Description

Dutch journalist Suleyman Ozturk has explained why Tottenham Hotspur is the ideal environment for Xavi Simons, backing the attacking midfielder to evolve into a ‘sensation’ under the watchful eyes of Thomas Frank.

Tottenham fans are very excited with their early glimpses of Xavi Simons, who has seemingly gelled well since arriving from RB Leipzig in the final days of the transfer window.

While the 22-year-old was not at his best in his home debut against Villarreal, Thomas Frank believes that it is down to Spurs players still learning about Xavi’s strengths and weaknesses.

The Dane is confident that we will see the best of the Netherlands international once he gets used to playing alongside the likes of Djed Spence, and one prominent Dutch journalist agrees.

Journalist reveals what he has noticed about Xavi Simons at Tottenham

Journalist Suleyman Ozturk has said that there are already changes visible in Simons’ game at Spurs, with the 22-year-old now moving the ball forward quickly.

He is convinced that the former Leipzig man will evolve into a top player at N17 and combine well with the other attacking options that Tottenham have at their disposal.

Ozturk told Voetbal International: “I heard Tottenham’s coach give a whole spiel about Simons, saying that he can actually play on the left wing. And that’s where he plays now, and you can see that when he gets the ball, there’s a shift in his mind, and he moves on, for example, to Richarlison.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“There’s a lot of creativity there, and I think that once that comes out in a few weeks, he’s going to be a sensation at Tottenham. He should enjoy that, because it means he’s taking the next step. And he has a number of players at Tottenham with whom he can combine well.”

Spurs deemed the perfect environment for Xavi

Two weeks ago, Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman said that a move to Tottenham is a ‘wonderful’ step for Xavi Simons.

Ozturk fully agrees, insisting that it is the right kind of club for the attacker to thrive since the pressure is not as big as it is in clubs such as Liverpool or Man City.

The journalist added about Xavi’s move to N17: “I think he really has a great environment now with Tottenham. A team where you don’t have to finish first or second, but can finish third or fourth. And a manager who is very human.

“And that’s a combination. As a coach, you sometimes have to be able to deal with that. And I think he’s a coach who can do that well, so I think he’s really in the right place. And that Xavi Simons will make rapid progress.

Tottenham tried to squeeze £20m out of AC Milan this summer, but to no avail - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur offered AC Milan the chance to sign a £20m-rated player this summer, but the Rossoneri decided not to pursue the deal.

It is public knowledge by now that Yves Bissouma’s proposed move to Fenerbahce and Galatasaray fell through due to his injury.

However, those were not the only two clubs that explored a move for the Tottenham man this summer. The Spurs midfielder was also rumoured to be on the radar of Everton.

Additionally, Juventus also explored a move for Bissouma, but chose against signing him. It turns out, they were not the only Italian club to consider swooping for the 28-year-old.

Reports claimed that Tottenham wanted around £20m to sell Bissouma in the summer.

AC Milan thought about signing Yves Bissouma from Tottenham

The Rossoneri overhauled their midfield this summer, with Tijjani Reijnders and Yunus Musah exiting the club while Luka Modric, Ardon Jashari, Samuele Ricci and Adrien Rabiot arrived through the door.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto (via MilanPress), Bissouma was also offered to the Serie A giants earlier this summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Moretto says that Milan carefully evaluated the option of signing the former Brighton man but decided to prioritise the signing of Jashari instead.

Bissouma looks set to warm the bench until January

Bissouma has less than twelve months left on his current contract, and one would thus expect Tottenham to cash in on him in the January window.

Thomas Frank has said that Bissouma is part of his plans, but the 28-year-old is unlikely to get a look-in at Spurs over the next few months.

Tottenham have four Premier League fixtures rescheduled in the space of just 28 days - Spurs Web
Description

The new dates and times for all four of Tottenham’s Premier League fixtures for the Month of November are now out.

Spurs have made a superb start to their Premier League season, having won three out of their four matches, conceding just one in the process.

The defeat at home against Bournemouth is the only black mark in what has been a nearly flawless start, but things will get harder for Thomas Frank’s men over the weeks and months ahead.

Even though the Lilywhites have a perfect away record so far, some pundits expect Brighton to get the better of Spurs on Saturday.

The real challenge for the Lilywhites starts in a couple of weeks, with Tottenham facing a month of death from mid-October to mid-November.

Thomas Frank’s men face Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal within a space of a few weeks, making November a pivotal month for the Lilywhites.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The dates and times for some of those fixtures, including Spurs’ away trip to the Emirates, have been rearranged. Here is the new schedule for the club’s November fixtures:

The next two months are an acid test for Spurs’ aspirations

As soon as he walked through the door, Thomas Frank declared he wanted Tottenham to be competitive in all four competitions.

While he will be delighted with the start the Lilywhites have made, the true test will come over the next two months.

Thomas Frank speaks on the left-back battle between Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence at Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has opened up about his full-back options at Tottenham, with the manager stressing that he is fortunate to have strong depth with Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown signs of progress this season, yet there are still areas that need refining if the team is to truly push on.

Several new arrivals have joined the club and are still building on-pitch chemistry with their teammates, which has had a knock-on effect on the fluidity of Tottenham’s attacking play.

One particular area that remains under the spotlight is the left-hand side, where Xavi Simons and Djed Spence are still working on building an understanding and forging a partnership that can bring balance to the Spurs’ attack.

Thomas Frank praises Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence at Tottenham

Thomas Frank is not relying solely on Djed Spence on the left flank, as the return to fitness of Destiny Udogie now provides him with another natural option.

Udogie, being left-footed, fits the role more naturally since he can deliver crosses with his stronger foot when overlapping Xavi Simons, giving Tottenham a more traditional balance on that side of the pitch.

Speaking to the club’s official channels, Frank has now underlined the strength in depth he has in that position and explained the qualities that both players offer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He said: “I am privileged to have four full-backs. They are performing at a very high level. Destiny offers his left foot as a left back so that is obviously more natural for him.

“Him and Djed are a bit similar, having that physicality and ability to go at all times. Destiny’s left foot is important but Djed with his right is equally important.”

Spurs fans want Destiny Udogie to get more minutes

Both Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence are strong options for Thomas Frank, yet naturally, not everyone can start every game, which is exactly the type of dilemma that benefits a manager.

There is fierce competition across the pitch, something that should only serve to raise standards as individuals fight to secure their places in the starting eleven.

Tottenham fans have already begun calling for Udogie to be handed a start against Brighton this weekend, though Spence’s form is currently making it difficult for the Italian to force his way back into the side.

However, with Spurs involved in four competitions this season, the fixture load will naturally create more opportunities for both players.

Thomas Frank says he has ‘one of the best in the world’ at Tottenham Hotspur - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has offered high praise for one of his Tottenham Hotspur stars this week, who is ‘one of the best in the world’ in his position.

Thomas Frank has spent the last few months getting used to his Tottenham Hotspur squad, following his move from Brentford.

It certainly took time for the manager to get familiar with a few players, as he did not rush to name his Tottenham captain after his appointment.

Cristian Romero has since been confirmed as Tottenham captain following Heung-min Son’s departure, and the Argentine has looked solid since taking the armband.

Thomas Frank praises Cristian Romero at Tottenham

Speaking through the club’s official channels, Thomas Frank spoke on Romero and was full of praise for the Argentine centre-back, explaining just how highly he rates the defender.

Frank also went on to add that Cristian Romero’s personality is a driving force in the squad, stressing the passion the Argentine brings every time he steps onto the pitch.

He said, “I rate him super high. I think he is one of the best centre backs in the world. It helps when you have won a World Cup and the Europa League.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“The best perform week in, week out. I definitely see a more mature player and person, not that he has not been that before. He is aggressive when he needs to be, cool and composed when he needs to be.”

“I think he is a great character. He loves his football. He is like a boy sometimes with his love for the game. When he trains and plays, he has this focus, which is something really important. He is a great character.”

Romero’s form key for Spurs this season

Romero has often been accused of being a rash defender who tends to make reckless challenges that have, in the past, led to him being sent off.

However, so far this season, the Argentine has kept a level head, choosing his moments to go into a challenge, and impressively, he has only been booked once.

Frank will, of course, be counting on his captain this season to help Tottenham remain competitive in the league and push for silverware.

Thomas Frank reveals when Dominic Solanke could return for Tottenham Hotspur - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has provided a Dominic Solanke injury update ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash with Brighton.

Thomas Frank has managed to keep the majority of his squad fit in the opening stages of the season despite already playing a handful of competitive games.

The Dane has also carefully managed the gametime of his summer signings, allowing them to settle into the squad and build chemistry with their new teammates following their recent moves.

Tottenham Hotspur are unbeaten in their last two outings since the defeat against Bournemouth before the international break, and Frank will be eager to see his side continue that run this weekend.

Spurs are set to take on Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday in what will be their fifth Premier League match of the season.

A victory would not only secure three points but also keep Tottenham within touching distance of the top of the table, as Frank’s men aim to push for Champions League qualification.

Ahead of the clash, Frank has provided an update on his squad, with several players still working their way back to fitness.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Randal Kolo Muani, who has been building towards full sharpness, managed a little over ten minutes in the Champions League during midweek, which will be seen as a welcome boost for Frank.

Dominic Solanke remains sidelined after sustaining an ankle injury three weeks ago, while Radu Dragusin and Kota Takai are also continuing their recovery process.

Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison are long-term absentees, while Yves Bissouma remains a doubt for Tottenham.

Finance expert explains the details behind Tottenham’s new £90m cash injection - Spurs Web
Description

Football finance expert Stefan Borsen has explained the details of the deal Tottenham Hotspur have struck with Macquarie Group Ltd to raise £90m.

Since Daniel Levy’s exit, we have seen reports that the Lewis family are ready to inject over £100m into Tottenham so that the Lilywhites can go toe-to-toe with the biggest clubs in Europe.

Last week, it emerged that Tottenham have raised £90m through a receivables financing deal with Macquarie Group Ltd.

It was explained that Spurs had agreed to give Macquarie Group income from their future broadcasting rights in exchange for a lump sum of cash upfront.

Stefan Borsen explains the £90m deal Tottenham have struck

Borsen points out that by borrowing the £90m figure, Tottenham Hotspur have contractually agreed that Macquarie would be owed around £100m from the club’s next broadcast revenue payment from the Premier League.

He explained that Spurs have simply borrowed against their future earnings, which are guaranteed, meaning there is very little risk for Macquarie.

When asked about Tottenham raising the £90m, Borsen told Football Insider: “Macquarie will effectively get an assignment of the revenue that’s coming from the Premier League, which is as good as guaranteed between now and next May, so they will know that money is definitely coming.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Let’s say, for the sake of discussion, it’s the first £100m and they give Tottenham £90m now. These numbers are illustrative. It might not be £100m, it might be £95m, I don’t know what the interest rate is effectively.

Let’s say you work on £100m. So, £100m comes into Macquarie next May from the Premier League, but they’ve advanced Tottenham Hotspur £90m, so Macquarie make £10m for that lending.

“Spurs get their money today rather than in May. They can spend that money. They can do what they want with it. They’ve accelerated the payment of that money from the Premier League.

“The extent of Macquarie’s risk on that money is that the Premier League effectively can’t pay it. That’s very unlikely. There’s almost zero chance of that, and everybody’s happy. That’s how those things work. It just accelerates money that’s almost certain to come in.”

Not everyone is convinced ENIC will inject funds into Tottenham

Despite all the positive talk from the Lewis family, the reality remains that ENIC have invested only £122.1m into Tottenham since buying the club in 2001.

This latest move is not encouraging, as they have simply borrowed against the club’s future income rather than pumping equity into the club.

Worry for Tottenham as Micky van de Ven attracts interest from Champions League giants

Worry for Tottenham as Micky van de Ven attracts interest from Champions League giants - Spurs Web
Description

Micky van de Ven has been outstanding for Tottenham Hotspur, so it is no surprise he is attracting interest from one of the top teams in Europe.

Micky van de Ven has become a hugely popular figure at Tottenham Hotspur. He is truly one of a kind as a centre-back, impressing with his electrifying pace and even looking good when he gets up the other end of the pitch.

Jamie O’Hara recently claimed Spurs had the best centre-back pairing in the world and that van de Ven and Cristian Romero would start for most of the big clubs, including Real Madrid.

These comments came after one report revealed that van de Ven is on the radar of Real Madrid. However, his Tottenham contract does not expire for another four years, and Spurs want to tie van de Ven down to a new contract.

Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven

Another source has confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in van de Ven, but an official approach is unlikely to be made anytime soon.

Flash Score report that Real Madrid are keeping tabs on the defender, but the story is not carrying much substance at the present time. Despite this, the links could become more genuine as the season goes on.

Van de Ven’s agent has already said the 24-year-old has the level to play for a club like Real Madrid. The feeling at the La Liga side is that the Dutchman’s ambition matches theirs and that when the right moment arrives, he will be open to a move.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Signing van de Ven will not be straightforward because Spurs see him as a cornerstone of the new era under Thomas Frank. Therefore, Real Madrid may wish to draw up a longer list of potential transfer targets to ensure their defence is strengthened.

Xabi Alonso’s team are known to be weighing up their defensive options, and they are also eyeing other Premier League defenders, including William Saliba and Ibrahima Konate.

Van de Ven is unlikely to leave Spurs any time soon

There is no reason for Spurs to consider selling van de Ven. There have been reports of a potential £70m transfer fee, but this is not a lot considering the quality the centre-back possesses.

To put this into context, Manchester United bought Harry Maguire for £80m in 2019. Based on rises in inflation, that deal would now be worth a staggering £103m. Spurs should be unwilling to listen to any offers below this amount.

Van de Ven still has three years remaining on his contract, so Spurs should be in full control of the player’s future for now.

Tottenham told they have their very own Jude Bellingham emerging in N17

Tottenham told they have their very own Jude Bellingham emerging in N17 - Spurs Web
Description

David Bentley says Tottenham have a strong ball-carrying midfielder who reminds him of Jude Bellingham, but he is still very young.

Lucas Bergvall has made excellent progress since making his move to Tottenham Hotspur. It was obvious just from online compilations of the Swede’s play that he was a fine dribbler, but whether he possessed the quality to play in the Premier League remained unknown.

Bergvall has certainly removed any doubt, as he was excellent under Ange Postecoglou last season. However, there were questions over how important he would be to Thomas Frank.

The fact that Bergvall has started three matches for Tottenham this season has provided the answer. This includes the club’s two most recent matches, which both ended in victories.

Tottenham could have their very own Jude Bellingham

Former Spurs midfielder David Bentley has claimed that Bergvall plays in a similar way to Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham. He has praised the 19-year-old as a tempo setter, describing him as ‘positive’ and a ‘very good player’.

Bentley told talkSPORT: “He’s a great player, so positive on the ball. And if you’ve got a player like that in your team, making them forward runs. He’s like, you know, that Bellingham type, sort of running forward, that strong with the ball.

“And his head never goes down. He makes mistakes. And he seems like a player who can brush off mistakes easily. And to have a player like that in your team, it certainly sets that tempo.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Bergvall is becoming more of an attacking threat at Spurs

Bellingham is a player who is not just good at taking the ball forward, but also gets plenty of goals and assists. Bergvall lacked this ability last season, but he is looking more creative and dangerous.

The Tottenham youngster registered a goal and an assist against West Ham and it was his cross against Villarreal which led to a goalkeeping blunder.

If Bergvall keeps up this form, he should expect to be named in the Tottenham starting lineup plenty of times from now on.

Supercomputer predicts nailbiting Champions League finish for Tottenham after Villarreal win - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur got off to a winning start in the Champions League, causing the Opta Supercomputer to alter its predicted table for the league phase.

The Opta Supercomputer has not been generous to Tottenham Hotspur this season. The Supercomputer gave Spurs a 1.1 per cent chance of winning the Champions League and that Tottenham would finish 14th in the Premier League.

However, the Supercomputer did give Spurs a 50 per cent chance of defeating Villarreal, which of course ended in a 1-0 victory.

Tottenham sit in 14th after matchday one in the Champions League, but will be hoping to climb higher with a win over Bodo/Glimt at the end of the month. There should be a feeling of confidence around Hotspur Way, due to them getting the better of the Norwegian team in the Europa League last season.

Supercomputer predicts Tottenham to finish ninth in the Champions League

Before the Champions League campaign began, the Supercomputer predicted Tottenham to finish ninth. As a result, Spurs would miss out on an automatic spot into the last 16 by just one position.

The Opta Supercomputer predicted table has updated after the first round of fixtures, but it has once again placed Tottenham in a ninth place finish.

However, Spurs are now only predicted to miss out on the top eight by very narrow margins, with Inter finishing just 0.2 points ahead. Tottenham were originally predicted to finish on 12.84 points, but this has risen to 14.05.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs will need to improve to finish in the Champions League top eight

Tottenham managed to secure a win against Villarreal, but the performance left plenty of room for improvement. They are yet to face their two pot one opponents and have one or two away ties which could prove tricky.

Last season showed that anything can happen in the league phase. Even if Spurs finish in the top eight, that is no guarantee of them going far in the tournament. However, bypassing an additional leg would give the players more time to rest, so it is worth aiming for.
