Description

In an unusual pre-season twist, Tottenham will play two friendlies on Saturday. They first face Wycombe Wanderers at Hotspur Way before taking on Luton Town at Kenilworth Road later that same afternoon.

It’s not often you’re asked to write a match preview for a single pre-season game, only to be informed halfway through that Tottenham Hotspur are playing two fixtures on the same day.

As strange as it may sound, the decision makes a fair bit of sense when you consider that Thomas Frank will soon have to assess his options, deciding who stays, who goes, and who gets shipped off on loan.

And what better way to do that than by splitting the squad across two friendlies in one day? Frank will likely send out a youthful side to face Wycombe in the morning, then turn to his senior players for the afternoon clash against Luton.

Either way, Spurs fans won’t complain about getting to watch their team play twice the same day.

Tottenham kicked off their pre-season campaign last weekend with a 2-0 win over Reading under new boss Thomas Frank. The opener was set up by 18-year-old Luka Vuskovic before the youngster scored one himself. New signing Mohammed Kudus also impressed after being involved in both goals.

As for Saturday’s first opponents, Wycombe Wanderers will be playing their first match since mid-May. They haven’t won a game since April and missed out on promotion after losing their play-off semi-final 1-0 on aggregate. A late goal in the second leg ended their Championship hopes.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Meanwhile, Luton Town are enduring a steep decline. Having played Premier League football just two seasons ago, back-to-back relegations have seen them tumble into League One. Their final day heartbreak came courtesy of a 5-3 loss to West Brom, sending them down on goal difference.

Where to watch the friendlies against Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town

Spurs will play the Wycombe match behind closed doors at Hotspur Way, but fans can still catch it live on SPURSPLAY.

The club will also stream the Luton Town clash on the same platform, though availability might vary by region

Spurs vs Wycombe and Luton Town: Head-to-head record

Tottenham and Luton faced off twice in the 2023/24 Premier League season. Spurs came from behind with ten men to win 2-1 at home before securing a 1-0 win at Kenilworth Road.

As for Wycombe, Spurs last faced them in the 2021 FA Cup, winning 4-1. But fans will fondly remember the dramatic 4-3 win in 2017, when a last-minute goal sealed a sensational comeback win at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham team news

As mentioned earlier, it’s expected that the Wycombe clash will feature more academy and fringe players while the Luton game will involve senior names and potential starters for the coming season.

Injury-wise, James Maddison, Radu Dragusin, and Dejan Kulusevski are likely to remain sidelined after missing the Reading match.

Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil also didn’t feature due to fitness concerns. Their availability will be clarified in Frank’s pre-match press conference.

Richarlison, Mathys Tel, Kota Takai, Wilson Odobert, and Archie Gray didn’t play last time either, but their omissions weren’t injury-related, and they’re expected to feature on Saturday.

Predicted Tottenham line-ups

vs Wycombe Wanderers (Expected XI):

Antonin Kinsky; Pedro Porro, Luka Vuskovic, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies; Lucas Bergvall, Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr; Mikey Moore, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson.

In terms of youngsters off the bench, Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear, who both featured against Reading, also played in the U21 friendly against Leyton Orient on Tuesday. Additionally, Yang Min-hyeok and Dane Scarlett were also involved as Spurs lost 3-1 at Brisbane Road.

Predicted score vs Wycombe: Tottenham 4-0 Wycombe Wanderers

vs Luton Town (Expected XI):

Guglielmo Vicario; Djed Spence, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie; Archie Gray, Rodrigo Bentancur, Jamie Donley; Heung-min Son, Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus.

Don’t expect Frank to swap out all eleven players like he did against Reading. He’ll want to test different combinations and judge fitness levels more effectively; 45 minutes is too small a sample for that.

The Luton game should be a bit more competitive, with Spurs facing a side that, while struggling in recent years, still retains a Championship-level physicality.

Keep an eye on Archie Gray, who is expected to feature and could very well turn out to be the number 6 Frank has been looking for.

Five players to watch as Tottenham take on Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur face Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers this Saturday as they look to build on a comfortable victory over Reading last time out.

Tottenham are off to a winning start in pre-season, but the result only means so much. These fixtures are an opportunity for the Tottenham first-team squad to build up their fitness and for Thomas Frank to decide on who he wants to become his key players.

There were positives to be taken from the Reading game, but also areas where there is room for improvement. Certain players already seemed ready for the upcoming season, while others looked like they had only just returned from relaxing at the beach.

Here is a list of five Spurs players to keep a close eye on this weekend, whether it is because they shone against Reading, or to see if they improve after a poor performance.

Djed Spence had a mixed display against Reading

Djed Spence played at right-back in the second half against Reading. He linked up well with Mohammed Kudus and got forward, including firing a shot on target which could have been a goal. Had Spence squared the ball to Kudus, he would likely have earned himself an assist.

This was not the only time the 24-year-old made the wrong decision. He held onto the ball for too long on the edge of his own box, presenting Reading with an opportunity to get a shot on goal.

Generally speaking, Spence is a very good player, with quality in both attack and defence. However, he sometimes takes unnecessary risks and does not always make the best choices on the ball. It will be interesting to see whether Frank attempts to make Spence a more composed player, or whether he encourages him to take risks and play with freedom.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Lucas Bergvall has only just returned for Tottenham

Lucas Bergvall recently made his first Spurs appearance since April and it showed. He only touched the ball 13 times against Reading in a pretty lacklustre display.

No one can blame Bergvall for getting off to a slow start, considering the amount of time he spent on the sidelines. However, he now has 45 minutes of game time under his belt and will have been in training all week before the Luton fixture.

It will be interesting to see how quickly Bergvall gets up to speed and is able to deliver the energetic performances Tottenham fans became accustomed to last season. The role he is likely to play under Frank is also interesting, as he could be required to drop deeper at times than he did under Ange Postecoglou.

Jamie Donley made his first Spurs appearance since August

Jamie Donley was able to thrive last season whilst on loan at Leyton Orient. However, making the step up from League One to the Premier League will be a tricky task. Of course, Luton will be competing in the English third tier next season after two consecutive relegations, so he has a big chance to impress.

The midfielder was involved against Reading and his second-half effort was not too far off finding the back of the net. However, Donley did not produce anything notable or out of the ordinary.

There were times during his loan spell when he displayed a wow factor, whether that was scoring screamers or impressing with his creativity. Will he be able to replicate that at Tottenham, or will Frank decide he needs to continue building his experience elsewhere?

All eyes will be on Mohammed Kudus after his Spurs debut

Luka Vuskovic may just have pipped Kudus as the man of the match against Reading, but the summer signing was a joy to watch. His liveliness on the right wing and movement into the box was in sharp contrast to a few of his teammates, who looked far less prepared for the pre-season fixture.

Kudus was able to get an assist and, had Donley converted his chance, he would have had another. There is every reason to be excited at what he will do next and whether he can get on the scoresheet this time around.

Although Kudus is a well-reputed player, his performances at West Ham last season were clearly not up to the standards of the year before. Hopefully his newfound passion for Tottenham will be enough to get him back on track and playing his best football.

Heung-min Son may be playing his last few matches for Tottenham

Tottenham supporters should savour every moment they have left of Heung-min Son because the club captain could be on his way out. It is possible Son will leave Spurs before the new campaign begins, although Son is reportedly happy to stay at Tottenham until at least January.

Even if he does not leave, there will be curiosity over how big a role Son would have to play in the upcoming season. His second-half display against Reading will not have done him any favours, but in fairness, he only played 15 minutes while on international duty in June.

Son’s decline in pace is no secret, and the touchline winger role does not look a great fit. However, he was still one of Tottenham’s top-performing attackers for goals and assists last season.

Looking at the other players in his position, there remains a chance he will receive game time and every match between now and the new season could be a key indicator of whether this will be the case.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur could rotate heavily again as Thomas Frank prepares to take on Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers on the same day this weekend. Let’s take a look at not one, but two predicted Tottenham XIs.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to return to action this weekend, not once but twice. Spurs kick things off with a Hotspur Way friendly against Wycombe Wanderers at 11 am before travelling to Kenilworth Road to face League One side Luton Town later in the day.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm UK time at Kenilworth Road Stadium, in what will be Thomas Frank’s second game in charge of Tottenham (third if he also manages the earlier game against Wycombe).

Following a complete display against Reading last week, where Spurs emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, Frank will be hoping for an even stronger performance from his Tottenham players.

We have now attempted to predict how Thomas Frank will line up this weekend when Tottenham Hotspur take on Wycombe and Luton Town.

Tottenham predicted XI vs Luton Town in pre-season friendly

Last week, we saw Thomas Frank use two different elevens in each half, a strategy which also saw Tottenham name two separate captains for the game.

The first eleven that played in the first half only managed a goalless draw, while the second eleven added the goals to cap off what was a well-rounded team display.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Frank has already revealed that he will hand some of his Tottenham players 60 minutes on Saturday in the two fixtures against Wycombe and Luton.

Here is our predicted Tottenham XI to start against Luton Town: Guglielmo Vicario; Djed Spence, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie; Archie Gray, Rodrigo Bentancur, Jamie Donley; Heung-min Son, Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus.

Predicted Spurs XI to face Wycombe Wanderers at Hotspur Way

Earlier in the day, however, Thomas Frank is likely to mix things up and spread the minutes around his full squad. We expect the likes of Wilson Odobert, Alfie Devine, and Will Lankshear to be handed minutes off the bench in one of the two fixtures as well.

Yang-Min Hyeok, Phillips, and Abbott could once again miss out on this tie, with Tottenham likely to loan these three players out this summer.

Morgan Gibbs-White’s latest decision says a lot about his potential Tottenham transfer

Morgan Gibbs-White’s latest decision says a lot about his potential Tottenham transfer - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White has taken a fresh twist, as the Nottingham Forest midfielder appears set to continue his summer with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

With the Morgan Gibbs-White, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest transfer saga dragging on for weeks now, Monday, 21 July was tagged as crucial for Spurs in their pursuit of Gibbs-White.

Tottenham fans had their eyes firmly on Gibbs-White’s movements at the start of the week, as Forest were expected to head out for their pre-season tour of Portugal.

Forest, who have already played two pre-season games in the last two weeks, one against Chesterfield and another against Monaco, are set to play two more friendlies in Portugal against Fulham on Saturday, July 27, before facing Estoril Praia three days later.

Morgan Gibbs-White joins Nottingham Forest for Portugal tour

It was understood that Gibbs-White wanted his future sorted before Nottingham Forest’s tour of Portugal, with the midfielder giving Forest and Tottenham until Monday to reach an agreement over his future.

The England man raised eyebrows when he did not travel with Nuno’s squad to Portugal, but reports swiftly revealed that Gibbs-White missed the trip due to personal reasons and it had nothing to do with Tottenham. It was further claimed that the 25-year-old would join up with the Forest squad later this week.

A fresh report from John Percy, a reporter for the Telegraph, states that Morgan Gibbs-White has now arrived in Portugal with the Nottingham Forest team for pre-season. It is understood that the Tottenham transfer target flew out last night to meet up with Nuno’s squad.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The English midfielder still has two years left on his current contract, which is set to expire in 2027. Still, Tottenham activated Gibbs-White’s confidential £60 million release clause earlier this month and had a medical booked 24 hours later.

Forest, however, have long delayed the attacking midfielder’s transfer to Tottenham, as the Midlands club viewed Spurs’ approach as illegal.

The two sides have been involved in a back-and-forth over the last two weeks, although significant updates have been few and far between. Morgan Gibbs-White boarding a plane to Portugal to join his Forest teammates appears to suggest that a move is not imminent.

Spurs dealt blow in Gibbs-White chase amid pre-season schedule

This, of course, serves as a big blow for Tottenham Hotspur, who themselves will be travelling for their pre-season tour of Asia in a matter of days.

Undoubtedly, Thomas Frank would have wanted to have Gibbs-White in his Spurs squad before Tottenham’s pre-season tour, but those plans have been disrupted.

Reports have previously claimed that Daniel Levy and his legal team remain confident that Gibbs-White would join Tottenham this summer.

Tottenham tempted to submit opening offer for £40m Copa America winner

Tottenham tempted to submit opening offer for £40m Copa America winner - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in a Copa America winner is now gathering steam, with a new report revealing that Spurs are tempted to submit an opening offer.

It is now clear that one Manchester United player is on his way out of Old Trafford this summer after falling out with Rubem Amorim, and Tottenham have been monitoring Alejandro Garnacho since the start of the summer.

While it was reported earlier this summer that Man United asked Spurs to pay £70m for Garnacho, it has emerged over recent days that the Red Devils are ready to sell Garnacho for just £40m.

This is because they are keen to sell the winger swiftly, with Aston Villa and Chelsea also circling around the Tottenham target.

Tottenham are showing more interest in Alejandro Garnacho after latest development

GiveMeSport have now claimed that Spurs are now showing ‘more serious’ interest in their pursuit of the Man United man and are now tempted to submit a formal offer.

This is partly down to the fact that the 21-year-old’s asking price has dropped to £40m, with Thomas Frank and Spurs now seeing more value in the deal.

The Lilywhites have ‘upped the ante’ in their pursuit of Garnacho this week, but they will have to see off competition from several of their rivals to land the attacker.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is claimed that influential figures at Tottenham have been intrigued by the winger’s determination to prove his worth after being bombed out by Amorim.

However, the report adds that as things stand, Frank and the Tottenham Hotspur recruitment department have not made a final decision on whether to make a move for the youngster.

Is Garnacho an alternative for Morgan Gibbs-White?

As Morgan Gibbs-White’s move to Tottenham continues to stall, fans might wonder if Garnacho has been identified as an alternative by Spurs, who are now growing tired of Nottingham Forest’s delaying tactics.

However, GiveMeSport make it clear that Tottenham remain determined to get the Gibbs-White deal over the line.

The outlet asserts that Spurs want to add another attacker to their squad apart from the Forest star, particularly given the uncertainty over the future of Heung-min Son.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have taken to social media to voice their thoughts on recent reports linking the club with a loan move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Tottenham Hotspur are still in the market for a holding midfielder, and in the past few days, they have been linked with Palhinha of Bayern Munich.

The former Fulham man has struggled for gametime since his move to Germany last season, and is now reported to be weighing up his future.

Tottenham have shown interest in Palhinha, and now new reports claim that Spurs are considering a loan move for the 30-year-old.

Spurs fans have not wasted any time responding to the latest reports that Daniel Levy and Tottenham are considering a loan move for Palhinha.

In fact, many Tottenham supporters have urged the club to get a deal for the Portuguese international done, as Thomas Frank’s side is in desperate need of a six.

One fan said: “My preference is that we sign him FFS, just get it done. We desperately need a 6.” One more added: “Not ideal. But we do need a 6. Shield 6 is better than no 6.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Another fan simply commented: “That would be good…” Another supporter chimed in: “If true, I think a loan with an option to buy would be perfect.” While one more added: “Do it ffs, a crazy good deal.”

Other supporters, though, were not too keen, with one fan saying: “No thank you.” While another commented: “Cheap moves… let’s move on if we are not serious.”

Spurs transfer targets include Douglas Luiz and Adam Wharton

Tottenham have been linked with other holding midfielders this window as well, including Douglas Luiz and Adam Wharton.

However, the Spurs’ pursuit of Wharton hit a brick wall after recent reports claimed that Wharton’s preference is to remain at Crystal Palace for one more season, and while he is open to a move next summer, Liverpool are rumoured to be his preferred destination.

What Tottenham success would look like for Thomas Frank in four competitions this season

What Tottenham success would look like for Thomas Frank in four competitions this season - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank knows exactly what success would look like this season, but the demands of four different competitions mean there is little margin for error.

Thomas Frank would be delighted with the start his Tottenham Hotspur side has had under him, following their 2-0 win against Reading in their first pre-season friendly match.

There is still room for improvement, though, and Frank would be hoping for better performances throughout the remaining four pre-season clashes that Spurs have left.

The Tottenham manager has since opened up on what he thinks success in his first season would look like, stating that being competitive in all competitions, like Mauricio Pochettino’s 2019 side, would be great progress.

Spurs are set to play in four competitions next term, including the UEFA Champions League, the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and the Premier League, but what should Frank be aiming for in each competition? Here is what we think.

Tottenham fans won’t blame Thomas Frank for overlooking the Carabao Cup

The Carabao Cup is one of the cup competitions that does not have the greatest of prestige when compared to the other tournaments Tottenham would be competing in. In 2019, Spurs went all the way to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, before they were eliminated by Chelsea 4–2 on penalties.

Indeed, for new boss Thomas Frank, that would be an outstanding feat to reach; however, many Tottenham fans would rather the club win the entire competition than go far into it and lose.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Games would come thick and fast, and the further Spurs go in the Carabao Cup, the more games they are bound to play. Of course, if there is sufficient depth in the squad, then it could be easy to manage, but if there is none, then it could get very difficult.

In all, the Carabao Cup is one competition that Frank could win, and it would be great for Tottenham as they get to keep that winning culture, but no sweat would be lost if Spurs were eliminated early on in the competition.

A deep FA Cup run would be welcomed by Spurs fans

The FA Cup, however, is far different to the Carabao Cup and for Tottenham, going far in this competition would be perfect.

The last time Spurs won the FA Cup was back in the 1990/91 season, which is well over three decades ago. Pochettino’s 2019 side did not even manage a deep run in the cup competition, as they were knocked out in the fourth round, just like Spurs were last season.

Given the history and prestige of the FA Cup, being one of the oldest trophies in England, if Frank were to deliver this as his only piece of silverware, along with a respectable league finish, then it would be a successful first season as Tottenham boss.

Thomas Frank will want to get Tottenham into Premier League top six

Like it or not, the Premier League is the bread and butter for every top-flight side, and Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou last season, despite winning the Europa League, is enough proof of how important it is to stay competitive in the league.

It is clear to see why, as sides that secure a top four finish and get a spot in the UEFA Champions League are guaranteed a £100 million financial windfall, a significant amount that is not earned from any other competition.

That is why Frank has to ensure he remains very competitive in the Premier League, as Spurs would not tolerate a mediocre campaign in the top flight like that of last season.

For fans, a top-four finish would be ideal; however, a top-six finish would be respectable, with the view that it would only get better in the following season.

A Champions League quarter-final would be great for Spurs

Spurs have not been in the Champions League since the 2022/23 season, and thanks to Postecoglou’s Europa League win, they can now compete with some of Europe’s elite.

Tottenham have never won the Champions League, with the furthest they have gone in that competition being the final, which Pochettino’s side achieved back in 2019.

Another final run and another European triumph would be the dream of every Tottenham fan, and it very much will be welcomed by Frank.

However, at the moment, Spurs are not yet at that level. A run to the quarter-final in the 25/26 season would be a respectable one for a team like Tottenham, who have a manager who has no experience managing in Europe’s elite competition.

How Yoane Wissa feels about Newcastle United move after Tottenham approach

How Yoane Wissa feels about Newcastle United move after Tottenham approach - Spurs Web
Description

Journalist Graeme Bailey has now confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have indeed made an approach for Yoane Wissa this summer and has revealed what the Brentford star thinks about joining Newcastle United after the Magpies’ recent offer.

Earlier this summer, it was reported that Yoane Wissa is keen to reunite with Thomas Frank at Tottenham, but the Lilywhites seemingly have not pressed forward with a move for the 28-year-old.

According to some publications, Brentford are surprised that an offer from Tottenham has not arrived for Wissa yet, but the Bees have now received an offer from another Champions League club for the centre-forward.

On Tuesday, news broke that Newcastle’s £25m bid for Wissa was turned down, but the Magpies are pressing forward with talks, undeterred by the rejected offer.

What is Wissa’s stance on joining Newcastle United?

Journalist Greame Bailey has now also backed up the claim about the rejected offer from Eddie Howe’s side, while also revealing that Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest have both held talks over a move for the DR Congo international.

He explained that Wissa is open to a move to St James’ Park and has already informed Brentford that he wants to leave the club.

Bailey told TBR Football: “We are told that Newcastle’s opening bid is in excess of £25million, but Brentford were quick to say no. Newcastle will return, but Tottenham and Nottingham Forest have also had talks.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“As it stands, Brentford are insisting they don’t want to sell, but we understand that Wissa has already made it clear to Brentford he wants to leave. Wissa, whilst having a clear connection with Spurs boss Thomas Frank, is open to a Newcastle move.”

Yoane Wissa prefers a move to Tottenham over Newcastle

According to various updates over the past week, Wissa is expected to favour a move to Spurs ahead of Newcastle if both clubs make offers.

However, some journalists have said over the last couple of weeks that Wissa is no longer seen as a priority signing by Tottenham, which may explain why the Lilywhites have not made a bid yet.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur supporters are split over the club’s reported interest in Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, as speculation swirls around a potential £40 million summer move.

In the past few days, reports have linked Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho did impress last term, grabbing 11 goals and 10 assists in 58 appearances for Manchester United, which is more than a lot of Tottenham’s current attackers.

However, the Argentine is reported to have had a falling out with Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim and has been asked to look for a new club.

Spurs fans have been quick to respond to the latest rumours linking the Manchester United man with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is claimed that Alejandro Garnacho’s suitors believe he could be available for around £40 million, and that Tottenham are amongst a host of Premier League clubs interested in the Argentine, who wants to remain in England.

Tottenham supporters have been divided over the recent links, with many urging the club to stay away from the 21-year-old, while others are not opposed to the winger making a switch to N17.

MORE SPURS STORIES

One fan said: “If Son goes you just give whatever more minutes to Mikey Moore. You do not give United £40 million. People need to understand if we want more club-trained talent and ones of our own to stick with the club they need to be given the minutes to get experience and make a name for themselves.”

Another added: “Tottenham do not need Alejandro Garnacho, just signed Kudus. We need a defensive midfielder and a box-to-box creative midfielder like Morgan Gibbs-White. If we sign the players we need, Garnacho, I would not mind at all.”

A third commented: “We have enough players who can play there, so thank you very much for your concern, Man Utd.”

Others are keen on the winger moving to N17. One stated: “£40 million for Garnacho? That feels like daylight robbery in today’s market – Spurs should sprint, not walk.”

Another added: “If he can get his attitude sorted.” While a final fan commented: “I kinda like him. Could explode under Frank. Not sure we need him though. Depends on what we want with Moore, and we need to sell Son, which I think we will.”

Spurs must weigh up Garnacho move carefully

Tottenham Hotspur have sufficient cover in the forward areas ahead of the new season, but that depth could be weakened should Heung-min Son or Mikey Moore leave.

Rumours have it that Borussia Dortmund are preparing an offer for Mikey Moore, leaving Tottenham with a decision to make about the future of their young talent.

Captain Heung-min Son’s future is also in doubt, with reports claiming that Spurs are open to parting ways with Son if the right offers come in this summer.

Tottenham just sent a big hint about Thomas Frank’s plans for seven Spurs youngsters - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham’s Under-21 side were in action against Leyton Orient in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, and the side selected for the game has shed light on who is likely to feature against Luton Town and which youngsters Thomas Frank wants to keep as a part of his first-team.

Several young starlets impressed in Tottenham’s first pre-season friendly of the summer against Reading, none more so than Luka Vuskovic, who had a dream Spurs debut with a goal and an assist.

Alfie Devine and Mikey Moore also started the game, while the likes of Will Lankshear and Jamie Donley played in the second half, with Lankshear opening the scoring for the Lilywhites.

However, some of those players have also featured for Wayne Burnett’s men at Brisbane Road on Tuesday, thus perhaps making them unlikely to feature against Luton Town on Saturday.

Some big names feature for Tottenham’s Under-21s

The Spurs academy side suffered a 3-1 loss to the O’s yesterday, and the team selected for the game included some very interesting names.

Lanskhear and Donley were both included in the team, as were the likes of Yang Min-Hyeok and Dane Scarlett, neither of whom featured against Reading.

Curiously, the Spurs Under-21 side, which was captained by George Abbott, did not include Ashley Phillips, who also did not play against Reading last Saturday.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Has Thomas Frank just sent a big hint about Alfie Devine?

It is very interesting to note that Devine started against Reading, but was not part of the squad against Leyton Orient, while Donley, who many expected to make the step up to the first-team this season, did feature against the O’s.

That suggests that Devine is ahead of Donley in the pecking order for Frank and his coaching staff, with the former Wigan youngster potentially having impressed the new coaching staff in pre-season training.

Alasdair Gold has said that this season could be make or break for Devine at Spurs, and the attacking midfielder will be keen to grab his chance if he plays again against Luton.
