Tottenham Hotspur are determined to sign Santos left-back Souza after agreeing personal terms, Fabrizio Romano has exclusively revealed on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast.

Thomas Frank’s side are believed to be nearing their first signing of the January transfer window, with club-to-club talks ongoing with Santos to finalise a move for the 19-year-old.

Spurs are anticipated to make a new bid for the talented left-back soon, but are unwilling to overspend on the defender, who is rated at around €35m (£30m) by the Brazilian club.

A new left-back is believed to be a priority for Frank this month, with Destiny Udogie sidelined by injury.

Tottenham Progressing on Souza Deal

Romano, speaking on the Market Madness podcast, revealed that Souza is keen on a move to north London, with talks now ongoing with Santos over a deal for the 19-year-old.

“It's a possibility. There are talks ongoing with the agents of the player. I'm told that the player is keen on the move. There was also interest from Italian clubs and Spanish clubs calling these agents.

“But now Totenham are on it. Tottenham are negotiating with the player, and also club-to-club with Santos. So that's a possibility.

“There is a conversation ongoing. Let's see about the price. Because Tottenham don't want to overpay. They want to make sure the deal makes sense for them from a financial point of view.

“It already makes sense from the technical point of view. Souza is a talented left back.

“So they are following and tracking the situation, talking to the agents. Let's see, club-to-club, what's going to happen, but on the player's side it is going quite well.”

Souza, who turns 20 in June, came through Santos’ youth ranks and made his top-flight debut in May last year.

The wide defender amassed 24 Brazilian Serie A appearances last season and, alongside team-mate Neymar, helped Santos avoid relegation to the second division.

Souza has been capped 12 times by Brazil’s U17 side, including five appearances at the U17 World Cup in November 2023, helping the team reach the quarter-finals.

Thomas Frank Needs a New Left-Back

While Spurs view Souza as a prospect for the future, they need help at left-back this season, with Udogie unavailable for much of the campaign.

The Italian defender has made only six starts for Tottenham this term, with Djed Spence deputising in his absence, while veteran Ben Davies started in the position for their 1-1 draw at Sunderland last weekend.

Davies, who scored his first goal for Spurs in over two years last weekend, is out of contract at the end of the season and made only his second appearance of the campaign against Sunderland.

Tottenham Exploring Forward Options

Romano also noted on Market Madness that Tottenham may look to sign a new forward this month if the ‘right opportunity’ arises.

Spurs were missing injured Mohammed Kudus, Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski in their 3-2 loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday, and also saw Lucas Bergvall taken off with a fresh setback.

It's FA Cup weekend and for many teams that means reduced ticket prices, allowing more supporters the opportunity go and see their favourite players.

That is no different for Tottenham Hotspur, who have offered tickets at £30 for adults and £10 for juniors and young adults for their clash with Aston Villa at the Totenham Hotspur Stadium.

Club captain Cristian Romero came out and appeared to criticise the club's hierarchy in the wake of the defeat to Bournemouth.

In a later altered Instagram post, the Argentinian said: "At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don't - as has been happening for several years now. They only show up when things are going well, to tell a few lies."

Romero later removed the "to tell a few lies" part of the post, but the damage had already been done.

He also apologised to supporters by saying: "Apologies to all fans of you who follow us everywhere, who are always there and will continue to be. We are responsible, there’s no doubt about that. I am the first. But we will keep facing up to it and trying to turn the situation around, for ourselves and for the club."

Many supporters have lost patience with Frank and his tactics, but there is an underlying feeling of apathy towards the club's owners - ENIC and the Lewis Family too, despite Daniel Levy - the ire of many fans in the last two decades - having been relieved of his duties as chairman at the start of the season.

And there may not be as much of a chance for boos around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, as, despite the cheaper price of tickets, the ground is unlikely to be full.

The fans are seemingly voting with their feet and not buying tickets to the match, with more than 4,000 tickets still available to buy at the time of writing this story, just one day before the game is due to take place.

Empty seats around the venue will certainly send a message to the owners and the head coach over how the fanbase are feeling right now, with the January transfer window becoming increasingly important.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Tottenham are interested in signing Man City forward Marmoush. The north London club are now involved in a tug-of-war to prise him away from the Etihad Stadium, with Aston Villa also keen on the Egyptian international.

During his time with the Seagulls he was considered for the Manchester United job in the summer of 2024. However, the Red Devils opted to appoint Erik ten Hag instead.

Linked with the Old Trafford job again this time around, De Zerbi could be a contender to replace Ruben Amorim on a permanent basis in the summer. Reports have emerged that the 46-year-old wants to replace Amorim as the manager in the summer, and would even be willing to quit his current role at Marseille to make it happen.

Micky van de Ven is considering leaving Tottenham Hotspur after the season and has earmarked Liverpool as his preferred destination, according to reports.

The Netherlands international is believed to be weighing up his options amid a difficult season with the north London club, who sit just 14th in the Premier League after 21 games.

If Liverpool end up moving for Van de Ven after the season, the Dutch centre-back could be brought in as a replacement for Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires after the season.

Bowen Arrival Would Boost Frank

At 29-years-old, Bowen is at the absolute peak of his powers and right now it's fair to say that West Ham are probably holding him back from reaching his full potential.

Tottenham are desperate to add goals to their team after a slow campaign, and an injury to Kudus means the right-wing spot could do with some additions to make them stronger. Bowen is also more than capable of playing through the middle as a central striker too, and that versatility would help too.

Getting a deal done for another West Ham player won't be easy considering how the fans reacted to Kudus' move, but Bowen is a club legend, and they will surely understand that he can't be playing in the Championship. If Tottenham come in with a big offer, this is one to keep a close eye on.

A left-sided forward, the 20-year-old has scored 23 goals and provided 18 assists in 108 appearances for Juventus, having progressed through the Bayern Munich youth ranks.

Hailed as a 'future Ballon d'Or winner', Yildiz has a contract that runs until the summer of 2029, with clubs circling to offer him improved terms.

But as per Gold's update, it's believed that the winger could still sign a new deal with the Serie A giants.

Tottenham Need Goals

While a deal to sign Yildiz could be hard to pull off, it shouldn't detract from how desperate Tottenham are for attacking reinforcements.

Goals have been really hard to come by for Thomas Frank's side this term with injuries and a lack of form leading to a somewhat blunt attack and a side who are languishing in mid-table.

Letting Johnson leave might prove to be the right decision in the long run, but as a player who has a decent goalscoring record for both Spurs and Nottingham Forest, it feels like a gamble to let him leave when options are so limited.

With Frank under increasing pressure in north London, Tottenham need to recruit well in January and that means signing a forward who can find the back of the net. The frustration is how many forwards are already at the club with none of them proving themselves as reliable options in terms of form or fitness.

With Bayern Munich confirming the young forward's desire to leave the club in search of more game-time, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were all said to be interested in a mid-season deal.

Tel was arguably world football's most in-demand player going into January Deadline Day 2025. And yet, almost an entire calendar year in north London has yielded very little rewards for a player revered by players, pundits, supporters and suitors alike.

So where has it all gone wrong for Tel at Tottenham, and why are we still waiting for the 'next Nicolas Anelka' to thrive in a Spurs shirt?

Levy and Postecoglou's Protracted Transfer Hunt

It is not like Daniel Levy, Spurs' former chairman, to make himself look desperate in the transfer market. But he saw no embarrassment in personally travelling to Germany to try and convince Tel to sign on the dotted line, having already agreed a £50m deal with Bayern Munich for his services.

Incredibly, the Frenchman rebuffed Spurs' advances and was seemingly holding out for a move to Manchester United. It took the Red Devils pulling out of the race, plus a direct conversation with Ange Postecoglou about his role in the team, to convince Tel to make a dramatic u-turn on deadline day and agree a loan deal until the end of the season.

Tel was subsequently signed permanently in the summer for £30m having shown promise by finding the back of the net twice in the Premier League during the second half of last season. And yet, we're still waiting for Tel to make any kind of mark under Thomas Frank.

Frank Needs to Give Tel a Chance

Tel is supposed to be one of the more promising players of his generation, but he can hardly get a game in a Spurs team that struggles to score goals. They've netted 28 times from 20 games in the Premier League; the average for teams in the division's top six at this point in the season is 36.

Tel has been given just four starts in the Premier League by Frank, although interestingly one of those was in Spurs' most recent game with Sunderland. After the match and looking ahead to Wednesday's clash with Bournemouth, Frank said regarding the left-wing position in his starting XI:

"There’s no one who’s really grabbed that shirt on the left-hand side, so I think that’s definitely up for grabs. I think it was a positive performance from Mathys. I think he did some positive things and got into good situations.

"Let’s see what will happen against Bournemouth, but it’s also that fine balance of giving some players the trust for a run of games, so they can maybe hopefully find a bit of rhythm and also increase their performance level.

"Then the tactical approach of the opponents, which players fit to that and get the right mix and balance in the team, but Matty in general was positive."

It wasn't exactly a commitment to giving Tel another start against Bournemouth, but by Frank's own admission, some players will need a run in the side to truly get the best out of them. It feels as though that's exactly what Tel needs - a consistent spell in the team where he can develop confidence and contribute a few goals - but right now his capacity to thrive at Spurs is being stifled by a lack of opportunities.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Yang Min-hyeok is set to join Coventry City on loan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The South Korea international, who is currently spending the season at Portsmouth, is reportedly set to swap Championship clubs following a five-month spell at Fratton Park.

The 'remarkable' 19-year-old has yet to feature for Spurs since arriving last January from South Korean side Gangwon FC, despite making the matchday squad on three occasions.

Yang has registered three goals and one assist in 15 Championship appearances – nine of which were starts – for Portsmouth this term.

According to Romano, Tottenham have agreed a deal for Yang’s loan move to Coventry, just five months after sending the winger out on loan to Portsmouth.

Yang spent the second part of last season on loan at fellow Championship side QPR, where he scored twice in 14 league appearances.

The 19-year-old also represented South Korea at the Under-17s World Cup two years ago and won his first senior international cap in March.

Yang has picked up two caps for South Korea since, including in the 2-1 friendly win over Bolivia in November, when he came on for Paris Saint-Germain star Lee Kang-in in the second half.

The right winger has struggled for playing time at Portsmouth recently, clocking up just 31 minutes of action across their last five league games.

Tottenham Eyeing a New Winger

Tottenham are looking to bolster their wide options following Brennan Johnson’s departure to Crystal Palace and, according to reports, are among the clubs monitoring RB Leipzig starlet Yan Diomande.

The north London side have been attentive to the 19-year-old winger’s displays in the Bundesliga, with Diomande netting six goals and providing three assists in 14 appearances.

Leipzig only signed the Ivory Coast international last summer from Spanish side Leganes and look unlikely to sell in January, despite significant interest from several English and European clubs.

Diomande is under contract with Leipzig until the end of the 2029/30 season.
