Description

A moment of individual brilliance from former Tottenham player Oliver Skipp has been doing the rounds on social media, as Leicester City lose in the FA Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur have since crashed out of the FA Cup following a third-round defeat to Aston Villa, with the loss coming earlier in the year.

That currently leaves Spurs with the Premier League and Champions League to focus on for the remainder of the season.

Their absence in the FA Cup, however, has allowed them to have a considerable amount of rest, while other sides in England are left to battle it out.

Former Tottenham star Oliver Skipp scores overhead kick in FA Cup

Former Spurs man Oliver Skipp is currently at Leicester City, having completed a move to the Championship side back in 2024.

The 25-year-old was on the pitch for Marti Cifuentes’ side when they faced Southampton in the FA Cup and managed to score a stunning goal.

It was a spectacular overhead kick from Skipp inside the Saints’ box, a goal that helped Leicester draw level, although they lost the game 2-1.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That strike was his second of the season for the Foxes, and you can watch the goal below.

Leicester City’s domestic struggles continue

Skipp and Leicester are currently struggling domestically as they find themselves 22nd in the Championship.

The Foxes are currently without a win in their last five matches in their domestic league, but there is still a chance of them leaving the relegation zone.

At the moment, three points is the difference between the Foxes and 19th place, although they have played two games more than the team in 21st and one game more than the team in 18th.

Tottenham wanted Abel Ferreira as first-choice before hiring Igor Tudor

Tottenham wanted Abel Ferreira as first-choice before hiring Igor Tudor - Spurs Web
Description

Igor Tudor will be the man in the dugout for Tottenham until the end of the season, but he wasn’t the first manager they approached over the last week.

After sacking Thomas Frank, there was much speculation over who would replace him at Spurs. While Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be the top target, the fact that he is still in a job with the USA made that very difficult for the Lilywhites.

Instead, the club opted for an interim manager until the end of the season, with Igor Tudor eventually getting the gig.

Fans are torn on Tudor so far, but it’s probably best to reserve judgment until at least after his first game. However, he very nearly didn’t get the job, with Spurs apparently, having a different idea entirely.

Tottenham wanted Abel Ferreira instead

According to a report from ESPN Brazil, Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira was actually the man Tottenham approached before they turned their attention to Tudor.

Interestingly, the report claims Spurs actually reached out to Ferreira about two weeks ago, before Frank was sacked. But, with the Portuguese coach having just signed a contract extension (through to 2027), he did not want to discuss terms with the Lilywhites.

Ferreira has already reportedly rejected Nottingham Forest, Wolverhampton and even Chelsea in the past few months. It’s thought he is not a man easily tempted by financial benefits or prestige, and instead prioritises an environment with strong organisation, planning and structure.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The report adds that Tottenham also considered Robbie Keane, Marco Rose, and Roberto De Zerbi before landing Tudor for the temporary gig.

Will Spurs go back for Ferreira in the summer?

Tudor may have a good record in short-term roles like this one, but he is almost certainly not going to be the Tottenham manager beyond this season.

Instead, it’s thought Spurs will go for a high-profile appointment in the summer. Pochettino would appear to be the ideal candidate in that regard, while De Zerbi is an option that cannot be ruled out.

However, assuming Tottenham can steady the ship and resolve any issues behind the scenes ahead of next season, it could be that Ferreira does become interested in the project here in North London.

The club already know he is not an easy target by any means, but that surely won’t stop them from at least asking again in a few months.

Paul Merson tells Igor Tudor to copy one Arsenal tactic to keep Tottenham up

Paul Merson tells Igor Tudor to copy one Arsenal tactic to keep Tottenham up - Spurs Web
Description

Igor Tudor has received some advice from the other side of North London, with Paul Merson urging Tottenham to play like Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur’s next game is against Arsenal in the Premier League, and Igor Tudor will be hoping to get off to a good start.

Thomas Frank’s biggest criticism was his pragmatic approach, which Tottenham fans often met with boos as they demanded more front-footed.

With Tudor now in charge, his objective is to steady the ship at Spurs and prevent them from getting relegated.

Tottenham urged to mirror Arsenal approach under Igor Tudor

Speaking to Sky Sports, Paul Merson outlined what he expects from Igor Tudor, focusing on the urgency of results and the shift in style he believes Tottenham Hotspur must adopt.

He said, “You don’t get that much time at so-called big clubs. You have to get results.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Fans get you the sack. Very rarely does a manager get the sack, and all the fans are cheering your name. It’s panic stations now.

“They had to get someone in who was left-field. They’re coming in for 12 games, and if they keep them up, everyone would say ‘of course they were going to stay up’.

“And if they do not, then I do not know where he [Tudor] goes after this.

“But I do not see them going down. I would be shocked. They have got too many good players. They have got to get organised and keep on nicking points.

“When you come in as a new manager, you can sit ten behind the ball. You can do that against Arsenal next week and the crowd is not going to go mad.

“When you are losing week in, week out, you have to attack because you have to win a football match.

“I watch Tottenham and it is like an end-to-end match. They have got to start playing like Arsenal play – they have got to come from a base and nick a point here.

“It will be interesting what Tudor does. He likes them to work hard – that is an absolute must. That is the norm to work hard and then they will go from there.

“So they will stay up, but they have to get it right next time with the next manager.”

Results over style for Spurs in survival push

While Tudor is currently in charge, the aim is not for an attractive brand of football; it is more about steadying the ship.

The former Juventus man is known for keeping his team compact, as he often deploys a 3-4-2-1 formation. However, he does also like a high-energy, high-press within that shape.

At the moment, Spurs need to get results, with the style of play less important as they run the risk of being relegated.

Chelsea could beat Tottenham to Dusan Vlahovic after big £10.4m demand - Spurs Web
Description

A centre-forward, who is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, looks most likely to end up at their London rivals instead this summer.

After a quiet January window, reports indicate that Spurs may be set for a major spending spree in the summer.

Given their shortage of goals this term, one would expect the Lilywhites to prioritise strengthening their forward line in the summer.

Juventus star, who is out of contract in the summer, has been heavily linked with a move to N17, but one issue may complicate the North Londoners’ pursuit.

Chelsea are the favourites to beat Tottenham to Dusan Vlahovic

A few days ago, it was reported that Spurs and Chelsea are the two front-runners for Vlahovic, who is in the final few months of his deal at the Allianz Arena.

Now, a new report in TEAMtalk has revealed that the Serbian has ‘long harboured ambitions of testing himself in England’ and that desire has only grown over recent years.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be monitoring his situation alongside the Blues, with the outlet claiming that Spurs view the 26-year-old as the ‘long-term solution to lead their attack’, given his physical presence and proven finishing ability.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, it is explained that Tottenham may struggle to land Vlahovic if they do not qualify for the Champions League, which means that the West London club are ‘in the strongest position’ to land the player at this stage.

The publication says that as things stand, Stamford Bridge appears to be the Juve man’s most likely destination in the summer.

Juventus have not given up hope of holding onto Vlahovic

TEAMtalk say that talks over a renewal have stalled between the centre-forward and the Serie A giants for months.

The Old Lady proposed a reduction in Vlahovic’s current £10.4m per year salary, which the striker has been unwilling to accept.

Juve officials remain hopeful of reaching a resolution with the former Fiorentina man, but have agreed to park contract talks until the summer, leaving the door open for the player to exit on a free transfer.

Juventus join Inter Milan in race to sign ‘happy’ £22m Tottenham star Guglielmo Vicario - Spurs Web
Description

Juventus have joined Inter Milan the race for a senior Tottenham Hotspur star, who has come in for plenty of criticism this season.

Reports indicate that Spurs are eyeing an ambitious squad rebuild in the summer window, and that is arguably a necessity on the back of two poor domestic seasons.

Part of that rebuild may involve upgrading between the sticks as well, with Guglielmo Vicario coming in for plenty of criticism over the course of the season.

It has been widely reported over recent months that Inter Milan are plotting a summer move for the Tottenham number one, and it has now emerged that another Italian club have joined the race.

Juventus set sights on Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario

According to a report in Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Juventus have now joined the race for the Italy international, amidst doubts over Michele Di Gregorio’s future in Turin.

The report says that Vicario was on the Bianconeri’s wishlist in the past, and his name has now ‘resurfaced’ on their shortlist.

Juventus would jump at the chance to sign the former Empoli man if they are given a chance to do so in the summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The outlet also adds that Inter remain in the race, with Vicario’s name being ‘more than just an idea’ for the Nerazzurri as they look for a new number one.

Vicario is happy at Spurs despite poor form

Interestingly, Gazzetta say that the 29-year-old is ‘happy at Tottenham’ and is enjoying his life in London at the moment.

At the same time, they also say that Vicario would ‘jump at the chance’ to return to Italy in the summer if a decent opportunity opened up.

Tim Sherwood warns Igor Tudor he has a lose-lose situation at Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

Tim Sherwood has now questioned the upside of Igor Tudor’s role at Tottenham Hotspur as the former Juventus man aims to steady the ship in north London.

Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate for results to steady in the coming weeks following the appointment of former Juventus man Igor Tudor.

The club has made its objective clear, stating that it hopes Tudor stabilises performances, maximises the quality within the squad, and competes strongly in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Whether he will stay longer than his short-term contract, set to expire in June, remains to be seen, but the focus is clearly on the games ahead.

Tottenham survival expectations debated as Tim Sherwood delivers verdict on Igor Tudor

Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Tim Sherwood addressed the risk attached to Igor Tudor taking the Tottenham Hotspur job, outlining both the potential upside and the severe downside tied to results.

He said: “If he beats Arsenal in the first game, everything’s happy. He might even get the job. There’d be a statue of him.

“It’s going to be difficult. He has no knowledge of the Premier League, and people will say, does that matter? It doesn’t matter if you’re taking a job at the top of the league, but you’re coming in.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“What is the upside for him? If he finishes 12th, he’s getting no credit. The downside is so catastrophic, would you want your fingerprints all over Tottenham getting relegated from the Premier League?

“Thomas Frank would still be there if it wasn’t for the toxic nature of the fans, and I can totally understand the disgruntlement of the fans, because they’re not getting the results.

“I heard people say they are sleepwalking into the Championship. I think they’ll have enough, even with the injuries, to get out of it, but he will get no credit for that.

“And the downside is so great, it can only fail. He’s getting no credit for keeping Tottenham in the league.”

North London derby sets early tone for Tudor spell

Tudor’s first order of business is to take on Arsenal in the north London derby, and that match will be significant for the club.

A win in his first game in charge will no doubt be a major boost for the former Juventus man as he aims to keep Spurs in the Premier League.

The 47-year-old will now be looking to meet the first-team squad as they attempt to see out the rest of the season.

Tottenham’s Europa League prize money is dwarfed by huge Champions League offerings

Tottenham’s Europa League prize money is dwarfed by huge Champions League offerings - Spurs Web
Description

UEFA have finalised the payout each club have earned from their European journey last season, with Tottenham Hotspur’s coffers being boosted significantly after their Europa League win.

While last season was a disaster domestically for Spurs, who finished in 17th place, the Lilywhites managed to make history in Europe by beating Man United in the final in Bilbao to lift the Europa League for the third time.

It was a moment that was a long time coming for Tottenham fans, with the celebrations in North London a few days later just showing what the achievement meant to the supporters.

It was also big for the club’s bottom line as it ensured that they qualified for the Champions League and received a decent amount of prize money.

How much payout will Tottenham receive from UEFA for Europa League win?

According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, European football’s governing body has now finalised the payouts for the 2024-25 season.

Maguire reveals that UEFA have announced record payouts in total, with Tottenham set to receive €41 m (£35.6m) for winning the Europa League.

However, the figures pale in comparison to those received by clubs who made into the latter stages of the Champions League.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Maguire wrote on X: “UEFA announce record payouts from last season’s competitions. It is a case of Champions League or nowhere for the big players.

“Champions League: Arsenal €117m (semi-final), Liverpool €98m (Round of 16), Villa €84m (Quarter Final), City €76m (Round of 16). Europa League: Spurs €41m (Winners), Man Utd €36m (Finalist). Conference: Chelsea €22m (Winner).”

This shows why Spurs have prioritised Champions League qualification

There is clearly a huge discrepancy in the prize money clubs earn from the Champions League compared to the Europa League.

In fact, based on these figures shared by Maguire, Spurs are already due to earn almost double the payout from UEFA for reaching the final 16 of the Champions League compared to winning the Europa League last term.

Given the financial restrictions clubs operate in, Champions League football becomes crucial to be able to compete in the transfer market for top-tier players.

Tottenham lead race to sign Christian Pulisic amid Pochettino return rumours

Tottenham lead race to sign Christian Pulisic amid Pochettino return rumours - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have now stepped up their pursuit of a Serie A wide forward with 10 goals this season, as other Premier League rivals circle.

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled for most of this season and find themselves in 16th place with 29 points from 26 games.

Not only have wins been hard to come by, but goals have also not been free-flowing, with Spurs managing just 36 goals in that timeframe.

Of course, improving those numbers will be key if the Lilywhites are to get back to competing with some of the top sides in the division, and the signing of an in-form forward could help do just that.

Tottenham lead Christian Pulisic transfer race

AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic has managed 10 goals in all competitions this season, and it is understood that Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign the former Chelsea man.

That is according to Fichajes, who state that Spurs have already made initial contact to sign the 27-year-old.

Milan, for their part, are open to sanctioning Pulisic’s departure due to his contract situation, with the player entering the final 18 months of his deal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Other Premier League sides have shown interest, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United, but it is Tottenham who are in pole position after intensifying their efforts to complete the deal.

This is the second report in almost as many days linking Tottenham with a move for Pulisic.

Spurs must sell their project to secure Pulisic deal

Convincing Christian Pulisic will be just as important if Spurs are to secure his signature, with the fee likely to be modest given the time remaining on his current contract.

The former Chelsea man will obviously be looking to compete at the very highest level, which would include Champions League football.

However, Tottenham are ‘working around the clock’ to bring Mauricio Pochettino back to N17. Interestingly, Poch is currently Pulisic’s national manager for the men’s USA team. It remains to be seen whether that is a pure coincidence.

At the moment, Spurs are not on course to secure a spot in the Champions League next season, given that they sit 16th, with the only route being by winning the competition.

The 27-year-old is versatile enough to feature as a second striker, right winger, left winger and centre-forward, which would no doubt be of use to Tottenham.

Tottenham enter race with Man United and Juventus to sign Marcos Senesi for free - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have now entered the race for a Premier League centre-back who is set to be available for free in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur could be in the market for a centre-back in the summer window, given the speculation surrounding their current defenders.

Radu Dragusin has been linked with a move to Italy, following several reports from the winter transfer window linking the Romanian with a move to AS Roma.

Cristian Romero could also be on his way out of Tottenham, as reports claim that he is looking to feature in the Champions League in the coming seasons.

Micky van de Ven, on the other hand, has yet to put pen to paper on a new contract with Spurs, and that has also brought about interest in van de Ven from a host of clubs in Europe.

Tottenham join Marcos Senesi transfer race

TuttoJuve is now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the latest club to show interest in Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi.

The Cherries centre-back’s contract is set to expire in the summer, and should he not sign a new deal at the Vitality Stadium, he will be available on a free transfer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Senesi has been a constant in the backline of Andoni Iraola’s side, featuring 25 times in the Premier League, where he has managed four assists.

The defender, 28, would no doubt be a shrewd addition to the Spurs squad, given that he is a player familiar with Premier League football.

Spurs face competition as Juventus plan a meeting with Senesi

However, while Spurs have entered the race for Senesi, they will have to get in line, as there are several other clubs in the picture.

Manchester United are understood to have made a call in the winter window, while Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Everton are said to have shown interest this month.

Juventus, however, are the ones who have pushed themselves to the front of the queue.

The Italian side is said to be planning to meet with Senesi’s agents in the coming weeks, as they are ‘working to stay ahead’ of the competition.

Meanwhile, it is claimed that Juventus are particularly concerned about Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, as the German side is the last club to show a real interest in Senesi.

Tottenham fans receive ‘optimistic’ but ‘tough’ update on Dejan Kulusevski return - Spurs Web
Description

Sweden boss Graham Potter has now provided an update on the fitness of two Tottenham stars, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall.

Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need for their injured players to return to full fitness, as the first team squad is currently stretched beyond belief.

New boss Igor Tudor could be handed a few boosts on the fitness front if Richarlison and Pedro Porro return to action ahead of the north London derby.

However, the return dates of two other Tottenham stars, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski, remain unclear, with a fresh report earlier in the week stating that Kulusevski is set to be out for longer than expected.

Sweden boss Graham Potter has now provided an update on the injury situations of the two Spurs men ahead of Sweden’s World Cup play-off games in March.

Speaking about the availability of Kulusevski and Alexander Isak for the World Cup play-off, Potter addressed their recovery timelines in comments to Sportbladet.

He said, “It’s hard to say, there’s still time for them. They’re doing their rehabilitation well in the clubs. There’s still time.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I hope so, but they have two big injuries. It will be tough to come back in March. They have good rehab staff behind them so there’s a chance.”

Kulusevski and Isak, for their part, are understood to be pushing to be available for Sweden’s key fixtures in March.

Potter explained that both players remain determined to return in time, adding, “I have spoken to both of them. They are optimistic and are working very, very hard at their clubs to be able to play with us in March.”

Further concern over Lucas Bergvall’s return timeline

Bergvall, on the other hand, has featured for Tottenham this season and has played 26 games so far. The 20-year-old midfielder, however, suffered an ankle injury in January and has been out of action since then.

Potter also has concerns over Bergvall’s availability for the clash against Ukraine.

Addressing his situation alongside Johansson’s, he said: “It’s a bit the same as for Alex and Dejan. There’s still some time left before the match against Ukraine, and it will be tough for them, but we’re hoping for them too.”
