Description

Jermain Defoe believes that Tottenham Hotspur have hit the ball out of the park by appointing Thomas Frank and by bringing his assistant Justin Cochrane along with him, with the former Spurs striker revealing what he noticed when he saw how the duo run their coaching sessions.

Spurs fans are excited for the new era under the Danish coach, who many feel has earned the right to show what he can do at a bigger club after helping Brentford consistently punch above their weight.

Tottenham have also managed to bring Frank’s A-team along with him from Brentford, with Cochrane’s arrival exciting a lot of people.

Like Defoe, the 43-year-old began his coaching career in the Hotspur Way academy, and Cochrane admitted that he is excited to return to the place where it all started for him.

Jermain Defoe reveals big Thomas Frank and Justin Cochrane insight

Defoe admits that he is over the moon that Spurs have decided to hire Frank, revealing that the Dane was his number one choice to replace Ange Postecoglou.

The Tottenham legend also revealed that he had a chance to watch how Frank and Cochrane go about their work up close, confessing that he was very impressed with their messaging and communication.

When asked if the Danish coach is the right appointment for Spurs, Defoe told talkSPORT: “100%. And that’s the one I wanted to be honest. That’s the one. I thought if we can get Thomas Frank be amazing because I went in last season. Obviously, I know Justin Cochrane who looks like he’s he’s going to he’s going to come with Thomas Frank.

“He started at Tottenham just before he went to United. Unbelievable coach by the way. I remember I got invited in. So, I went in for the day and when I went in, I just thought I’ll just sort of like be on the side of the pitch. I watch training.

“He said to me, ‘No, come in the meeting’. So I come to the meeting and listen to all these coaching points. They were really clear messages. And then after I sort of like watched the training sessions, I listened to his coaching points and where we stood when he coached and the way he sort of like drives the sessions, the way he connects with people which is also important.

“After training, I sat down with him, it’s just that you know that people skills and just tried to pick his brain a little bit but really nice guy. He’s a top coach, top man.”

Frank and Cochrane have their work cut out this summer

There have already been reports that Frank has identified the priority targets for Spurs this summer as he looks to reshape the squad to fit his ethos.

However, the first order of business for him and his coaching staff would be to have talks with Cristian Romero and Heung-min Son about their Tottenham Hotspur futures.

Given what Defoe says about the pair’s communication skills, Spurs fans will be optimistic that they can get Romero to change his mind and commit his future to the club.

Description

Former Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has had his say on the club’s decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou, offering a brutally honest assessment of the fallout and what it means for the future.

It is no news that Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with Australian manager Ange Postecoglou, sacking him after two seasons in the Spurs dugout.

The decision to sack the former Tottenham boss was not popular with a lot of Spurs supporters, as Postecoglou recently gave many of them their best memories in recent years, following their Europa League win last season.

Regardless of the 59-year-old’s trophy success, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy decided that it was time for the club to part ways with Postecoglou, stating performance-related reasons as to why Spurs made the call to part with Postecoglou.

Hugo Lloris reacts to Tottenham sacking Ange Postecoglou

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has now opened up on what he thinks about the club’s decision to sack Postecoglou after he delivered the Lilywhites a piece of silverware for the first time since 2008.

Lloris was brutally honest in his assessment of the failings of his teams during his time at Spurs and questioned whether they would have swapped finishing higher in the table for a trophy.

However, he stated that the Tottenham top brass’ decision to part ways with Postecoglou is one that he believes they made because they feel it is best for the club, stating he was not surprised by the decision.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked whether the decision to sack Postecoglou surprised him, Lloris said, as relayed by the Mirror: “No, nothing surprises me in football. But at the same time, it is hard to say something because I am on the other side. I do not know what happened inside the club so it is really hard for me to judge.

“If they made this decision, it is because they believe there is another option which is better for the future of the club. What Ange Postecoglou did was just remarkable. He brought this Europa League trophy, he brought a lot of joy to the Spurs community, a lot of pride as well and we all have to be thankful for that.

“I think they had a really hard season. They had a lot of injuries as well that affected the team and performances and I think in the second part of the season, it looks like they decided to go all-in for the Europa League.

“They made it and you just have to congratulate them because it is another way to go to the Champions League. At the end of the day, I do not know, if you finish 10th, 14th, 15th, 16th and if you get a chance to win a trophy on the other hand, it is just an amazing achievement.

“I was part of a really competitive team for many years and the target was to reach the top four but at which price? We could not find a way to win a cup, a league cup or even a Europa League cup but we managed to go and get the top four for many years. I do not know, it is all about the optics of the club.”

Thomas Frank era begins at Spurs after Postecoglou sacking

Tottenham Hotspur have since appointed Thomas Frank to lead them into a new era following the sacking of Postecoglou.

The Danish manager comes in with a reputation of being tactically astute, with his ability to adapt and change his approach depending on the team he is up against being one of his top qualities.

Description

Aaron Lennon becomes the latest former Tottenham player to publicly back Thomas Frank at Spurs, with the former winger also sending a message to Bryan Mbeumo amid the Spurs and Manchester United transfer saga.

Tottenham Hotspur have got their hands on their first-choice managerial target this summer, following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou on June 6.

Thomas Frank comes into the Spurs dugout as a manager with a growing reputation, given the tremendous work he did during his time at Brentford, where he established the West London club as a constant Premier League team since taking charge back in 2018.

Of course, given his achievement, the Dane has also earned the respect of some of his peers, with Pep Guardiola coming out last year to praise Thomas Frank and his Brentford side, labelling them hard to beat.

Aaron Lennon backs Thomas Frank appointment at Tottenham

Jermaine Defoe was also quick to state that Frank is the perfect manager for Tottenham, while Christian Eriksen has backed his compatriot to succeed at Hotspur Way.

Another former Tottenham player, Aaron Lennon, has now opened up on what he thinks about the appointment of the Dane this summer.

The 38-year-old was quick to state that being a Spurs head coach is entirely different to being a Brentford manager, but still he believes that Frank is a smart appointment.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He said, speaking to TalkSport from 5:50: “Yeah, well, I said he ticks all the boxes for Tottenham. It is a difficult one because Brentford and Spurs, no disrespect to Brentford, it is a completely different ball game.

“It is a completely different football club. But I think, like I said, he has earned his stripes, so to speak. And I think this is the right one. I think it is the perfect one.”

Lennon urges Bryan Mbeumo to choose Spurs over Manchester United

The former winger’s belief that it is a completely different job, being manager at Spurs when compared to Brentford, is one that Wissa believes in too, as Yoane Wissa also warned Frank about the prospect of managing egos in the Tottenham dressing room.

Regardless, the new Spurs boss would back himself to do a solid job at N17. However, while the manager would be hoping to settle into life in north London quickly, transfer talk continues to take precedence, with reports linking Tottenham with a move for Bryan Mbeumo following the appointment of the former Brentford manager.

Lennon was also asked about the transfer saga and the advice he would give to Mbeumo, who has to pick between Tottenham and Manchester United.

The former Tottenham man was quick to tell the 25-year-old to choose Spurs this summer. He added: “If I was him, Spurs I will do… I think, well, firstly it is his former manager which I think will help, and I just think, I do not know, the difficult system with Manchester United is a difficult one.

‘I think to play as him he could play that role, no doubt he could play that role, I think he is brilliant. But I think he is just the perfect match to play in a 4-2-3-1, the way Spurs play. I really think he would suit the thing and I think it would be a great step for him.”

Description

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has shared his thoughts following the club’s Europa League triumph over Manchester United – and he hopes this is only the beginning of a new, successful chapter.

For many Tottenham Hotspur fans, few moments in the past 17 years can top that night in Spain, Bilbao, where they won the Europa League after beating Manchester United 1-0.

A Brennan Johnson toe poke was all that was needed on the night, as Spurs finally got their hands on a piece of silverware for the first time since 2008, when they last won the League Cup.

Several great Tottenham teams and players have come and gone, but ironically, it was the worst Spurs side to play in the Premier League that saw the club end its 17-year wait for a piece of silverware, and their 41-year wait for a European trophy.

Hugo Lloris reacts to Tottenham Europa League win

Of course, that holy grail moment for Tottenham has been long in the making, as several past stars and coaches contributed one way or the other to the most recent success.

One of such stars is Hugo Lloris, who spent 12 years at Spurs, and although he was one of several Tottenham players who went elsewhere to win silverware, the former Spurs captain has now opened up on the club’s recent success.

Lloris was quick to praise this group’s recent achievement, but stated that he hopes this is something they can build on, with the captain believing that if they do, they should be able to compete in multiple competitions.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He said as relayed by the Mirror: “I am really pleased. I am really happy for the club. For the people at the club, for the players. We ran for so many years after this trophy, finally the club got rewarded and it is well deserved.

“Hopefully it will make their shoulders a little bit lighter for the future and I think it is also the moment to build on this success for Spurs. Even if I am not a Spurs player, I still follow the news, the team and the results.

“I think Ange Postecoglou deserves a lot of credit, the players as well, it is not easy to win that kind of competition. It is also another way to get the Champions League.

“There was a lot of frustration and disappointment about the Premier League season but at the end, the last few years everybody was talking about trophies and finally they got one so that is really good. I hope now they are going to build a momentum and get even more competitive in all the competitions they are involved in.”

Spurs must now build under Thomas Frank

Indeed, despite Postecoglou delivering a piece of silverware to Hotspur Way, the manager has since been sacked by chairman Daniel Levy, following his poor Premier League campaign, which had him finish fourth from bottom, after losing 22 matches in the English top flight.

Following his dismissal, Tottenham have since appointed Thomas Frank as head coach to lead them into a new era where they would be hoping to compete on multiple fronts and, of course, add more pieces of silverware to their trophy cabinet.

Description

There has been a lot of debate in the English media over whether James Maddison ranks among the elite in the Premier League, and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers certainly thinks the Tottenham star does.

Maddison has come in for a lot of criticism from pundits for last season, but most Spurs fans will agree that he was one of the club’s best players whenever he was on the pitch.

The 28-year-old will now have to wait to find out if he has a prominent role under new boss Thomas Frank.

Some outlets previously suggested that Tottenham may cash in on Maddison if Postecoglou is sacked, but that appears unlikely given that the attacking midfielder finished the season with a formidable return of 12 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.

Morgan Rogers rates Tottenham’s James Maddison very highly

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers was doing a blind ranking of the best number tens in world football in a TikTok challenge with Puma.

Brazilian legend Neymar took the top place in the Rogers’ list, but his rankings will irritate Arsenal fans as Maddison was placed higher than Kai Havertz.

That suggests that despite being a lightning rod for criticism from pundits, the Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder is still rated very highly by his peers.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Could Maddison be the next Spurs captain?

There is a big question mark over Heung-min Son’s future at Tottenham, with reports indicating that Tottenham could cash in on their captain amidst interest from Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Cristian Romero also continues to be heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and Spurs are waiting to find out if the Argentine will remain with the club after Ange Postecoglou’s sacking.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on one of Antoine Semenyo’s Bournemouth teammates who enjoyed a fabulous season in the Premier League, but the Lilywhites have to break the bank to sign the player amidst intense competition from several Champions League clubs.

Thomas Frank has reportedly identified the key transfer priorities for Tottenham this summer as the Dane looks to rebuild the squad ahead of his first season in charge.

Frank is expected to be given a lot of money to spend this summer, and it has now emerged that he may turn to a player that Spurs were linked with a few months ago.

Back in March, it was reported that Tottenham are interested in Justin Kluivert, who has had an impressive campaign in the Premier League for Bournemouth, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 34 league appearances.

Tottenham will have to spend big to land Justin Kluivert

CaughOffside have now claimed that the Cherries attacking midfielder is indeed one of the names on Tottenham’s wishlist this summer.

The report says that Spurs have ‘entered the conversation’ for Kluivert after scouting the Dutchman extensively and they are now weighing up a move.

According to the outlet, a move to Tottenham Hotspur for the Netherlands international may depend on potential outgoings, with Andoni Iraola’s men demanding €50m–€55m (£42.5m-£46.8m) for the player.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Bournemouth view Kluivert as a key part of their plans and would be under no pressure to sell unless their asking price for the player is met.

Three other Premier League clubs and one Bundesliga side want Kluivert

CaughOffside say that Tottenham are not alone in their admiration of the former Roma man, with Man United labelled as ‘long-time admirers’ of the versatile attacking midfielder.

The Red Devils have kept tabs on Kluivert right from his time in the Eredivisie and they believe that he could thrive in a more fluid setup under Rubem Amorim.

Liverpool have also scouted the Bournemouth star while Eddie Howe has him as a part of his summer wishlist at Newcastle.

Finally, the publication says that Bayer Leverkusen are also keen on landing Kluivert and have already initiated contact with the Cherries regarding a summer deal.

Tottenham Hotspur are pressing ahead with a move for Lazio centre-back Mario Gila, but two of the Lilywhites’ Premier League rivals have had offers sent back for the centre-back over recent days as the Serie A club’s asking price has now come to light.

With Cristian Romero continuing to be linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, it has been reported over recent days that signing a centre-back is one of Thomas Frank’s priorities this summer.

A few days ago, reports from Italy indicated that Tottenham had set their sights on Lazio defender Mario Gila, who has come on leaps and bounds over the last couple of years in Rome.

However, Spurs are expected to face intense competition for the Lazio man, including from two domestic rivals as well as from two of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Chelsea and Bournemouth offers for Tottenham target rejected

This update comes from Il Messaggero, who say that it is not just Tottenham Hotspur who have their eye on the 24-year-old, but also Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Additionally, Chelsea and Bournemouth have not just signalled their interest in Gila, but have submitted bids, which have been turned down by Lazio.

It is revealed that the Cherries made a proposal of €40m (£34m) while the Blues offered €35m (£30m) for the Spaniard, but neither offer was good enough.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham thus have to see off a lot of competition if they wish to bring Gila to N17 this summer.

How much do Lazio want for Gila?

Il Messaggero say that with Maurizio Sarri returning to Lazio this summer, the Italian coach has made it clear that the centre-back is part of his plans.

The 66-year-old has told the Serie A club’s hierarchy that he intends to fix the ‘flaws’ in Gila’s game and has urged them not to sell the player.

Description

At least two different clubs have expressed an interest in signing Bryan Gil this summer, with the winger expected to hold talks with Tottenham Hotspur shortly to iron out his future.

While there have been a lot of rumours about whether various Spurs players will stay or be discarded at the start of the Thomas Frank era, one winger is certainly to leave.

Bryan Gil has confirmed he is departing Spurs, with the 24-year-old now having entered the final year of his contract in North London.

It has been reported that Girona are now unlikely to activate their €15m (£12.5m) option to buy Gil, and last month, some sources suggested that the Spurs winger is generating interest from Saudi Arabia.

Bryan Gil is tempted to swap Tottenham for a return to Girona

AS have now pointed out that the first order of business for the Spaniard this summer is to recover from his injury, which has kept him out of action since March.

The outlet says that Gil is only expected to regain his fitness towards the end of July, following which he will hold a conversation with Tottenham about his future.

The outlet claims that Girona still have him on their radar and the Spurs man is tempted by the possibility of returning to the Catalan club, given that he had the trust of manager Míchel Sánchez last season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the La Liga side have made it clear that they will not pay £12.5m for Gil, thus complicating matters for the player.

European club among many sides interested in Gil

AS assert that the winger will have no shortage of options this summer as ‘many clubs have him on their radar’.

Gil is thus expected to sit down and analyse the offers that come his way over the coming weeks, with one of the offers expected to come from Olympiacos, who are keen on landing the Spain international.

The Greek club are managed by José Luis Mendilibar, who managed Gil at Eibar, and it is suggested that the winger may look favourably at the idea of reuniting with the Spanish coach.

Blow for Tottenham as Victor Froholdt agrees to move to Champions League club - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur may be about to suffer a major transfer blow as Danish starlet Victor Froholdt, who the Lilywhites are allegedly keen on signing, is now edging closer to a move to a Bundesliga side.

It has been reported over recent days that Thomas Frank is prioritising reinforcing the Tottenham midfield this summer.

Over the last few weeks, various outlets have said that Spurs are long-time admirers of 19-year-old Victor Froholdt, who is making waves in the Danish top-flight and is thought to be valued at around £20m this summer.

It emerged last week that Eintracht Frankfurt were ready to challenge Tottenham for Victor Froholdt’s signature, with a transfer battle taking shape between the two sides, both of whom will be competing in the Champions League next season.

Victor Froholdt has agreed to join Eintracht Frankfurt

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now taken to social media to reveal that the German club have now made significant progress in their pursuit of the teenager.

He claims Froholdt has now agreed personal terms with Eintracht on a five-year deal, with the midfielder giving the green light for a transfer to Deutsche Bank Park.

However, Tottenham Hotspur may still have a glimmer of hope of clinching the deal, with Plettenberg making it clear that Eintracht are yet to strike a deal with Copenhagen.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In fact, he claims that negotiations between the two clubs are only getting started.

Why Tottenham may have an advantage in Froholdt pursuit

If Spurs pushed ahead with a move for the Copenhagen man, they might have a decent chance of beating Eintracht to the player’s services.

Given Tottenham’s strong Danish connection, with Johan Lange and now, Thomas Frank, one would think that they would be able to persuade the youngster to move to N17.

However, it is unclear if Froholdt is a priority for Spurs this summer. Based on Plettenberg’s latest update, it does not seem as if the Lilywhites have made a serious attempt to land the Denmark international yet.

Tottenham like Xavi Simons but fans should not get excited quite yet - Spurs Web
Description

Journalist Ben Jacobs has hinted that we may not have heard the last of Tottenham’s interest in Xavi Simons, with RB Leipzig’s star’s next destination still unclear.

According to various reports, Thomas Frank is expected to be backed with big funds this summer as Tottenham aim to build a squad that can cope with the rigours of Champions League football.

Over recent weeks, it has been claimed that the North Londoners are ready to flex their financial muscle in the transfer window by securing a Dutch starlet, who has been making waves in the Bundesliga.

Spurs have allegedly prepared to push ahead with a move for Xavi Simons, who is valued at £67m by RB Leipzig.

Tottenham have not started Xavi Simons talks

Last week, it was reported that Chelsea have entered the race for Simons while Arsenal and Liverpool are also eyeing the player.

That came as a huge blow to Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of landing the 22-year-old, but Ben Jacobs has now said that the Lilywhites have not yet abandoned their pursuit of the Netherlands international.

He explained that Spurs are still contemplating whether or not to push ahead with an offer for the Leipzig star.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “So Simons and Premier League clubs could genuinely be one to watch. And I can confirm that Spurs like the player, but they’ve not started talks. They’ve not decided they’re going to bid yet. And again, keep an eye on the price. We’re going to hear a lot of Xavi Simons stories.”

Will Tottenham make a move for Eberechi Eze?

Simons’s versatility means that he can feature on either flank or as an attacking midfielder in Frank’s setup, but the same is true of another player who has been heavily linked with a move to N17: Eberechi Eze.

It has been reported over recent days that Frank has approved the signing of Eze, who has a release clause of £68m in his contract.

With both players being of a very similar profile and expected to cost the same, it will be interesting to see which of the two Tottenham prioritise this summer.
