Tottenham are 'unlikely' to trigger key target's release clause - Journalist - The Spurs Web
Description

Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Crystal Palace are nervous about losing Eberechi Eze to the likes of Tottenham but the Lilywhites are not likely to pay the attacking midfielder’s release clause.

Tottenham see Eberechi Eze as a key target

A number of outlets over the last few months have indicated that Eze has been identified as one of their top summer targets by Ange Postecoglou’s side.

This includes a recent update by The Times, who claimed that Spurs are expected to push ahead with a move for the 25-year-old when he returns from the Euros, with the player said to have a release clause of £60m in his contract.

The report stated that even though other Premier League sides are after Eze, Tottenham are confident that they can secure the midfielder’s services.

A couple of days ago, HITC claimed that the England international has been left unsettled by the Eagles’ sale of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and that he is now considering his future at Selhurst Park.

Spurs are unlikely to pay Eberechi Eze’s release clause

Jacobs has now explained that Palace are concerned about losing their star man this summer but suggested that the South London club are well protected due to the high release clause.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about Eze’s future: “Nobody’s made any direct contact yet with Crystal Palace. So I think his is a deal that will require a little bit more patience. I also don’t think Eze is knocking on the door at this stage to leave.

“But when the likes of Tottenham or Arsenal, or a club of that magnitude, come calling, they can, you know, clearly offer a pay rise and European football.

“Palace are, to some extent, a little bit nervous, because they’re aware that many of their players are in demand because they had such a good finish to the season, but they’re well protected with Eze. It’s unlikely that either Arsenal or Spurs will see value in triggering the release clause.”

Spurs Web Opinion

With Palace having lost Olise and also looking likely to lose Marc Guehi, I do not think they would be inclined to come to the negotiating table for Eze.

If Spurs want to sign the attacking midfielder, they have no other choice but to activate the release clause.

Description

Football Insider have revealed that Southampton have now agreed a deal to sign Peterborough United centre-back Ronnie Edwards, who was on Tottenham’s radar.

Ronnie Edwards was linked with Tottenham

Edwards has been a cut above the rest in League One over the past few years and it seemed only a matter of time before he makes a step up to a bigger club.

The defender, who has been capped for England’s Under-20 side, was allegedly on Tottenham’s radar, with Football Insider claiming that Spurs watched him extensively last season.

In fact, the report states that the North London club seriously considered a move for the 22-year-old but they have now been beaten to the punch by Southampton.

Southampton win the race for Ronnie Edwards

According to the update, the Saints now have had an offer accepted by Peterborough for Edwards’ transfer, with the two sides having reached a full agreement over the terms of the deal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The defender is now set to sign a four-year contract at St Mary’s, with the deal expected to be announced after his medical and other formalities are done.

Tottenham currently have the likes of Ashley Phillips, Alfie Dorrington, and Luka Vuskovic on their books in North London, and all three centre-backs will be hoping to make an impact in the coming years.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have some promising young centre-backs knocking on the door of the first-team in the form of Ashley Phillips and Alfie Dorrington while they also have another top talent out on loan in Luka Vuskovic.

Signing another young centre-back might adversely affect their development and could block their pathway to the first-team.

Report: Tottenham youngster has sealed move to German side - The Spurs Web
Description

According to a report in Rheinische Post (as relayed by Gladbach Live), Tottenham academy youngster Rio Bromfield has now completed a move to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Who is Rio Bromfield?

Glabach’s interest in the teenager first came to light back in February when Gladbach Live suggested that the German club are confident of securing the youngster’s services.

The report claimed that the Tottenham youngster had informed the North London club of his intention to move to Borussia Park as he felt the pathway to the first-team would be easier there.

Rio Bromfield swaps Spurs for Gladbach

If Rheinische Post’s latest report is to be believed, Bromfield has now left Tottenham and will link up with Gladbach ahead of the new season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In fact, the outlet also quotes Gladbach youth director Mirko Sandmoller, who expressed his delight at the club’s capture of the left-back.

Sandmoller said about the 16-year-old: “He is a very positive guy with a high willingness to learn, who has a high pace, confident passing game and good switching behaviour.”

The publication added that Bromfield will initially be included in Gladbach’s Under-17 squad for the 2024-25 season.

Spurs Web Opinion

In a situation where a youth player, who is yet to sign his professional contract, wants to leave, there is little that a club can do to stop him.

That appears to be the case here, with Bromfield wanting the transfer.

'Best in the world' - Coach suggests Tottenham superstar's ceiling is still unknown - The Spurs Web
Description

Argentina’s Under-23 boss Javier Mascherano has stated that Cristian Romero is one of the best centre-backs in the world, but the Tottenham man may still not be at his peak yet.

Cristian Romero is a star for club and country

Argentina have breezed through the group stages of Copa America and they are now the favourites to retain the title that they won three years ago.

Romero was an important part of their march to the title back in 2021, with the centre-back showcasing his class in the tournament despite being relatively new to the national set-up at the time.

Three years on, the Tottenham man is now one of the leaders of the Albiceleste side and he has arguably been the nation’s best player in the tournament so far.

The 26-year-old has marshalled the backline brilliantly, with Argentina not conceding a single goal in the group stages, with the press in the South American country lavishing praise on the defender (Tyc Sports).

MORE SPURS STORIES

How good could Cristian Romero become?

Argentina and Barcelona legend, Mascherano, who knows a thing or two about what makes a good centre-back, has now joined the Romero fan club, speaking in glowing terms about the Spurs vice-captain.

The 40-year-old told TyC Sports: “Cuti Romero is among the best centre-backs in the world, if he’s not the best already. We don’t know what his ceiling is.

“He has demonstrated it throughout the entire season at Tottenham. He has been a cornerstone player for the team, incredibly important, and the Tottenham coach has repeatedly praised him in big matches.

“I believe he is at an incredible level, a player with impressive abilities who continues to grow and improve. The level he is reaching is impressive.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is only a matter of time before the biggest clubs in Europe come knocking for Romero, which is why it is vitally important for Spurs to win something next season and demonstrate to the centre-back that he can achieve his ambitions at N17.

Description

According to a report in La Repubblica (as relayed by Pianeta Genoa 1893), Tottenham Hotspur remain intent on landing Albert Gudmundsson and are one of two Premier League sides who are now pushing to sign the Genoa star.

Spurs have been heavily linked with Albert Gudmundsson

Over the last few months, there has been plenty of speculation linking Gudmundsson with a move to Spurs and the rumours do not seem to be slowing down.

The latest to report on the forward’s future is La Repubblica, who say that the player is on the wishlist of Spurs and West Ham.

As well as the two London clubs, Napoli, Inter Milan, AS Roma and Lazio are said to be in the mix to land the 27-year-old but the report says that the two Premier League sides are now ‘pushing hard’ for him.

Lazio have a bid turned down for Gundmundsson

The report reveals that Lazio had offered €20m plus Matteo Cancellieri in exchange for Gudmundsson but this offer was turned down by Genoa.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Serie A side are said to be holding out for €40m in cash, rather than a player swap deal this summer.

Meanwhile, another report in Sportitalia also states that Lazio are not expected to be successful in their pursuit of the Iceland international, especially given approaches from the Premier League for the forward.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not convinced that Tottenham have shown anything more than an exploratory interest in Gudmundsson.

If the Lilywhites were serious about landing the attacker, they would have likely brought it up while sitting down with Genoa to negotiate for Djed Spence.

Description

Genoa sporting director Marco Ottolini has now confirmed that the club have been unable to reach an agreement with Tottenham regarding Djed Spence but he left the door open for the move later in the window.

Djed Spence to Genoa looks difficult for now

Over the last two weeks, it has emerged that Spence’s proposed permanent transfer to Genoa could collapse as Tottenham want at least €7m (£6m) for the right back, which Alberto Gilardino’s side are not willing to pay (Sacha Tavolieri).

La Repubblica (via CalcioGirona) even asserted that the Serie A side are ready to turn their attention to other alternatives such as Napoli right-back Alessandro Zanoli due to Spurs’ refusal to lower their price.

BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella revealed on Wednesday that while Genoa have not given up on Spence yet, Tottenham are ready to offer the player to other clubs.

Anything can happen in Djed Spence pursuit

Ottolini has now addressed the Italian’s side pursuit of the 23-year-old, refusing to rule out a potential deal later in the window.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked about the Spence deal, the Genoa director said (via Fabrizio Romano): “Anything can happen with 55 days ahead of us.

“At the moment, there’s no agreement with Spurs and no conditions to make it happen.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Tottenham lowering their demands for Spence as the right-back is likely to be of interest to few English clubs.

For this move to be back on, it is Genoa who have to come back to the negotiating table and increase their offer.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Playback that Pedro Neto very much remains on Tottenham’s radar as the North London club look to add more firepower to their attack.

Pedro Neto was impressive last season for Wolves

Neto seemed to come off age last season, scoring three goals and providing 11 assists in just 24 outings across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Earlier in the summer, a number of outlets suggested that Tottenham were one of the sides keen on securing the Portugal international’s services.

This includes GiveMeSport who said that Spurs were battling the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd for the 24-year-old but the report claimed that the player will not agitate for a transfer this summer.

While the speculation linking Neto with a move to Spurs had subsequently gone quiet, just a few days ago, Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe revealed that the Wolves star is back on the Lilywhites’ wishlist.

Fabrizio Romano confirms that Spurs like Pedro Neto

Romano has now addressed the speculation, telling Playback that the former Braga man is indeed on Tottenham’s radar, with the journalist claiming that the attacker is greatly appreciated by the club’s decision-makers.

However, he revealed that the one concern Spurs have always had about Neto is regarding his fitness, given his inability to stay fit for lengthy durations.

Spurs Web Opinion

The only way a deal for Neto would make sense for Spurs is if it is based on a lot of appearance-based add-ons so that the North Londoners can secure themselves if the winger is constantly on the treatment table.

It remains to be seen if Wolves will entertain that kind of an offer.

Description

Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed that AC Milan are set to hold a fresh meeting with Tottenham over Emerson Royal, with the two clubs said to have made plenty of progress in the negotiations.

Spurs are in key talks with AC Milan

The report says that the operation to take Emerson to the San Siro has now entered a ‘key moment’ as the two parties are now ready for a new meeting in the next few hours.

It is explained that Milan have already done a lot of work to bring down Tottenham’s initial request, which stood at €30m. The Rossoneri are allegedly ready to do the deal at around €18m-€20m or €15m plus bonuses.

While the Premier League side have not agreed to those terms, they are said to be ‘ready to listen’ to what the Serie A side are proposing.

Decisive hours are incoming for Emerson to AC Milan

As a result, the outlet says that ‘decisive hours’ are now coming up in Milan’s pursuit of Emerson, with the negotiations not expected to drag on for too long.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The publication adds that despite receiving offers from other clubs, the 25-year-old favours a move to the Serie A side as he feels he can feature regularly in Paulo Fonseca’s starting eleven.

This could be a transfer to keep an eye on this week as talks progress.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham will ideally want to offload Emerson, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Djed Spence and Giovani Lo Celso within the next two or three weeks so that they can free up the wage bill for new arrivals.

Emerson could well be the first of that bunch to leave.

Description

According to BBC Sport reporter Nizaar Kinsella, Tottenham Hotspur are now set to offer Djed Spence to other clubs after their negotiations with Genoa for the right-back collapsed.

Spence is unlikely to join Genoa this summer

Earlier this summer, Spence was widely backed to complete a permanent switch to Genoa on the back of his loan spell at the club during the second half of last season (GiveMeSport).

However, over the last couple of weeks, it has become clear that Tottenham and Genoa have been unable to agree on the fee, with various Italian outlets suggesting that the move has collapsed.

This includes an update by La Repubblica (via CalcioGirona), who claimed that the North London club are not in the mood to give the Italian side any ‘discounts’, which is why a deal might now be off.

Spurs will offer Djed Spence to other clubs

The publication asserted that Genoa are now concentrating on other alternatives, including Napoli right-back Alessandro Zanoli, who’s believed to be available for a cheaper price.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Kinsella has now taken to social media to reveal that Alberto Gilardino’s men have not yet given up on Spence and continue to hold an interest in him.

However, he reveals that Tottenham will now offer the former Middlesbrough man to other clubs as they look to push through a swift sale.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spence will likely have plenty of takers in England, given the promise that he has shown in his loan spells at Leeds and Genoa.

I would not be surprised if one of the newly promoted Premier League sides look to take him on board.

Nico Williams makes admission about transfer interest as Spurs circle

Description

Nico Willaims has admitted that he is flattered to be linked with so many big clubs around Europe but insisted that his full focus remains on doing well for Spain at the Euros right now.

Tottenham have been linked with Nico Williams

Williams has been mooted as a target for Tottenham right from the start of the summer, with several outlets suggesting that the Lilywhites are big fans of the Athletic Club star.

The latest such update came on Wednesday when Football Insider revealed that Spurs are continuing to keep a close eye on the 21-year-old’s situation.

The report stated that Ange Postecoglou’s men could end up in a transfer battle for Aston Villa, who have also had their eye on the Spaniard for a long time.

The outlet claimed that the Atheltic Club star has a £49m release clause in his contract and that the club chiefs at Tottenham are convinced that he is a ‘star in the marking’.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Nico Williams is not thinking about transfers right now

Williams has now finally addressed the rumours around his future but he insisted that any talks over a transfer will be parked until after the Euros.

The rumoured Spurs target said (via The Mirror): “Everything that comes from outside is good, it means I’m doing my job well. Every kid dreams of being noticed by big clubs.

“I’m focused on doing well at the European Championship and whatever comes after that I’ll find out because these days I’m totally disconnected.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If there are two more signings that I would love Tottenham to pull off this summer, it is Williams and Eberechi Eze.

Both those players will significantly elevate the quality of our starting eleven and the fact that both players have a release clause in their contracts should make the deals fairly straightforward.
