Djed Spence has shared the feelings of the Tottenham squad ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League.

Although Tottenham’s campaign began with heartbreak against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup, which they lost on penalties, the Lilywhites showed that they can go toe-to-toe against the best sides in Europe.

That bodes well for the club ahead of the Champions League campaign, where Spurs will come up against some of the biggest clubs in Europe in the league phase.

Thomas Frank has set Tottenham’s first objective as qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League, and it appears that there is excitement and belief in the squad ahead of their European adventure.

Spurs players want to prove themselves on the biggest stage

Tottenham are returning to the Champions League following a two-year absence from the competition, but this will be the first taste of the tournament for many in the Spurs squad.

One of those is Spence, who revealed that he and his teammates are hungry to show what they can do on the biggest stage.

When asked about the Champions League, the full-back told Football.London: “It’s a great competition, it’s the big stage, everyone wants to show what they can do on the biggest stage. So yeah, looking forward to it.”

Description

Djed Spence has shed light on what Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to do in each game this season, and his answer suggests that a lot has changed since last season.

While it is still early days in the Thomas Frank era at Spurs, it is already clear that the Dane has instituted a major tactical shift.

Frank himself has admitted that he wants Tottenham to be more balanced than they were last season, stressing that the side needs to be good in all phases of play.

The Spurs head coach has said that he will adapt his style at N17, but made it clear that his main footballing principles, which we saw implemented at Brentford, will not change.

Djed Spence said Tottenham will prioritise defensive solidity

Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday was their first clean sheet in the Premier League since their 1-0 win over Man United back in February.

Djed Spence has now confessed that keeping a clean sheet will be the Lilwhites’ main aim going into games this season, insisting that the approach can deliver titles to the club.

When asked about how the tactical approach has changed under Frank, the full-back said (via Football.London): “I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I think the main thing is to be solid at the back, and our target is to keep as many clean sheets as possible. You do that and you win trophies, you win titles.”

Spence is certainly not short of confidence

The Tottenham defender gave this interview following the club’s loss on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup – a game where the 25-year-old managed to win duels time and again against the best players in the world.

When asked if he could take confidence from his performance against PSG, Spence responded: “Yeah, they’re all good players, but I wouldn’t say it gives me any confidence because I am already confident.”

Reports over recent days have claimed that Spence is on the verge of signing a four-year contract at Spurs, but the defender refused to divulge any information on that.

When asked if he has agreed a new deal, the former Middlesbrough man said: “No, no update on that unfortunately.”

Richarlison reveals Tottenham pre-season gave him something he hasn’t had in years - Spurs Web
Description

Richarlison has spoken about his experience working under Thomas Frank so far and admitted that this summer at Tottenham has been very different.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker could not have hoped to have made a better start to the season, scoring a brilliant brace in Spurs’ 3-0 win over Burnley.

With a World Cup coming up at the end of this season, the former Everton man will be keen to establish himself as a starter at N17 and catch the eye of Selecao boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Richarlison reveals what has been different about pre-season at Tottenham

The striker has been ravaged by injuries since his big-money switch to Tottenham three years ago, which has prevented him from getting a run in the side and building momentum.

Richarlison admitted that this has been the first time in many years that he has actually had a full pre-season and has revealed that he feels stronger physically for it.

Speaking about pre-season at Tottenham, he told Globo Esporte: “Pre-season is always tough and tiring, but it’s very important, especially for us with a new manager and new players arriving and leaving.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“It’s a time to improve physically and start to understand each other on the pitch in the way the coaching staff want us to play. It’s been years since I had a full pre-season, and I feel really good physically, ready for the start.”

Richarlison wants to repay Thomas Frank’s faith

The Tottenham striker gave this interview ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Burnley, and admitted that he has enjoyed working with Thomas Frank.

The striker expressed his keenness to repay the faith that the Dane has shown in him, and it is fair to say he certainly did that on Saturday.

When asked about the new Tottenham boss, Richarlison said: “Working with Thomas Frank has been great so far. He’s given all of us a lot of confidence and has been really good in our conversations. I hope to repay that on the pitch.”

Cristian Romero sends a real captain’s message to Tottenham fans after 3-0 Burnley win - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham fans will love what new club captain Cristian Romero has said after the Lilywhites emerged 3-0 winners over Burnley in their first Premier League game of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur ticked many boxes in Thomas Frank’s first league game in charge, keeping a clean sheet and creating several chances going forward.

While Spurs may not have played the highest standard of opposition, the Lilywhites did slip up often in must-win home games last season.

The Tottenham players and the coaching staff will be delighted with the overall display, especially given that they had just three days to prepare following their exertions in the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain.

Cristian Romero delighted with Tottenham’s beautiful start to the season

After the Super Cup defeat on penalties, Romero admitted that the Spurs players were hurting badly, but insisted that the experience would make the team stronger.

The Tottenham captain is delighted with how the side responded to their heartbreak on Wednesday night, describing their display against Burnley as ‘beautiful’, and insisting that the club are on the right path.

Romero wrote on social media after the 3-0 win: “How beautiful to start in this beautiful way. Great game by all. This is very long, but this is the right way. All together always @spursofficial.”

Thomas Frank’s brave selection paid dividends

Frank and his coaching staff would have been aware that mental and physical fatigue were factors following the Super Cup clash, but most managers would have been tempted to go with experience in their first Premier League game in charge.

Yet, the Dane took the brave call to bench Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur, and start with the teenage pairing of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray in the middle of the park.

Oliver Glasner hands Tottenham a blow with his latest Eberechi Eze reveal - Spurs Web
Description

Oliver Glasner has now handed Tottenham a blow by revealing what he expects Eberechi Eze to do at Crystal Palace this week.

Over the last few days, an increasing number of reports have claimed that Tottenham had agreed personal terms with Eze and were pushing forward with negotiations over Crystal Palace.

Some outlets even suggested that Eze may not feature for Palace against Chelsea as he is close to completing a switch to N17.

However, the attacking midfielder did start at Stamford Bridge and played 84 minutes as the Eagles held the Blues to a 0-0 draw.

Oliver Glasner expects Eze to play again on Thursday

Spurs fans would have been hoping to see Eze in a Palace shirt for the last time, and that the player would complete a move to N17 over the coming days.

However, Glasner has now made it clear that he expects the Tottenham target to be involved in his side’s UEFA Conference League opener against Fredrikstad on Thursday.

Speaking after his side’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea, the Austrian manager told Sky Sports (17/08/25): “Ebs should have scored a goal today, he had one and it was disallowed.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“He will come tomorrow to the Crystal Palace training ground, Tuesday off, we take Wednesday, and I expect him to be back playing for us against Fredrikstad.”

Tottenham remain confident of landing Eberechi Eze

Despite Glasner’s assertion, it has been reported over recent hours that sources at Spurs remain confident of completing a deal for Eze.

It has been alleged that Arsenal are not pursuing a deal for Eze any longer as they are prioritising landing a left-winger over a number 10.

Crystal Palace send out biggest hint yet that Eberechi Eze might join Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

There has been a huge transfer development surrounding Crystal Palace, which could hint that they expect Eberechi Eze to join Tottenham.

Despite heavy speculation linking the attacking midfielder with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, he featured in Palace’s 0-0 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

However, that may potentially be the England international’s final game in an Eagles shirt, as several sources are indicating that Spurs are confident of wrapping up a deal for Eze.

According to various reports, Eze has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham and has expressed a desire to move to N17, and now Palace have sent a big hint that they expect to lose their star man.

On Sunday, it emerged that Palace have identified Bilal El Khannouss as a possible replacement for Eze.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now reported that, apart from the Leicester star, Oliver Glasner’s men have also set their sights on Club Brugge attacking midfielder Christos Tzolis.

In fact, Ornstein claims that Palace have already had an opening offer rejected for the Greek international, and are now expected to return with an improved bid.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Are Palace waiting until they sign a replacement for Eze?

Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that many sources have reported over the last 24 hours that Eze is now close to completing a move to Tottenham.

That is why many were left surprised that he featured against Chelsea, but Palace’s transfer moves perhaps send a hint at what the hold up is.

The South London club may want to bring a replacement through the door before officially accepting Tottenham’s offer for their star man.

Manchester City just told Pep Guardiola something huge about Savinho and Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have received an update on their pursuit of Savinho as Manchester City make their stance clear, and the news should delight Spurs supporters.

Tottenham Hotspur have undergone many twists and turns this summer, but business is far from over. Spurs sources are confident Tottenham will complete the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

The England international is not the only attacker linked with a move to Spurs. Manchester City winger Savinho is tempted by the prospect of a move to Tottenham and the North London outfit have already made efforts to bring him to the club.

Manchester City have rejected two of Tottenham’s offers for Savinho. The first was £43m, and while the second was significantly higher at £60m, it was not enough to convince Savinho’s current employers to let him depart.

Manchester City tell Pep they should sell Savinho to Tottenham

Despite their lack of success up to this point, Tottenham are reportedly now in a strong position to sign the Brazilian. TBR Football report that the hierarchy at Manchester City have told Pep Guardiola that the club should cash in on Savinho.

A large offer will still be required, but Manchester City’s stance on the 21-year-old is no longer as strong. Also, the player himself wants to join Tottenham in order to get more minutes in the run-up to the World Cup next summer.

However, Man City are unlikely to sell Savinho before their clash with Tottenham next weekend. On top of this, he is expected to be sidelined until the end of August due to an injury.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Would Savinho be a good addition to the Spurs first-team squad?

Savinho has only played one full season in the Premier League and there was one area where he was found lacking. He only scored once in the league, yet missed six big chances. However, his creativity was impressive, as he registered eight assists in 29 appearances, with 21 of these being starts.

Stats do not tell the whole story anyway. Just look at Mohammed Kudus, a player who tallied five goals and three assists last season. However, he already has two assists in the league for Tottenham after just one match.

Savinho is a talented young player, and if Tottenham can secure both him and Eberechi Eze, Thomas Frank is going to have quite the attacking force at his disposal.

Tottenham Hotspur have moved to secure the future of one of their most improved players, with Djed Spence putting pen to paper on fresh terms that underline his growing importance at the club.

Tottenham Hotspur’s 2024/25 campaign was a season of numerous highs and lows, although it ultimately ended on a high as they lifted the Europa League trophy.

While Tottenham’s domestic form proved inconsistent, several players still emerged as bright sparks in an otherwise mixed campaign. Djed Spence, once outcast, was among them.

The versatile full-back, capable of operating on both flanks, forced his way back into Ange Postecoglou’s plans with a series of standout performances, stepping up impressively after Destiny Udogie’s injury.

Tottenham extend Djed Spence’s contract until 2029

Tottenham Hotspur rewarded Spence for his determined displays last season with a contract that was initially set to keep him at the club until 2028.

Less than a year later, Spurs have once again extended the 25-year-old’s stay, with a new deal now set to keep Djed Spence at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2029.

The agreement also includes the option of a further year, reflecting how highly the club value the full-back’s impact since establishing himself in the first-team squad.

A club statement read: “We are delighted to announce that Djed Spence has signed a new, long-term contract with the Club.”

Spence was once again impressive in Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Burnley at the weekend, playing on the left-hand side of defence.

Djed Spence set for key role in Tottenham’s 2025/26 campaign

Spence’s journey at Spurs has been anything but straightforward, with the full-back having to endure multiple loan spells away from the club before forcing his way back into contention.

Cristian Romero contract update after Tottenham captain holds positive talks with Thomas Frank - Spurs Web
Description

Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham is once again in the spotlight, with reports indicating that discussions with Thomas Frank have taken place regarding a new long-term contract.

Tottenham Hotspur will feel relieved that they have managed to keep hold of their defensive leader, Cristian Romero, up until now in the summer transfer window, especially with Atletico Madrid circling for his signature.

The Spanish side has since moved on to other targets, leaving Tottenham to take decisive action of their own by handing Romero the captain’s armband for the 2025/26 season.

It has been a bright start for the Argentine in his new role, as he marshalled the backline superbly in the Premier League opener, guiding his team to a commanding 3-0 victory over newly promoted Burnley, where his composure and authority stood out.

Tottenham and Thomas Frank hold talks with Cristian Romero

Tottenham are continuing to monitor possible signings for the squad, but securing their top players on new deals is just as high on the agenda.

Fresh report from TBR Football now states that new Spurs manager Thomas Frank has already held discussions with Cristian Romero about his long-term future in north London.

It is understood that Tottenham are determined to tie Romero down to fresh terms after appointing him captain, and talks have been described as positive so far.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Argentine is said to have been impressed with Frank’s early approach, with Tottenham now prepared to make him the highest-paid player in the squad should he commit his future.

Speaking on the captaincy decision, journalist Graeme Bailey told TBR Football: “Obviously, since it was made aware to Romero that he was not leaving, he has been exemplary in the way he has gone about things; he was the leader of that team anyway. So, from what I am told within Spurs, it was pretty much a no-brainer.”

Bailey further explained the situation surrounding Romero’s contract: “There have been talks with Thomas Frank, and he is very, very happy with what he has come across.

“Will this help persuade him to sign a new contract? It will not hurt. That is what the club really want. They want him to sign this new deal.

“It will see him become the highest-paid player at the club, if things start well this season, I do not think that will be a million miles away.”

Tottenham contract focus could extend beyond Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero is not the only player Tottenham are eager to secure for the long term, as midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is also believed to be in discussions over an extension.

The departure of Heung-min Son to MLS side LAFC this summer has eased pressure on the wage structure, giving Spurs more flexibility to reward their key players.
