Description

Tottenham are expected to be active once the winter transfer window opens, and the club’s three-man winger shortlist has been revealed.

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to show ambition in the winter transfer window as Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his squad.

The Tottenham boss has already alluded to a busy period in the market during a recent press conference, openly stating that the club are looking to bring in new players.

That stance comes on the back of reports suggesting that the Lewis family are prepared to operate differently financially, with money available to be spent in January, giving Frank greater scope to act decisively if the right opportunities present themselves.

Tottenham winger shortlist takes shape ahead of January window

It has been claimed that Tottenham are looking to strengthen several key areas of the squad, with the forward line emerging as one of the priorities as Spurs assess their options ahead of the January transfer window.

TeamTalk has now revealed three of the names believed to be on Spurs’ radar, reporting that Tottenham are being kept informed on Ademola Lookman’s situation as January approaches.

Spurs did try to sign the Nigerian international on deadline day last summer window, but no deal was concluded.

MORE SPURS STORIES

At present, however, it is reported that interest from Tottenham is not as strong, with Turkish sides heavily linked to Lookman. The Nigerian, though, is just one of two wide options on Spurs’ radar.

TeamTalk further claims that more ambitious targets, such as Rodrygo and Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz, are viewed as dream options on a shortlist drawn up over recent weeks.

Brennan Johnson’s sale could fund Rodrygo purchase

Rodrygo was also on Tottenham’s radar last summer, but he remained at Real Madrid, although game time has been harder to come by for the Brazil international this season.

The Real Madrid forward would represent a major upgrade for a Spurs attack that could yet lose a key piece, with Brennan Johnson attracting interest from Crystal Palace as the club monitors his situation closely.

Tottenham supporters appear split on the idea, with some feeling the time may be right to cash in on the winger if it helps fund a marquee arrival, while others remain unconvinced about sanctioning an exit.

Tottenham Hotspur now appear to hold a notable advantage over Newcastle United in the race for a highly-rated Club Brugge midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur have long been linked with a move for Aleksandar Stankovic, with interest dating back to the summer of 2024.

The 20-year-old’s standout performances for Club Brugge in Belgium have continued to catch the eye of Spurs, who have retained a firm interest in the midfielder as his influence has grown.

Tottenham, however, are not alone in their pursuit of Stankovic, with Newcastle United and Inter Milan also keen on the Club Brugge man as attention around his future intensifies.

Calciomercato have now shared an update on Tottenham’s latest efforts to sign Stankovic, acknowledging Spurs’ long-term interest before stating that Fabio Paratici is a strong admirer of the midfielder.

It is believed that the Tottenham sporting director is leading the club’s pursuit, with Spurs having already made contact to enquire about Stankovic and explore the conditions of a potential deal.

Tottenham will, however, face competition from elsewhere, with Inter Milan viewed as a significant threat due to their €23 million (£19.7 million) buy-back clause, which gives them a degree of control over the situation.

Why Spurs may hold the edge over Newcastle United

Spurs are also thought to have an advantage over rival clubs thanks to their financial strength as a Premier League side, a factor that could yet cause Inter to hesitate.

That said, Tottenham’s chances hinge on whether Inter decide to activate the buy-back clause and then make Stankovic available on the market.

Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic has now spoken openly about where his heart lies and how he sees the months ahead unfolding amidst interest from clubs in Europe.

Luka Vuskovic has been catching the eye of several clubs across Europe, with RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Hamburg all keen on securing the centre-back as he continues to develop away from north London.

Tottenham, on the other hand, remain firm in their resolve not to allow the young talent to drift away from north London, with internal discussions already taking place around how best to keep him tied to the club.

Talk of a new contract for Vuskovic has already surfaced as one possible tactic to keep interested clubs at arm’s length, while a January recall from his loan spell has also been flagged as an option should circumstances demand it.

Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic addresses loan future and January stance

Speaking to Hamburger Abendblatt in an interview, Luka Vuskovic was asked about who manages his career and the role Tottenham has played in shaping his path so far.

The teenager reflected positively on the decisions he has made so far, saying: “Of course, I have an agent,” he said.

“Tottenham also decide which club is best for my development. Every step so far has been perfect for me. At Radom, I was guaranteed playing time if I trained well.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Poland is a physically strong league. In Belgium, the intensity and quality were even higher. So, I am taking it one step at a time.”

It is believed that Tottenham have a clause in Vuskovic’s loan deal that allows them to cut short his loan stay in January.

While Thomas Frank’s side can exercise that option if injuries strike, the Croatia international insists his focus remains on seeing out the season with Hamburg.

“I have not discussed that [returning in January] with Tottenham. My focus is on HSV. I expect to be able to stay here until the end of the season. HSV is a great club. I am very happy here,” Vuskovic explained.

The Tottenham defender’s brother, Mario, is also on the books at Hamburg SV, although he is currently serving a long-term ban that runs until the end of next year.

A few months ago, Vuskovic openly spoke about his desire to extend his stay at Hamburg beyond this season to play alongside his brother, and that stance has now been reiterated as he looks ahead.

“It is my dream to play alongside my brother at HSV. I would give everything for that. Tottenham knows that too. But I am their player and I am under contract there.

“In football, you never know what will happen in the coming months. We will decide at the right time,” he added.

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Pedro Porro has now sent a message to the Spurs away fans after his side fell to a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles this season were brought to the fore once more when they faced Nottingham Forest on Sunday in the Premier League.

Spurs have struggled in recent weeks, with victories hard to come by, although back-to-back wins in their previous two outings had restored a small dose of optimism around N17 and briefly suggested the tide might finally be turning.

However, against Forest, it was men against boys at the City Ground as individual errors, a lack of incision in possession and a worrying absence of control saw Tottenham slump to their sixth league defeat of the campaign.

Pedro Porro admits Tottenham were poor

Speaking in the immediate aftermath of the loss, Tottenham defender Pedro Porro did not shy away from the mood inside the camp, choosing instead to focus on the supporters and what he felt they had been put through on the road.

Porro admitted the performance of the Spurs players fell well short of the required standard, while also stressing the relentless nature of the Premier League and the fine margins Spurs continue to struggle with domestically, despite flashes of form elsewhere.

“The away fans do not deserve this. Today this was a bad game from us. Now we are focusing on the next game,” Porro told Sky Sports.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Every game is difficult in the Premier League.

“We can play on Tuesday and win in the Champions League but in the Premier League it is different. Maybe more intensity, I do not know. But I feel especially sorry for the fans. The fans do not deserve this today.”

Spurs’ confidence tested ahead of Liverpool clash

Tottenham fans will be scratching their heads after watching their side capitulate to a three-nil defeat, particularly after many had begun to feel quietly positive about the club’s next three outings following recent results.

Many Spurs supporters had predicted their side would manage a few wins across this run, yet defeat at Forest has punctured that belief, with confidence inevitably low heading into two far sterner tests.

Thomas Frank delivers scathing verdict on Tottenham losing to Nottingham Forest

Thomas Frank delivers scathing verdict on Tottenham losing to Nottingham Forest - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has now slammed his Tottenham Hotspur side after a hugely disappointing and ‘annoying’ display at the City Ground Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur never found any real rhythm against Nottingham Forest, a side that has now gone three Premier League games without defeat against Spurs.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest outfit completed a league double over Tottenham last season and, with this latest result, Sean Dyche’s men have now made it three straight league victories in a row over Spurs.

It was a shambolic display littered with individual errors, a performance that stopped Tottenham from building on their back-to-back wins in all competitions and instead dragged them back into old habits that Thomas Frank has been trying to eradicate since arriving in north London.

Thomas Frank was not happy with the performance

Speaking after the final whistle, the Tottenham head coach did not attempt to sugar-coat what he had just witnessed, instead laying bare his frustration with both the collective performance and the basic errors that undermined his side from the opening exchanges.

Frank made it clear that the manner of the defeat annoyed him just as much as the scoreline, pointing to a disjointed first half, a lack of bite in duels and an inability to retain possession when Tottenham finally did win the ball back.

“It was hugely disappointing. It is burning, annoying. That was a bad performance. Especially first half, overall we looked disjointed. We did not win enough duels.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“And then we could not hit each other, it seems like we gave the ball away every time we won it back,” Frank told Sky Sports.

“Of course the first two goals are two mistakes, that happens. We need to work to be more consistent. It is two steps forward and a step back today.

“That is down to individuals. We are in it together, we win together and lose together. It is hugely irritating that we perform like this today. Simple passing, I think we lose the ball 20 times, simple passes.”

Frank opens up on Vicario and Gray error

The opener perfectly encapsulated Tottenham’s problems, with Guglielmo Vicario and Archie Gray caught trying to play out from the back, only for the young midfielder to be dispossessed after taking an extra touch following a routine pass from his goalkeeper.

Frank was asked specifically about that decision to persist with building from deep despite the obvious risk, and while he defended the principle, he was honest about the execution.

On the moment that led to Forest’s first goal, Frank added, “It is a clear one, you see it in the Premier League every week, Serie A, La Liga all over the world.

“In, bounce it out with your first touch. On paper, black and white we lost 3-0 here. The better team won today. When things are going against us we need to keep doing the right thing and keep our cool heads.”

Five things we learned from Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat away at Nottingham Forest

Five things we learned from Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat away at Nottingham Forest - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur failed to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League after they fell to a disappointing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest.

Let’s take a look at the three things we learned from the game:

Guglielmo Vicario must be replaced

It is absolutely devastating when a team loses games, but losing a football match because of individual error stings a lot more.

That was the story for Tottenham Hotspur today, as errors were ultimately Spurs’ downfall and, as has been the case for most of his Tottenham career, Guglielmo Vicario was at the crime scene.

In this league fixture, he was responsible for two of Nottingham Forest’s goals, with the Italian goalkeeper having a clear picture of his surroundings yet still opting to play a dangerous pass into Archie Gray, who was quickly pressed and dispossessed, leading directly to Forest’s opener.

The second goal was another costly moment, as Vicario completely lost his bearings when dealing with a cross from Callum Hudson-Odoi, allowing the ball to find its way into the Spurs’ net far too easily.

It is the basics he seems to get wrong at different moments throughout the course of a season. There has been talk of interest from Inter Milan in Vicario, alongside rumours that Spurs are considering a new goalkeeper.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The 29-year-old simply is not good enough for this level, given the amateurish mistakes he makes. Perhaps it is time to move him on or, at the very least, give Kinsky a proper run.

Thomas Frank gets Tottenham midfield balance wrong

Tottenham were outplayed, and if you were a stranger watching this game, you would think it was Spurs who were fighting to stay up in the division.

At this rate, if things do not change quickly, they could find themselves dragged into exactly that sort of conversation, with Nottingham Forest outplaying and outclassing Tottenham in every department, especially in midfield, where the game was effectively decided.

Thomas Frank definitely got his selection wrong in that area, as neither Simons, Archie Gray, nor Rodrigo Bentancur could cope with the physicality, aggression and intensity of the Forest midfielders, who dominated the central zones from start to finish.

If you cannot control the midfield, you struggle to win football matches, and that was the story for Tottenham this afternoon, plain and simple.

Mohammed Kudus had his worst game yet in a Tottenham shirt

Spurs’ attack was absolutely blunt and toothless, and perhaps that was because one of the main creative outlets on the pitch endured a miserable afternoon.

Mohammed Kudus was poor and struggled to have any real impact on the game, with his decision-making shambolic, his dribbling lacking sharpness and his delivery from corners well below the required standard, making it a genuinely tough watch.

The winger needs to learn when to release the ball, as he has a habit of holding onto it for too long, which only makes life easier for opposition defenders who are more than happy to crowd him out.

Pressure mounts on Thomas Frank with Liverpool next for Spurs

Tottenham’s form this season is not too dissimilar from last term, where a handful of good performances raised hopes before a damaging run quickly followed.

That pattern is already playing out again, as Frank’s side looked to have turned a corner with back-to-back wins, only for inconsistency and glaring structural problems to resurface almost immediately.

The pressure is now firmly on the Dane, and with Liverpool up next, the task could hardly be tougher, as Arne Slot’s side have had their hiccups this season but appear to have found their rhythm, which is worrying news for Tottenham, given that another defeat next weekend will only intensify the scrutiny.

Lack of creativity is a huge concern

The forwards were poor, with Muani looking like he was up against men and Richarlison struggling similarly, and when attackers barely get a sniff, it becomes clear that enough chances simply are not being created.

It would be easy to point the finger solely at the players on the pitch, but Spurs’ problems go beyond personnel, with the manager not getting it right in terms of formations and combinations.

Today, there was no space for Tottenham to operate between the lines, yet Sean Dyche’s men were able to carve out chances from a variety of situations, highlighting the contrast in organisation and clarity.

Frank needs to solve this creativity issue quickly because Spurs cannot rely on set pieces, and with just one shot on target across the entire game, the substitutions only deepened the frustration, as Palhinha and Ben Davies were introduced when the side was already two goals down.

How are you meant to create chances with Palhinha and Davies?

Description

The whistle has blown for full-time at the City Ground, and it’s time for our Spurs player ratings vs Nottingham Forest.

Thomas Frank’s side were once again short of ideas in attack and mistakes in defence gifted Forest an easy 3-0 victory.

Tottenham full-time player ratings vs Nottingham Forest

Guglielmo Vicario – A first-half mistake from the Tottenham shot-stopper was quickly followed by another, as the goalkeeper completely lost his bearings when dealing with a Callum Hudson-Odoi cross. A damaging afternoon. 2.

Pedro Porro – The Spanish full-back was nowhere to be seen as Hudson-Odoi twisted Rodrigo Bentancur inside out on Spurs’ right before crossing directly into the Tottenham net. Had Porro been in position, Spurs might have been able to stop the danger at source. 3.

Cristian Romero – His aggressive, front-foot defending did little to prevent Forest from finding the net, with Spurs largely the architects of their own downfall in both halves. 4.

Micky Van de Ven – Came to Tottenham’s rescue when Morgan Gibbs-White pounced on Xavi Simons’ loose pass, and also looked to drive his team forward with his carrying from deep. However, there was little he could do to prevent either goal. 4.

Djed Spence – Held his ground well against Omari Hutchinson in the first half and looked keen to get forward whenever Spurs attacked. However, being a right-footer on the left flank seriously hindered Tottenham’s attacking play, particularly with Randal Kolo Muani drifting inside. He was later replaced by Ben Davies. 4.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Rodrigo Bentancur – His first-half bite and willingness to work hard out of possession did little to protect the Tottenham back line. He was given an extra fifteen minutes after the restart before being replaced by Lucas Bergvall. 4.

Archie Gray – A poor outing for the teenager, whose first-half mistake proved costly when Sangare pressed high and forced an error as Spurs attempted to play out from the back. He did have a good chance to level the score before the break, but the Forest goalkeeper was equal to it. Replaced just after the hour mark by Joao Palhinha. 4.

Xavi Simons – A disappointing display from the Dutchman, who had looked lively in his previous two starts. On this occasion, he was careless in possession throughout, regularly misplacing passes and preventing Spurs from building any real pressure on Forest’s back line. 3.

Mohammed Kudus – Too often slowed attacks with excessive touches, allowing Forest to recover and crowd him out. His crossing was poor, his dribbling ineffective, and it summed up a flat attacking performance. his worst since joining the club. 3.

Richarlison – No effort on target, little link-up play and unable to win aerial duels. Tottenham’s attack looked toothless, and his performance reflected that. 3.

Randal Kolo Muani – The Frenchman was as ineffective as the rest of Spurs’ forward line. He had a few moments running at the Forest defence, but too often held on to the ball for too long, making it easy for the hosts to recover. 3.

Substitutes

Lucas Bergvall – Tottenham needed more invention in the final third and he was introduced for Bentancur. The Swede saw plenty of the ball in midfield, but created very little. 5.

Joao Palhinha – Replaced Archie Gray after a difficult afternoon. The Portuguese slotted straight into the holding role, but was on the pitch when Forest’s third goal arrived from distance. 5.

Ben Davies – Introduced as Spurs chased a goal, with Frank replacing Spence. The Welshman offered little going forward. 5.

Brennan Johnson – Finally came on against his former club in place of Kudus, but it was far too late, with the game already beyond Spurs at 3–0. N/A.

The whistle has blown for half-time at the City Ground Stadium, and it’s time for our Spurs player ratings vs Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Tottenham trail 1-0 at the break, following a horrible mistake from both Guglielmo Vicario and Archie Gray gifted the home side the lead.

Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Nottingham Forest

Guglielmo Vicario – The Tottenham number one was called into action early, making a save inside the opening five minutes following Forest’s fast start. 6.

Pedro Porro – The full-back is operating in a hybrid role, frequently drifting into midfield to give Tottenham extra numbers in central areas. He is also willing to offer width by overlapping Mohammed Kudus. However, he has had little to do defensively with Forest attacking down Tottenham’s left. 6.

Cristian Romero – The Argentine has approached this game with real bite, with Thomas Frank holding a notably high defensive line against Forest. Romero has been keen to get tight to Igor Jesus and put in a series of crunching tackles, refusing to allow any passengers around him. 7.

Micky Van de Ven – Reacted sharply to bail out Xavi Simons after a loose pass in the opening forty-five minutes, when Morgan Gibbs-White intercepted and threatened to run through on goal. Van de Ven showed his recovery pace and awareness to rescue his international team-mate. 7.

Djed Spence – Forest’s best chance of the game came down Spence’s side, with Dyche’s team working the ball into a dangerous area and delivering a cross that Sangare met, only for the post to deny him. Omari Hutchinson has tried to cause Spence problems, but the full-back has largely stood up to the challenge. 6.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Rodrigo Bentacur – Has looked sharp in the middle of the park, constantly eager to stick a foot in to make a tackle or intercept the ball. 7.

Archie Gray – Produced a strong block when Hutchinson picked up the second ball from a corner and looked to flash it across the goal. However, the teenager was caught in possession while Tottenham attempted to build from the back, with Forest pressing high and eventually scoring from his mistake. He almost made amends when a loose ball fell to him in the box and he struck it cleanly, but the effort was saved. 4.

Xavi Simons – The Dutchman has been given licence to roam, with Tottenham clearly trying to get him on the ball more often. He has looked lively, but has also been untidy with his passing and first touch at times. 5.

Mohammed Kudus – Not one of his better displays. He has rarely been able to run at the Forest defence and, when he has, he has tended to run into trouble. 5.

Richarlison – Has barely been involved, losing the physical battle with Milenkovic and Murillo. Spurs have gone long too often, but it is a clear mismatch, with the Brazilian unable to compete with Forest’s centre-backs. 5.

The Tottenham Hotspur starting line-up for the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest has been announced.

Following their 2-0 win over Brentford last weekend, Tottenham are looking to win consecutive league games for the first time since the season began in August, when they beat Burnley and Manchester City in their opening two matches of the campaign

The North Londoners come into the game on a high following Tottenham’s 3-0 victory against Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Forest were also in European action in midweek, when they left it late to beat Utrecht 2-1 in the Europa Conference League.

Thomas Frank’s team selection vs Forest is announced

Destiny Udogie, Dominic Solanke, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are still among the Tottenham players ruled out injured.

Brennan Johnson missed the win against Slavia Prague with an injury, but was always determined to return to the Tottenham first-team squad to face his former side.

MORE SPURS STORIES

There was no opportunity for Spurs fans to have a reunion with former boss Ange Postecoglou, after the Australian’s tenure at Forest was short-lived.

This is the Tottenham team which takes to the field at the City Ground this afternoon:

Tottenham: Vicario, Porro, Romero (C), van de Ven, Spence, Bentancur, Gray, Kudus, Xavi, Kolo Muani, Richarlison

Subs: Kinsky, Danso, Davies, Bergvall, Palhinha, Sarr, Tel, Johnson, Odobert

Nottingham Forest: Victor, Savona, Milenković, Murillo, Williams, Sangaré, Anderson, Hutchinson, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi, Igor Jesus

Subs: Gunn, Morato, Zinchenko, Abbott, Luiz, McAtee, Ndoye, Kalimuendo, Bakwa

Forest have won two of the last three matches between the two sides, including a 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in April.

Spurs will certainly be keen to continue their upturn in form once again today, with tough matches coming up against Liverpool and Crystal Palace.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are now involved in a transfer tussle with two other Premier League clubs for a top young talent in the Dutch league.

Teams are constantly scanning the horizon for the next elite talent, often striking early with academy-focused deals or carefully judged punts that can later feed into the first team.

A few summers ago, Tottenham Hotspur leaned heavily into that approach, dipping into the youngster market and securing two highly rated prospects in Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.

That pathway remains active, with several talents progressing through the ranks, including Luca Williams-Barnett and Mikey Moore, reinforcing the sense that Spurs are keen to stay competitive in the race for elite young profiles.

Tottenham and Chelsea track Jadiel Pereira da Gama as interest grows

TeamTalk is now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Jadiel Pereira da Gama of PEC Zwolle, a name that is beginning to gain traction quickly across recruitment departments.

The 15-year-old defensive midfielder is already featuring in first-team football, an unusual marker at that age and one that has heightened his reputation as a standout talent within his age group.

Tottenham, however, are not alone in monitoring his progress, with Chelsea and Manchester City also reported to be leading the chase for Pereira da Gama, placing Spurs firmly in a competitive three-way tussle for the Dutch youngster.

Spurs midfield planning points towards future succession

Spurs currently have Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha operating as defensive midfield options, but their respective profiles mean long-term succession planning is inevitable rather than optional.

Palhinha, who is 30, is not a long-term solution at the base of midfield, and the presence of a younger player learning alongside him could allow Tottenham to transition smoothly when the time comes.
