Description

Tottenham Hotspur are targeting plenty of young players this summer, and 19-year-old Desire Doue is one of them. Here’s everything we know about the French starlet.

There has been much talk about the positions Tottenham are looking to fill this summer, and despite the extension of Timo Werner‘s loan spell in London, another winger is thought to be on the list.

Spurs have been linked with Rennes winger, Desire Doue already, but may face competition from Chelsea (The Sun), as well as European giants, PSG and Bayern Munich (Abdellah Boulma).

If the Lilywhites are to sign the youngster, it’s important to know exactly what they’re getting. Let’s get to know Doue a little better.

Name: Desire Doue

Age: 19-years-old

Place of birth: Angers, France

Current club: Stade Rennais

Former club(s): N/A

International appearances: Two caps, two goals for France Under-23s (Transfermarkt)

Club appearances: 76 appearances, eight goals (Transfermarkt)

Desire Doue career stats

Desire Doue made his big breakthrough in the 2022/23 campaign, but it was last season that he really flourished and caught the eye of clubs outside of France.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In his first full season with Rennes, Doue made 34 appearances in all competitions and even played in the Europa League. He bagged four goals and one assist (Transfermarkt).

Last season was far more productive for the winger. Doue scored four goals and added six assists in 43 appearances, and had more involvement in the Europa League (Transfermarkt).

As per FBRef, Doue was in the top ten Ligue 1 players last season for passes into the penalty area (45), was ranked seventh for shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (4.87), and ranked fourth for goal-creating actions per 90 (0.66).

He also completed 64 successful take-ons throughout the season, putting him fifth in the league.

Doue was nominated for the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award last season.

Desire Doue strengths and weaknesses

If Spurs were to sign Desire Doue, they would be getting a winger who is naturally gifted when it comes to dribbling, and is particularly effective on the counter attack.

The young Frenchman has a great long-range shot in his locker, has skills and trickery that draw fouls quite often, and is also pretty hard-working when it comes to tracking back and doing defensive work.

He’s not the strongest player, though. He is often dispossessed a little too easily, and will also struggle in the air.

What have people said about Doue?

A report from Transfermarkt described Desire Doue as a “phenomenal talent” and is seen as the “latest star” on the conveyor belt of exciting youngsters coming through in France.

In an article from The Sun, it is said Spurs, Chelsea, and Manchester United are all looking at Doue, who is labelled a “wonderkid”, and is commended for how “versatile” he is.

On Twitter, Zach Lowy said Doue is “sensational to watch,” while Tom Maston described the 19-year-old as a “massive talent,” and Goncalo Dias claimed he is “one of the greatest French prospects” right now.

What do The Spurs Web think?

Desire Doue is a tricky little winger who definitely has the talent to be a success in the Premier League. Whether that is with Spurs, I’m not so sure.

His attacking returns aren’t exactly remarkable, and I just don’t know that he’s the best option we can get for that winger role.

According to HITC, Tottenham Hotspur are currently leading the race to sign Hertha Berlin starlet Boris Lum.

Bayern Munich will have to battle Spurs for midfielder

After having secured the services of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, Tottenham are now thought to be plotting a move for another talented young midfielder.

The player in question is Lum, who has turned a lot of heads in Germany with his displays for Hertha’s youth sides.

Despite being just 16 years of age, the young defensive midfielder stood out at Under-19 level last season, promoting interest from several clubs across the continent.

BILD reported earlier his week that Tottenham had already reached out to Hertha over a deal for the teenager, who is also said to be on the radar of Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Ajax.

The report revealed that the youngster’s current deal at Olympiastadion has a €5m release clause, making the deal fairly straightforward for potential suitors.

Tottenham now in pole position to land Lum

According to HITC, Spurs are now at the front of the queue to sign Lum and have already submitted an offer to the Bundesliga club for the player.

The report claims that despite facing competition from both Newcastle and Man City, Tottenham are now in the driving seat in the race for the German Under-17 international.

The publication says that Hertha have accepted that Lum will leave the club this summer and adds that the Lilywhites are now considered ‘the biggest threat to Bayern’ in the race for the youngster.

Alasdair Gold has claimed Emerson Royal has endeared himself to everyone at Tottenham Hotspur, revealing that no one at the club has a bad word about the Brazilian.

Emerson Royal’s future at Tottenham is uncertain

Emerson’s three-year stay at Tottenham looks set to come to an end this summer, with new signing, Archie Gray, potentially being on hand to serve as Pedro Porro‘s understudy at right-back next season.

The 25-year-old himself has admitted that he seeks to leave the club in search of regular game time, confirming that he has expressed his wishes to Ange Postecoglou (Globo).

AC Milan and Tottenham are reportedly locked in negotiations over a deal for the former Real Betis man at the moment, with the Rossoneri allegedly willing to offer €15m while the Lilywhites are holding out for €20m (Matteo Moretto).

Emerson’s spell at the North London club has been a mixed bag in terms of performances but Gold revealed that the defender is extremely popular among the squad.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Emerson Royal is well-liked within the club

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast about Emerson: “It’s very difficult to dislike him. I know some people want to dislike him, but he seems like such a nice guy.

“He has a lot better English than Richarlison who has been here for longer in the country. He has a really funny way about him and I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about him behind the scenes whatsoever.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is not just inside that club that Emerson is popular but he also managed to win over the fans after a difficult start to his Tottenham career.

The Brazilian has become a bit of a cult figure at the club and he will be remembered fondly by the supporters should he move on this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are currently ahead of Newcastle United in the race for Pedro Neto, according to a report by GiveMeSport.

Tottenham and Newcastle both have an interest in Pedro Neto

The report claims that even though Newcastle have now entered the race to sign Neto, Spurs continue to have the upper hand in the race for the Wolves winger.

Tottenham’s advantage is said to be down to the Portuguese’s desire to play in Europe next season and the fact that Tottenham can offer him Europa League football makes them a more lucrative option than the Magpies.

The 24-year-old is also reported to be attracted by the prospect of living in London, with the player thought to prefer a move to the capital over one to the North East.

As a result, Spurs are claimed to have a ‘slight edge’ over Eddie Howe’s side and are ‘optimistic’ that they can win the race for Neto.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs may hold the upper hand in the race

Tottenham are thought to have a ‘full understanding’ of what it would take to prise the Portugal international away from Molineux this summer.

According to the publication, Ange Postecoglou‘s side could launch an initial offer that falls below Wolves’ £60m asking price in order to test the water.

Spurs Web Opinion

A £50m deal for Pedro Neto would almost certainly rule out a move for Eberechi Eze this summer, with the Palace star’s release clause reported to be worth £60m.

Postecoglou has a big decision to make, and I suspect that the Tottenham boss would prioritise a move for the Palace star.

Description

GiveMeSport have claimed that any potential Tottenham transfer for Desire Doue will not have any impact on the North London club’s pursuit of Pedro Neto.

Tottenham are on the hunt for attack-minded players

Doue won many admirers with his impressive showing for Rennes last season, with the 19-year-old now being backed to make the step up to a bigger club this summer.

Although an attacking midfielder by trade, the Frenchman is also capable of playing on either flank, and it is perhaps that versatility that has captured the interest of the Lilywhites.

GiveMeSport have now become the latest outlet to suggest that the teenager is on the radar of Ange Postecoglou, who is keen on making some additions to his squad before the new season gets underway.

A move for Doue would not impact any interest in Pedro Neto

Interestingly, the report adds that the North London club’s pursuit of the Rennes star is not expected to have any bearing on the club’s attempts to sign a winger this summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The publication states that Tottenham could push ahead of a move for Wolves’ Neto irrespective of whether Doue arrives through the door.

Spurs Web Opinion

It would appear that Doue has been identified as an alternative to Eberechi Eze, with a deal for the Palace star now appearing to be quite complex.

However, if Spurs were to sign one of Doue or Eze, I doubt they would be in a position to shell out another £50m-£60m on Neto.

Tottenham Hotspur have not been afraid to blood some of their academy graduates into the first team since Ange Postecoglou arrived at the club.

Ange Postecoglou has not been afraid to promote youth into his side

There is plenty of excitement at Hotspur Way regarding some of the young talent coming through the ranks at the moment.

The likes of Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore have all been mightily impressive for the academy set-up and Spurs fans will be hoping to see them get some minutes in the Europa League next season.

Gold has now put forward another name, George Abbott, who could potentially follow in their footsteps and have an opportunity to be on the periphery of the Tottenham first-team squad.

Abbott was given his first taste of senior football when interim head coach Ryan Mason brought him on for his Premier League debut late in the 4–1 win at Leeds United in May 2023.

The journalist said that Abbott, who made 18 appearances for the Under-21s last season, has impressed the coaches at Hotspur Way with the way he has developed over the past twelve months.

MORE SPURS STORIES

George Abbott could have a chance of more first-team opportunities

Gold suggested that the defensive midfielder, who can also operate at centre-back or as a full-back, could have a breakthrough 2024-25 season.

He said on The Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “I have a funny feeling about George Abbott this season. I think people need to keep an eye on him. I think he could be one pushed more towards the first-team this season if he’s not on loan.

“They were very pleased with his last year of development. It was reflected in the fact he became captain of the U21s for the second half of the season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It does feel like we are on the cusp of a golden era at Spurs in terms of academy players coming into the first-team.

So many of the most talented teenagers in the country are now at Tottenham and it helps that we have a manager who is now more than happy to back young players.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has said that there is a decent chance that Tottenham Hotspur will soon look to test the waters with Wolves with a potential deal for Pedro Neto.

Ben Jacobs delivers update on Spurs interest in Pedro Neto

Neto has been heavily linked with a switch to Spurs over the course of the summer window and the speculation linking the Portuguese international with a move to N17 shows no signs of dissipating.

Just a few days ago, GiveMeSport revealed that as things stand, there is no clarity on whether the 24-year-old will still be at Molineux Stadium next season and Wolves open to suitable bids.

However, the outlet made clear that Wolves do not want to lose their star man on the cheap and will demand a minimum of £60m for him, while Spurs only value the player at around the £45m mark.

Over recent days, a number of publications have also suggested that Arsenal could challenge their North London rivals for the former Braga winger’s signature (TEAMtalk).

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham could test the waters with a bid for Pedro Neto

Jacobs has now offered an update on Neto’s future, stating that a move from Spurs to try to bring the winger to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could very much be on the cards.

He told The Wolfpack’s YouTube channel: “The plan is to keep Pedro Neto, but it would be a surprise if between now and the end of the window Spurs don’t make some approach to test the waters there.

“With PSG it’s just a discussion, they’re talking about other targets. I think there is a concrete possibility that Spurs come calling.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot see Tottenham signing both Neto and Eberechi Eze this summer, given that both players are expected to cost more than £50m.

Postecoglou might thus have to choose between the two and one gets the feeling that the Palace star is his number one summer target.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that the deal AZ Alkmaar have agreed with Tottenham for Troy Parrott is worth €8m (£6.7m).

Troy Parrott is set to join AZ Alkmaar

Parrott’s spell at Tottenham is officially set to come to an end, with the striker now thought to be on the verge of sealing a move to AZ Alkmaar.

The 22-year-old is reportedly on his way to the Netherlands to have a medical after being unable to work his way into Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

Gold reveals that Alkmaar were impressed by the youngster’s showing on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam, with the club admiring the fact that the Spurs academy graduate netted 17 goals for a side who were struggling near the bottom of the Eredivisie table.

Parrott’s time at Tottenham is coming to an end

While Parrott allegedly attracted interest from Italy as well as from the Championship, it is the Dutch side who have struck the defining blow by striking a full agreement with Tottenham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Gold explains that the Republic of Ireland international had hoped to breakthrough at Spurs but the North London club have decided to cash in on him since they have plans to bring another attacker through the door this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Getting £7m for a player who has had just one good season in the Dutch top flight is decent business by Spurs, who evidently wanted to make more space in their squad for new arrivals over the coming weeks.

The Argentine media have once again sung the praises of Cristian Romero after the Tottenham defender helped the defending champions ease into the Copa America final.

Cristian Romero has continued his impressive form

After waiting years for the Copa America title, Argentina now have the chance to win the trophy back-to-back, with the Albiceleste marching to the final after brushing aside Canada 2-0 in the semi-final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Tuesday.

Lionel Scaloni’s men will now face Colombia in the final at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami this Sunday, with Romero and his teammates having the opportunity to write their names into the history books by retaining the trophy.

The World Cup holders have got this far on the back of their solid defensive organisation, with the Tottenham man marshalling the backline impressively all tournament.

Argentina will play Colombia in Copa America final

As they have been throughout the competition, TyC Sports were once again complementary of Romero for his flawless display.

MORE SPURS STORIES

They wrote: “Without standing out so much, he was once again the one who would bring the crowd to their feet with a tackle or a save.”

Meanwhile, Bola VIP said about the 26-year-old: “A real guarantee in Argentina’s back line. He won almost all the duels and offered a clear outlet with the ball at his feet.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Cristian Romero does help Argentina get their hands on the trophy again, the clamour will grow in the South American nation’s media about the centre-back potentially joining one of the best sides in Europe.

Tottenham have to show this season that they can challenge for major trophies if they are to ensure that the centre-back’s head is not turned by future offers.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Troy Parrott is now set to have a medical with AZ Alkmaar before sealing a move to the Eredivisie club.

Troy Parrott is to undergo medical at AZ Alkmaar

Parrott enjoyed an outstanding 2023-24 season on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam, netting 17 goals for the Dutch side across the campaign.

It has been widely reported that the forward has emerged as a target for several clubs on the back of his impressive showing at Rotterdam, with a few Eredivisie sides particularly keen on securing his services (Algemeen Dagblad via FC Update).

The writing seemed on the wall for the 22-year-old when Spurs insider, Paul O’Keefe, confirmed earlier this week that the striker is not training with the Tottenham first-team squad at Hotspur Way since an offer from Alkmaar was imminent.

A return to the Netherlands awaits Parrott

It now appears as if a bid from the Eredivisie giants might have been accepted by Tottenham after Gold has taken to social media this morning to state that the Republic of Ireland is on his way to the Netherlands to undergo a medical.

MORE SPURS STORIES

This information has also been backed up by Football Insider, who add that Parrott is on the verge of sealing a permanent switch to Alkmaar.

Spurs Web Opinion

At 22 years of age, Parrott would have wanted to play regularly and he was not likely to get that at Tottenham considering the competition for places.

Postecoglou and the decision-makers at Spurs were evidently not convinced that the striker had what it took to make it in the Premier League.
