Tottenham Most Likely to Sign Maghnes Akliouche Ahead of Any Other Winger

Description

Tottenham Hotspur could hand boss Thomas Frank more money to spend in the coming weeks, despite their poor form - with GIVEMESPORT being told that Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche is on their radar.

Spurs spent big in the summer, landing the likes of Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palhinha, Randal Kolo Muani and more in a bid to give Frank a huge helping hand to his Tottenham spell.

That hasn't quite happened. Despite sitting third after nine games, with five wins to their name by that point, Spurs have only won two games out of 12 in the Premier League since. It's that sinking feeling again and, as a result, Frank may look to new recruits.

Maghnes Akliouche to Tottenham is 'One to Keep an Eye On'

Speaking on GIVEMESPORT's 'Market Madness' podcast, journalist Sessions stated that if any winger was to come in, Akliouche would be their top target - although Tottenham would only pay a maximum of around £43million to land the 'insane' France international, as opposed to the £60million that Monaco desire. Sessions said:

"I think, probably the one that I feel like it's going to happen this window or maybe in the summer, it feels like Maghnes Akliouche actually is one to keep an eye on.

"Spurs were interested in the summer. I mean, Monaco kind of expected him to be sold in the summer. €70million (£60.7million) price tag, I think, put a few clubs off.

"And because they couldn't sell, they actually sort of struggle to reinvest and boost their squad like they'd hoped. But I think Monaco are ready that he is going to be leaving at some point.

"And although he's not a left midfielder, he's somebody that can play on the right, is left-footed, can come inside and play in the 10 as well as the left.

"He feels like, if Spurs are going to sign anyone this month, that they're probably going to be looking at someone like that.

"[Akliouche] is a really good player, but he's not going to be €70million. I think his price is going more close to €50million (£43.3million), which is generally where Spurs are doing their business - even though there has been a change and Daniel Levy has left.

"I don't think you're going to see Spurs spending £70-80million just yet, especially not in January. But I feel like if they're going to sign anyone this window, and they're going to be a wide player, it's probably going to be Maghnes Akliouche."

Tottenham's Winger Transfer Record Has Been Far From Ideal in Recent Years

Tottenham do need to be careful in the winger market. The club have brought in a lot of wingers in recent years, with very few having success in north London.

Son Heung-min has left the club after years of service, whilst Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison have somewhat shown they have a place at Tottenham throughout their spells.

However, the likes of Bryan Gil, Arnaut Danjuma, Manor Solomon, Timo Werner, Ryan Sessegnon and Brennan Johnson have all departed the club without completely stamping their mark at the club, and the jury is still out on Wilson Odobert, Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel.

It's been an area that Spurs have largely struggled in recent years, ever since the days of Son and Lucas Moura, and they will be hoping that Akliouche can change that if he is the chosen man to come into their ranks.

After Gallagher: Tottenham Exploring Move to Sign £30m Star who is 'On Another Planet' - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are showing an interest in signing Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney, with Spurs 'dreaming' of securing his signature, according to a report from TEAMtalk.

It's been a busy start to the January transfer window for the Spurs hierarchy, with one incoming and one outgoing within Thomas Frank's senior squad so far. Brennan Johnson made the short trip across London to join Crystal Palace at the beginning of the window, while Spurs have recently confirmed the signing of Conor Gallagher in the middle of the park.

Their business doesn't appear to be ending there, with Santos left-back Souza set to undergo a medical this week ahead of completing his move to north London. After such a disappointing opening half of the Premier League season, it's certainly no surprise that Tottenham are still in the market for reinforcements.

Tottenham Eyeing Another Midfielder After Gallagher

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are exploring a move to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Hackney, who has been slapped with a £30m price tag. It's claimed that Spurs are 'dreaming' of signing the England youth international, but they face competition from a host of other Premier League clubs.

Boro believe that they are unlikely to see a club match their valuation in the current window, and they are reluctant to sell him in the January market. If they fail to achieve promotion, then Hackney could become more attainable.

Hackney would offer Spurs something different in midfield, especially in comparison to Gallagher. The Middlesbrough man is more of a progressive player who loves to drive with the ball and play forward, whereas Gallagher is known for his defensive work rate and winning the ball back from the opposition.

Hackney's a Different Profile to Gallagher

As mentioned, Hackney would offer something different from Gallagher, which is why a move for the former would make sense alongside the latter. Scouted Ftbl described Hackney as being 'on another planet' in terms of progressing the ball, whereas Gallagher is a midfielder more likely to help out with the defensive side of the game.

If both players arrive through the door, then Thomas Frank will have a difficult task fitting them in alongside his current options. Rodrigo Bentancur is currently on the sidelines for an extended period due to injury, but Spurs still have the likes of Archie Gray, Joao Palhinha, and Lucas Bergvall as options in the middle of the park.

Real Reason Conor Gallagher Signed For Tottenham Over Aston Villa

The Real Reason Conor Gallagher Signed For Tottenham After Aston Villa Snub - GiveMeSport
Description

Conor Gallagher became Tottenham Hotspur's first signing of the January transfer window on Wednesday when he completed a £35million move from Atletico Madrid.

Gallagher, who moved to the Spanish capital from Chelsea in 2024, returns to the Premier League on a five-and-a-half year contract with Spurs.

With Rodrigo Bentancur suffering a hamstring injury, that has required surgery and will keep him out for three months, and Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma having been away at the African Cup of Nations, Thomas Frank has been bereft of midfield options.

Injuries and Unavailability Spark Spurs Into Transfer Action

Tottenham had to beat off competition from Aston Villa for the 25-year-old's signature, with Gallagher initially looking set to sign for Unai Emery's title-chasing side.

However, a late move from Spurs, in the wake of Bentancur's injury, won the day, with the Lilywhites actually tying up a deal pretty quickly - something they have been accused of failing to do in recent times.

So what was it that swung things in Spurs' favour?

From Atletico Madrid's point of view, Tottenham were easier to do business with because they offered the Spanish giants exactly what they wanted - a quick, permanent sale.

Tottenham Moved Quickly To Confirm Transfer

Aston Villa, with the shadow of Profit & Sustainability Rules and Squad Cost Ratio hanging over them, were inclined to do a loan deal, with an option to buy at the end of it - much like they had with Harvey Elliott - a deal that has not gone well with the Liverpool loanee told he will not play for Emery's side again this season and thus the £35million buy obligation will not come into force.

Tottenham were prepared to pay the €40million (£35million) asking price for a permanent signing, which was accepted, with Gallagher agreeing personal terms and passing a medical swiftly.

From the player's side, Gallagher was always keen to return to the Premier League, having been let go by Chelsea and may return with something of a point to prove to his boyhood club, now with their fierce rivals.

Speaking to the official Tottenham Hotspur website, Gallagher explained his decision.

“I wanted to be a Spurs player and thankfully the Club felt the same. It was very easy, it happened very quickly and I'm ready to get on the pitch. I know how great the fans are, I’m really happy to be a part of it here and want to create special moments and memories together.”

Having grown up in Surrey and played for much of his career in London, returning to the capital played a big part in the midfielder's decision, GIVEMESPORT understands.

London Was A Big Factor For Gallager

The pull of playing in London, over returning to the Midlands - where he spent a year on loan with West Bromwich Albion in 2020/21 - was great, giving Spurs the edge over Villa.

With Villa third in the Premier League and more likely than Spurs (14th) to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, there needed to be another selling point for Gallagher too.

Villa have a settled side and are out-performing expectations under Emery this season. On the flip side, Tottenham have struggled and Frank needs organisation and control in his midfield. That's where Gallagher comes in and the fact that he is more likely to get guaranteed starts at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium than at Villa Park will also have played a part in his decision.

Tottenham Hotspur have been presented with a potential opportunity in the transfer market as Karim Adeyemi's situation at Borussia Dortmund continues to attract attention, according to TEAMtalk.

The German international has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga this month, with Dortmund understood to be open to discussions at the right price.

With Spurs already active in January and planning further attacking reinforcements, the winger market remains under close review. While no formal approach has been made, the possibility of Adeyemi becoming available has now been raised internally, prompting further assessment over whether such a deal would align with Tottenham’s short and long-term strategy as the window progresses.

Adeyemi offered to Tottenham as winger search continues

Speaking for TEAMtalk, transfer journalist Dean Jones revealed that Tottenham have been “offered” the chance to sign Karim Adeyemi, with Borussia Dortmund believed to value the forward at around £60 million this month.

“I’ve heard whispers about Karim Adeyemi being offered to them,” Jones said during a Facebook Live broadcast alongside Graeme Bailey on Tuesday evening. “I think he’s going to be pricey, and I don’t know whether he’s exactly the right fit for what they want.”

Adeyemi’s availability comes as Dortmund assess their options ahead of the second half of the season, with the Bundesliga side prepared to listen to significant offers. Tottenham, meanwhile, remain focused on adding attacking quality following their recent midfield business, but any move for Adeyemi - described as being 'ice-cold' and 'faster than a speeding bullet' - would represent a major financial commitment.

Bailey added that Spurs are expected to prioritise a winger as their “next major” signing after completing their midfield plans, reinforcing the idea that wide areas remain a key focus for the club.

Why Adeyemi remains a high-risk, high-reward option

From a sporting perspective, Adeyemi offers qualities Tottenham currently lack in wide areas. His pace, direct running and ability to stretch defences make him a constant threat in transition, while his experience at Champions League level adds pedigree despite his age. When at his best, the Germany international has shown he can decide matches at the highest level.

However, concerns remain over consistency and fit. Adeyemi has endured an uneven spell at Dortmund, with injuries and form fluctuations preventing him from establishing himself as an undisputed starter. That context explains Jones’ caution over whether the winger aligns perfectly with Spurs’ tactical needs under their current setup.

Financially, a £60 million valuation would place Adeyemi among Tottenham’s most expensive signings, increasing the scrutiny surrounding any deal. Spurs are expected to weigh value carefully rather than act opportunistically, particularly given wider squad needs and ongoing injury concerns.

As it stands, no formal talks have been confirmed, but Adeyemi being offered to Tottenham underlines the scale of opportunity available in the market. Whether Spurs choose to pursue the deal will depend on cost, fit and how their winger search evolves as January enters a decisive phase.

Tottenham Make Contact for 'Dream' £100m Signing After Conor Gallagher - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have decided that Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton is their 'dream' signing after Conor Gallagher, as they consider signing another midfielder in 2026, according to TEAMtalk.

The England international has established himself as one of the top players in his position in the Premier League during his time at Selhurst Park, with another big-six club in Manchester United also putting him at the top of their shortlist ahead of the summer.

Spurs trying to pull off a deal for the in-demand 21-year-old has been described as an 'audacious' move, as Thomas Frank looks to reshuffle his midfield ahead of next season.

The North Londoners confirmed the £35m signing of Gallagher on Wednesday, in the first step of their midfield rebuild.

If Tottenham get their way, Gallagher won't be the last high-profile midfield signing this year.

According to TEAMtalk, Spurs have already launched initial enquiries over a deal for Wharton in 2026 and they are now deciding how possible it is for them to sign the Englishman in the next two transfer windows.

The North London outfit now view the 21-year-old as the 'dream' signing after Gallagher, and will spare no expense when it comes to transfer fee or wages in a bid to land him.

GIVEMESPORT revealed last year that Palace want £100m if they are to part ways with their prized midfield asset.

Spurs are likely to face competition for Wharton's signature, with Manchester United including him in their top three targets to bolster their central midfield in the summer alongside Brighton and Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson.

TEAMtalk journalist Dean Jones said:

There have been reports elsewhere now about how there is still a drive to sign a midfielder who is capable of conducting play from deep, and while Wharton is not the only option, he is a dream option.

What Other Business Could Tottenham do in January?

Santos left-back is Souza is due for his medical today and if all goes well, he will join Gallagher through the doors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Whether Tottenham can fund another big midfielder deal like Wharton this month remains to be seen, with the other position they seem to be targeting in attack.

Spurs have been linked with another ambitious move for RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande, with Alasdair Gold also confirming interest in FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa this week.

The loss of Mohammed Kudus to injury until April has heightened the need for a new player in Frank's frontline, which will be the mission for Johan Lange and Co in the next weeks.

Pressure Building on Thomas Frank

With Tottenham sitting 14th in the Premier League table and without a win in their last four matches - as well as being knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa - Frank is coming under pressure from the club's supporters.

Spurs face a big London derby against West Ham United next this weekend, and Gallagher could come straight into the starting XI due to the lack of options in that area after Rodrigo Bentancur was ruled out for three months.

Frank will hope that Gallagher can bring some leadership and quality to help the club win on his debut.

Tottenham Make Andoni Iraola Top Candidate to Replace Thomas Frank

Tottenham Make 'One of the Best Managers in the World' Top Candidate to Replace Thomas Frank - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are keen admirers of Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola as pressure mounts on current boss Thomas Frank's job, according to TEAMtalk.

Tottenham's season has reached a delicate stage, with pressure continuing to mount on Frank amid a run of damaging results, including their 3rd round FA Cup exit following defeat to Aston Villa, and the club are now believed to be looking at potential replacements.

The team are also currently sitting 14th in the Premier League table, which has left little margin for error, while frustration among supporters continues to grow. Internally, there is an awareness that performances must improve quickly to avoid further instability, and attention has begun to turn to potential alternatives should change be deemed necessary.

Iraola admired as Frank pressure grows

According to TEAMtalk, Frank is under growing pressure at Tottenham, with the club’s hierarchy closely monitoring results ahead of this weekend’s clash against West Ham United. Sources suggest that defeat could significantly escalate the situation surrounding Frank’s future.

It's understood that should Spurs decide to act, Bournemouth boss Iraola is among the managers admired by the club, and he would be a top candidate for the role.

The Spaniard, who has been described as 'one of the best managers in world football' has earned praise for his work in the Premier League, instilling an aggressive, high-energy style that has made his side difficult to play against. While no approach has been made and Frank remains in charge, Iraola’s name is understood to feature prominently in discussions as Tottenham weigh up potential next steps.

Why Iraola Could Appeal to Tottenham’s Hierarchy

From Tottenham’s perspective, Iraola represents a profile that aligns with the club’s desire for intensity, structure and a clear playing identity.

His teams are known for their pressing, organisation and tactical discipline - qualities Spurs have lacked at key moments this season. Importantly, Iraola has shown an ability to maximise available resources rather than relying on wholesale squad turnover, something that could appeal to decision-makers amid wider financial and squad considerations.

Unlike a short-term caretaker, Iraola would be viewed as a long-term project appointment capable of stabilising performances while implementing a defined style of play. His success adapting quickly to the Premier League environment also reduces the risk associated with an in-season change.

For now, Frank remains in charge, but with Tottenham’s hierarchy prepared to act if results continue to deteriorate, Iraola’s growing reputation means he is a name that cannot be ignored. The outcome against West Ham may yet prove decisive in determining whether Spurs persist with their current direction or look elsewhere for a reset.

Tottenham Eyeing Move to Sign 'Elite' £70m Striker After Conor Gallagher

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have already agreed two January transfers, but attention could next turn to bringing in a new forward, with Football London journalist Alasdair Gold confirming interest in FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa.

Conor Gallagher and Souza are set to join from Atletico Madrid and Santos respectively once medicals are completed this week, as Spurs chiefs look to bolster a squad that lies 14th in the Premier League table.

Gallagher will help fill the gap left by Rodrigo Bentancur being ruled out for three months with a hamstring injury, but the North London club also need a new attacker after Mohammed Kudus was also ruled out until April with a thigh issue.

Spurs monitoring Samu Aghehowa

According to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur are among a number of clubs tracking Porto striker Samu Aghehowa following his impressive form this season. The 21-year-old has scored 19 goals in 25 appearances, establishing himself as one of the standout young forwards in Portuguese football.

Aghehowa’s rise has not gone unnoticed, and he has been described as 'elite' by Como scout Ben Mattinson on X.

Spurs’ interest comes amid uncertainty around their attacking depth, with Dominic Solanke only just returning from injury and Richarlison again sidelined. While Randal Kolo Muani offers versatility, questions remain over whether his loan spell should be converted into a permanent deal.

Football London report that Porto are under no pressure to sell mid-season, with suggestions last year he would cost at least £70m. Any move would therefore be highly competitive, with Spurs expected to face interest from several major European clubs should Aghehowa become available.

Why Aghehowa fits Tottenham’s long-term striker planning

From Tottenham’s perspective, Aghehowa fits a profile the club have increasingly prioritised in recent windows: young, physically strong, mobile forwards with scope to develop into leading Premier League attackers. His finishing record, movement inside the penalty area and ability to lead the line would complement Frank’s attacking demands, particularly in games where Spurs need a focal point rather than rotation options.

However, Football London do make it clear that a January move is unlikely. Tottenham’s immediate focus remains on stabilising results amid an injury-hit campaign, while major attacking investment is expected to be reassessed in the summer.

With Porto keen to retain Aghehowa and his value rising rapidly, Spurs are more likely to maintain close monitoring rather than force negotiations this month.

Still, Tottenham’s interest underlines a broader acknowledgement inside the club: addressing the striker position will be essential if Spurs are to move forward with clarity and avoid repeating the same structural issues next season.

Mauricio Pochettino Open to Tottenham Return as Thomas Frank Pressure Grows

ENIC Want Him: 'World-Class' Manager Open to Joining Tottenham in Summer - GiveMeSport
Description

Aston Villa are interested in signing former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham in the January transfer window, and he is keen on returning to England, according to talkSPORT.

Abraham left England back in 2021, joining Italian side Roma from Chelsea. Since then, he's remained with the Serie A outfit, spending time on loan at AC Milan, before his most recent temporary move with Besiktas. A move back to the Premier League could now be on the cards, but he's currently flourishing in Turkey.

Abraham has scored seven goals in 17 games for Besiktas, also finding the back of the net on five occasions in six appearances in Europe. Aston Villa are likely in the market for a new forward in the January transfer window as Unai Emery looks to build on what he's done this season, with the Midlands club competing towards the top of the Premier League table.

Abraham Wants Premier League Return

According to a report from talkSPORT, Abraham is keen on a return to England after almost five years away from the Premier League. The 28-year-old is currently on loan at Besiktas from Roma, but the Turkish side have an obligation to sign him permanently in the summer transfer window later this year.

GIVEMESPORT sources have confirmed that Villa are interested in signing Abraham in the winter window, while they were also keen on Conor Gallagher, before Tottenham Hotspur hijacked the move. It's understood that Abraham could still leave Besiktas, despite their obligation to buy, for a fee under £15m.

Roma would prefer to offload Abraham on a permanent deal as they seek funds to bring in a new striker and centre-back.

Abraham Familiar With Aston Villa

Abraham, who reportedly earns £145,000-a-week, is no stranger to Villa Park, having spent the 2018/2019 season on loan with the Midlands club from Chelsea. The English forward scored 26 goals in all competitions during that campaign, helping Villa gain promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

It's been a while since Abraham plied his trade in the Premier League, while he's also suffered injury problems during his time away. If Villa can secure his signature for a fee under £15m, it could be a risk worth taking, especially with their lack of options in the centre-forward position. Emery's side haven't replaced Jhon Duran with a natural centre-forward, with a lot of pressure placed on the shoulders of Ollie Watkins.

ENIC Want Him: 'World-Class' Manager Open to Joining Tottenham as Frank Update Emerges - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s season has reached a critical stage, with pressure intensifying on Thomas Frank and uncertainty growing over the club’s direction. A damaging FA Cup exit to Aston Villa and a slide to 14th in the Premier League table have left Spurs with little margin for error, while frustration among supporters continues to build. Internally, contingency planning is now taking place as results fail to improve, and attention has turned to potential alternatives should a change be required. One name, in particular, has emerged in the background. Mauricio Pochettino, a familiar figure in north London, is understood to be keeping a close eye on developments as Tottenham approach a defining period of the campaign.

TEAMtalk: Frank under pressure as Pochettino interest emerges

According to TEAMtalk, Thomas Frank is facing an increasingly precarious situation at Tottenham Hotspur, with his job security hanging in the balance ahead of this weekend’s clash against West Ham United. Sources suggest that defeat could act as a tipping point, significantly escalating the situation around the Dane’s future.

Frank arrived in north London with a strong reputation following his work at Brentford, where he oversaw promotion from the Championship and several seasons of Premier League stability. However, his time at Spurs has raised concerns, with inconsistent performances and a lack of momentum undermining confidence within the hierarchy. TEAMtalk also report that CEO Vinai Venkatesham had previously been warned by some senior figures that appointing Frank would carry risk — concerns that have since resurfaced.

Crucially, TEAMtalk add that Mauricio Pochettino, described as 'world-class', is believed to be open to a return to Tottenham after the World Cup, should the opportunity arise. While no formal approach has been made, his interest places him firmly in the conversation as Spurs weigh their options.

Why a Pochettino return could make sense for Spurs

From a sporting and emotional perspective, Pochettino’s return would be a move capable of reconnecting Tottenham with their fanbase at a time of growing disillusionment. His previous spell at the club was defined by a clear identity, high-intensity football and sustained competitiveness at the top end of the Premier League - something supporters feel has been missing in recent seasons.

Pochettino’s familiarity with the club, the pressure of managing at Tottenham and the expectations that come with it would also reduce the risk often associated with mid-season appointments. Unlike an external candidate, he would not require time to understand the environment, and his presence would immediately command authority within the dressing room.

While questions would inevitably be asked about timing, particularly given his current commitments, Spurs’ hierarchy are aware that opportunities to appoint a manager with such alignment to the club do not come around often. If results continue to slide, a return to a proven figure may be viewed not as a step backwards, but as a necessary reset.

For now, Frank remains in charge - but with Tottenham’s hierarchy prepared to act, the outcome against West Ham could prove decisive in determining whether the club commit to continuity or move towards a reunion that many supporters still believe represents their clearest path forward.

Man City Group Reach Agreement to Sign Tottenham Forward in Shock January Deal

Man City Group Reach Agreement to Sign Tottenham Forward in Shock January Deal - GiveMeSport
Description

Manchester City owners City Football Group (CFG) has reached an agreement in principle to sign Tottenham Hotspur forward Alejo Veliz, with their offer believed to be 'quite high', according to UOL.

The City Football Group own a number of clubs across the world, including Man City, Girona, Palermo, Troyes, Melbourne City, and Yokohama F. Marinos. Their most successful side is, of course, Manchester City, and the multi-club ownership model has seen all clubs benefit, with players often traded between the teams.

It's a model that's becoming increasingly popular within the modern game, with Chelsea and Strasbourg, both owned by BlueCo, another high-profile case.

Man City Group Agree Deal for Tottenham Star

According to a report from UOL, via Sport Witness, Man City owners City Football Group have reached an agreement in principle to sign Tottenham star Veliz, who is currently on loan at Rosario Central. Their offer is believed to be 'quite high', and Spurs could now cancel his loan in order to complete a permanent exit.

The move has come as a 'complete surprise', and there's a belief that Veliz will complete a move to CFG. It's unclear how CFG plan on using Veliz, and which club he will end up at, while it's also unconfirmed whether he's keen on cancelling his loan deal and making another move this month.

Veliz made the move to Spurs back in 2023, signing a six-year deal with the north London club. His arrival hasn't quite worked out as expected, making just eight Premier League appearances for the club. He's now on his third loan spell away from Tottenham, spending time with Sevilla and Espanyol before his recent Rosario Central move.

Time for Veliz to Move Permanently

Tottenham clearly rated Veliz incredibly highly when they first secured his signature, as it's not too often they hand out six-year deals. For one reason or another, it's not worked out for him at Tottenham, but it's certainly interesting that a successful group like CFG are interested in signing him.

There's little chance they are looking to take him to Man City, but either way, if Spurs have received a significant offer and it's not worked out for him at the club, it make sense for them to allow him to depart permanently. He's hardly pulled up any trees during his loan spells to warrant Spurs giving him a chance in the senior squad.
