Sandro Tonali wants to 'honour his word' and sign for Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the Italian midfielder this summer, with the Lilywhites seeing an initial bid of £75million rejected by Newcastle United. The Lilywhites are even understood to have made a bizarre second bid for the Magpies midfielder, which was no higher than their initial bid. It was obviously rejected once more.

GIVEMESPORT understands that Tottenham plan on going back to Newcastle with another bid, with the Magpies looking for a total package of £100million to sanction a deal.

Tonali gets huge pay increase at Tottenham

According to Sky Sports Italy, Tonali has already "said yes" to Spurs with personal terms agreed for the 26-year-old to make the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims that Tonali will increase his Newcastle salary, which was for £8million-a-year to between £12million and £13million in N17.

The north Londoners need to come to an agreement with Newcastle over the fee and how it will be paid. GIVEMESPORT understands Spurs are willing to stretch to £85million with potential add-ons on top of that, which could convince Newcastle to sell.

Tottenham face plenty of competition for Tonali's services, with Manchester City understood to be very interested in the player. City have been working on a deal to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116million, with add-ons taking that figure past the £125million British transfer record Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak last summer.

But City are keen to sign Tonali as well. Manchester United and Arsenal have also been named as interested parties, but Tonali has reportedly given his word to countryman Roberto De Zerbi that he will sign for Spurs this summer.

Speaking on his Caffe di Marzio podcast, Italian football journalist Gianluca di Marzio said that Tonali is "determined to honour his word to Roberto De Zerbi" that he will sign for Tottenham.

It now depends on the club, so who can agree terms with West Ham will get the player, and it's about the money, because they start at £85million, could be more if these clubs keep fighting for the same player, and also payment tariffs are also important for West Ham, so it's not just about the fee, it's also about the timing to pay this money."

Now, Tottenham are hoping to steal a march on United by offering a swap deal to the Hammers as part of the transfer.

In a post on X, WestHam_Central, in conjunction with Hammers insider ExWHUEmployee stated that "Spurs have offered players to tempt us".

And one of those players is reported as being youngster Mikey Moore.

The 18-year-old is a highly-regarded prospect at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and enjoyed a fine season away from the club on loan with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership in the 2025/26 season.

The teenager played 47 times across all competitions for the Gers, named in the starting XI for 32 of them. He scored seven goals and laid on four assists and earned rave reviews for his performances out wide.

Many Tottenham supporters are excited to see him return to the club, but with no European football in the upcoming season, he may find first-team chances harder to come by.

And according the the Hammers insiders, Moore has been offered to the east London club on loan as part of the deal to take Fernandes to Spurs.

With Crysensico Summerville another Hammer linked with an exit from the London Stadium, Moore could be the perfect addition to help them get back into the Premier League, while also securing first team experience in England before returning once more to Tottenham.

Mateus Fernandes does not have a preference which club he joins this summer, as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head for his signature.

That is according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who explained on his latest YouTube video that both clubs are in verbal communication with West Ham over a deal to sign the 21-year-old this summer.

Romano said: "I see many reports, one day he's close to United, one day he's close to Tottenham. The reality of this story is that Mateus Fernandes is prepared to go to Man United or Tottenham. The player is open to both moves.

"He doesn't want to stay at West Ham, obviously, he doesn't want to play in the Championship next season, it's almost impossible, but he's ready to go to Man Utd, Tottenham, the player is not creating an issue on this.

Tottenham have been handed a major blow in their efforts to sign Marcus Rashford this summer, according to the i Paper, as the Manchester United ace is not currently open to join the club.

Tottenham's move for Rashford would've been expensive in the long-term, not due to the transfer fee, but due to the likely wages the club would have to take on.

The Man United star earns £325,000-a-week, according to reports, and Tottenham are seemingly willing to pay that wage if they can get a deal over the line.

Club: Stuttgart

Tottenham's most pressing midfield issue last season was arguably the lack of ball progression. The likes of Conor Gallagher, Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur have desirable attributes, but getting the ball up the pitch through passing isn't part of their repertoire.

Tonali also doesn't excel in this aspect of the game, but Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller does. Stiller is renowned for his exceptional range of passing, and this is reflected in his impressive ball progression statistics.

The 25-year-old has been on the market for a couple of windows now and is yet to be snapped up by a big club, despite enjoying two outstanding seasons in the Bundesliga. He reportedly has a £35 million release clause in his contract, and Spurs should leap at this opportunity if the move for Tonali falls flat.

Adam Wharton

Age: 22

Club: Crystal Palace

If Spurs are on the hunt for a pure midfield passer, then they should look no further than Adam Wharton. While Crystal Palace aren't likely to sanction a deal for a fee that doesn't closely resemble the asking price for Tonali, investing in a younger player with higher upside might make more sense regardless.

Spurs have already been linked with Wharton, and while the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are also said to be in the race, Roberto De Zerbi may be able to offer the Englishman more certainty and more of a defined role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Wharton would fit the former Brighton manager's style like a glove. De Zerbi's build-up patterns are all about drawing the press in before playing round it with smart and incisive passes. Wharton's best attribute is his forward passing in between the lines.

Mateus Fernandes

Age: 21

Club: West Ham United

Like Wharton, Mateus Fernandes would represent a smart long-term acquisition for Tottenham. The North London side aren't likely to win a major honour in the next two or three years, and thus, signing a younger player who can develop with De Zerbi's project makes more sense than going big on a player in his prime in Tonali.

Spurs have reportedly been given the 'green light' to sign Fernandes, and there are suggestions that he could be added alongside the Newcastle man. Whether or not this is plausible financially remains to be seen, but Fernandes alone would suffice.

The West Ham midfielder thrived in a disjointed Hammers side last season, displaying his defensive tenacity, invention in possession and physical prowess. In a more settled system under De Zerbi, he could easily reach another level.

Manu Kone

Age: 25

Club: Roma

Currently impressing for France at the World Cup, Manu Kone is looking for a new club this summer. He's been linked with Arsenal, although he may ultimately make more sense for Spurs.

While reports indicate that Kone has given the Gunners priority over Tottenham, De Zerbi should have the ability to seduce the Frenchman. The likes of Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi would block Kone's minutes at the Emirates, while at Tottenham, his robust style could see him become the main man in the middle of the park in N17.

Given that he'd be arriving from overseas and with significantly less pedigree than the likes of Tonali, Wharton and Fernandes, Kone could cost considerably less, and thus preserve funds for other transfers.

Ayyoub Bouaddi

Age: 18

Club: Lille

If Tottenham really want to build for the long-term, then they should consider signing one of the hottest midfield prospects in Europe. Ayyoub Bouaddi is the subject of intense interest from the likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, but once again, Tottenham could sell a more enticing project to the youngster.

At the Emirates or the Parc des Princes, Bouaddi's minutes are likely to be somewhat limited, particularly in the short-term. This could stall his development, while at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he would play regularly from the outset.

He boasts similar attributes to Tonali in his ability to cover ground and carry out defensive work, making him an excellent alternative.

Back in 2023, Mike McGrath described Rashford as one of the best in the world, writing for BBC Sport: "On the current form, with Rashford being as good as he is and one of the best players in the world, we can win the Europa League," he said.

Things took a turn for the worse the following season when Rashford became one of a number of players to fall out with then boss Erik ten Hag. A loan spell at Aston Villa followed, but it is at Barcelona where he would rediscover his form.

With goals and assists aplenty, 14 of each, Rashford was a key part of an already ultra-talented Barca attack, and there is now belief he could be back to his best, and still only 28 years of age, there is plenty of gas still left in the tank.

Why Rashford wasn't signed by Barcelona

Rashford played a big part in Barca winning the LaLiga title, scoring 14 and assisting as many across all competitions last season. The England international will have hoped to land a permanent deal on the back of that form, but the Catalan giants did not activate their option to buy.

They did not - and do not - rule out a deal at this stage, but their current priority is to find a new number nine to replace Robert Lewandowski. The Blaugrana are well aware that a striker deal could be very costly, and so they will revisit the Rashford situation if he remains available later in the window. The same transfer stance saw Barca miss out on Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid, but unless they are not pivoting from the current approach, and that could see the price they have to pay for Rashford increase, given the clause is no longer available to them, and it may mean the England international goes elsewhere.
