Description

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for a big-name Manchester United player in the winter window, as Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his squad midway through the season.

The January transfer window is fast approaching, and Tottenham Hotspur could be among the more active Premier League sides this winter, as Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the second half of the season.

Spurs are reportedly in search of a new centre-forward, but Frank’s recent comments on Harry Kane and Ivan Toney have done little to cool speculation, with the manager refusing to rule out potential moves for either striker.

Tottenham are believed to have £100 million available following a recent ENIC cash injection, and with two Sporting Directors in place, there is an expectation that the club will move decisively in the market.

Tottenham eye Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo

According to The Daily Briefing, Tottenham are understood to be eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who has played just 30 minutes of competitive football this season.

Spurs were previously linked with Mainoo during the summer transfer window, but a proposed loan move fell through after Ruben Amorim insisted that Mainoo remain and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Despite that decision, Mainoo’s lack of game time has reignited speculation surrounding his future, with journalist Marc Brus reporting that Tottenham are among several clubs keeping tabs on his situation.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Mainoo is yet to start a Premier League game this season, with his only appearance in the starting XI coming in the League Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

Speaking via The Daily Briefing, Brus said: “I am told that the January transfer window is going to be a very interesting one for Manchester United as they may be forced into the market for a new midfielder.

“Names like Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton have been on the Red Devils’ radar for some time, though neither are likely to be allowed to leave their current clubs in the middle of the season.

“This poses an issue for United, though, as they face the prospect of having to replace a big name who wants to leave. That name, not too surprisingly, is Kobbie Mainoo, according to my source I just got off the phone to.

‘Kobbie Mainoo wanted to leave in the summer but United blocked it,’ my source said. ‘This will be one to watch again in January because he is still not playing and interested clubs are still there.’

“Multiple sources have confirmed to me that Napoli are big admirers of Mainoo, and that the Serie A champions have done the most work on the player’s side for that potential deal. There will be Premier League interest as well, though, from Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle and Leeds, who have all monitored him in recent months.”

Spurs midfield depth could become a concern

Spurs could certainly use reinforcements in midfield, particularly with Yves Bissouma’s situation under Thomas Frank still unresolved.

The Mali international has not played a competitive match since May under Ange Postecoglou and was left out of Frank’s squad for the Super Cup due to disciplinary reasons.

The former Brighton man’s situation has only worsened after suffering another injury while on international duty, adding to his frustrations.

Tottenham U-turn on statue stance as plans to commemorate legends are revealed - Spurs Web
Description

For years, Tottenham supporters have called for the club to immortalise its greatest icons around the stadium in statue form, and it now seems that wish might finally become reality.

Tottenham Hotspur has long maintained a no-statue policy outside the stadium, despite boasting a rich history filled with legendary figures who have worn the shirt with pride.

While several other Premier League clubs have chosen to celebrate their greats with statues or commemorative pieces, Spurs have resisted the trend, instead opting for a more minimalist approach to honouring their past.

Earlier this season, however, there was a shift in tone. The club reinstalled the iconic Bill Nicholson Gates, a move that delighted fans who saw it as a long-overdue nod to one of the club’s most revered figures.

Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham confirms statue plans

In a recent meeting with supporters, Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham has now confirmed that the club is working on plans to introduce statues for some of its most celebrated figures.

Venkatesham revealed that while the idea is still in development, discussions have begun with the club’s Fan Advisory Board to determine the best locations and long-term vision for the project.

The decision of who will be honoured first, however, will rest with the fans themselves.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked directly about the possibility of statues for club greats such as Bill Nicholson and Jimmy Greaves, Venkatesham responded by acknowledging the importance of involving supporters in the process, while expressing his own enthusiasm for the idea.

Speaking via the official Fan Advisory Board meeting, he said: “Yes, so good question. I think the Bill Nicholson Gates looks amazing and that was a sort of decision and idea that definitely pre-dates me but involving the Fan Advisory Board we thank them for their input.

“In relation to the question about statues I am in favour of the idea. What we are currently doing at the moment, working with the Fan Advisory Board, is just trying to see around the stadium what are the best locations for statues over the long term so that we can hopefully then make a decision around where the first statue could be.

“Just a bit of a heads-up, the process to make a statue is quite long, but we do have the ambition to do one. In terms of who the statue should be of, we are going to leave that to the fans.”

Spurs fans react as long-time wish nears reality

Since his appointment, Venkatesham has shown a clear willingness to listen to supporters and implement changes that align with their vision for the club’s future.

The return of the Bill Nicholson Gates was one such example, and it now appears more fan-led initiatives could follow.

Tottenham supporters have long voiced their desire to see statues erected around the ground, paying tribute to the greats who defined the club’s identity.

Description

Tottenham will be desperate to secure a win over Aston Villa in North London, but Troy Deeney believes there is one thing that makes predicting this clash slightly complicated.

Tottenham Hotspur would be aiming to get one over Unai Emery’s side when Aston Villa come visiting the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham’s home form has left much to be desired, with only a single win on home soil this term in the league.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s resurgence, which has seen them go undefeated in their last four, will leave them coming into this clash full of confidence and rhythm.

Troy Deeney gives Tottenham vs Aston Villa prediction

Ahead of the Sunday afternoon clash, Troy Deeney has attempted to give his prediction between the two, and even though he has tipped Tottenham to be victors, he admits it would not be an easy win for Thomas Frank’s side.

Speaking on his TikTok account, Deeney explained that while Tottenham have shown improvement under Frank, Aston Villa’s recent form cannot be overlooked. However, he believes Ollie Watkins’ injury troubles could tilt the balance slightly in Spurs’ favour.

Deeney said: “Very tricky game. Spurs, inconsistent, they have had a decent start, but have been inconsistent. Aston Villa, again, had an awful start, but it got to the end of the international break with some good results both in the Premier League and in Europe.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Spurs have got a bit of a backbone now under Thomas Frank. I fancy them to just get over the line. That injury to Ollie Watkins is going to be a bit of a problem as well for Aston Villa.

“So, I am going to go for a 2-1 Spurs victory.”

Chris Sutton and others agree with Troy Deeney’s Spurs prediction

Deeney is not the only one to have predicted a closely fought contest between the two sides; Chris Sutton also expects a tight encounter between Tottenham and Aston Villa.

Frank, however, would not mind how a win comes about, as three points are most important at this stage of the season.

The fixture against Villa is the first of a hectic run of games that is set to see Tottenham play seven matches in the space of 22 days, making it crucial for Frank to get this run off to a winning start regardless of the style of play.

Frenchman suggests he was pushed to join Tottenham Hotspur against his wishes

Frenchman suggests he was pushed to join Tottenham Hotspur against his wishes - Spurs Web
Description

A former Tottenham defender has confessed that he was not overly keen on making some of the moves he did during his career, including his switch to the Lilywhites.

Tottenham Hotspur endured a bleak period in the 1990s and until around 2005, with the club’s upward trajectory beginning when Martin Jol took over.

In that period, the Lilywhites had a lot of journeyman-like players who struggled to make an impression at White Hart Lane, with plenty of turnover in the squad.

One man who played on loan at Spurs during the 2003-04 season has now revealed that he regrets making the move to the North London club.

Former Tottenham midfielder hopes he had been advised better

The player in question is Stephane Dalmat, who arrived at the Lane on loan from Inter Milan in the summer of 2003, and he made an impressive start to his time in the Premier League.

However, his performances dropped off in the second half of the season, and his attitude off the pitch also caused some consternation at Tottenham, who decided not to make the move permanent.

The Frenchman moved around a lot during his career, playing for 11 different clubs, and he admits that he was poorly advised.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Dalmat told Girondins 4 Ever: “It’s the agents who want to make money on transfers. My agents, at the time, between the transfers from Châteauroux to Lens, from Lens to Marseille, Marseille to Paris, Paris to Inter, everything they picked up… Not one of them told me it was better to do something else, career-wise… That I should settle down

“It was mainly Éric Di Meco and Jean-Philippe Durand, who were sporting directors at the time, who told me to leave. They reached an agreement with Tottenham and Newcastle. I had Éric Di Meco call me and tell me that there was an agreement with these two clubs.

“I told him that there was no way I was going abroad. It was either I stay in Marseille, or they find me another French club, and there aren’t fifty: Monaco, Lyon, Paris… The deal was made for €70 at PSG, even though I wanted to stay in Marseille.

“I didn’t go to a youth academy, so I wasn’t trained. I was immediately presented with a fait accompli. I had a lot of transfers in the space of four years. When you change clubs often, you don’t have stability, so… When I left Inter, I was in a bit of a hole.

“I played for other clubs, Toulouse, Tottenham, Bordeaux… I didn’t have continuity, and I didn’t have the right people or entourage at the time to advise me properly and tell me to take my time, not to move too fast, especially when I was at Lens. I would have liked to have been told ‘stay at Lens for a second season to confirm your skills’, rather than making a big move to Marseille. But then, who turns down Marseille when they’re 19? Marseille was something else.”

Cynics will say that Dalmat is trying to shift blame and should take responsibility for his decisions. He could certainly have been clear to his agent about what he wanted.

However, the reality is that most of us make mistakes in our twenties and are not mature enough to make big career decisions.

The majority of footballers’ careers happen in their twenties, which is why it becomes incredibly important for them to have the right people around them who have their best interests at heart.

Journalist rubbishes reports that Tottenham will sell senior star in January

Journalist rubbishes reports that Tottenham will sell senior star in January - Spurs Web
Description

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has poured cold water over suggestions that one experienced Tottenham man would be allowed to leave the club mid-season.

Thomas Frank has made a solid start to his time as Spurs boss, particularly considering that Tottenham have had to deal with more than their fair share of injuries so far this campaign.

The Dane has not been able to call on the services of the club’s deadline day signing, but that is soon about to change, with Randal Kolo Muani now expected to be available for the clash against Aston Villa.

What made the Frenchman’s injury even more untimely is the fact that Dominic Solanke has also been on the treatment table, with Spurs fans still waiting for confirmation on when the club’s record signing will be available.

Tottenham will not listen to offers for Richarlison in January

The injuries to Solanke and Kolo Muani have meant that Richarlison has been the main man leading the line for Frank’s side so far this season.

However, the Brazilian’s form has tailed off after a good start to the season, and it has been reported that Tottenham could cash in on Richarlison in January, even though he has made 11 appearances so far.

This has now been rubbished by journalist Pete O’Rourke, who suggested that Spurs will not entertain offers for the 28-year-old mid-season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked if the former Everton man could leave Tottenham in January, O’Rourke told Football Insider: “I don’t see any move in January. I think he’s got a key role to play for Tottenham under Thomas Frank this season. We’ve seen that already.

“He has been the preferred starter in that number nine role. Obviously, Solanke’s been injured as well, so he’s not maybe been available as much as he could have been.

“But Richarlison seems to be enjoying his football under Thomas Frank, three goals and one assist in seven Premier League games. I don’t imagine Tottenham would encourage any move for Richarlison midway through the season.”

Richarlison’s international form will concern Spurs fans

The striker has not just been struggling for Tottenham of late but has also not impressed in his international outings.

The Brazilian forward made two substitute appearances for the Selecao across the international break and missed a big chance on Tuesday as Carlo Ancelotti’s men lost to Japan.

Tottenham have a problem as City Group set sights on Argentine centre-back

Tottenham have a problem as City Group set sights on Argentine centre-back - Spurs Web
Description

A Tottenham target is expected to make a big move sooner rather than later, but the Lilywhites have now found out that winning the race for the player will be far from straightforward.

Journalists continue to suggest that signing a centre-back to rotate with Cristian Romero and Micky van Den is a priority for Thomas Frank in the January transfer window.

However, Luka Vuskovic is developing rapidly at Hamburg, and many may feel that the Croat may be ready to push for a first-team spot at Spurs soon.

That might make it counterintuitive for the Lilywhites to spend big on a centre-back, which might be why Tottenham are reportedly turning to a River Plate starlet, whose stock is growing rapidly in Argentina.

Tottenham are expected to face major competition for Lautaro Rivero

A new report in El Intransigente (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now confirmed Tottenham’s interest in Lautaro Rivero, who is emerging as one of the best young centre-backs in the Primera Division.

However, the report says that Spurs are not the only ones eyeing Rivero, with Atletico Madrid also fans of the player.

Further, it is revealed that the City Group, owners of Manchester City, are now the latest club to enter the race for the 21-year-old defender.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is not revealed if it is indeed Man City or one of the other clubs in the group who want to sign Rivero, but they are now firmly in the contest after Spurs and Atletico made ‘initial enquiries’ for the player.

The outlet adds that the growing interest in the centre-back has set off alarm bells at River Plate, who now consider it a ‘nearly impossible task’ to hold onto the player for too long.

Spurs’ expected offer for Lautaro Rivero may fall short

Another new report from River Noticias (via Sport Witness) also names the same three clubs as the ones interested in Rivero.

They suggest that Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico would be willing to put $20m (£14.8m) on the table for the young defender in January, but that is not expected to be enough to clinch the deal.

River Plate are in a strong negotiating position since Rivero is protected by a $100m (£74.4m) release clause, and they expect to be well compensated for their starlet.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have just received some huge news ahead of their clash against Chelsea at home at the start of November.

As the Spurs players return from the international break, all attention turns to the clash against Aston Villa, who have won their last four in all competitions after a poor start to the season.

According to Opta’s Supercomputer, Tottenham are marginal favourites to beat Villa, but the Lilywhites have been far from exemplary at home under Thomas Frank.

While Frank’s attention will be solely on Sunday’s clash, he has received a big boost ahead of his first big London derby at home at the start of November.

Chelsea will be without their best player against Tottenham

The Blues will visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on November 1, and the Lilywhites will be hoping to set right their poor record against the West London club over the last few years.

They have now received a massive boost ahead of the game, as it has been confirmed by Enzo Maresca that Cole Palmer will not be fit for that clash.

Palmer has been dealing with a groin problem since August, and the Chelsea boss has now revealed that he will be out for six more weeks.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Marseca said (via The Independent): “I was wrong [about Palmer]. Unfortunately, he needs to be out for six more weeks. We try to protect Cole as much as we can. The most important thing is when he comes back, he is fully fit.

“The medical staff are not magicians. We hope six weeks are enough. We need to see it step-by-step. For sure, he’s going to be okay. He looks relaxed. He has tried to recover from the injury and is doing all the therapy.”

Spurs face an acid test over the next month

As Spurs Web has previously covered, Tottenham face a month of death from mid-October to mid-November, starting with Sunday’s game.

Thomas Frank’s men will go up against Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal within a space of a few weeks in what will be a real acid test of the side’s aspirations this season.

Tottenham warned of an interesting Luka Vuskovic problem developing in Germany - Spurs Web
Description

Luka Vuskovic’s rapid development may actually put Tottenham Hotspur in an extremely difficult position in the near future.

Vuskovic has been getting rave reviews after his impressive start to his loan spell at Hamburg, with the teenager being so good that it is hard to believe it’s his first taste of football in a top-five league.

The Spurs youngster has been labelled as the future of Croatian football, and Tottenham will be hoping that he can fulfil his potential at N17.

Vuskovic has revealed that Tottenham have a clear plan for his development, but it has now been suggested that his rapid rise may actually pose a problem to the Lilywhites.

Tottenham may be forced into a Luka Vuskovic decision next summer

Journalist Graeme Bailey has now pointed out that the 18-year-old is now showing that he is ready for top-level football, and he might be developing too quickly for the Lilywhites’ liking.

He suggested that Vuskovic may want to start regularly at the highest level as early as next season, and he might not have room to do that at N17, given Cristian Romero’s and Micky van de Ven’s presence at the club.

Bailey told TBR Football: “RB Leipzig and Dortmund are both in the market for a new defender in 2026, and Vuskovic is very much on their radar.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Spurs love the player and have no intention to sell, but let’s see what the player thinks. Is there a pathway for him at Tottenham with Romero and Van de Ven in place? Currently, it’s hard to see one.”

Spurs may have to loan Vuskovic out again next season

Vuskovic revealed that Tottenham were happy for him to stay at the club this season, but he decided to go out on loan in order to play regularly.

Now that he is tasting regular Bundesliga football and excelling, there is no doubt that he will want to continue playing regularly next season.

Description

Manchester United’s latest transfer desire may pose a big problem for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the January transfer window.

Over recent days, a number of outlets have reported that Tottenham are prioritising strengthening their midfield in the January transfer window.

That might potentially have to do with the fact that the Rodrigo Bentancur-Joao Palhinha partnership is yet to fully convince, while Pape Sarr will be away for the AFCON at the end of the year.

If you ask Spurs fans what their dream signing would be, many would answer Adam Wharton, who is thought to be one of the names on Thomas Frank’s wishlist.

Man United make big plans for Tottenham target Adam Wharton

However, TEAMtalk have now said that Spurs will have to deal with competition from Man United for the Crystal Palace star.

The report claims that the Red Devils are very keen on the England international and have now identified him as their top target for January.

United are impressed with Wharton’s composure on the ball and tactical intelligence, with the player said to be ‘loved’ by Ruben Amorim’s staff.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is revealed that the Eagles will demand upwards of £70m for the 21-year-old, and United would thus have to offload some of their players to fund a move.

Spurs also face competition for another midfield target in Victor Froholdt

Over recent days, some sources have claimed that Tottenham are big fans of Porto’s Victor Froholdt, who is valued at around €50m-€60m (£43.5m-£52.2m).

The Portuguese club are thought to be open to selling the Denmark international despite only signing him in the summer from Copenhagen.

This latest update by TEAMtalk confirms that Spurs are eyeing Froholdt ahead of the January transfer window.

However, the outlet says that United are also watching the 19-year-old closely while Brighton and Atletico Madrid are also plotting a move for the teenager.

Danny Murphy makes controversial claim about Harry Kane returning to Tottenham

Danny Murphy makes controversial claim about Harry Kane returning to Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

Danny Murphy has given an interesting assessment of Tottenham’s rumoured attempts to bring Harry Kane back to the club.

It is an open secret that Tottenham have a first-refusal clause for Kane, and it is also common knowledge that the Lilywhites would jump at the chance to bring their record goalscorer back to the club.

We know this because Thomas Frank himself said that he would love to have Kane back at Spurs if the striker wanted to return to N17.

However, the England captain has played down his chances of returning to Tottenham, stating that while he will always be a Spurs fan, he is very happy at the Allianz Arena.

Danny Murphy says a return to Tottenham would be a downgrade for Harry Kane

Murphy does not think there is much chance of the 33-year-old returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the season.

The pundit suggested that the only reason for the striker to return would be for personal or familial reasons, and he claimed that the Spurs legend would be taking a massive step down by coming back to North London.

When asked if he would put Tottenham’s chances of re-signing Kane at 50/50, the former Spurs midfielder told Goal.com: “I would think much less. Harry Kane is succeeding where he is at the moment – more than succeeding, he’s flying and scoring a lot of goals. He’s in a team where he thinks he can compete for the Champions League. He’s won his first league title, first trophy.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“There is always the family factor. We can never know about how that is. I remember Michael Owen being in Spain, and a year just wanting to come home with the family. We don’t know that side of Kane’s life. But from a football perspective, to go back to Tottenham, there is only one reason he would go back there and that’s because of the fact that the fans love him. In terms of football reasons, it would be to try to break Alan Shearer’s record.

“The way he is playing, if he wanted to leave Munich, I think he would have other options where he could go to another club and compete for the biggest honours on the planet – domestic titles and the Champions League.

“It sounds romantic going back to Tottenham but the reality is that while they are improving – I’m a big fan of Thomas Frank – he’d be going there to win a League Cup or an FA Cup. It’s a downgrade. He would be downgrading. His level of performance at the moment, he doesn’t need to.”

Spurs told they will be making a mistake by re-signing Kane

The reason for the speculation over the striker’s future is that Kane’s contract contains a £57m release clause, which can be activated next summer.

While many may see that as a bargain for one of the best strikers in the world, Murphy has opined that it would not be smart to pay such a high fee for a player approaching his mid-thirties.

The pundit added: “I’m a bit different with that – £57m for a 33-year-old is not something I would want my club doing. I think you know you’re not going to get anything back for that so it’s just ‘there’s 57’ and you are hoping that somebody at 33 is physically able to carry on at the level he has shown for another two or three years.
