Angel Gomes, who Tottenham Hotspur are keen on, has now reportedly told Lille that he plans to leave in 2025. By the sounds of it, the race for his signature could be heating up too.

Tottenham’s ideal midfield target

A number of outlets over recent months have reported that Tottenham are keen on bolstering their midfield and that they have set their sights on Lille’s Angel Gomes, who they allegedly view as the ‘ideal’ option.

The latest outlet to make that claim was GiveMeSport, who revealed a few days ago that Spurs are desperate to move ahead of the competition to land the England international.

The outlet explained that the Lilywhites are even prepared to make an offer to Lille in January rather than wait until the end of the season until the player’s contract runs out.

Angel Gomes reveals transfer wish to Lille

TBR Football now also back up Tottenham’s interest in Gomes and they reveal that the midfielder has now informed Lille of his future plans.

The 24-year-old has reportedly confirmed to the Ligue 1 club over the last few weeks that he will be leaving the club in 2025 to seek a new challenge.

However, the report says that the French side do not expect their star man to exit the club in the January window. The report adds that apart from Spurs, Gomes is also on the radars of both Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Will Tottenham test Lille’s resolve?

One would think that Lille would ideally want to sell Gomes in January rather than lose him on a free at the end of the season.

However, the decision will ultimately rest with the player, who might prefer to leave as a free agent as that would afford him more options and also help land him a higher salary.

One would expect Spurs to reach out to Gomes’ entourage to explore the possibility of a January switch to N17.

Spurs 'desperate' to beat Man United and Newcastle to England star

Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to beat several of their Premier League rivals to one of Ange Postecoglou’s top midfield targets and are thus plotting to get ahead of the queue by completing a deal in January.

Spurs have some midfield issues

Summer signings Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray have not started a single Premier League game so far this season, which indicates that Postecoglou does not think they are ready to perform consistently at the highest level.

With Rodrigo Bentancur now serving a long-term suspension, the Tottenham head coach is now short of numbers in the middle of the park.

Unsurprisingly, the Australian is said to be eager to bulk up his options in the midfield in January, and he has identified one English star as an ‘ideal’ fit for his side.

Tottenham desperate to beat PL rivals to midfielder

This report comes from GiveMeSport, who say that Angel Gomes is the player that Spurs are eyeing, with the Lilywhites desperate to beat their Premier League rivals to the player.

It is pointed out that Spurs are aware that Manchester United and Newcastle United are also both keen on landing the 24-year-old, but they are now considering getting ahead of both clubs by making a bid in January.

Gomes’ current deal at Lille runs out next summer but rather than wait to sign him as a free agent, the North London club are thought to be considering offering the Ligue 1 club a small fee in January and thus jumping to the front of the queue to land the player.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Man Utd are not expected to bid in January

GiveMeSport say that new United boss Rubem Amorim has given the green light to sign Gomes, but the Red Devils are only thought to be exploring a free transfer at the end of the season.

It is explained that this offers a chance for Tottenham to swoop for the midfielder in January as long as Lille are willing to let their star man go.

The publication adds that Gomes is ready to make a move to the Premier League, but Spurs would have to make him one of their highest earners as the Lille star is expected to demand more than £150,000 per week at his next club

Ange Postecoglou on Fraser Forster and his ability to play out from the back

Description

Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou, has been easing fears over the requirements of Fraser Forster now that Guglielmo Vicario is set for an extended period of absence.

Guglielmo Vicario is a significant loss for Spurs

The shocking injury to Guglielmo Vicario during Tottenham’s win against Manchester City has led to scrutiny regarding Tottenham’s other goalkeepers.

Vicario’s passing numbers and commitment to playing out from the back under pressure, show that he is a perfect fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system.

It is difficult to compare the Tottenham goalkeepers statistically due to Vicario’s dominance in playing the majority of available minutes. However, there is a fear that the other keepers do not possess the requisite skillset to fulfil Postecoglou’s demands.

Ange Postecoglou on Fraser Forster and his ability

In response to questions regarding Fraser Forster’s ability to be involved in the build-up, Postecoglou said (FootballLondon): “He’s a big guy Fraser. I think there is a misconception around that.

“I do want to play out from the back but don’t need my goalkeepers to be Maldini or Platini. In fact, the simpler they can keep it the better for me. I keep saying to the players, don’t pass it to the goalkeepers, they’ve got the gloves on, they’re the goalkeepers and you’re the player.

“The thing is setting it up so we give really simple solutions to our goalkeepers. It’s not about their technical ability because i you look at the way we play out from the back, and Joe’s a great example of that when he came to Celtic, it’s about them executing really simple passes that they do every day. They’re actually quite good at it, goalkeepers. All goalkeepers. It’s more about mindset.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“It’s more about them not thinking that what they’re doing is risky, because that’s what it comes down to. It’s not a skill. I’m not asking them to pin 50-yarders. In fact, it’s harder when goalkeepers go long. It’s actually a harder skill for them to do. So I’m asking them to do short passes that they’re capable of.

“It’s more, like I said, the mindset of it. Just showing them that there’s no risk here. Don’t worry about the risk. The setup is there for you to execute. And I found that with Joe and other keepers I’ve had in the past where it was, ‘oh, he can’t play out from the back’, and of course he can. He’s a goalkeeper, he can pass the ball, that’s what they do. It’s just about having a structure which allows them to do it in the cleanest possible process. And changing their mindset.

“The only barrier to that is if the goalkeeper doesn’t feel comfortable doing it. Not because they can’t. Joe was brilliant at Celtic, he embraced it all in, and Fraser’s the same.

“It’s not like Burchy is going to start working with him this week. He’s been doing it for 18 months. That’s all we do at training. They get included in some of our passing drills, some of our possession drills. They’re in there, so they’re doing it. So that’s where I sit with that.”

Fraser Forster and Ange Postecoglou build-up will be tested

After 18 months of playing under Ange Postecoglou, Fraser Forster likely has a strong understanding of the system to be able to play passes in their build-up shape.

However, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven additionally absent, there is going to be a greater incentive to press high against Tottenham to unsettle players who are less comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Postecoglou will not concede on his principles in how Spurs should play, but the squad players will have to reward Postecglou’s faith in them by showing they are capable of operating in his system effectively.

Tottenham Hotspur welcome Roma to North London this week in the Europa League as they look to add another three points on the board in Europe.

Tottenham vs Roma in the Europa League

Tottenham struggled last time out against Galatasaray in one of the most frustratingly entertaining matches of the season for the Lilywhites.

Despite going 3-1 down and looking all over the place defensively, before also getting Will Lankshear sent off, Spurs very nearly came from behind to earn a shock draw in Turkey.

Ange Postecoglou will want to avoid back-to-back European defeats at all costs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening, as an out-of-form Roma come to town.

Roma have just one win and four defeats in their last five Serie A matches, and languish down in 12th in the table. In Europe, while Spurs are going strong up in seventh in the table, Roma are all the way down in 20th with just one win to their name.

Tottenham vs Roma score prediction

Pascal Chimbonda thinks Tottenham will earn another three points to add to the Europa League table, albeit via a narrow victory. We, on the other hand, feel a more comprehensive victory coming for Spurs.

Pascal prediction – 2-1 Tottenham win

Tottenham player is receiving interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia

One Tottenham star whose future lies away from the club is the subject of interest from several different clubs, including some from Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

Tottenham likely need to sell to buy

With the January transfer window a little over one month away, the future of several Spurs players whose contracts expire in the summer, will be under scrutiny.

Players with 6 months remaining on their contracts, including the likes of Ben Davies and Fraser Forster, are entitled to secure end-of-contract agreements with new clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur currently have multiple players unable to be registered in their Europa League squad due to registration rules. So, if they hope to make an incomings in January, they will have to free up funds and squad spaces with outgoings.

Tottenham defender monitored by several clubs

One player certainly set to depart Tottenham is Sergio Reguilon. Only named in one matchday squad this season and generally used in training sessions, his time as a Tottenham player is nearly at an end.

Despite his lack of minutes, (FootballLondon) clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia have been monitoring Reguilon and are keen on his signature.

Previous reports have suggested that Reguilon is prioritising a return to European football next season, which makes the Saudi League a less likely destination.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, his desire to get back to playing competitive matches, in addition to there being no resistance from Tottenham regarding his departure, means he should be able to find an ideal move that suits all parties.

Sergio Reguilon was a casualty of inconsistent club ideology

Sergio Reguilon is another player on a growing list of individuals who came to Tottenham lauded as needle-moving signatures, only to leave in a shroud of unfulfilled potential.

Reguilon was one of La Liga’s best-performing fullbacks when he joined Tottenham and has the ability of a player who should be playing at least in European competitions.

It is a great shame that he joined the club during the post-Pochettino period when the club were searching for a new identity. Like several others, he became lost amongst the churning maelstrom of football ideology passing through Spurs and once it settled, did not possess what Ange Postcoglou was looking for in a fullback.

At 27, he still has many playing years ahead of him and fans can only hope he finds a move during January that brings him happiness and success.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to extend the contract of Ben Davies, whose current deal is set to run out at the end of the season.

Experienced Spurs man continues to be Mr Reliable

Ben Davies might not have received the appreciation he deserves from some Spurs fans over the course of his Tottenham career, but that is now seemingly starting to change, with a lot of supporters now recognising his value.

He was a key player for the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, and while he is no longer a regular starter under Ange Postecoglou, he has continued to be a very useful backup.

The Welshman has impressed every time he has played as a centre-half in the current system, with his latest display at the Etihad Stadium encapsulating the reliability and calmness he offers.

Tottenham intend to extend Davies’ contract

Although Davies’ current deal runs out next summer, The Athletic have now revealed that Spurs have an option to extend his contract by one more season.

The report says that the Lilywhites intend to take up that option, thus tying the 31-year-old down until the summer of 2026.

Ange Postecoglou is thought to be planning on keeping the veteran defender at the club next season, which will be the former Swansea man’s 12th season at Spurs.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Decision to extend Ben Davies contract is a no-brainer

Every top squad needs players like Davies, who are versatile, extremely reliable and who lead by example with the way they train and behave off the pitch.

The defender is a team man, who will never sulk when being left out and will always give his all whenever he is needed.

It is thus a no-brainer for Postecoglou and Tottenham to keep Davies around for one more season as he has not shown any signs of decline.

Japhet Tanganga admits decision to leave Spurs in the summer was 'tough'

Description

Japhet Tanganga, who left Spurs back in the summer, has opened up on the tough decision he had to make, and the things he learned from his spell at the North London side.

Japhet Tanganga could not live up to early promise

When Japhet Tanganga first broke into the Tottenham starting eleven back in 2020 under Jose Mourinho, he looked like a star in the making.

The Spurs academy graduate played as a left-back on his debut and managed to keep Mohamed Salah quiet, showing all the attributes that one needs to succeed as a defender in the Premier League.

However, a series of injuries and managerial changes at Spurs meant that he never managed to get a consistent run in the side, with the defender eventually joining Millwall on loan before the start of the season after a successful loan spell at the club last campaign.

Japhet Tanganga opens up on decision to leave Spurs

The 25-year-old admits that he was emotional when the time came to say goodbye to the club where he had grown up. However, he acknowledged that the time was right for him to depart Hotspur Way in order to further his own career.

Tanganga told Sportsboom: “It was always going to be tough leaving Tottenham. It was my first club, I grew up there really. I was there from when I was nine until 25.

“It was always in my mind that I needed to go and further myself and my career. I needed to play football and that’s what I’ve got at Millwall.”

Tanganga thriving in the Championship

Tanganga’s decision to move to the Den has been vindicated, with the defender going from strength to strength at the South London club.

Millwall now looks set to compete for a playoff spot, mainly owing to their solid defence, with the former Tottenham man emerging as a leader at the back.

When asked about his success at the Championship outfit, the Spurs academy graduate said: “The experience I got from my time at Tottenham is great. It’s something I can use to my advantage, the information I’ve gathered from my time in the Premier League.

“The Championship is its own level itself and something you can’t underestimate. I’ve had to learn as well. As much as I’ve played in the Premier League, I’ve had to learn what the Championship is like. The boys who have been in this league for many years have really helped me with that.”

Japhet Tanganga reveals why Ange Postecoglou is the perfect man for Spurs

One former Tottenham defender, who departed the club permanently before the start of the season, has explained what Ange Postecoglou was like to work with and why the Australian is the right fit for Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou continues to silence critics

It feels like every single time that Postecoglou‘s critics begin to grow louder, the Tottenham head coach delivers a result that silences them.

That is exactly what happened on Saturday as the knives were sharpened ahead of Spurs’ trip to the Etihad, only for the Lilywhites to deliver a commanding display and thrash the Premier League champions 4-0.

It was the kind of result that once again showed the potential upsides of the current project, with Spurs reminding everyone how irresistible they can be when they are at their best.

Japhet Tanganga backs Postecoglou to succeed at Spurs

Japhet Tanganga might have only worked with Postecoglou for a brief period before he was shipped out on loan last year, but the defender saw enough signs of encouragement in pre-season under the Spurs head coach.

The Spurs academy graduate, who made the permanent switch to Millwall in the recent transfer window, admits that he was impressed with the 59-year-old’s ideas.

When asked about Postecoglou, Tanganga told SportsBoom.com: “I think he’s a very good coach, a very good manager. I feel like he’s the right man for the job at the moment.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I did pre-season with Ange and that’s when I left to go out on loan with Millwall last season. He was very good. In my opinion, I was very impressed with what I saw during my time with him and the way he wanted his team to play.

“In training, he wasn’t the most vocal. He was observant and liked to watch, but when it came to matchday you could really hear and feel his presence. That’s what stuck out for me from the friendly games I participated in.”

The Spurs players have fully bought into Ange’s methods

The one thing that has been evident since the time Ange walked through the door is that the players have fully bought into the Australian’s ideas.

Even when results have not gone our way, the players have continued showing belief in the team’s style of play, and one can tell from the way they speak about the current Spurs boss that they are enjoying playing under him.

That is why rumours of a fallout between Ange and some of the senior players always seemed like a stretch, with the body language of the Spurs stars telling a different story.

Dejan Kulusevski admits inconsistent Tottenham 'lack a bit of discipline'

Dejan Kulusevski gives his opinion on what is missing at Tottenham Hotspur and what the team has to do to become consistent.

Tottenham continue to blow hot and cold

Much to the frustration of a lot of Spurs fans, the Lilywhites continue to struggle for consistency, being capable of producing outstanding displays as well as completely abject ones.

At times this season, Ange Postecoglou‘s men have played really good teams off the park and looked like one of the best sides in the Premier League.

However, in other matches, like the loss away at Crystal Palace and the second half against Brighton, they have simply not turned up, looking completely devoid of ideas.

Dejan Kulusevski on what has to change at Tottenham

Kulusevski believes that Spurs have the quality in their squad to be challenging near the top end of the Premier League.

However, he insisted that the team lacks the mentality and discipline to maintain their standards every single day like Champion sides do.

When asked what Tottenham are lacking, Kulusevski told Sky Sports: “I think there are a couple of factors and one is here inside the training ground. To be a champion, you have to be a champion every day. You have to give everything every day.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I feel we lack a little bit of discipline in terms of that consistency. That’s what is missing. The quality is there, the football is there. But you have to do it every day. You can’t be happy because you win a game, two games, three games. You have to win every game.

“I think these are the steps that we have to take. We have the football, but we have to get more disciplined. Maybe someone else has a different opinion, but that is mine.”

Kulusevski fully behind Ange Postecoglou

Some critics put Tottenham’s inconsistency down to Postecoglou’s methods and have called for the Australian to tweak his system to make the side tighter defensively.

However, Kulusevski is convinced that Spurs’ style of play is perfect, admitting that he is enjoying working with the 59-year-old.

When asked about Postecoglou, the attacking midfielder said: “It’s been very nice to get to know him. I think he’s a very good man and a very good coach. I have learned a lot from him and I agree with his playing style.

“That’s the way I want to play, very aggressive and always the same. But of course, we have to improve. What we are doing is not enough. We can see progress in our football but we want to win something this year and we have to see results too.

“It’s a challenge for us together – the manager, the players, everyone at the club – to find a way that works. A lot of things we do are perfect. Offensively, we are very good. But we have to defend a little bit better, especially conceding some easy goals from crosses.

“We have to improve a lot on that, but I think we can fix that side of our game and I am enjoying working with the manager. It’s an honour for me to work with him.”
