Description

Tottenham Hotspur have played their first pre-season friendly of the summer, albeit behind closed doors, and the game saw both Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall get their first minutes as Spurs players, while one established first-team player bagged a hat-trick.

Tottenham seal big win in first pre-season game

Playing at the club’s Hotspur Way training complex, Tottenham invited League One side, Cambridge United to play a private friendly. The final score ended 7-2 to the Lilywhites.

A match report from Football.London reveals key details of the game, which saw Brennan Johnson score a hat-trick in the first half, while captain, Heung-min Son bagged two goals for himself.

Spurs went in 5-0 up at half-time, while the second half was more balanced at 2-2. Teenage sensation Mikey Moore added a goal for Tottenham, while Timo Werner was heavily involved in forcing an own goal to complete the rout.

It is said Ange Postecoglou “gave a run-out to most” of his players today with “varying amounts of minutes” throughout the squad.

New players Gray and Bergvall both pulled on a Spurs shirt for the first time, coming on in the second half.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Gray played at right-back, as he has for Leeds United fairly regularly, while Bergvall was reportedly operating as a “creative presence in the midfield.”

A mix of experience and youth featured for Tottenham

Notably, Manor Solomon got his first minutes since September after overcoming a knee injury. First-team regulars Pedro Porro, Yves Bissouma, and Dejan Kulusevski played in the first half, while James Maddison, Oliver Skipp, and Emerson Royal took to the field in the second.

Interestingly, with defensive options sparse, Jamie Donley filled in at left-back in the game. Meanwhile, youngsters like 16-year-old Jun’ai Byfield, Tyrese Hall, George Abbott, and Luca Gunter all got some minutes under their belts.

Spurs Web Opinion

This sounds like exactly the kind of win you’d want and expect from Spurs for this game, and it appears Postecoglou used the opportunity to get everyone on the pitch, try out some experimental positioning, and help players gain fitness. All round, a big success.

Tottenham appear more than happy to sell right-back, Emerson Royal, this summer. It has now reported that Borussia Dortmund have entered the running for the defender, alongside AC Milan who have recently had a bid rejected.

Spurs are holding out for €20 million

Emerson Royal seems to have his eye on the Tottenham exit door with the club also willing to sanction a sale.

The Brazilian publicly expressed his desire for consistent playing time by explaining to Globo ‘I’m not a player to sit on the bench. I want to play. If not here, I understand. But let me go to a place where I play’.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on the 7th of July that Emerson has already started to push along his move to AC Milan after agreeing to a five-year deal, leaving the Italian side to thrash out a deal with Tottenham.

AC Milan did eventually send their bid to Tottenham, however as announced by Alasdair Gold, Spurs have rebuffed the bid with it not reaching their valuation of €20 million for the ex-Barcelona defender.

Dortmund have joined the race, but Emerson’s stance remains unclear

A new update from Premier League Brasil has unveiled that German giants, Borussia Dortmund, have now sent a proposal of their own for Emerson, valued at around Tottenham’s valuation, €20 million.

The report suggests that a deal can now be agreed between Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham as their bid matches their asking price, unlike AC Milan’s offer.

However, Premier League Brasil does explain that Emerson, who had agreed to a five-year deal with AC Milan, hasn’t decided on the proposal offered by Borussia Dortmund yet.

Spurs Web opinion

It can be assumed that Emerson’s decision on Dortmund’s rumoured proposal will be how much game time the Bundesliga side can ensure the player after the Brazilian expressed his desire to play often should he depart Spurs this summer.

Another club’s interest is beneficial to Tottenham nonetheless with more interest driving up the player’s value and potentially ensuing a bidding war for a player Spurs have deemed dispensable.

Report: Rumoured Spurs target's release clause is only valid for one more week

Description

Fabrizio Romano has said that the €60m release cause in Dani Olmo’s contract will expire in a little over a week, with Tottenham and other interested clubs thus needing to act fast if they wish to sign the RB Leipzig star.

Dani Olmo’s release clause is set to expire

While several outlets suggested earlier in the summer that Spurs were one of the leading contenders to secure Olmo‘s signature (Sport BILD via Sport Witness), the speculation linking the winger with a move to the North London club has died down over the last couple of months.

Other clubs seem to have moved into the front of the queue for the Spain international, with Sky Germany reporting earlier this week that Manchester City are keen on acquiring the player’s services.

On Thursday, Football Transfers claimed that Manchester United and Bayern Munich were in pole position to land the attacking midfielder, with both clubs said to have reached out to the player’s agent.

It was alleged that the Bavarians and the Red Devils were both ready to press ahead with moves for the 26-year-old once he returned from the Euros.

Olmo has expressed for Spain at Euro 2024

Romano has now said that the race for Olmo’s signature remains open, with the player’s entourage set to meet with potential suitors soon.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “I want to start with an important update on the situation of Dani Olmo. From what I’m told, there is an important detail on Olmo’s €60m release clause.

“The plan was for the clause to run until Monday 15 July, but if the Spanish national team were to reach the final of the Euros, it would then run for five more days (now until 20 July).

“I’ve been asked about reports in England linking Olmo with Chelsea, but at the moment I’m told they are not negotiating for him. Chelsea already have Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and then Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian to come later, so it’s not something concrete for Chelsea at this stage.

“But he can be an option for many other clubs. So what’s going on with Olmo? I’m told that there are meetings expected with Premier League clubs, while Bayern also appreciate this opportunity.

“But it could be really complicated to negotiate with Leipzig if they’re not fast and the date of his release clause being valid passes. It would take a lot more than €60million to sign Olmo after 20 July.”

Spurs Web Opinion

With the release clause only active for a few days after Sunday’s Euro 2024 final, I would expect a mad scramble from various sides for Olmo.

I doubt Tottenham would want to get involved in that battle, with the Lilywhites now seemingly focused on the likes of Eze and Doue.

Report: Tottenham given permission to continue big development project next to stadium

Description

Tottenham Hotspur will continue to expand its commercial ventures after receiving the go-ahead to keep building a hotel in the area adjacent to the club’s stadium.

As per a report from Football.London, Tottenham have now received the approval needed to get going on the construction of the 30-storey hotel that will sit alongside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The proposal was originally approved way back in 2016, and included other buildings around the soon-to-be-built stadium.

New plans were then put forward last year to Haringey Council, specifically for the hotel, including “design changes,” an additional six storeys, and a refined, more “slim-line” appearance to the building.

That was all accepted in December, while in March 2024, London Mayor Sadiq Khan agreed to let the construction go ahead. But, in May 2024, further amendments to the proposal were made by Tottenham with a view to carrying out “further building work to progress such as air quality, TV reception mitigation and non-road mobile machinery.”

The approval for all those changes was given on Wednesday of this week, meaning the green light is on for Spurs to press ahead with the development.

The new hotel could be ready before Euro 2028

The only thing left to receive approval is piling work which will tie in with the laying of the foundations of the hotel, work that is already being prepared by engineering specialist company Keltbray.

It is thought the whole construction process will be completed in time to have the hotel up and running by the time Euro 2028 comes around. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be one of the hosting venues for that tournament.

Spurs Web Opinion

Great news for Tottenham Hotspur, and I can’t wait to see what the finished building looks like. If I start saving now, I might be able to afford a night in one of the rooms by the time the hotel is ready for Euro 2028.

Description

Fabrizio Romano has played down talks of Sergio Reguilon returning to Manchester United this summer but insisted that the left-back does not have a future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglou decided soon after arriving at Tottenham last summer that Reguilon would not be part of his plans, with the player being shipped off on loan to Manchester United for the first half of the campaign before making a temporary switch to Brentford for the latter half.

The Spaniard delivered some solid displays last season, particularly at the Gtech Community Stadium, and on the back of that, he is thought to be attracting interest from a few clubs this summer.

Earlier this week, The Athletic claimed that the 27-year-old is considered ‘too expensive’ for Brentford on a permanent basis, but he is wanted by a number of La Liga sides.

Just a few days ago, Football Insider asserted that Man Utd could make a move to sign the left-back permanently, with Spurs allegedly willing to sell the player for a cut-price of £10m despite signing him for £25m from Real Madrid back in 2020.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Fabrizio Romano is confident of Reguilon exit

When asked about Reguilon’s future, Romano has now told Playback: “Sergio Reguilon back to Manchester United? At the moment I don’t have this one, but Sergio Reguilon has to leave Tottenham. He’s not a part of Tottenham’s plans, so Reguilon will leave this summer for sure.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Ange is not convinced that Reguilon has the attributes to play as an inverted full-back.

On the back of the Spanish international’s impressive displays last season, I would expect a few Premier League sides to vie for his signature.

Description

Calciomercato reporter Daniele Longo has insisted that AC Milan still have a lot of work to do in order to strike a deal with Tottenham for Emerson Royal.

AC Milan are keen on Tottenham’s Emerson Royal

It is an open secret that AC Milan and Tottenham are locked in negotiations over a deal for Emerson, with various Italian outlets suggesting that the two sides are nearing an agreement.

This includes an update from Corriere Dello Sport (via TuttoMercatoWeb) earlier this week, which claimed that Rossoneri were readying a bid of around €15m after seeing their opening offer of €12m turned down by Spurs.

The report added that negotiations are expected to accelerate following the second bid, with a deal potentially set to be agreed in a matter of days.

Meanwhile, Emerson himself has expressed his transfer intention, publicly admitting to Globo a few days ago that he wants regular game time and is keen on completing a switch to the San Siro.

MORE SPURS STORIES

A transfer agreement has not been reached as of yet

However, Longo believes that the transfer is far from a done deal, suggesting that other clubs could enter the picture over the coming days.

The journalist told Radio Rossonera: “At the moment Emerson Royal is away from Milan, the gap between supply and demand is high. When you go to negotiate with a club like Tottenham either you satisfy them, or you don’t take the player. Spurs don’t need to sell him.

“Furthermore, there is also an offer from Al-Nassr which will be formalised later, we will see if the player is tempted by this Arab siren.

“It seems to me that this is also the hope of some Milan fans, among the names associated with the Rossoneri, he is the one that arouses the least interest. Emerson is Moncada’s choice.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I doubt Emerson would be too keen on making a switch to Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career.

It seems like the Rossoneri are trying to use the fact that the player has his heart set on a move to San Siro to try and push through a bargain deal.

Son Heung-min and James Maddison have both said that they are proud of Micky van de Ven after the Tottenham man helped the Netherlands reach the semi-final of Euro 2024.

Micky van de Ven’s Euro 2024 campaign came to an end

Van de Ven did not start a single game at the tournament, coming on as a substitute in the latter stages in almost every game for Nathan Ake at left-back.

In the minutes that he did get, the Tottenham man hardly put a foot wrong, showcasing his versatility, composure and his defensive prowess for the Oranje.

Ronald Koeman’s side ultimately fell to England in the semi-final, with Ollie Watkins coming off the bench to score a 90th-minute winner for the Three Lions.

The Netherlands would feel hard done by due to the controversial penalty that England were awarded in the first-half but van de Ven can take solace from the fact that this is likely to be the first of many major tournaments for him.

When the centre-back took to Instagram to thank Netherlands fans for their brilliant support throughout the tournament, James Maddison and Heung-min Son were among the ones to respond.

It is fantastic to see the team spirit that exists within the Spurs squad. That is clearly no accident, with Ange Postecoglou evidently prioritising signing and keeping personalities who would help maintain and build a tight-knit feel in the dressing room.

Description

According to HITC, Tottenham are one of a number of Premier League clubs who are interested in Porto winger Francisco Conceicao, whose release clause is set to increase in just a few days.

Time is running out for clubs to secure cut-price deal

Conceicao is coming off an outstanding campaign for Porto, where he netted eight goals and provided another eight assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

The 21-year-old also shone for Portugal at the Euros, making four appearances for Roberto Martinez’s side and netting a dramatic last-minute winner in the group stage against Czechia.

HITC have now said that the young wide-man has caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs, with Tottenham, Chelsea, Fulham and West Ham also said to have expressed an interest in the player.

The report claims that as things stand, the left-footer is expected to spend another year at the Estadio do Dragao but things could change quickly, given the growing interest in his services.

Conceicao is the son of former Porto boss, Sergio Conceicao who decided to leave his managerial post recently.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Conceicao impressed for Portugal at Euro 2024

However, it is explained that Tottenham and other clubs would have to move quickly if they want to sign Conceicao on a discount.

This is because the Porto star’s release clause is set to increase from £25m to £38m on Monday.

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems unlikely that Spurs or any of these other English sides would activate Conceicao’s release clause within days and convince the player to make a move. The youngster will likely be more receptive to offers from England next summer after having another full season of first-team football under his belt.

Description

According to Football Insider, Crystal Palace are now determined to ward off interest from Tottenham Hotspur and hang on to Eberechi Eze.

Tottenham are keen on Eze

Eze is now preparing for the Euro 2024 final on Sunday along with his England teammates but back home, the attacking midfielder’s future continues to be the subject of much speculation.

Football Insider’s latest update on the player’s future comes as a blow to Tottenham, with the report claiming that Palace are determined to resist offers for their star man.

The outlet reveals that both Spurs and Manchester United are long-term admirers of Eze, but after having lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, the Eagles are expected to fight to keep hold of the 25-year-old.

Palace want Eze to stay

The report states that Oliver Glasner has made it clear to the club’s board that he wants the England international to remain at Selhurst Park and ‘optimism is high’ at Selhurst Park that the midfielder will indeed stay.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The publication adds that both the Lilywhites and the Red Devils are expected to push ahead with moves for Eze upon his return from the tournament in Germany.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham want to sign Eze, they would likely have to meet the attacking midfielder’s release clause, which by most accounts is far from straightforward.

That is perhaps why Spurs have also made some advances towards Rennes starlet Desire Doue over recent weeks, however, they also face a battle on their hands given the interest from Bayern and PSG.

Description

According to Football Transfers, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are both ready to step up their pursuit of RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo, who was mooted as a target for Spurs earlier this summer.

Olmo was the hero for Spain in their Euro 2024 semi final win against France, netting the match-winner for the La Roja, and the attacking midfielder is now preparing for the biggest game of his career as his side will take on England in the final of the competition on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the speculation over his future continues to run rife, with the player widely backed to leave Leipzig to pursue a fresh challenge this summer.

Back in May, it was reported that Tottenham and Barcelona are set to battle it out for the 26-year-old’s signature (Sport BILD via Sport Witness) but since then, it has emerged that Manchester City are also keen on the attacker (Sky Germany).

Spurs would face a battle to sign Dani Olmo

However, if Football Transfer’s latest update is to be believed, it is Man Utd and Bayern who have shown the most concrete interest in Olmo.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The report says that the Red Devils have even held talks with Leipzig over a deal for the La Masia product, with Erik Ten Hag’s men prepared to spend big on the player.

The outlet reveals that Olmo has a release clause of €60m in his contract at the Red Bull Arena but the clause is only valid until 20 July.

As a result, interest from the likes of Man Utd and Bayern is expected to ramp up following the conclusion of Euro 2024 this Sunday, where Olmo will be looking to inflict more final heartbreak on England.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have evidently abandoned their pursuit of Olmo and now appear to be focused on deals for Eberechi Eze and Destiny Doue.
