Interesting update emerges on Heung-min Son’s Tottenham future amid Saudi interest - Spurs Web
Description

A fresh update has now revealed what Heung-min Son’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is beyond this summer, with a lot depending on the man in the Spurs dugout next season.

Heung-min Son is one of Tottenham Hotspur’s longest-serving players at the moment, with the Korean spending a decade at N17.

The Tottenham captain has been a loyal servant of the club and is on the brink of achieving something special with the Lilywhites, come Wednesday, 21 May, when Spurs take to the pitch at the San Mames Stadium in Spain to play Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Son has described the final against Manchester United as the biggest day of his career, as he could achieve a lifelong dream, winning a trophy with Tottenham.

It would be no easy feat for the Lilywhites to end their nearly two-decade wait for silverware, but Son and co would believe they can emerge victorious after beating Man United three times already this season.

Heung-min Son could remain at Tottenham for an extra season

Should Son get his hands on silverware, he could leave Spurs on a high, as there have been talks about the future of the Tottenham captain.

Heung-min Son signed a one-year contract extension in January, but there is a huge possibility Son could leave Tottenham this summer, with Saudi clubs showing interest.

MORE SPURS STORIES

TBRFootball’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, has now shared what he knows about the future of the Tottenham captain.

The journalist believes that there is a huge chance that Son remains at Spurs beyond this season, but a lot of that would be dependent on the new manager.

He said: “I am told Son could remain at Spurs beyond this summer and as we know, it is totally dependent on the manager.

“That is why you are not really seeing many links abroad, because I think it is still possible that he has a future at Spurs. Obviously, but that is very dependent on who takes over, as they are expecting Postecoglou to go.”

Ange Postecoglou has had a horrid second spell at Spurs, with the Lilywhites sitting in 17th place in the Premier League table, and this has put his future in serious doubt.

The Australian could still win the Europa League, but a Europa League triumph would not be enough to keep Postecoglou in the Tottenham dugout, as per recent reports.

Speaking about Son’s links to the Saudi Pro League, Graeme Bailey provided more insights on the situation, stating that the Pro League remains in contact with the Korean’s representatives about a potential summer move.

Bailey added: “The one thing with Son is that the Saudi Pro League are in touch with him and his camp for a summer signing.

“There is a possibility of him going, but equally there is the prospect of him staying as well. I know some Tottenham fans probably think he is going to go for definite, but it is not definite.

Roy Keane predicts Manchester United vs Tottenham result in Europa League final - Spurs Web
Description

Roy Keane has given his verdict on who he believes will come out on top in the Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

In a little less than 72 hours, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will lock horns in the Europa League final at San Mames Stadium in Spain.

Tottenham will be desperate to get their hands on silverware and secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, having endured a miserable Premier League campaign that currently sees them languishing in 17th place.

Manchester United are not faring much better. They sit just one point and one place above Tottenham in the league standings, and they too are in need of a trophy to salvage what has been a turbulent season.

Roy Keane backs Manchester United over Tottenham in Europa League final

With the final set to take place on Wednesday, 21 May, former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has now given his prediction for the Europa League showdown.

Keane believes his old side will just about edge past Spurs, and he pointed to the club’s winning pedigree and the influence of Bruno Fernandes as key reasons why.

He told SkySports, as relayed by The Sun: “You still have to fancy United, someone like Bruno can produce, the history of Manchester United still carries a little bit of weight.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“There’s not much between them [in the league] but come the crunch, come the final, United’s history in finals, them winning cups the last few years, you’d like to think they would have a bit more knowledge around the game than Spurs.

“That might edge it for them, and I think Bruno can produce that bit of magic.”

Spurs out to prove a point as final approaches

Tottenham have already beaten Manchester United three times this season, and they will need to do it a fourth time if they are to lift the Europa League trophy on Wednesday night.

Former Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle has warned that it is never easy to beat a Premier League opponent four times in a single season, but that is exactly the mountain Ange Postecoglou’s side will have to scale.

Preparation-wise, both clubs have had contrasting approaches. Despite both teams playing on Friday in the Premier League, Manchester United have opted for a two-day rest and a two-day train schedule ahead of the final.

Tottenham, on the other hand, trained on Sunday, will hold another session on Monday, and will train again in Spain before the final.

It will be fascinating to see who comes out on top in Bilbao, and Spurs fans will be hoping Keane’s prediction is nothing more than a familiar bit of pundit bias.

Jan Vertonghen’s retirement ceremony had a big Tottenham Hotspur presence - Spurs Web
Description

Jan Vertonghen has now bid an emotional farewell to football, with the legendary Tottenham Hotspur defender hanging up his boots. Spurs fans may recognise a few familiar faces at the ceremony too.

Since Jan Vertonghen announced his decision to retire from professional football back in March, the countdown had well and truly begun.

Now, the moment has arrived, and for the final time in what has been a long, decorated, and industrious career, the Belgian has kicked a football for the very last time.

Vertonghen was a stalwart for Tottenham Hotspur, spending eight seasons in north London between 2012 and 2020. He made 315 appearances for the club and earned a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year on two occasions.

His performances at the back were integral during Tottenham’s journey to the UEFA Champions League final in 2019, cementing his legacy as one of the most dependable centre-backs of the modern era.

Jan Vertonghen retires after final match for Anderlecht

The centre-back, who had been plying his trade at Anderlecht in Belgium, has now officially hung up his boots after playing 70 minutes in Anderlecht’s 3-1 defeat to Club Brugge.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Following the match, the Belgian side ensured the former Tottenham man received a proper send-off, with tributes paid on the pitch to honour his remarkable career.

Vertonghen was joined on the pitch by former Spurs teammates Mousa Dembele and Michel Vorm, as they posed for photos with commemorative shirts inscribed with the number of appearances he made for each club during his career.

There were also messages played out on the big screen from Heung-min Son and Ben Davies, as well as former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho.

Spurs legacy and Jan Vertonghen’s impact

Jan Vertonghen is undoubtedly one of the great centre-backs to represent Tottenham in the Premier League era. His consistency, calmness on the ball, and defensive intelligence made him a fan favourite.

Tottenham supporters were quick to pay tribute to the Belgian after he confirmed his retirement, with many fondly recalling his solid partnership with compatriot Toby Alderweireld.

Speaking after his announcement, Vertonghen explained: “I have noticed that it is becoming more and more difficult to prepare myself physically for training sessions and matches and to show myself as the player I want to be. Not only towards the fans and my fellow players but also towards myself. That is why I will be stopping after this season.”

William Gallas risks Arsenal fan wrath with interesting Tottenham claim

William Gallas risks Arsenal fan wrath with interesting Tottenham claim - Spurs Web
Description

William Gallas has reignited the age-old debate around what truly matters in football – league position or silverware – and Tottenham fans may enjoy his answer.

The never-ending argument surrounding what truly defines success in football continues to stir conversations. Arsene Wenger has weighed in on how European success should be rewarded in recent weeks, offering a viewpoint that sparked fresh reactions.

The former Arsenal manager questioned the logic behind allowing UEFA Europa League winners into the following season’s UEFA Champions League, stating that the winners of that competition should simply remain there the next season.

Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in the thick of this discourse. Despite enduring what many would describe as a turbulent campaign, they are still in with a chance of making it a better season than their north London rivals Arsenal, who currently sit second in the Premier League but have again ended their campaign trophyless.

William Gallas makes bold claim on trophies vs league finishes

It feels unjust to some that Spurs and Manchester United, both having endured dismal domestic seasons, could end up with the same European reward as clubs that have been more consistent across 38 games.

The Europa League pathway, offering not only silverware but a Champions League berth, has become a point of contention.

William Gallas, a former defender who played for both Arsenal and Tottenham, has now shared his thoughts on the topic. Speaking to Genting Casino, Gallas did not hold back in outlining his stance on what matters more in a player’s career.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“As a player, I would rather finish 17th and win a trophy than second with no trophy. That also means you can get back into the Champions League next season,” Gallas said.

He added, “I am not sure I agree with the Europa League winners going into the Champions League, but that is the reason why Manchester United and Tottenham have put so much into the competition and forgotten about the Premier League.”

Tottenham and Manchester United chasing Europa League success

Indeed, Tottenham are currently languishing in 17th place in the Premier League, while Manchester United sit just above them in 16th.

Yet both clubs now have their sights firmly fixed on the UEFA Europa League, where triumph would bring not only a coveted piece of silverware but also a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Ange Postecoglou was also asked to weigh in on Wenger’s viewpoint, and his response was characteristically candid. “Well, I mean that is a debate that has been raging for years, like at least the last eight days. I have never heard that before, so… I have said it before, mate, Spurs does crazy things to people. It does, it does.

“You put that club into any sentence or any issue, and invariably they all come out and try and diminish as much as they can. Why was there not an issue before and it is an issue now? What is the difference? I do not understand what the difference is.”

Tottenham are simply following the rules, the same rules that have governed European qualification for years. Should they go on to win the Europa League, few – if any – supporters would dwell on their league struggles.

Let us not forget, their presence in European competition this season came as a result of a top five finish. That achievement has presented them with a route to glory and a chance for meaningful redemption.

Description

Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has now given his Europa League final prediction, and it will get Tottenham fans dreaming.

The Europa League final is all that matters now for many Tottenham Hotspur fans, who are desperate to see their team finally lift a trophy.

Tottenham are set to face Manchester United on Wednesday at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, a city steeped in Spanish football history.

Ironically, Spain is also where the Lilywhites experienced heartbreak back in 2019, when they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool in the Champions League final in Madrid.

Michael Dawson backs Tottenham to beat Manchester United

Michael Dawson, a former Tottenham defender, has been speaking about his old club ahead of the Europa League final showdown.

The ex-Spurs captain spoke candidly about how damaging it would be for the club to lose Cristian Romero in the summer, with the Argentine centre-back reportedly being courted by clubs outside England.

Dawson also weighed in with a score prediction that will lift the spirits of Spurs supporters. He believes that the Lilywhites will cruise past Manchester United in Spain.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking to Gambling.com, Dawson predicted a 3-1 victory for Tottenham Hotspur over Manchester United in Wednesday’s final.

Spurs desperate to join host of clubs who ended trophy drought this season

Winning the Europa League would mean everything to this Tottenham squad and their supporters, who have endured a torrid domestic season.

Spurs currently sit 17th in the Premier League, a staggering twelve places below where they finished last season. For fans who have seen their side stumble all year, this final offers a rare chance to salvage pride.

Manchester United are not faring much better. They are only one point and one place above Spurs in the Premier League table, and their campaign has been equally disappointing.

However, the 2024/25 season has seen several sides end long waits for silverware – Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and Bologna among them. Tottenham will be hoping they are next, and that Michael Dawson’s prediction becomes reality.

Tottenham will use one of these three line-ups vs Man United in Europa League final

Tottenham will use one of these three line-ups vs Man United in Europa League final - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham have options to tweak their tactical setup against Manchester United in the Europa League final – and we have looked at three possible line-ups Ange Postecoglou could go for.

In four days, Tottenham Hotspur will take to the field in Spain to face Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final.

It would be a historic night for the club, as it would give the Lilywhites an opportunity to end the season on a high with a European trophy.

However, Postecoglou is set to be without a few first-team regulars, with James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski all ruled out of the final in Bilbao on Wednesday night.

The absence of these creative and attacking talents leaves Spurs with some tactical reshuffling to do.

We have predicted how Tottenham could line up against Manchester United, but with the fluid nature of Postecoglou’s style, there are a number of ways the Australian could set his team up. Below are three different tactical approaches Tottenham could take.

Pape Matar Sarr in the ten role for Tottenham vs Manchester United

Indeed, we expect the core of the Tottenham team to be in place when Spurs take to the field in Bilbao on Wednesday.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie should all return to the starting eleven, despite featuring sparingly in the lead-up to the final.

While the front three and midfield base are almost nailed on, the ten role remains one of Tottenham’s biggest tactical question marks.

Pape Matar Sarr is a doubt for the final, but if fit, he could be used in a more advanced role to link midfield and attack.

Here is the predicted line-up for this setup: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr; Johnson, Solanke, Son.

Wilson Odobert as a fluid Spurs number 10

In the Premier League clash against Aston Villa, we saw Postecoglou experiment with a fluid 4-4-2 system, with Mikey Moore on the right, Heung-min Son on the left and a front pairing of Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert.

It was far from a conventional 4-4-2 with two traditional strikers, as Odobert frequently dropped into midfield areas to aid ball progression and link play, making the setup more unpredictable and dynamic.

Given how that system functioned, there is every chance we see a repeat of it against Manchester United.

Postecoglou praised Odobert’s performance in that hybrid role, and it would not be surprising if the Frenchman plays a central part again should Spurs use this tactical structure.

Here is the predicted line-up for that system: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bissouma, Bentancur, Odobert; Johnson, Solanke, Son.

Richarlison and Solanke up top in flat 4-4-2

While a fluid shape is a likely choice, Postecoglou also has the option to set Tottenham up in a more traditional flat 4-4-2, with two clear centre-forwards.

In such a system, Spurs could field a front two of Dominic Solanke and Richarlison – a pairing that would offer strength, movement and physicality. It would be an attack-heavy approach, filled with forward-thinking players across the pitch.

However, the drawback lies in defensive responsibility from the wide players, as Brennan Johnson and Heung-min Son are both more effective high up the pitch rather than tracking back.

Even so, with Solanke’s ability to drop deep and help link play, there remains tactical flexibility in this shape.

Chris Waddle warns Tottenham against inviting former player back to the club

Chris Waddle warns Tottenham against inviting former player back to the club - Spurs Web
Description

Chris Waddle has expressed reservations over whether a former Tottenham player is the right man to take over from Ange Postecoglou.

Many big-name managers have been linked with the Tottenham job over the last couple of months, but some young English coaches have also been mooted as potential replacements for Postecoglou.

One of these is a man who started his coaching career in the Spurs academy and has just got his club promoted to the Premier League for the second time in his short managerial career.

It has been claimed that Scott Parker has plenty of admirers at Tottenham and the club’s hierarchy have not ruled out an approach for their former midfielder.

Chris Waddle fears move for Scott Parker will be a mistake

Waddle has now pointed to the fact that Parker is unproven at the highest level, and more importantly, he opined that the 45-year-old’s style of play will not be accepted by Tottenham Hotspur fans unless he can win trophies.

The Tottenham legend also suggested that it might not be a wise choice for the English coach to jump ship to N17 at this stage of his managerial career.

When asked whether Parker can succeed at Spurs, Waddle told Football Insider: “The Championship is the Championship, and let’s be honest, the three who go up will likely be the three who go down. That’s the gulf, the gap is that big. So, if they concede 80 goals after conceding 16 this season, Burnley, if he concedes 80 to 90 goals next season, will we be saying he was the right man?

MORE SPURS STORIES

“You’re only as good as your players, another question mark would be, Burnley play counter-attacking football. And they sit and park the bus. Would Tottenham fans enjoy that? No. So, is he a Tottenham-type manager? Listen, if he can win trophies, he’s a Tottenham-type manager. If he’s gonna be mid-table and it’s boring, Tottenham fans will not have it.

“So, will Scott Parker turn that into an attacking team that is exciting to watch, what Tottenham fans will want to see? Hard job. Now, Scott Parker I’m sure, living in London, would love to get an opportunity to manage a club like Tottenham, but will it be a good decision for him? I don’t think it would.”

What Parker has said about his future

The Burnley boss was asked a few weeks ago about his future, but he refused to rule out a summer move, although he also did not indicate that he is leaving.

When asked directly if he sees himself at Turf Moor next season, Parker said that he is happy at Burnley and that his full focus is on ending the season strongly.

He will not get an opportunity to have a crack at the Premier League with the Clartes next season, but perhaps an approach from Spurs or someone else may turn his head.

Everton have just made Tottenham look silly with new stadium announcement - Spurs Web
Description

Everton have just made a big announcement about their new stadium before its opening that raises serious question marks over the Tottenham hierarchy’s inaction over the past six years.

It has now been nearly more than six years since Spurs moved into their new stadium, but the club are yet to secure a naming rights partner, with the venue continuing to be called by its generic name: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Reports over recent months have claimed that Tottenham have had conversations with Amazon, Google, and DHL regarding a long-term deal.

Some sources have even claimed that Daniel Levy has already rejected multiple naming rights offers, with the Spurs chairman said to be holding out for a lucrative agreement.

Everton have found a naming rights partner before the stadium’s opening

Everton have become the latest Premier League side to change stadiums, with the club set to move from the historic Goodison Park to the sparkling new modern stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

The 2025-26 season will be the Toffees’ first campaign at the new venue, but even ahead of its opening, they have now confirmed that they have a new naming rights partner.

Everton have announced on their official website that their new stadium will now officially be known as the Hill Dickinson Stadium after they reached an agreement with the international commercial law firm.

MORE SPURS STORIES

According to The Telegraph, the deal is worth £10m per year to Everton, but the length of the deal is unknown at the moment.

How big a Tottenham deal is Daniel Levy looking for?

According to various sources, Tottenham are looking for a much more lucrative naming rights deal than the one Everton have just agreed.

It has been claimed that Daniel Levy wants a 10-year agreement worth £20m per year for the naming rights of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which perhaps explains why Spurs have not yet found a naming rights partner.

However, it does not appear that Levy is too bothered about that at the moment as use of the generic name accrues benefits to the club’s brand, particularly when the venue hosts high-profile events like the NFL.

Tottenham fans will love fresh Mikey Moore news coming out of Hotspur Way - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to respond firmly to the growing interest in the services of Mikey Moore, with the North London club set to make a big move to ward off the clubs circling over the teenager.

Moore made his mark when he got first-team opportunities earlier this season, showing why there is so much hype around him, not just at Hotspur Way, but also across the English and European game.

However, just a year on from signing his first professional contract with the Lilywhites, it has been rumoured that Borussia Dortmund and others are eyeing a summer deal for Moore.

It has also emerged over recent days that Moore has changed his representation to Unique Sports Group, which some saw as a further sign that the youngster could be eyeing a transfer.

However, it has now emerged that Tottenham Hotspur are set to offer a strong response to the interest in the 17-year-old after a big decision has been made by the club’s hierarchy.

Tottenham expected to tie down Mikey Moore to a new contract

GiveMeSport have now claimed that the Spurs academy graduate is set to be rewarded with a new contract by Tottenham after Dortmund stepped forward their move for the youngster.

It is revealed that the Bundesliga giants have contacted Moore’s representatives regarding a summer transfer, but the Premier League side are adamant that the winger is going nowhere.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs are ready to offer the England Under-19 international a new long-term deal in an effort to significantly strengthen their position ahead of suitors attempting to enter negotiations.

The outlet claims that Tottenham are increasingly confident that Moore is happy with the career path he is on at the club and that the player is expected to agree on an improved deal soon.

Spurs eyeing increased first-team role for Moore

GiveMeSport say that Moore could be on course to get more game time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

The youngster will be given an opportunity to make his mark during pre-season as the club assesses whether he can be fast-tracked.

The publication explains that Tottenham have been putting a lot of work into Moore’s development, and with the club keen to add to their homegrown numbers, they are expected to resist any efforts by Dortmund or others to sign the winger.
