Igor Tudor sack latest: Tottenham ‘have no choice’ amid ‘poisonous’ claim – expert

Tottenham Hotspur should sack manager Igor Tudor if the fanbase has already turned against the interim boss.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes it is “crucial” that the supporters back the team for the remainder of the season.

Tudor has lost all four of his opening games in charge of the north London club, with some fans walking out before half-time during the defeat against Crystal Palace.

Spurs could be looking for a third manager of the season after sacking Thomas Frank in February after just eight months in charge.

Tottenham must ‘consider’ Igor Tudor sack

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes sacking Tudor could be a “catalyst” for Spurs to climb away from the Premier League relegation zone.

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Spurs is a “poisonous” place to be right now.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, given that I thought they should have stuck with Thomas Frank and avoided even more instability, I would say that probably now they’ve picked Tudor, they have to try their best and stick with it.

“But the way that I’m seeing the club right now in free fall, people are feeling the pressure. And when you feel that pressure, I know it’s often tempting to do knee-jerk reactions and be seen to be trying to do everything you possibly can.

“The new manager bounce, again, if it hasn’t happened with Tudor, could it happen again with somebody coming back with a tie to the club in some way and rally everybody? I think it would take the fans to come together. It may help them if they get behind somebody new.

“As I say, to me that’s crucial having the fans backing the team, and maybe a change from Tudor could actually be the catalyst to do that. So that’s one thing that you have to consider, because it’s poisonous just now and that big new stadium is really not a happy place to be. But potentially a new manager change could do that.”

Tudor has three games to keep Spurs job

Sources told Football Insider that Tudor could be sacked by Spurs during the March international break if results do not improve.

The international window is seen as an ideal moment for the club to change managers, if they need to, although they would still ideally want to appoint their next permanent manager in the summer.

Spurs have three games before the next international break, including two Premier League fixtures against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham turn attention to new Andy Robertson swoop, Liverpool make definitive contract decision

Tottenham Hotspur are still keen to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson despite their failed attempt in January, sources have told Football Insider.

The Scotland international turned down the chance to swap Anfield for North London during the winter window, but Spurs are hopeful of being able to tempt him this summer if they remain in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old is out of contract on Merseyside in the summer, and sources say that the Reds have decided to let the veteran control his own destiny in terms of his future.

Robertson could yet remain part of Liverpool’s plans for next season if he is content with the idea of being a squad player again next term, but Tottenham are also prepared to give him the chance to join them once again.

Liverpool ready to take Andy Robertson U-turn

Robertson returned to the Liverpool starting XI for their FA Cup victory over Wolves last time out, and scored the opener in a commanding 3-1 victory for his team.

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

His performance caught the eye of the Reds’ fans, and it appears to have given Arne Slot serious food for thought in terms of the plans for his future.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on Monday that Liverpool are still prepared to put the offer of a new contract on the table for the defender.

Brown suggested that Robertson’s performance against Wolves has reminded Slot and the club hierarchy that he is too valuable for them to lose at the moment, especially considering the struggles of Milos Kerkez this season.

That would then leave the ball in his court in terms of where he sees his future, and whether he is ready to leave Anfield in favour of a new challenge after nine seasons with the club.

Reds eye move for new right-back

Football Insider revealed last week that Liverpool are likely to be forced into adding a new right-back to their group ahead of next season, amid ongoing issues in the full-back positions.

The Reds have found themselves lacking depth on the right of their backline this season, with both Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones regularly being called upon to provide makeshift cover in the role.

Conor Bradley’s return date remains uncertain as he continues his recovery following a nasty knee injury, and with Jeremie Frimpong’s fitness also up and down throughout his debut season, the hierarchy are clear that they cannot go into the 2026-27 campaign relying on the Dutchman alone.

With that in mind, a new option is set to be sourced once the summer transfer window opens, and it is possible that a new arrival could swiftly follow at left-back if Robertson opts to move elsewhere.

‘It’s now coming out’ – Game-changing Tottenham details from behind the scenes

Tottenham Hotspur could have saved millions after it was revealed the club do have salary reduction clauses in their contracts.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after it was initially reported that the club did not have such clauses in place.

The wages of Spurs’ players will drop by around 50% if they are relegated from the Premier League this season, with Igor Tudors’ side currently just a point above the drop zone.

Wage decreases will mitigate the financial blow for Spurs if they suffer relegation amid a major decrease in revenue if the club drop down to the Championship.

Tottenham stars ‘won’t accept’ wage cut

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes a lot of Spurs’ players would leave if they have their salaries cut.

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the move is “absolutely crucial” for the club.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think a few weeks ago, the rumour was that they didn’t have those clauses in place, and it’s now coming out they do have.

“Now, it’s absolutely crucial. Having managed Villa when they went down right away from the Premier League, it was crucial that those wage deals were in place.

“You’ve got to get players down, and you also know that a lot of those players won’t accept being down to that 50% level, so they’ll want to move.”

Tottenham chief faces sack

Sources have told Football Insider that Spurs could sack sporting director Johan Lange following the club’s poor campaign.

Spurs chiefs are facing scrutiny over whether they should keep their roles in the future, regardless of whether the club remains in the Premier League.

Lange was a key part of Spurs appointing both Thomas Frank and Tudor, with the latter already under threat of the sack after only three games in charge.

Sources: Igor Tudor sack ‘inevitable’, this is when he could depart Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Igor Tudor is likely to have until the international break at the end of March to save his job, sources have told Football Insider.

Alarm bells are already ringing over his appointment from within the Lilywhites’ hierarchy, and the two-week international break is seen as the ideal time to bring in his successor, if needed.

That timescale is seen as a clear opportunity by the board to give a new man some time with his squad, and sources say that if results do not improve by then, a change in the dugout will be “inevitable.”

Tottenham’s next permanent appointment is set to come in the summer, but they could yet be forced into further action if Tudor cannot turn the ship around within the next few weeks.

Which games does Igor Tudor have to save his job?

Tudor has tasted defeat in each of his three assignments so far, beginning with a disparaging 4-1 reverse on home turf in the North London Derby.

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

His team have since fallen in comparatively favourable fixtures against both Fulham and Crystal Palace, and things are about to get significantly harder for his charges in the coming weeks.

With four games between now and the international break, the Croatian will know that results have to drastically improve across those encounters.

Their two-legged Champions League last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid is sandwiched either side of a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.

Their final fixture before the break is a home clash with Nottingham Forest, who they currently find themselves above by just one point in the fight against relegation.

Who is in line to take over Tudor at Tottenham?

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Ryan Mason is in the frame to return to Tottenham in the coming weeks and take on the interim role until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old is being viewed as a “good fit” for the role by the club hierarchy, given that he has held it twice before during his coaching career, and knows the club inside out.

Mason has been out of work since he was sacked by West Brom in his first permanent managerial role at senior level back in January, but he could now be set to make a return to his old club to try and save them from the drop.

The likes of Harry Redknapp, Tim Sherwood and Glenn Hoddle have also been linked with the position, but Mason is a more likely option at the moment.

‘Ridiculous’ – Tottenham fans stunned by Clinton Morrison’s ’embarrassing’ Thomas Frank claim

Clinton Morrison is unlikely to be welcomed to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with open arms after his latest comments on Thomas Frank.

Igor Tudor has been appointed to save Tottenham from Premier League relegation, with the team currently just one point above the relegation zone with nine games remaining.

Frank lasted just eight months as Spurs boss, taking over from Ange Postecoglou during the summer, only to win 27 per cent of his Premier League games in charge in North London.

Tottenham’s manager search will already be active, with Tudor only in charge until the end of the 2025-26 season, but Morrison believes that the Lilywhites might be regretting their change in the dugout.

Tottenham wrong to sack Thomas Frank, claims Clinton Morrison

After suggesting that the Lilywhites were wrong for sacking Frank and that his demise was due to the pressure from fans, many have flooded onto social media to make their feelings clear.

Calling the Sky Sports reporter “ridiculous,” “embarrassing,” and having “no idea about football,” it is safe to say that the majority of supporters believe he could not be further from the truth.

The comments have not gone down well at all, with the clip going viral on social media. Although Frank’s arrival was initially met with a lot of positivity, fans are unlikely to welcome him back with open arms either.

Who could replace Igor Tudor at Tottenham?

Tudor is under growing pressure, having lost all three of his games in charge so far, and Mick Brown has now revealed to Football Insider that Glenn Hoddle, Tim Sherwood and Harry Redknapp are contenders.

Upcoming games against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland are all season-defining clashes, but future matches against Wolves and Leeds United are by far the most key.

The current manager is already running out of time to prove himself, with some fans already keen to make another switch in the dugout for the remaining games of the season.

First, Spurs must take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, but success in Europe will not be the priority when Premier League survival is on the line.

Dominic Solanke to Newcastle: This is how his key metrics compare to Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade

Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke “ticks a lot of boxes” for Newcastle United in their search for a new striker, sources have told Football Insider.

There is a feeling at St James’ Park that it would take a “big fee” to prise the 28-year-old away from North London, but it is also understood that Spurs are “vulnerable” to offers for him in the summer.

The England hopeful shares a strong relationship with Magpies boss Eddie Howe after previously playing under him at Bournemouth, and sources say that the Lilywhites would be unable to keep hold of him if they suffered relegation.

Newcastle’s transfer plans for the summer are beginning to take shape, and their pursuit of Solanke could see them spend big on a frontman once again.

How does Dominic Solanke compare to Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade?

Newcastle secured the big-money attacking additions of Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade to make up for the loss of Alexander Isak last summer, but things haven’t gone to plan for either of that duo so far.

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

They have both struggled for form of late, and their issues have even prompted Howe to start Anthony Gordon through the middle on several occasions in recent games.

Woltemade hasn’t scored in the league since 20 December, while Wissa has just one Premier League goal from 12 games since he recovered from his injury-hit start to the campaign.

On the other hand, Solanke has been in strong form for Spurs after returning from his injury, as he already has five goals from just 14 appearances in all competitions.

Solanke is currently outperforming the Newcastle duo when it comes to his finishing metrics in league action so far this season, while also winning more duels per 90.

He has immediately returned to be a key figure for Spurs once again, but their perilous position is leaving them susceptible to losing their key players this summer.

Newcastle reveal long-term Nick Woltemade plan

Football Insider revealed at the end of February that Howe is hoping that Woltemade’s new role in an attacking midfield position can re-vitalise his time on Tyneside.

There has been plenty of talk about the German potentially being sold by the Magpies this summer, but the club currently have no intention of doing that, and are instead keen to pursue the idea of him playing deeper.

Newcastle are understood to have been impressed by the former Stuttgart man’s performances in his new role in recent weeks, and it has allowed them to get more pace at the top of their attack through Gordon.

The tactical switch surrounding Woltemade appears to have been enough to secure his future at St James’ for now, but if his struggles continue in front of goal, then it could seriously affect his long-term prospects.

Aston Villa could sign James Maddison in ‘bargain’ deal – ‘the opportunity is there’

Aston Villa are plotting a move to sign Tottenham midfielder James Maddison ahead of what could be a dramatic summer transfer window.

Unai Emery’s side are believed to be keeping tabs on the 29-year-old’s recovery from a serious injury which will see him miss the entire season.

Concerns about the potential impact of that injury could see them ease off, but should Spurs suffer relegation, they could be tempted into a bargain deal.

Former Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Emery’s side are not the only admirers of Maddison, who could become available for a cut-price fee.

Tottenham are currently just one point above the regelation zone and showing no signs of improvement, placing clubs on alert as Villa accelerate their transfer plans.

Aston Villa plot move to sign James Maddison

Emery is keen to add to his attacking midfield options this summer, as Football Insider revealed Aston Villa are interested in Mason Mount, with multiple options on their radar.

Maddison is the latest to be linked with a move to the West Midlands, and while his injury could make the deal a non-starter, they are keeping tabs on his recovery.

“Maddison is going to be an interesting one,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Everybody knows he’s a quality player, so there’s going to be interest in him, and he will be on the radar of teams like Aston Villa for example.

“They’ll be keeping an eye on his recovery from this injury, because it’s obviously going to be a concern when any player misses a full season of football.

“But if the reports on his recovery are positive and he returns for Tottenham in pre-season, there could be an opportunity to bring in him on a bargain deal.

“If Tottenham are relegated, they’re going to struggle to keep hold of players and they’ll have to sell, so the opportunity will be there for clubs like Villa.

“Nobody is going to pay through the roof for a player who has been sidelined for a year, but if he can be signed for a cheap fee, it’s an opportunity clubs could look at.

“A player like James Maddison at his best would improve a lot of teams in the Premier League, so I think he will be one to watch depending on his recovery.”

Unai Emery could leave Aston Villa after transfer blow

Despite Villa keeping tabs on a number of potentially available players ahead of the summer transfer window, there are concerns their spending may be limited.

Financial restrictions at Villa Park have prevented the club from capitalising on the success they have enjoyed under Emery and preventing them from making progress.

As a result, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Emery is increasingly likely to leave Aston Villa this summer, and the closing stages of the season will be key.

Villa are in need of another overhaul this summer with numerous positions on their radar, but if they are unable to spend freely, the boss will be left frustrated.

Qualifying for the Champions League would hand them a much-needed boost despite concerns growing and the coming weeks could be crucial.

Sources: Brentford ready to accept Kevin Schade offer after Tottenham news

Brentford are prepared to sell Tottenham Hotspur target Kevin Schade for the right price this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The winger is attracting interest from the likes of Spurs, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan at the moment, while the Bees have already placed a price tag of £60million on him.

Keith Andrews’ side are ready to accept offers for the 24-year-old if they meet their lofty valuation, and sources say that is likely to make it “difficult” for Spurs to strike a deal due to their ongoing fight against relegation.

Tottenham’s transfer plans have seen them identify Schade as a player who could come in and have a big impact for them next term, but they are not well-placed to secure his signature at the moment.

Brentford have already come to terms with losing Kevin Schade

Brentford’s rise into the top half of the Premier League in recent years has been built around their model of buying players on the cheap and selling them on for significant profit.

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

They have already come to terms with the fact that this could be the summer when they lose Schade, and they are still happy to remain tight to their model and not try to fight against the interest too much.

Andrews and Co. are willing to sanction a sale provided that it is done so on their terms, given that the German still has two years left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium in the summer.

Tottenham have been linked with him on several occasions in recent months, but their perilous position is doing them no favours when it comes to the race for his signature.

The Lilywhites are almost certain to miss out on European football for next term, and that will have a significant impact on both their pulling power and their spending capabilities.

Instead, a move abroad looks more likely for Schade at the moment, with both Bayern and Inter better placed to do a deal.

Schade situation to become familiar for Tottenham amid £200m revenue hit

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson recently told Football Insider that Tottenham stand to lose up to £200m if they are relegated from the Premier League.

Several of the Lilywhites’ major sponsors are already contemplating stepping away from the club, and a massive hole could be left in their revenue as a result.

That would, in turn, have a major impact on their transfer plans, as the situation with Schade would potentially be replicated across several of their biggest targets, as they would lack the financial capability to compete for top talent.

Brentford’s stance looks set to provide clubs with a big chance to prise the star away from them this summer, but it is quickly becoming clear that it is unlikely to be Spurs who benefit from that.

‘Disaster’ – Tottenham tipped to sack Johan Lange in new backroom overhaul

Johan Lange’s position as sporting director at Tottenham could be under threat as they eye a potential overhaul of their backroom staff after a disastrous season.

Regardless of whether they remain in the Premier League, many of the club’s chief decision-makers are facing scrutiny over their positions and contributions.

This comes as Spurs have begun searching for a second sporting director to become part of a restructure which would see a new appointment work alongside Lange.

However, former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that pressure on the 46-year-old is ramping up as a result of multiple ineffective decisions.

Lange was heavily involved in decisions to hire both Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor, both of which have led to their situation and Spurs now looking for a new manager.

Questions asked of Johan Lange at Tottenham

Football Insider warned that Lange could struggle in his role at Tottenham alongside Fabio Paratici, with scrutiny on both men after a number of questionable calls.

Lange was previously heavily criticised for his work at Wolves and Aston Villa, and doubts are lingering about his influence at Spurs, with questions now being asked.

“It’s difficult to understand why certain decisions are made at Spurs,” Brown told Football Insider.

“You’ve got the sporting director making decisions, mostly bad decisions in all honesty, and that’s a big part of the reason why they are where they are. It’s a shambles.

“I don’t think particularly highly of Lange, but don’t just take my word for it, the evidence is there.

“Wherever he’s been, it’s been a disaster. He was a disaster at Wolves, he was a disaster at Villa where I was at the time as well, and now he’s been a disaster at Tottenham.

“Brining in different manager and players, none of whom have any positive impact, now they’re in a relegation battle and fingers are being pointed.

“They have to start asking questions of the decision-makers, of which he is one, and if they’re trying to revamp their backroom team they might as well do it properly.

“They need to look at the people in these positions and they could make some big changes, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if that’s the route they take.”

Igor Tudor faces sack pressure at Tottenham

One of Lange’s most recent decisions as sporting director was to bring in Igor Tudor on an interim basis to guide the club away from the relegation zone.

Since his arrival, the boss has lost all three of his games in charge, most recently against Crystal Palace, and the club are now just one point above the drop zone.

As a result, Football Insider revealed on 6 March that Tottenham could be forced to sack Tudor in a late scramble to stay in the Premier League.

Should he prove unable to turn around their recent form in the coming weeks, they will be left with no choice but to search for a replacement.

Results on the pitch as well as some damning press conference quotes from the boss have seen patience grow thin, and he could soon be moved on.

Sources: Ryan Mason in the frame for Tottenham return amid Igor Tudor sack latest

Ryan Mason is seen as a candidate who would be a “good fit” to replace Igor Tudor at Tottenham Hotspur, sources have told Football Insider.

The interim boss is under pressure at the North London outfit at the moment, and it is understood that he faces a crucial couple of weeks to ensure that he is protected from the sack.

The Lilywhites would turn towards another short-term appointment if they were to pull the trigger on the Croatian, and sources have indicated that Mason is a likely candidate to take the reins, due to his previous experience in the role.

Tottenham’s latest managerial plans will see them make a new long-term appointment in the summer, but there is a feeling that they may still need somebody else to come in and steady the ship before then.

Who else has been linked with the Spurs interim job?

Mason left Tottenham last summer having built up an impressive reputation as a coach during his time working in their academy setup.

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

However, things quickly went downhill in his first permanent managerial role at senior level, as he was sacked by West Brom in early January after a 10th consecutive defeat away from home.

His spell at the Championship outfit had begun in promising fashion before turning sour, and he could soon be set to return to familiar surroundings at Spurs.

He has held the interim position on two previous occasions in 2021 and 2023, and is now among a group of familiar names who are currently being linked as potential options.

Veteran bosses Harry Redknapp and Tim Sherwood have been linked with the role until the end of the season, while even Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle has put himself forward as a candidate.

However, at the moment it is Mason who appears to be seen as the most realistic option.

Tottenham board to be ‘forced’ into Igor Tudor sack

Football Insider recently revealed that Tottenham will be “forced” into sacking Tudor if the club fall into the relegation zone in the coming weeks.

The North Londoners have now lost five consecutive Premier League games, and their most recent defeat to Crystal Palace has left them in their most perilous position yet.

Tudor’s men are now just one point above the bottom three heading into next weekend’s visit to Liverpool, and they face the daunting prospect of potentially being leapfrogged by both Nottingham Forest and West Ham if results do not go in their favour.

That looks set to be the final tipping point for the board, given that it would really set the alarm bells ringing for them in terms of the relegation picture.
