Speaking exclusively to Oddspedia as relayed by the Sun, Poyet explained how the situation unfolded. He described his relationship with Levy as professional and respectful, stressing that there had been honesty throughout his time at the club, yet he admitted the way it ended left him stunned.

Poyet recalled: “My relationship with Levy was professional, very respectful. We did not have any issues. From day one to the last, he was very honest with me. It was a little bit strange how we left.

“We were sacked the night before a game. We were at the hotel. We were ready to sleep and play a game the next day, to manage the game, and we were called down after 10 o’clock to be informed that we were leaving.

“It was quite a strange feeling leaving that hotel at 10.30 at night. Which means he was ruthless, proper. I felt miserable when I was leaving the hotel with my luggage. I was supposed to be thinking about tomorrow and going home. It was strange.

“If it was Monday morning after a game and you get a phone call from the chairman, you are thinking, oh, oh, oh… maybe we are getting the sack.

“But you have a phone call in your room. You are thinking, oh, something happened, maybe the game is called off or something else, but you would never expect to get sacked the night before a game at the hotel.”

Poyet gives verdict on Spurs without Daniel Levy

Reflecting on Tottenham’s future without Levy, Poyet admitted supporters may come to appreciate his work more than they realised at the time.

He urged fans to consider the infrastructure Levy leaves behind, while calling for patience with the new leadership.

“The real Spurs fans, the ones that go every two weeks to the magnificent new stadium – they know what he did for the club,” Poyet told Oddspedia. “They complained and they were trying to change the chairman. I think they know deep inside them that he did terrific things.

When asked who has been involved from the family so far, Venkatesham said: “There’s been a big focus on the Club from the next generation of the family, and to talk you through the key people – the first is Viv Lewis, who is a very regular attendee at Tottenham Hotspur games and also frequently joins us on pre-season tours.

“She was with us this summer for the whole of our tour to Hong Kong and South Korea. If you don’t do that, because of how the financial regulations work, you can find yourself in a position where you’ve got money to spend, but the regulations don’t allow you to spend it.

Aston Villa, Sunderland and Arsenal also hit by ticket losses

Right behind Spurs, Aston Villa follow in second place, losing around £102,065 each game as Villa Park records an average of 1,424 empty seats with tickets priced at £72.

Sunderland sit third on the list, dropping £75,645 per match even though their £41 average ticket is the lowest in the top ten, with 1,845 seats left unfilled most weeks. Everton and Arsenal round off the top five, posting estimated losses of £67,165 and £52,658 respectively.
