Why Thomas Frank should reconsider Cristian Romero’s Tottenham captaincy - Spurs Web
Description

Cristian Romero needs to sort out his behaviour immediately, or else Thomas Frank could be forced to make a decision regarding his role for the good of Tottenham Hotspur.

Whenever there is a conversation about Cristian Romero which involves anything critical, certain terms are usually given in his defence.

Mentioning that he is a World Cup winner is usually a popular go-to argument when the criticism thrown in his direction is performance related.

As the conversation shifts to Romero’s lack of discipline, some will claim his rashness is a thing of the past, but dialogue has prevailed all because of the media’s warped agenda.

However, it is time to put personal feelings aside and judge the centre back as any other Tottenham Hotspur player would be judged – without special treatment.

Cristian Romero is not performing at his usual level for Tottenham

Tottenham need a captain who is going to be one of the team’s most consistent performers, but Romero has had a number of shaky displays this season.

The Argentina international has made some fairly large errors in recent months and he was twice at fault during the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool last Sunday.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Romero was even named a ‘liability’ by members of the press, which is extremely harsh, but there should be a conversation about just how often he has a bad game.

Romero lacks the discipline a Spurs captain needs

Romero’s recent performances are actually secondary to an even greater problem, which is that he has been completely unhinged on the pitch this season. The 27-year-old appeared to have toned things down after facing criticism for his behaviour early on in his days at Spurs. However, he has no discipline at all this season.

Due to the red card Romero received against Liverpool, he is now serving his second Premier League suspension of the campaign. Worse still, Romero would serve a third ban after his return, if he receives three yellow cards in his next 15 appearances. What good is a captain who is constantly not allowed to play as a result of his poor behaviour?

Each time the defender lands himself in hot water it just seems so unnecessary. He commits too many bookable fouls and often loses his temper. A few of his yellow cards this year have been the result of arguing with the referee and these are such needless bookings.

Once these mistakes occur, Romero does himself no favours by attempting to remain out of the spotlight. Xavi Simons has apologised for his red card against Liverpool, but where is the Tottenham captain? As usual, he has gone into hiding, but do not be surprised when he is behind the microphone after his next strong performance.

Replacing Romero as Tottenham captain would be tricky

Thomas Frank would be wise to consider whether Romero is the type of player he wishes to be a role model to the younger contingency in the Tottenham first-team squad. Unless he stops being such a hot head who cannot control his emotions, appoining a new captain might just be a necessary move to help the team as a whole.

However, the other options in Frank’s leadership group are far from perfect. James Maddison is injured, Guglielmo Vicario has no leadership qualities at all and Ben Davies rarely plays. There is Micky van de Ven as well, but the 24-year-old has had some borderline head loss moments when he has worn the captain’s armband this season.

Romero has to sort himself out and a decision to replace him should be considered at this point, but Frank would have a tough time finding anyone worthy of leading the team going forwards.

Thomas Frank wanted Tottenham to sign ‘top player’ last summer, he may be available in January

Thomas Frank wanted Tottenham to sign 'top player' last summer, he may be available in January - Spurs Web
Description

A winger who Tottenham Hotspur missed out on in the summer transfer window could be in the shop window in January.

Spurs had several high-profile misses in the summer, and the ones that the fans will remember most are their failed pursuits of Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White.

However, Tottenham also tried until transfer deadline day to sign Savinho, but Man City refused to budge.

It was reported that Thomas Frank was extremely keen on adding the Brazilian winger to his squad, and he may get a chance to do that in January.

Man City are willing to sell Savinho to Tottenham in January

Over recent weeks, some sources have indicated that Spurs could try again for Savinho during the January window.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now claimed that Pep Guardiola’s men are likely to be more receptive to offers coming in for the former Girona man next month than they were in the summer.

O’Rourke told Football Insider: “I wouldn’t be surprised to see Savinho leave City in January. He has been relegated to more of a backup role because Cherki has come in and hit the ground running, and Doku and Foden have both stepped up.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Savinho is a top player, but at the moment, he’s not improving or making himself a regular there. Guardiola doesn’t see him as a starter ahead of those other players I named, so there’s every chance that if they get an offer, they could let him go.

“We know City like to have that depth in their squad, but say someone comes in with a huge offer for him, I think they would let him go. Tottenham were obviously interested during the summer and nothing came of it, but that interest is still going to be there from them and other clubs too.”

Will Spurs reconsider their interest in Savinho?

It was well documented in the summer that Frank was the man driving Tottenham’s interest in Savinho.

However, the Danish coach’s long-term future is not guaranteed at Spurs at the moment, with the Lilywhites thought to be looking for potential replacements.

Additionally, Savinho has struggled to make an impact whenever he has come on for City this term. One thus suspects that the Tottenham recruitment department may prefer other alternatives to the 21-year-old.

Description

Tottenham fans will not like hearing where Opta’s Supercomputer has predicted the Lilywhites will finish in the Premier League this season.

Thomas Frank has been giving Tottenham fans a reality check on where they have finished over the last few years in defence of his own record this term.

Reports indicate that the Spurs board are willing to stick with Frank through this difficult spell, and that they retain belief that he can turn things around.

However, Tottenham continue to slide down the Premier League table, and there is no sign of any light at the end of the tunnel at the moment.

Opta’s Supercomputer predicts where Tottenham will finish

After the loss to Nottingham Forest last week, Opta predicted that Spurs would finish in 11th place this season, and the data-analysis platform has now revised its prediction.

Following Tottenham’s 2-1 loss at home to Liverpool, Opta’s Supercomputer now predicts that Frank’s men may have to settle for a 13th-place finish.

The algorithm estimates that Spurs will finish with an expected points tally of 49.94 and gives the Lilywhites just a 1.05 per cent chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

MORE SPURS STORIES

What will Thomas Frank have to achieve at Spurs this season?

Some experts think Tottenham would have to finish in the top six for Frank to keep his job, and the Lilywhites appear a long way off doing that at the moment.

While the Spurs hierarchy is continuing to keep faith in Frank for now, one would think that they will not entertain this mediocrity if it continues to persist.

Should the North London side still find themselves in the bottom half by the end of January, it is difficult to see how the 52-year-old’s job can be safe.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have identified a Ligue 1 star as an alternative after dropping out of the race to sign Antoine Semenyo in January.

Report revealed that Spurs were ready to break the bank for Semenyo and offer him a lucrative package to choose N17 over Manchester or Liverpool.

However, it was always claimed that Tottenham were underdogs in the race to sign the Bournemouth man, who is wanted by some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano delivered the final nail in the coffin last week, revealing that Spurs had dropped out of the race to sign Semenyo.

However, it has now emerged that Tottenham made contingency plans in case they were not able to land the Ghana international.

Tottenham identify Monaco star as an alternative to Antoine Semenyo

TEAMtalk say that signing Semenyo was Tottenham’s top priority ahead of the January window. However, Spurs always knew that a deal would not be easy to do as the Bournemouth star is also wanted by Man United, Man City, and Liverpool.

As a result, the North Londoners are lining up Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche as an alternative to the 25-year-old. Akliouche, who has three goals and four assists across all competitions this term, is thought be a long-term target for the Lilywhites.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is revealed that Tottenham have been keeping track of the Frenchman’s performances throughout this calendar year and have been very impressed by his progress.

How difficult would a deal for Maghnes Akliouche be for Spurs?

TEAMtalk say that the Monaco man will be cheaper than Semenyo, with the Ligue 1 club valuing the youngster at around £40m.

However, it is revealed that PSG are also fans of Akliouche, and Tottenham are aware that they may face competition for the player from the Parisians.

Further, the outlet points out that Spurs’ preference is to sign a left-winger, while Akliouche has played his best football for Monaco down the right.

Premier League duo join five-horse race to sign Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson - Spurs Web
Description

Five Premier League clubs are now racing to sign Brennan Johnson in January as Tottenham hope for a transfer bidding war.

Brennan Johnson’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is uncertain, given the lack of game time he has received under Thomas Frank this season.

The Wales international was a significant part of Ange Postecoglou’s side last term, grabbing 18 goals in all competitions, including his pivotal toe poke in the Europa League final in Bilbao, Spain.

This season, Johnson has scored four times, but his appearances and game time have been significantly reduced, with his latest appearance coming Spurs’ game against Liverpool, where he came off the bench.

Brentford and Ipswich Town join race for Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson

Crystal Palace are one of the sides to have been reported to be considering a move for Brennan Johnson this January, but competition for the winger is beginning to increase.

Aston Villa and Bournemouth are said to be ready to battle Palace so sign Johnson in January.

According to Football Insider, two other English sides are also now looking to join the race for the 24-year-old as they look to bolster their respective attacking options.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is understood that Brentford and Ipswich Town have joined the race to sign Brennan Johnson in January. While Crystal Palace are looking to take the wide forward out permanently, Brentford and Ipswich are instead considering a loan deal.

Bournemouth join race for Johnson to replace Antoine Semenyo

Thomas Frank has previously stated that he would love to keep Brennan Johnson in his side, but if the Wales international does not see an increase in game time, he might be tempted to look elsewhere.

It was also relayed that Bournemouth are another side reported to be showing interest in Johnson, with the Cherries claimed to have him as a potential alternative to Antoine Semenyo.

Description

A new report has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur could accept a lower fee for Brennan Johnson than previously reported.

Many would have expected the Wales international to kick on this term on the back of an 18-goal season in 2024-25.

That was particularly the case since Thomas Frank tried to take Johnson to Brentford in the past, and it was assumed that the 24-year-old would suit the Dane’s system to a tee.

Instead, the former Nottingham Forest man has made just six Premier League starts this term, and his future at N17 is in major doubt.

It emerged last week that Crystal Palace are eyeing a January move for Johnson, who is seen as dispensable by the Lilywhites.

How much do Crystal Palace have to pay for Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson?

Earlier this week, TEAMtalk asserted that Spurs valued Johnson at £50m, which is slightly more than what they paid for him two-and-a-half years ago.

However, a new report in News Shopper has claimed that the winger could be allowed to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a discounted price.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The outlet confirms that the Eagles are keen to take the winger to Selhurst Park next month, with the club urgently wanting to bring an attacker through the door.

It is asserted that Spurs would be willing to let Johnson go to the South London club for just £35m.

Palace are expected to face competition for Johnson

Oliver Glasner’s side are not the only club eyeing a January deal for Tottenham’s pacy attacker.

It was claimed by journalist Dean Jones a couple of days ago that Aston Villa and Bournemouth are ready to battle Palace for Johnson’s signature.

Spurs will be hoping that a bidding war ensues between these clubs and pushes the winger’s price up.

Why Tottenham stopped ‘pushing aggressively’ for £65m Antoine Semenyo transfer - Spurs Web
Description

It has been revealed why Tottenham dropped out of the race to sign Antoine Semenyo in January, despite desperately wanting the winger.

Last week, it was reported that Spurs were aggressively pursuing Semenyo and were not ready to give up on the winger without a fight.

This was despite reports suggesting that Tottenham faced an uphill battle to land the Bournemouth star, who is wanted by some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

We even heard reports that Spurs were willing to shatter their wage structure to land the Ghana international.

Unfortunately, Fabrizio Romano then delivered the bad news that Tottenham Hotspur had pulled out of the race for Semenyo.

Tottenham desribed as the least likely destination for Antoine Semenyo

TEAMtalk have revealed that the 25-year-old is emerging as the most in-demand player in January, with Man United, Spurs, Liverpool and Man City all willing to pay his £65m release clause.

However, it is explained that Semenyo will make the final decision on his future, and it was his narrowing down of those options that likely led to Tottenham dropping out of the race.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The winger prefers a move to either Man City or Liverpool, who have emerged as the two clear frontrunners for the player ahead of the January window.

In fact, out of the four clubs, Tottenham were considered to be ‘the least likely option’, which is why Thomas Frank and co have been forced to move on to other targets.

Man City seem to be the favourites to sign Semenyo

TEAMtalk further reveal that City are ‘making real strides’ in their pursuit of the Ghanaian over the last few days.

The Manchester club have already held discussions with Semenyo’s representatives and see him as someone who can lighten the goalscoring burden on Erling Haaland.

Pep Guardiola’s men are also having conversations with Bournemouth, who have been made aware that their star man is speaking to City.

Interesting twist emerges in Antoine Semenyo saga, and Tottenham remain involved - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur may be out of the race to sign Antoine Semenyo in January, but they remain a key part of the transfer saga.

Spurs have long been interested in signing Antoine Semenyo, who is set to be available for £65 million in the middle of January, but their pursuit of the attacker appears to have reached an end.

Unfortunately for the North London club, they were handed a major blow on 19 December when Fabrizio Romano revealed that Tottenham Hotspur had pulled out of the race for Semenyo.

It looks like the Bournemouth winger will join one of Man City, Man United, or Liverpool instead in January.

Tottenham could sell Brennan Johnson in January

Brennan Johnson is a man who etched his name into Tottenham Hotspur folklore following that famous goal in the Europa League final in Bilbao, Spain, but his tenure in North London could soon be drawing to a close.

Reports have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are open to selling Johnson during the winter window, despite his contributions since arriving at the club.

The Wales international, who registered 25 goal contributions in all competitions last season, has not been short of suitors as several Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in securing his signature.

Bournemouth target Johnson as direct Antoine Semenyo replacement

Crystal Palace have been named as a potential destination for Brennan Johnson this January, but fresh reports from TeamTalk have identified Bournemouth as a side equally keen on the Welshman.

According to the publication, it is believed that Bournemouth are certain that Antoine Semenyo will depart from the Vitality Stadium in January, which has necessitated a search for a high-quality replacement.

As such, Brennan Johnson has emerged as a primary option to serve as a direct replacement for the Ghana international, though he is one of around half-a-dozen options the Cherries are actively working on, with Ipswich’s Jaden Philogene another wide option for Iraola’s side.

Description

There has been another twist in the race for Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson ahead of the January transfer window.

The winger, who finished as Spurs’ top scorer last season, has struggled to get regular game time this term, having started just six league games under Thomas Frank so far.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Crystal Palace are eyeing a January deal for Johnson in an effort to cover for the absence of Ismaila Sarr, who is away at AFCON with Senegal.

It was subsequently suggested that Spurs are increasingly tempted to cash in on Johnson as the Eagles make advances towards the 24-year-old, but there has now been another twist in the pacy wide-man’s future.

Crystal Palace identify a cheaper alternative to Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson

A new report from TEAMtalk has suggested that Palace may cool their interest in the Spurs man and target a Man City youngster instead.

The outlet claims that Oscar Bobb’s future at the Etihad Stadium is uncertain after he dropped down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order, and City are willing to cash in on him.

This has attracted the attention of the Eagles, who view Bobb as a cheaper alternative to Johnson in January.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is asserted that while Tottenham Hotspur will demand £40m for the former Nottingham Forest man, City are willing to sell their academy graduate for just £25m.

Two other Premier League clubs want to sign Johnson

Palace are not the only Premier League club showing an interest in the man who scored the winning goal in last season’s Europa League final.

According to a recent update by journalist Dean Jones, Bournemouth and Aston Villa are also considering a move for Johnson in January.

Tottenham may have to sign target’s brother in order to beat Man United to £52m deal

Tottenham may have to sign target’s brother in order to beat Man United to £52m deal - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for a highly-rated Bundesliga starlet, but they may have to sign his brother too.

While Tottenham continue to push to land Antoine Semenyo, it appears that the North London club are also eyeing other alternative wingers, given the growing competition for the Ghana international.

One of those is a 19-year-old starlet, who has been one of the most electric attackers so far this season in the Bundesliga.

It was first reported by Sport Bild earlier this week that Tottenham and Man United are plotting a move for FC Koln’s Said El Mala, who has nine goal contributions in 14 league games this term.

Barcelona also want to beat Tottenham to Said El Mala, who is said to be worth around £52m.

Tottenham target Said El Mala wants to play with his brother

An interesting report from Sky Germany has now warned Spurs that they may have to sign the teenager’s older brother, Malek, too, who is in Koln’s reserve side.

The report says that Said and Malek have played together since a young age and that the 19-year-old had previously indicated that he will not go anywhere without his brother.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In fact, it is revealed that Borussia Dortmund were keen on signing Said El Mala in 2024, but the player informed the German club that he wanted to continue playing with his brother.

Said reportedly said at the time about Dortmund’s unwillingness to sign his brother: “That was the end of it for me.”

Why this is unlikely to be relevant in Spurs’ pursuit of Said El Mala

One can understand why Said would have told Dortmund what he did 18 months or two years ago, as both he and his older brother were in the academy at the time.

However, Said has now become one of the most talked-about players in the Bundesliga and has even been called up to the German squad.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Malek is still waiting for his senior debut for Koln, and it is unrealistic to expect that any big clubs would come in for him.
