ahead of the others in the race for Vinnicius, having made advances towards his signing.

The report adds that the left-back is happy at the Brazilian club for the time being and that Palmeiras expect him to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17.

The club allegedly plan on selling the defender to a European side in two or three years for a big profit, thus complicating Tottenham’s pursuit.

Journalist says player who left Spurs this summer is waiting for decision from London club

Description

Football journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed that Ryan Sessegnon is still training with Crytal Palace and is currently awaiting a decision from the South London club regarding a potential contract.

Tottenham released Sessegnon last month

Sessegnon is now a free agent looking for a new club after Tottenham made the decision not to active the option to extend the 24-year-old’s contract by a year, allowing him to leave the club as a free agent.

The former Fulham man is now looking to get his career back on track after his injury nightmare over the last couple of years and it was reported by The Guardian last month that Fulham are re-signing the player while West Ham had also made an approach.

However, it is Palace who have pounced on the former Spurs man, with The Athletic claiming last week that the left-back is now training with the Eagles’ squad.

Sessegnon has been training with Crystal Palace

Bailey has now offered an update on Sessegnon’s future, revealing that Oliver Glasner’s men see him as someone who can offer competition to Tyrick Mitchell.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The journalist told We Are Palace about the former English U21 international: “The only thing I have been hearing is that he is still with Crystal Palace. Think they quite like him to provide competition for Tyrick Mitchell.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A move to Palace would be great for Sessegnon since he will be a good fit for Oliver Glasner’s system, with the Eagles boss preferring to play with wing-backs.

If the 24-year-old can stay injury-free (which is obviously a big ‘if’), he could become a hit at Selhurst Park and can hopefully get his career back on track.

Spurs board member shares insight on how Daniel Levy operates

Description

It would be fair to say that Daniel Levy has faced a great deal of criticism during his tenure as Tottenham Hotspur chairman, but one of his fellow board members has now offered an insight into how Levy operates.

Daniel Levy is known to work around the clock

Jonathan Turner, a Non-Executive Director at Tottenham, has been speaking to Business of Sport, and he lavished Levy with praise for his hard working attitude and the way he has taken hits over the years.

He said: “I think Daniel is one of the best entrepreneurs I’ve ever worked with. He is an incredibly good listener. He has a very long term perspective and the best founders I’ve ever worked with are ones who really have something in the long term that they want to try and achieve.

“They’re okay taking the ups and downs and the slings and arrows and the criticism and all the rest of it along the way. If you’re involved with football you have to have a thick skin, and he has a thick skin. He is a very kind and generous person, so it’s good to be around.

“But the other thing is that he works amazingly hard. If I’m in California and I call him at two o’clock in the morning, in London, I’ll get one of two things. Either he’ll pick up the phone and say, Hi, how are you? Or he’ll, he’ll send me a text saying, I’m just on the other line, I’ll call you back. And that’s unusual in any industry, it is a 24/7 business.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Levy has been at Tottenham since the ENIC takeover in 2000

Levy has endured rather vitriolic chants and protests from the club’s fans in recent years, largely down to how he runs the club and due to a perceived lack of investment in the playing squad.

There has even been murmurs of a potential takeover down the line, with investors thought to be interested in buying a stake in Tottenham (Daily Mail).

However, it is thought that, in this situation, Levy would prefer to remain in control of the club even if new investors were to come in (TBR Football).

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t think anyone would ever claim that Daniel Levy is not hard-working, and he’s certainly a very shrewd businessman.

We just need to see a bit more of a football-led approach from him and the rest of the board, but hopefully, that tide is turning now given the appointments over the past year or so.

When, where, and how to watch the Hearts vs Spurs pre

Description

Tottenham Hotspur kick off their pre-season campaign in the coming days, with a friendly against Scottish side Hearts. Here’s when the game takes place, how you can watch it, and what players will be available.

At the end of last season, Spurs rounded off the campaign with a controversial post-season friendly against Newcastle United. The game took place in Australia, just a few days after the Premier League campaign ended.

That was the last time Tottenham fans saw their players in action, so anticipation is high for the upcoming friendly against Hearts.

Ange Postecoglou may be without a few players due to international commitments, but here’s a look at what the situation may be.

When and where is the game?

Tottenham travel to Scotland to play Hearts at their Tynecastle Park stadium. The game will take place on Wednesday July 17, 2024.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The match is lined up for a 7:00PM BST kick-off.

How to watch Spurs vs Hearts

You can watch the Spurs vs Hearts game exclusively on SpursPlay. You’ll need to be subscribed to the Tottenham fan service to access the game.

Spurs vs Hearts team news

Tottenham should go into the game with a relatively full squad, with only a handful of players missing that have been taking part in Euro 2024 and Copa America.

Guglielmo Vicario, Radu Dragusin, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all saw their sides fall at the second-round stage of Euro 2024 early in July. However, they will likely be rested until later this month and given an extended break from club duty.

Meanwhile, Micky van de Ven and the Netherlands progressed to the semi-final stage, and the young defender will definitely not be asked to take part in the friendly.

Across the pond, the likes of Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso, and Rodrigo Bentancur have all been in action in Copa America, and will be in a similar position to the Euro 2024 participants.

Aside from that, there are no injuries to report at this time, so we should see a strong outing from Spurs, with a mix of experienced players and, hopefully, youngsters that have been working with the first-team squad, like Tyrese Hall and Mikey Moore.

New signings Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray could well make their Tottenham debuts.

The Spurs Web prediction

Pre-season games are often more about performance and fitness than result, so it’s hard to predict which way this one will go. You’d like to think that, whatever lineup Postecoglou goes for, we’d have enough to see off Hearts, though.

Report: Manchester United plot move for Tottenham player in cut

Description

After being sent out for back-to-back loans last season, it would be an enormous surprise if left-back, Sergio Reguilon, remained in North London next season with Manchester United interested in signing their former loanee.

Reguilon hasn’t played for Spurs since 2022

Ange Postecoglou doesn’t seem to be too keen on Spaniard, Sergio Reguilon, after the left-back was only given forty-five minutes in pre-season before being swiftly sent out on loan to Manchester United, just months after returning from a frustrating loan to Atletico Madrid.

Tottenham forked out around £25 million to lure Reguilon away from Real Madrid as well as fending off interest from other clubs who were impressed by the full-back’s performances on loan at Sevilla as they lifted the Europa League under new West Ham manager, Julen Lopetegui. (TransferMarkt)

Lopetegui is reportedly interested in working with Reguilon again at West Ham, with Manchester United also weighing up bringing Reguilon back permanently following his six-month loan to Old Trafford earlier this season, according to AS in Spain.

Tottenham are willing to accept a big loss on Reguilon

Football Insider reported on the 10th of July that Spurs were now willing to simply cut their losses on Sergio Reguilon with Daniel Levy and the club open to offers of around £10 million, despite Levy’s typical insistence to squeeze every bit of value out of his signings.

MORE SPURS STORIES

A new update on Friday from Football Insider confirms the willingness to accept a low-price deal for Reguilon has caused Manchester United to plot a move for the 27-year-old Tottenham player.

United are looking to sign a backup left back under the new investment of Sir Jim Ratcliffe with Reguilon being a target as well as Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell.

Spurs Web opinion

Reguilon played his role at both Manchester United and Brentford aptly last season with the full-back still seemingly appreciated at Brentford despite his red card against Burnley.

After last pre-season and the fact Reguilon was sent on back-to-back loans last campaign suggests that Postecoglou isn’t overly keen on the Spanish defender and Tottenham should simply secure a fee, allow Reguilon to play elsewhere and use the money to invest back into the team.

Spurs board member reveals the club's strategy for success

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are in a pretty good place right now, in both a business and a football sense. But what does the future hold?

Spurs are trying to find the balance

Speaking to Business of Sport, Non-Executive Director at Tottenham, Jonathan Turner, has offered an insight into how the club is trying to achieve success on and off the pitch, and what that balance looks like.

He said: “The strategy that we’re pursuing is a very clear one. And that strategy is to succeed on the pitch with both men’s and women’s teams. But to build a long term sustainable business.

“It’s an incredibly competitive league, which is great. That’s what we all love. We’re not frightened of the competition, but we’re also up against some very different competitors, some of which have a lot more capital than we do, and we have to find a way to compete against them.

“We want success on the pitch, but you have to balance the preservation of what is not just a company, but it’s a franchise and an institution that matters immensely not just to the fans, but within the community.”

With that in mind, Turner expands his point and outlines the manner in which Spurs can achieve these goals: “What we’re really focused on is not the mission, but it’s more… how do we execute the business plan in the optimal way to deliver that success?

MORE SPURS STORIES

“And, and that’s through the investments that we make. So we may make a very deep investment in the technology side of the business, because we think that will deliver a great fan experience. The better the fan experience, the better the engagement with the fans, and that ultimately creates value across all areas.”

Tottenham are poised for success

At present, Tottenham have one of the best stadiums in the world, and are one of the clubs in the most comfortable position in the Premier League when it comes to Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

With Ange Postecoglou at the helm, it seems the club has a clear footballing vision now, and there is a belief that trophies will follow in the near future.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s very obvious that the football club is being ran as a business first, and a football club second in many ways. That balance does need to be addressed somewhat, in my opinion, but you cannot deny that the economical and commercial side of things at Spurs are very impressive and offer us a very sustainable platform to build upon.

According to Football Insider, West Ham United have fought off interest from Tottenham Hotspur to keep hold of academy starlet, Chinaza Nwosu, who has now agreed terms on a professional contract at the London Stadium.

Tottenham miss out on promising youngster

Nwosu is reportedly viewed as one of the brightest young prospects in the Hammers academy, with the midfielder impressing for the club’s Under-18s last season despite only being just 16 years of age.

The teenager, who was named on the bench in their FA Youth Cup third-round clash last season, is thought to be the subject of interest from several top-flight sides, including Spurs.

Football Insider say that Tottenham had been in contact with the youngster regarding a move across London while Manchester City and Manchester United are also keen on the player.

Chinaza Nwosu will remain at West Ham

However, West Ham fought hard and managed to fend off the interest from those clubs to keep hold of the starlet.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is revealed that the midfielder has agreed on the terms of a contract with Julen Lopetegui’s men, which he will sign as soon as he turns 17 next year.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Nwosu might have verbally agreed a deal with West Ham, clubs would feel that the youngster is gettable until he has officially put pen to paper on a professional contract, which he cannot do until he turns 17.

Journalist says Dortmund could move for Spurs defender

Description

Journalist Ben Jacobs has named Borussia Dortmund as the potentially one to watch in the race for Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon.

Sergio Reguilon is expected to leave Tottenham this summer

It is clear that Reguilon does not have a future at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou, with the Spaniard having been shipped off on loan to Manchester United and Brentford last season.

The former Real Madrid man had been put on the shop window and several clubs have allegedly expressed interest, with Manchester United, West Ham and Juventus all named as potential destinations for the player this summer (AS).

Earlier this week, Football Insider claimed that Spurs are willing to sell the Spain international for a cut-price of around £10m and that the low asking price makes him a lucrative option for the Red Devils.

Jacobs has now revealed that Dortmund are the latest club to be eyeing a move for Reguilon after missing out on Ian Maatsen, who is now on his way to Villa Park.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Reguilon has been discussed by Dortmund chiefs

The journalist said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast about the left-back: “The only thing I would say in terms of a new suitor is that I’ve heard in the last 24 hours that Dortmund could be one to watch.

“We know that Dortmund wanted Ian Maatsen, he’s now a Villa player and Dortmund are therefore looking for a player in that position and internally they have discussed Reguilon as a possibility.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would ideally be hoping to conclude the sales of Reguilon, Emerson, Hojbjerg, Lo Celso and Spence within the next few weeks so that they can free up space in the squad and wage bill for new recruits.
