Description

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has confirmed that his players will mark the beginning of their clash against Tottenham Hotspur with a special gesture as a mark of respect for the Lilywhites after they secured the Europa League trophy on Wednesday.

The last few days have been surreal for everyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur, with the supporters not exactly being used to the feeling of winning trophies over the last couple of decades.

There were wild scenes at the trophy parade in North London on Friday and celebrations will continue following Tottenham’s final game of the season on Sunday.

It has been announced that the Europa League trophy will be paraded around the stadium while the Spurs players will get a guard of honour from the club’s former greats.

Brighton will give Tottenham a guard of honour

It will not just be the former Spurs players who will give the current Tottenham squad a guard of honour, but also their opponents.

Hurzeler has confirmed that the Segulls will give Tottenham the same mark of respect that they paid to Liverpool at the Amex Stadium in their previous encounter.

When asked if Spurs will get a guard of honour from his team, the German coach said (via Football.London): “Like we did against Liverpool, if great clubs achieve great things then it’s always a positive thing and also if English clubs achieve great things in the international cups. I’m very happy for them. Of course, they deserve it, so we will do it.”

Fabian Hurzeler says Ange Postecoglou is a role model for him

The Brighton boss also lavished praise on his opposite number for making history in Bilbao, admitting that he looks to the Australian as a role model.

The 32-year-old remarked that he is especially pleased that Postecoglou had the confidence to promise everyone last year about delivering silverware and was then able to fulfil that promise.

Hurzeler said about the Tottenham head coach: “I’m happy for (Postecoglou) because he’s a very good guy. He deserves it. He has a lot of pressure and how he deals with it, I think he’s a role model for young coaches as well, like me.

“I’m very happy for him. I know that he worked hard for this and what I really like is that he said already in September after a game against Arsenal (that he wins things in his second season). He’s a man who can look into the future and that’s something very impressive.”

Ange Postecoglou has provided an update on the kind of team that will take to the field for Tottenham’s final Premier League game of the season against Brighton, as the Spurs players continued celebrating into Friday evening after their historic Europa League success.

It is fair to say that not many Tottenham players will be too keen on playing so soon after their historic achievement, with Heung-min Son even joking in Bilbao that the Brighton game should be called off.

Hundreds of thousands of Spurs fans took to the streets of North London on Friday for the club’s trophy parade, with the players in a jubilant mood.

Given what we have seen on social media over the last 12 hours, it is clear that celebrations continued well into the night on Friday.

Ange Postecoglou makes an admission ahead of Brighton clash

Given that the Tottenham squad and the coaching staff have been partying non-stop since their famous win on Wednesday, there may not have been too much in the way of preparation for the clash against the Seagulls.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Postecoglou has now admitted that some of the players who featured in Bilbao will not start Tottenham’s final league game of the season, including Cristian Romero, Heung-min Son, and maybe Yves Bissouma.

The Australian said (via Football.London): “There will be a couple of absences. Romero has been struggling with his toe for quite a while so we’ll leave him out and probably Sonny because his foot has still not healed. They’ve both sort of made a massive effort to get to the final. Bissouma got a knock in the game and he’s kind of 50/50 at the moment. The rest of them, physically anyway, are ok.

“We’ll field a team. As I’ve got older, I used to be different, I think you need to celebrate your achievements properly. That was my message to the boys. Important for them as they’ve achieved, important for those around them and important to make experiences as memorable as possible.

“It was important the boys celebrated as we’ve been through a lot. It’s how you create this winning mentality and bond.”

A celebratory atmosphere is expected at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

While fans did get an opportunity to see the players flaunt the trophy and their medals in the parade on Friday, Sunday will be the first time that the supporters see the team in action since the famous night in Bilbao.

The atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been borderline toxic at times this season, but that will certainly not be the case tomorrow, with a celebratory atmosphere expected.

The end-of-season lap of honour will be special, and the current Tottenham squad is fully deserving of huge appreciation after the joy they have given to the fan base.

Tottenham Hotspur have just announced big plans for how their Europa League victory will be celebrated following the club’s final game of the campaign against Brighton, including a special guard of honour.

Hundreds of thousands of Spurs fans took to the streets of North London on Friday for the club’s trophy parade, but the celebrations are not yet over.

The club have just announced plans to honour the current Tottenham squad for their achievement ahead of the game against Brighton on Sunday.

The club have confirmed via an email to the supporters that they have big plans for the lap of honour at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the final whistle against Brighton.

The perfect way for some Spurs players to sign off

We know that a number of fringe players could be on their way out of Tottenham this summer, while there has also been speculation that some big names could leave Spurs.

For those who are on their way out, there will be no better way to sign off than parading the European trophy around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Guglielmo Vicario has revealed the touching gesture Ange Postecoglou made before the Europa League final, giving Tottenham players an emotional lift on the biggest night of their careers.

Winning silverware is never easy in football, let alone clinching a European trophy. A lot has to go your way if you are to emerge as a winner, and often, you have to make your own luck – that was certainly the case with Tottenham Hotspur throughout their Europa League campaign.

Spurs overcame every challenge thrown their way in Europe this season, showing different facets of their game across varying opposition and circumstances, which ultimately led to them ending a 17-year-long wait for silverware.

Tottenham are champions of Europe after winning the Europa League, following their 1-0 triumph over Manchester United in Spain at the San Mames Stadium.

Guglielmo Vicario shares what Ange Postecoglou did for Tottenham before the Europa League final

Guglielmo Vicario was a big part of Spurs’ success in Europe this season, and Vicario’s underlying stats from the final underline just how instrumental he was to Tottenham’s success on the night.

The Italian shotstopper who made crucial stops from Shaw and Garnacho during the clash has now opened up on what exactly the Tottenham manager did to galvanise his side ahead of the Europa League final, shedding light on a moment that clearly left a mark.

Vicario has stated that Spurs’ preparation ahead of the game included Postecoglou gathering video messages from the players’ families, which were then shown in the team hotel before his simple dressing room speech.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Vicario said, as relayed by football.lodon: “The message [in the dressing room] was just to do our things, to play for us, for our fans and especially for our fans who were here to support us in the stands.

“We had an emotional video from our families in the pre-match meeting. It was very emotional and I think in the back of our minds they played a big part of the game tonight.

“It was at the hotel. We had the preparation of the game as well as this brilliant video. My mum and my dad [spoke in my video]. They were here celebrating with me on the pitch. They said just to fight for this badge, to fight for Tottenham Hotspur and to make them happy.”

Guglielmo Vicario backs Postecoglou to lead Spurs forward

Ange Postecoglou has shown throughout Tottenham’s Europa League run that he is a manager who can adapt his style when needed, and Guglielmo Vicario’s latest revelations show just how good a man-manager the Australian is.

The Spurs manager’s future remains uncertain, given his dismal Premier League record, but Vicario also made it clear that he wants Postecoglou to remain at the helm.

He said: “Yeah of course. He’s my gaffer. He’s the person who decided to bring me to this football club. I just have to be very thankful to him for how much he believed since day one, since he wanted me to sign for this football club.

“I’m very happy for him, for what we achieved altogether tonight. It’s a brilliant night, he deserves this a lot. He drove us brilliantly this season. It’s a big credit to him.”

He added: “He said to us many times since the beginning [that the Europa League would be the trophy we would focus on]. Also last season he said this group is going to change something, it’s going to change the history of this football club and we did it, so credit to him. He was the first to start to believe in something special and we did it tonight, it’s unbelievable.”

The Tottenham goalkeeper also stated that he believes this latest cup win would help change the mindset that people have about Spurs.

He continued: “The most important thing is we won. It’s a big achievement for the club, for the fans. An important night, an historic night for everyone that loves this football club so I’m very happy.”

“A victory like this, it starts to change something in the back of the mind of a lot of people that maybe they didn’t give credit to us in some situations this season. It’s been a tough season but now we won a trophy, we make history, we will play in the Champions League next season so it’s been a good night.”

Tottenham Hotspur are European champions for the fourth time in their history after edging past Manchester United 1-0 at the San Mames Stadium in Spain.

The fans have long waited for this moment, with their last taste of silverware coming in 2008 when they lifted the League Cup following a win over Chelsea.

The England international has now given a heartfelt admission about just how much he has come to love life at Tottenham, following his arrival from Leicester City in the summer of 2023.

Micky van de Ven reveals the exact Ange Postecoglou words that drove Tottenham to success - Spurs Web
Description

Micky van de Ven threw himself into everything in Bilbao, helping deliver Tottenham’s first major trophy in nearly two decades – and now he has opened up on how much Ange Postecoglou’s second-season trophy claims helped Spurs achieve their goal.

Tottenham Hotspur have ended their 17-year wait for a major trophy after beating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in Spain at the San Mames Stadium.

It truly is a night that will live on in the memories of Tottenham supporters, who now bring their 2024/25 season to a close on a high, despite a disappointing Premier League campaign that has left them languishing in 17th place.

Brennan Johnson grabbed the only goal of the final, but it was the defensive resilience shown by Spurs that drew the highest praise, with the team holding firm throughout the second half after taking the lead just before the break.

Micky van de Ven says Tottenham were determined to help Ange Postecoglou win silverware

Micky van de Ven was central to Tottenham’s dogged performance, and had he not anticipated the danger after Guglielmo Vicario failed to deal with a cross, making a dramatic goal-line clearance, the outcome could have been far less favourable for Spurs.

The Dutch defender, who has played a vital role throughout the campaign, has helped Ange Postecoglou end Tottenham’s long wait for silverware, and he has now expressed his pride at fulfilling that mission.

He also opened up on how Postecoglou’s second season trophy claims served as motivation for the Tottenham players, who were determined to prove their manager right.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He told The Independent: “The gaffer said this and I think he proved he has done it. He won again something in his second year and everyone who was doubting him, everybody who was doubting us, we all proved them wrong this year.

“Of course, it was a really tough season. In the league, we did not perform well, it was really poor from us. I cannot say anything else but that, but in Europe we did so well.

“To be honest, I am really happy he said he always wins something in his second year. We made sure he can keep saying this. We are happy for him and happy for the team.

“Probably critics will continue but I do not care anymore. We proved them wrong. We won a trophy so they can say whatever they want. We are here, we are lifting a trophy and have made some history, so of course that is an unbelievable feeling.”

Ange Postecoglou’s impact on Spurs dressing room highlighted after historic win

Ange Postecoglou’s man management has been clear to see, and that goes a long way towards explaining why so many Tottenham players are prepared to run through brick walls for the Australian coach.

The emotional tone set before the final was revealed by Guglielmo Vicario, who underlined just how strong the bond is between the manager and his players.

He said: “The message [in the dressing room] was just to do our things, to play for us, for our fans and especially for our fans who were here to support us in the stands.

“We had an emotional video from our families in the pre-match meeting. It was very emotional and I think in the back of our minds, they played a big part in the game tonight.

Heung-min Son reveals three things he will never forget about his time at Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

After leading Tottenham to Europa League glory, Heung-min Son shares an emotional admission: “I stayed here because I wanted to do something special.”

Over 60 former Tottenham Hotspur players have departed N17 in the last two decades and gone on to lift silverware elsewhere, underlining just how long the club’s wait for a major trophy had dragged on.

However, amid the revolving door of exits and arrivals, one figure has remained steadfast in his commitment to the Lilywhites.

Heung-min Son has been a constant presence in the squad for ten years, weathering managerial upheavals and title near misses, despite having the ability to walk into some of Europe’s top sides.

In that time, Son has chased a moment that always seemed to dance just out of reach. But on Wednesday, 21 May, inside the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Tottenham Hotspur finally conquered Europe again.

Heung-min Son opens up on Europa League win with Tottenham

Spurs secured their third-ever UEFA Europa League trophy with a 1-0 win over Manchester United, and it was club captain Heung-min Son who hoisted the trophy high into the Bilbao night under the floodlights.

It was a landmark moment in the club’s modern history, and for Son, it was an indelible chapter added to his own legacy at Spurs.

MORE SPURS STORIES

A player so often at the heart of Tottenham’s best moments now finds himself cemented among the greatest to wear the armband.

After the full-time whistle, an emotional Heung-min Son gave a candid interview on the club’s official X account, opening up about what it was like to win a trophy with Tottenham after years of trying.

He said: “We did it. I cannot believe that we did it. A trophy – I have said a couple of times I stayed here because I wanted to do something special, and today we did something special that people will never forget. Happy moments – let us just celebrate.”

Son was also asked if doubt ever crossed his mind in the build-up to the final. He replied, “No, I never doubted, and obviously we had some tough games, but I always believed that we could win this tournament, and today is the final day that we lift it.

“I mean, credit to all the boys – they were outstanding from day one. I may not be the best captain that they have had, but the boys were so respectful and so kind, and I am lucky to have such an amazing group behind me, supporting me. I am the happiest guy in the world.”

Heung-min Son reflects on legendary status after lifting Europa League

Heung-min Son has already made his claim for legendary status in north London after captaining Tottenham Hotspur to a first major honour in 17 years.

When asked whether he had considered what it means to be a club legend, the Spurs forward offered a typically heartfelt response.

He continued: “I will never forget – I mean, I scored the first goal in the stadium, being captain of this club, winning the Europa League – I mean, what can I say?

“This memory… in ten years, I did special things that I would never, ever forget, and I am so, so happy. I am all over the moon.”

Now with a major trophy finally secured, the 32-year-old will hope this moment represents the start of a more fruitful era at Tottenham.

Description

Ange Postecoglou has broken his silence with a rousing speech on his Tottenham Hotspur future, just days after delivering the club its first European trophy in over four decades.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has had his future up in the air for most of the season, with uncertainty lingering over whether he would stay beyond the summer.

The Spurs boss currently has Tottenham sitting firmly in 17th place on the Premier League table, a single place above the relegation zone.

However, despite the north London club’s poor league campaign, Postecoglou has achieved a feat that no Spurs manager has managed in over a decade – he has ended the club’s long wait for silverware by delivering a trophy.

Ange Postecoglou addresses future after Tottenham win Europa League

Tottenham are champions of Europe after they beat Manchester United 1-0 in Spain at the San Mames Stadium, and with that victory comes renewed talk surrounding the future of Ange Postecoglou.

It was reported by some outlets before the final in Spain that, regardless of the result against Manchester United, Postecoglou was expected to leave Tottenham at the end of the season.

The manager has now given the biggest update yet on his Tottenham future during the club’s open bus trophy parade in north London, offering a passionate speech that may hint at his intentions.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Postecoglou stated that in films, the third season is always better than the second, hinting at a possible third season at helm in North London.

He said, as relayed by Andrew Harts on X: “I told them and they laughed. I told them and they did not believe, but here we are and we are here because of this unbelievable group of people – players, staff – absolute heroes.

“Led by the legend Heung-min Son, Cuti Romero, James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario – all of them heroes. And they did it all for you because you deserve it.

“This club deserves it. And I will tell you something, I leave you with this – all the best television series, season three is better than season two.”

Spurs boss Postecoglou reflects on league form and his future

Postecoglou himself has stated that while the League campaign has been disappointing for Tottenham this season, he remains a winner and believes the current league position does not reflect the reality of the club’s progress.

Speaking on the prospect of Spurs potentially sacking a manager who has delivered their first European trophy in 41 years, Postecoglou said: “Look, I think I said yesterday, I am pretty kind of not relaxed. Relaxed is not the word because I would be disappointed if we could not continue on this path, but it is not a criticism. I understand why it would be difficult for a club like this to buy into one person’s vision.

“I remember even when I signed, the club and even Daniel said, ‘we went after winners, it did not work and now we have got Ange,’ but mate, I am a winner. I have been a serial winner my whole career. It is what I have done more than anything else. I know people talk about my football, which I am very proud of.

“I know people dismiss my achievements because they did not happen on this side of the world, but for me, they were all hard-earned and all I have done my whole career is win things.

“I understand, obviously the way things have gone in the league, people are right to be concerned about it, but I do not think that is a true reflection of where it is at. Whatever happens, my own belief in what I do does not waver and I will continue to push on and do what I do.”

Description

A hungover Tottenham Hotspur side look to close out a rollercoaster season with one last dance in front of their fans as they prepare to face Brighton for their final Premier League game of the 2024/25 campaign on Sunday.

Apparently, it all wasn’t a dream. We’ve pinched ourselves enough and, with all our hearts out, we can proudly say, Tottenham Hotspur have finally lifted a trophy.

Everyone associated with the club have been on cloud nine ever since Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final of the Europa League, courtesy of a Brennan Johnson goal to end their 17-year silverware wait.

Currently sat 17th in the Premier League table and winless in their last six domestic fixtures, the champions of Europe will unfortunately have to take a brief pause from their celebrations. One final Premier League fixture awaits as they return home to North London, where they’ll be desperate to end their bitter domestic campaign on a high note.

Brighton, meanwhile, have faint hopes of securing European football next season. They must win this game and hope Chelsea lose both their remaining games against Nottingham Forest and their Conference League final against Real Betis. That said, Brighton will look to take care of their own business and be content with the significant improvements they’ve made this season.

The Seagulls come into this game off the back of a thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Amex, where goals from Mitoma and Hinshelwood sealed their fourth consecutive unbeaten outing in the league.

What time does Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton kick off?

Location: London, England

Stadium: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Date: Sunday, 25th May 2025

Kick-off Time: 4pm BST

Referee: Rob Jones

VAR: Michael Oliver

Tottenham vs Brighton: Head to head record

The reverse fixture was arguably Tottenham’s worst this season. They took a 2-0 half-time lead only to somehow lose 3-2 in the end.

That said, Spurs have still had the upper hand in recent meetings, winning five of the last seven clashes between the two sides. In fact, they’ve come out on top in seven of their last eight home league games against Brighton, with the only defeat that dates back to April 2022.

The Seagulls are chasing history. They’ve never won back-to-back league games against Spurs before. Unsurprisingly, the last four encounters between these two high line playing sides have produced 17 goals.

Tottenham team news

Every player who featured in the Europa League final gave it their absolute all, and understandably, there’ll be some fatigue in the squad. Richarlison came off around the hour mark looking slightly uncomfortable, though he appeared the most energetic during the post-match celebrations.

Micky van de Ven described his heroic goal-line clearance as “painful,” and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Ange Postecoglou give him a well-earned rest.

We await further updates from the boss at Saturday’s press conference. James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin are all ruled out until next season.

Brighton team news

Jason Steele and Tariq Lamptey are both doubts for this game. Meanwhile, Joao Pedro is unavailable following a training ground altercation with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke, having already missed the Liverpool game.

Georginio Rutter, Solly March, Ferdi Kadioglu, and James Milner are all ruled out with longer-term issues.

Predicted Tottenham line-up

Tottenham: Vicario, Porro, Romero, Danso, Spence, Sarr, Bissouma, Bentancur, Odobert, Son, Tel

We’re stuck on a hanging seesaw here. Ange Postecoglou could either rotate heavily to rest his Europa League warriors or send them out for one last outing. We’ve struck a balance in this predicted XI.

Kinsky, Ben Davies and Archie Gray may be considered as rotations in the back 4. The midfield options, however, remain thin. That will mean the same trio may continue unless Ange decides to throw Gray in the mix. Up front, he might rest both Dominic Solanke and Richarlison after their midweek shifts.

Our prediction

As this preview goes live, the streets of North London are packed white. The trophy parade is in full swing and who would’ve imagined? A club languishing 17th domestically, led by a manager who not long ago faced wave after wave of scrutiny and criticism. Yet here they are: Champions of Europe and it’s all happened the Ange Way.

There were magical scenes at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Wednesday where the final was screened live. When the final whistle was blown in Bilbao, a massive pitch invasion followed. Fans had to be hilariously sent off the turf as the ground staff reminded them there’s still one more game to be played there this season. Fair to say, after such a sweet, long wait of 17 years, similar scenes aren’t very unlikely.

Ange won’t want his players to switch off just yet. He knows the importance of ending on a high, especially for the supporters. Tottenham have only lost their final league fixture once in the past 14 seasons (W11, D2), winning the last four by a combined score of 16-3. That’s a stat Ange will hope to extend. On the flip side, Brighton have lost five of their seven Premier League season finales. (BBC Sport)

Spurs fans are still sore from that reverse fixture collapse. There’s a score to settle, and with spirits soaring at an all-time high, we expect Spurs to get the job done

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to ring the changes this weekend as they prepare to play their final Premier League game this season. Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to face Brighton on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to take to the field one last time this season in the Premier League when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs will take to the field as European champions, following their 1-0 win against Manchester United in the Europa League final at the San Mames Stadium.

The Lilywhites have also now secured a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, making Sunday’s clash nothing but a dead rubber.

Here’s our Tottenham predicted XI to face Brighton in the Premier League:

Predicted Tottenham line-up vs Brighton in final Premier League match of the 2024/25 season

Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: Following his mixed final performance that was both heroic and chaotic, we expect Ange Postecoglou to opt for the Italian one last time this season.

Right-back – Pedro Porro: There is a case for Archie Gray featuring down on the right on Sunday, which would be interesting to see, but we believe Porro will get the nod against Brighton.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Centre-back – Cristian Romero: The Europa League man of the match for the final and the Europa player of the season should line up at the back for Tottenham on Sunday, in what could be his final game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Lilywhite of Tottenham, that is, if he departs this summer.

Centre-back – Ben Davies: Micky van de Ven was the one who ensured Spurs’ lead was intact when he cleared off the line in acrobatic fashion from Hojlund’s header. But we suspect he could sit Sunday out, with Ben Davies, whose contract expires this summer, perhaps playing for the last time in N17.

Left-back – Djed Spence: Destiny Udogie left his heart on the pitch on Wednesday night and could be benched this weekend, with Spurs starting Premier League defender Djed Spence expected to return.

Pivot-midfielder – Archie Gray: Postecoglou has not been shy to play Gray in midfield of late and with nothing on the line, we expect he could get a go once more, perhaps in preparation for next season.

Centre-midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur: Spurs’ midfield options are very limited given their injury crisis, which means Bentancur could be back in the middle of the park.

Centre-midfielder – Wilson Odobert: The young French winger did not feature in the final, although it was thought he would be the one Postecoglou would have opted for. He could return in that dynamic number ten role.

Right-midfielder – Mikey Moore: The Spurs youngster should return to the starting XI after he featured last against Aston Villa in matchday 37, leaving Tottenham’s top scorer, Brennan Johnson, on the bench.

Striker – Mathys Tel: Dominic Solanke and Richarlison both featured in the final, and with Solanke playing the entire ninety minutes, we could see Tel lead the line on Sunday.
