Spurs are reportedly interested in bringing Kyle Waker-Peters back to Hotspur Way, five years after he departed, but they have yet to make an actual bid for the defender.

Walker-Peters ticks plenty of boxes for Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou is expected to sign a new right-back this summer following Di Marzio’s report on Tuesday (2/7/24) that Tottenham and AC Milan will meet this week in an attempt to thrash out a deal for Emerson Royal.

Although Tottenham have already announced the signing of Archie Gray, in the player’s first interview with the club he admitted he ideally sees himself as a midfielder, despite the 18-year-old being deployed at right-back for most of the season at Leeds United. (Spurs Official)

Tottenham have reportedly been looking at bringing back their former academy graduate, Kyle Walker-Peters, for some time now with HITC revealing in late May that Spurs even have a buy-back clause expected to be worth in the region of £30 million.

Walker-Peters is also of interest to Brighton and West Ham

A report from Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday stated that Brighton were the first out of a host of interested clubs to make steps towards signing Walker-Peters from newly promoted Southampton.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Brighton have reportedly enquired about the Englishman who was on the seaside club’s radar ‘for some months’.

Tottenham’s London rivals, West Ham, are also pushing for the former Spur with The Irons investigating the possibility of including Flynn Downes in a deal, who spent the last campaign on loan with The Saints.

Tottenham have apparently been monitoring Walker-Peters as he would ‘tick several boxes’, in particular the fact that he is homegrown, but there hasn’t been any bid or talks as of yet.

Spurs Web Opinion

It was a shame when Walker-Peters left the club as he was a player who was extremely exciting to watch when first breaking through as a youngster under Mauricio Pochettino, but the move to Southampton has undoubtedly developed his career with him being possibly the best right-back in the second-tier last season.

If Walker-Peters was perhaps available for a little less than the rumoured £30 million buy-back clause it would be a very sensible deal to get done with Tottenham clearly requiring more homegrown players as well as a second-choice right-back with the expected departure of Emerson Royal this summer.

The agent of rumoured Spurs target, Michael Kayode, has now revealed that no club has made a concrete offer for his client and that the right-back is expected to remain at Fiorentina next season.

Spurs have been linked with Michael Kayode

Kayode enjoyed an exceptional breakout season in 2023-24 and his performances have seemingly brought him to the attention of several Premier League sides, including Spurs.

TuttoMercatoWeb were the first to suggest that Tottenham had been alerted by the 19-year-old’s displays at the Artemio Franchi Stadium last season.

This was subsequently backed up by the print edition of Corriere Fiorentino (via Sport Witness), who revealed that the Lilywhites’ advances for the teenager have given the Viola a dilemma as while they wish to keep the youngster, they also need to raise funds to offset their loses.

Michael Kayode’s agent suggests he is going nowhere

However, his agent, Andrea Ritorni, has now insisted that the interest in the right-back has not gone beyond the initial contact stage and that the defender is focused on continuing to develop into the finished product at Florence.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked about the speculation over Kayode’s future, Ritorni told TMW (via HITC): “I think this year he has to take a further step to get to the top, obviously improving. And, with a coach like Palladino I think he has a good chance of doing it. The coach, who I’ve known since his time at Juventus, is an excellent coach.

“The market is so particular and ends on August 31st. If we consider that they ask for him in the Premier and Bundesliga, this means that Fiorentina (have done well with Kayode). They ask me: ‘You have so many requests’. But one thing is the request, which is nice and everyone likes.

“Another is to sit down and negotiate, something that has not happened so far. Then, Kayode has a contract until the age of 24. There has been something from Italy, but not much. Mostly there is talk of the Premier League. Today Kayode is a Fiorentina player, and they are holding on to him. Palladino wants him.

“Then, if an offer arrives Fiorentina will decide. As of today, there is nothing concrete. I think and hope that he will stay to mature for another year. If he has another great year here, then his value will also increase, because I am convinced that he will have an amazing season with Palladino.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Now that Tottenham have signed Archie Gray, I fully expect the 18-year-old to serve as Pedro Porro’s understudy at right-back.

Spurs will likely end their interest in the likes of Kayode, Vanderson and Lutsharel Geertruida.

Yves Bissouma and several other Tottenham players have welcomed Archie Gray to the club after the midfielder completed a switch from Leeds United.

Archie Gray signs for Spurs

Gray becomes Tottenham’s first big capture of the summer transfer window, with the 18-year-old arriving at Hotspur Way with a big reputation on the back of a breakout season at Leeds United.

Although a midfielder by trade, the teenager is rather versatile, having operated at right-back on many occasions for Daniel Farke’s men last season.

The youngster will certainly face quite a few challenges, given the step up in quality in the Premier League but he admitted in his first interview with the club’s official channel that he will give his all in training and try to push for a place in the starting eleven.

Archie Gray receives a warm welcome at Tottenham

Gray also revealed that he knows a number of the youth players at Spurs, and several of them, including the likes of Dane Scarlett, Ashley Phillips and Jamie Donley all posted ‘welcome’ messages.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Bissouma, who could well be competing with the teenager for a place in the side, also commented on Gray’s Instagram post, with the 27-year-old writing: “Welcome to the family crackito.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Gray knows some of the academy players at Spurs from their time together with England’s youth sides should make it easier for the midfielder to settle into his new surroundings.

Hopefully, some of them will get minutes alongside him next season too!

Tottenham receive Cristian Romero boost ahead of new season

Description

A decision has been made over Cristian Romero’s availability this summer which will come as a big boost to Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite previously outlining his ambitions to play, Cristian Romero has been omitted from the Argentina Olympic football squad which will compete in Paris later this month.

Mascherano still named many World Cup winners

Despite the Olympic games in Paris holding a football event that will run, should the player’s team reach the final, until the week before the start of the Premier League season, Romero had expressed his desire to represent his nation.

Tottenham vice-captain, Romero, explained back in March how he would ‘love’ to be given the chance to play for Argentina in the Olympics and possibly add the title of Olympian to his already impressive CV that is punctuated by his 2022 World Cup success (The Standard).

He said: “I never had the chance to be in the Olympic Games and I would love to.

“Obviously, it doesn’t depend on me, but if you want to take me I am available for the Argentine national team.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I continue with the same enthusiasm and desire as always to continue doing things well at the club to continue having the possibility of being here.”

The Standard did report that clubs have the opportunity to veto the player’s involvement in the tournament which perhaps explains why manager, Javier Mascherano, has opted for many players who play in Argentina.

Romero and Messi will both not travel to Paris

However, on Wednesday (3/7/24), former Barcelona player, Javier Mascherano, named his squad that will partake in the Olympics with neither Romero nor Messi featuring in the eighteen-man squad. (Olympic Website)

Squads consist of mainly under-23’s players with three spots being allocated for ‘senior’ players. Romero would have taken up one of the spots but instead, Mascherano named goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, 36-year-old, Otamendi, as well as Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez.

Romero is currently representing Argentina this summer at Copa America in the United States, will now instead return to Tottenham following the conclusion of Argentina’s run and is expected to be fit and ready for Ange Postecoglou’s second season at the helm.

Spurs Web Opinion

Although the attraction of playing for your country and the possibility of becoming a gold medal Olympian is understandable, selfishly this omission is ideal for Tottenham.

Romero is key to Spurs and losing him for the start of the league season could have meant Postecoglou had a stuttering start.

It’s also possible that had Romero been included in the squad, Tottenham would have vetoed the decision, which knowing Romero could have led to a fiery debate. It may be best for both Romero and the club that the situation has been swerved.

According to The Sun, Real Madrid have moved into pole position to land Tottenham Hotspur target Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

Marc Guehi has been linked with Tottenham

Guehi’s burgeoning reputation has grown even further in light of his impressive performances at the Euros, with the centre-back being part of a defensive unit that has conceded just two goals all tournament.

Several sources have continued to suggest over the last few months that Tottenham are big fans of the Chelsea academy graduate (Alasdair Gold –Q&A for Football.London).

The Sun have now claimed that the race for Guehi’s signature is heating up with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus all eyeing a move for the player.

Real Madrid and others enter Marc Guehi race

The report alleges that it is the reigning European champions who have now moved into pole position to secure the 23-year-old’s services.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The outlet points out that both Spurs and Arsenal also remain long-term admirers of Guehi, who is expected to leave Selhurst Park this summer since he has just two years left on his deal.

The publication adds that Oliver Glasner’s men are demanding £50m for the centre-back and are expecting offers to come their way.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are not going to be spending £50m on another centre-back this summer, given the options that Ange has at his disposal right now.

The Lilywhites will likely pursue a versatile centre-back, who can also fill in at left-back, with Riccardo Calafiori fitting the bill perfectly – although he also looks more likely to join Arsenal or Chelsea.

Description

According to Gianluca di Marzio, the negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan over Emerson Royal are now heating up, with the deal expected to be concluded in a matter of days.

AC Milan want to sign Emerson Royal

On Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano took to social media to reveal that Milan had begun fresh contacts with Spurs with a deal for Emerson.

The journalist explained that the right-back had already given the green light to the transfer but there was still a small gap in the valuation of the two sides, with Tottenham wanting around €25m for the player.

Di Marzio has now said that signing a right-back is the number one priority for Milan, with Emerson being identified as their top target.

Talks heat up between Spurs and AC Milan

He claimed that contact between Spurs and the Rossoneri has now intensified, with the Serie A side trying to get ‘as close as possible’ to Tottenham’s demands for the defender.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The journalist says that Milan are now ‘insistent’ on the signing and that the negotiations are now heating up as the two clubs try to hammer out an agreement.

Di Marzio adds that Paulo Foncesca’s men view Emerson as the ‘ideal profile’ for them and they are now hopeful that a deal can be concluded in the next three or four days.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is perhaps not a coincidence that the negotiations over Emerson’s sale are heating up after Tottenham’s successful capture of Archie Gray.

Spurs will want to swiftly move on the right-back as well as the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Djed Spence, in order to free up more space in the wage bill for new arrivals.

According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan have now made fresh contacts with Tottenham Hotspur over a deal to sign Emerson Royal.

With Spurs’ newest signing Archie Gray capable of serving as Pedro Porro’s understudy at right-back, it is clear now that Emerson’s time at the North London club is up.

Recent reports from Italy have suggested that Milan are leading the race for the Brazilian and are confident of striking a deal.

This includes an update last week from Gazzetta dello Sport, which claimed that the 25-year-old remains the top right-back target for Rossoneri, who are hopeful of signing him for a discounted fee.

New talks take place between Spurs and AC Milan

Romano has now taken to social media to state that Milan have once again held direct talks with the Premier League club regarding a deal for Emerson.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Spurs star is allegedly keen on moving to the San Siro and is thought to have given the green light for the transfer.

However, the journalist adds that there is still a gap in the valuation of the two sides, with Tottenham wanting around €25m for the player while the Serie A club want to pay a lower fee.

Spurs Web Opinion

With all three parties now wanting this move to go through, one would expect the negotiations to accelerate over the coming days.

Spurs are likely to relax their demands a little and hope that Milan meet them halfway.

Report: Tottenham beat three big names to the signing of Archie Gray

Description

The Times have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur had to see off competition from many big European sides to land Archie Gray.

Tottenham won a competitive race for Archie Gray

It has been well-documented over the last week that Gray came quite close to joining Brentford before Spurs swooped for the midfielder.

According to various reports, the 18-year-old even had a medical at the Gtech Community Stadium but Leeds were unable to agree on the structure of payment with the Bees, thus allowing the Lilywhites to swoop in and complete a £40m deal (Sky Sports).

Several clubs were keen on Archie Gray

If The Times’ latest update is to be believed, it was not just Brentford who showed interest in Gray, with a long list of clubs said to have been after the teenager.

Liverpool are alleged to be one of those, with the Reds scouting the youngster extensively last year, even considering a £40m offer for him in January.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund were also thought to be keen on Gray, having been regulars at Elland Road to watch the midfielder last season.

Finally, the publication adds that Tottenham also beat out competition from Newcastle United to land the Leeds academy graduate.

Spurs Web Opinion

This amount of interest from so many top clubs in Europe is rare for a player with just one season of Championship football under his belt.

That shows that scouts across the game have seen things in Gray’s game that make them confident that he is destined for the top.

Club insider reveals Tottenham are now eyeing moves for two exciting wingers

Description

Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe has revealed that the club have ‘firm interest’ in Rennes starlet Desire Doue while they are also considering a move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto.

Spurs are interested in Desire Doue

Spurs’ interest in Doue first came to light back in May when journalist Abdellah Boulma stated that Ange Postecoglou’s men are circling over the youngster.

Subsequently, The Daily Mail also backed up that claim, adding that the 19-year-old is also on the radars of Man Utd and Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window.

The outlet asserted that it would take a fee of over £35m to prise the versatile attacker away from Roazhon Park this summer.

Tottenham are still looking at Pedro Neto

Meanwhile, it was widely reported earlier this summer that Spurs were one of several Premier League sides circling over Neto (GiveMeSport) but the speculation linking the Portuguese star with a move to N17 has died down over the last month.

MORE SPURS STORIES

O’Keefe, who regularly breaks news on the developments at Hotspur Way, has now taken to social media to state that Doue is near the top of the club’s wishlist.

He also asserted that while Tottenham had previously cooled their interest in Neto, the Wolves star is now back on their radar.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Doue is immensely talented, his signing will be a bit of a gamble since he is not proven at the highest level.

While Neto is an outstanding player who would instantly improve our starting eleven, the issue with the 24-year-old is his poor fitness record, which makes it quite risky to spend big on him.

Journalist suggests Spurs could move for another Leeds starlet

Description

Alasdair Gold has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur could also plot a move for Archie Gray’s younger brother, Harry, at some point in the future.

Tottenham sign Archie Gray from Leeds

The arrival of Gray has certainly created a lot of buzz and excitement around Spurs, with the 18-year-old widely thought of as a potentially generational talent.

Tottenham have paid £40m to bring him from Elland Road to N17, which is steep for a player who has just had one good season in the Championship, and the outlay perhaps shows just how highly the Lilywhites rate the youngster.

He will undoubtedly face a major challenge in adapting to the pace and quality of the Premier League but the 18-year-old is evidently confident, asserting in his first interview with Tottenham’s official channel that top-flight football might suit him better than the Championship did.

Could Spurs move for Archie Gray’s little brother?

Gold has now revealed that Gray’s younger brother, Harry, is also in Leeds’ academy and is just as highly rated as the midfielder.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The journalist explained that the 15-year-old, who plays as a striker, might emerge as a target for Spurs in the future.

Gold said on his YouTube channel: “There is also his younger brother Harry Gray who is supposed to be very exciting as well. Don’t worry Leeds fans I’m not saying it’s a double deal, but he’s a 15-year-old, a striker, scores loads of goals and Archie Gray has said he’s a better player than him.

“I’m sure Spurs in the back of their minds are thinking ‘do we grab him from their academy at some point’. Because it’s so easy to take academy players these days. One to keep an eye on as well, there’s another Gray family member there who will hopefully score lots of goals in the future.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham did decide to move for Harry Gray at some point in the future, hopefully, Archie’s success in N17 (if he does end up thriving) will persuade him that it would be the right move for his career.
