Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has promoted Mason Melia to first-team training as the club's injury crisis worsens, according to Football London correspondent Alasdair Gold.

Gold adds that Melia could be battling fellow January addition James Wilson, who joined from Hearts, for a spot on the substitutes' bench in the remaining four Premier League games.

While Spurs will be desperate to keep hold of a host of their players ahead of the new season, regardless of what division they are playing in, Dragusin is unlikely to be someone they fight for.

The report says that Simons was committed to staying at Spurs if they preserved their Premier League status, with Tottenham also understanding that the Dutchman was one of their most saleable assets if they did drop to the Championship.

Those plans will have to be ripped up now, given he may not return to action until 2027.

His performances in attack have seen the Glasgow club look into bringing him back for next season, and the player is understood to be ready to go back if the situation suits. But Spurs are now likely to be able to offer him regular game time, and under a manager like De Zerbi he would thrive.
