Description

Former Tottenham Hotspur scout Mick Brown has revealed whether he expects Brennan Johnson to still be at Spurs at the end of the January transfer window.

It has been widely reported over the past week that Spurs are increasingly tempted to cash in on Johnson, who has started just six Premier League matches since Frank arrived through the door.

Crystal Palace are thought to be leading the race for Johnson, with Oliver Glasner’s men identifying the 24-year-old as the right fit for their forward line.

However, they are not the only side interested, with four other English sides also allegedly exploring moves for the Spurs winger.

Former Tottenham official weighs in on club’s Brennan Johnson stance

Mick Brown is confident that the Wales international is not in the North London club’s long-term plans.

The former Spurs scout is convinced that the 24-year-old will be sold if a decent offer arrives at Tottenham’s table in January.

When asked what he expects to happen with Johnson, Brown told Football Insider: “I’m expecting him to leave Tottenham in January.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“He isn’t part of the manager’s long-term plans, and if they get an offer that works for them financially, it would make sense to move him on.

“I don’t see what he offers to Tottenham at the moment. I don’t think he’s good enough to make any real impact, and that’s why there are question marks about him.”

Mick Brown sends a warning to clubs interested in Johnson

Some sources indicate that Spurs are willing to sell Johnson for just £35m, despite paying £47.5m to sign him from Forest two and a half years ago.

However, even at that price, Brown is not convinced the winger is a worthwhile investment, questioning if he is good enough to play either as a wide player or a striker.

The former Spurs and Sunderland scout added about Johnson: “If I was one of the teams looking at him, I’d have a few concerns as well, because it hasn’t ever really clicked for him at Tottenham.

“They’ll need to know the reasons behind that, maybe the way they play doesn’t suit him, but even under Postecoglou, he didn’t look majorly impressive.

“I don’t think he’s particularly good on the ball for a winger, and I’m not sure he’s effective enough going forward to be a striker, and I think Tottenham share those concerns.

“But it does seem there is interest in him, so from Spurs’ point of view, I think they’ll want to move him on permanently and make some money from selling him.”

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have one area where a new signing is desperately needed when the transfer window reopens.

The January transfer window is almost upon us, and that means Tottenham Hotspur have the chance to make improvements to their squad.

This is clearly necessary, with Spurs sitting 13th in the Premier League and losing matches more often than not.

It would not be surprising if Tottenham add to their midfield next month, but there is an even greater need which has seen Thomas Frank restructure his starting lineup.

Tottenham need a left winger

Few Spurs fans were complaining after the conclusion of the summer transfer window, but there were still feelings of disappointment that the club were unable to secure a left-sided winger.

Fast forward a few months, and the need in this area is so significant that Frank has cut the position entirely from his setup. Instead of the 4-2-3-1 formation, Spurs are lining up in a 4-2-2-2 shape, which makes them lopsided and unimaginative.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Mathys Tel has only been used as a striker this season, Wilson Odobert still has a lot to learn, and Brennan Johnson has failed to inspire Tottenham when he has played. The need for a new left winger is not just desirable – it is urgent.

Spurs must keep their options realistic

Tottenham have stopped pursuing Antoine Semenyo because the Bournemouth forward is more interested in a move up north. Clearly, Spurs are not in a good enough position to pull off this type of transfer.

The January window only lasts a month, so the club must act hastily to fill the void in the Tottenham first-team squad.

This means targeting players who are likely to accept a move to North London, even if certain sections of the fanbase brand this as a lack of ambition.

Tottenham icon says Mo Salah remains a level below Gareth Bale as a Premier League great

Tottenham icon says Mo Salah remains a level below Gareth Bale as a Premier League great - Spurs Web
Description

Former Tottenham midfielder Sandro has waded into the debate regarding the greatest individual performers in Premier League history, suggesting that a current Mo Salah still has work to do before he can be considered on the same level as Spurs’ Gareth Bale.

Tottenham Hotspur have seen several elite players take to the pitch in North London in recent years, with the club consistently producing or hosting some of the most recognisable names in world football.

During the previous campaign, one such legend in Heung-min Son moved on to join LAFC as he began to slowly edge towards the conclusion of a remarkable top-level playing career.

Harry Kane is another notable figure who progressed through the ranks at Spurs to eventually become the greatest goalscorer in the history of the club, establishing himself as one of the most lethal finishers the Premier League era has ever seen.

Before the emergence of the prolific partnership between Kane and Son, Tottenham Hotspur also boasted the talents of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, both of whom were superstars in North London and beyond.

Sandro explains why Mo Salah has not surpassed Gareth Bale

The Premier League has played host to a multitude of world-class talents throughout its history, and Mohamed Salah certainly falls into that category after his performances for Liverpool.

Last season, the Egyptian forward almost single-handedly dragged the side under Arne Slot to a league title, further cementing his status as one of the most productive attackers in the modern game.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro believes that the Liverpool man has still not reached the heights achieved by Gareth Bale during his peak years in England.

Speaking to Boyle Sports about the impact of the Welshman, the Brazilian explained that while Mohamed Salah is exceptional, he does not believe the winger has overtaken the standard set by Gareth Bale for the best individual season in the history of the competition.

Sandro told Boyle Sports: “Did Mohamed Salah overtake Gareth Bale for best season in Premier League history last season? No. Sorry, Salah.

“I’m so proud that I was on the same pitch as Gareth Bale and Luka Modric too. That squad we had. I enjoyed it so much but especially with Bale. Bale smashed everyone.

“Whether we were having a good game, a bad game, we knew, everyone in the squad knew, just pass to Bale. If we were in a good moment we passed to Bale and said Bale, do your trick!

“If we were in a bad moment we passed to Bale. Bale, do your trick! It was similar for Liverpool last year with Salah but I would say that Bale had more to his game, more running, and taking the ball from very deep, and he had a free kick on him.”

How Spurs’ Bale and Mo Salah compares

Sandro is correct in his assessment that Gareth Bale was perhaps the more complete all-round player, possessing the physical and technical attributes to virtually do everything on a football pitch.

The Welshman was versatile enough to excel as a full-back, a wide forward, and a traditional wide midfielder, maintaining a world-class level of performance in each of those distinct roles.

Mohamed Salah does, however, have the incredible statistics to back up his consistent performances for Liverpool over the years.

The attacker currently ranks third in the all-time Premier League scoring charts and is now just five goals away from overtaking Harry Kane to move into second place, which is a testament to his remarkable longevity in the top flight.

However, despite the prolific nature of the Liverpool forward, Gareth Bale holds a significant advantage in terms of silverware, having secured multiple Champions League titles during his career.

Most notably, he won one of those trophies directly against the Liverpool side of Mohamed Salah, scoring a stunning overhead kick in the process to settle the tie in favour of his team.

Description

A former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has backed the verdict of Luka Modric regarding the managerial standing of a former boss.

The managerial situation at Tottenham Hotspur is something that often comes into question, particularly given the high volume of managers to have held office in North London over recent years.

Under former chairman Daniel Levy, Spurs hired and sacked 15 different managers, including a couple of high-profile names who arrived at the club with significant reputations.

While Mauricio Pochettino is widely regarded as one of the most successful managers of the modern Tottenham generation, other established figures such as Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho have also graced the Spurs dugout.

However, one former Tottenham midfielder has now opened up on who he considers to be the best manager he played for during his time with the club.

Sandro says Harry Redknapp is one of the greatest managers at Tottenham

Sandro has spoken to Boyle Sports about the managerial qualities of Harry Redknapp, aligning himself with comments previously made by Tottenham legend Luka Modric.

He explained that Redknapp was a master of man-management who knew exactly how to handle a dressing room, alternating between a firm approach and a friendly demeanour to get the best out of his squad.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking about the former Spurs boss, Sandro told Boyle Sports: “Harry is exactly as Modric said, one of the greatest managers. Harry was always so comfortable in the dressing room and with managing the players.

“Sometimes he will shout at you but another time he will be so warm and friendly and he just knew the way to talk with the players. We will fight sometimes but after it will be OK and I think he managed that team very, very well.”

The Brazilian then placed Redknapp alongside some of the biggest names he has worked with throughout his career at both club and international level.

He added: “Harry is in the top three managers of my career. I had De Zerbi who was the coach at Brighton and I had Tite at the national team in the Brazil national team.

“He was the one that bought me in from the academy and put me into the team. But it was not just Harry. He had good guys around him as well. Kevin Bond, Joe Jordan and Clive Allen. He built a good team around himself.”

Spurs must return to the expressive style used by Harry Redknapp

Sandro also believes that modern football has become overly reliant on rigid systems and expressed a desire to see more managers who encourage players to play with freedom.

The Tottenham icon suggested that the game would benefit from moving away from restrictive tactical rules that prevent individuals from truly expressing their natural talent on the pitch.

Speaking on the need for more creative freedom in the modern game, Sandro continued: “I will say that Harry was one of the best to play guys and just tell them to go out and express themselves, and I think we need more of that type of manager today.

“I think football is changing. I do not like the managers who set too many rules on the pitch. Football is not about all these systems saying no you cannot cross this line or you must be here or there.

“You should enjoy it, express yourself. Be safe in some areas but just play football! I think we need to bring back the Number 10s. It will make it more beautiful again.”

Description

A new report has shed light on Brennan Johnson’s stance on swapping Tottenham Hotspur for Crystal Palace in the January transfer window.

It has been widely reported over recent days that Crystal Palace are eyeing a January deal for Johnson, who has found starts hard to come by under Thomas Frank at Spurs this term.

Although as many as five Premier League clubs want the Tottenham winger, one clear front-runner is emerging.

The Eagles are the club with the most advanced interest in Johnson, and it has now been revealed what the 24-year-old is thinking about a move to South London.

Brennan Johnson is ready to swap Tottenham for Crystal Palace

TEAMtalk say that Palace are now growing ‘increasingly optimistic’ about landing the former Nottingham Forest man in January.

It is revealed that agreeing on personal terms with Johnson will not be a problem for the South London club, with the player willing to make the move.

Oliver Glasner has identified the Spurs man as the ‘ideal addition’ for his forward line, with the Austrian coach wanting a versatile attacker with pace to burn.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The report says that staying in London is ‘an attractive factor’ for Johnson, who is eager to get consistent minutes under his belt ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which Wales can qualify for through the playoffs.

What is Spurs’ stance on selling Johnson?

TEAMtalk say that Tottenham are open to sanctioning the 24-year-old’s departure next month, either on loan or permanently.

This is because Thomas Frank wants to reshape his attacking options and add reinforcements to his forward line.

It is suggested that the Lilywhites want to recoup a significant portion of their outlay on Johnson, and that a fee in the region of £30m-£40m may be accepted depending on the structure of the agreement.

Chelsea are ready to join Tottenham in the race to sign 20-year-old English midfielder - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur may have competition to contend with from one of their fiercest rivals for a highly rated Premier League midfielder.

Some sources have claimed that discussions are ongoing at Spurs about adding another central midfielder to their squad in January.

It has been suggested over recent weeks that Tottenham may pounce on an opportunity to sign an England international, who is currently struggling for game time at his club.

Tottenham are reportedly set to reignite their interest in Kobbie Mainoo after failing to get a deal over the line for him in the summer.

The Lilywhites have been boosted by the news that Mainoo is keen to leave Old Trafford in search of regular game time, but a new update has made the pursuit of the midfielder more challenging for Thomas Frank’s side.

Tottenham face competition from Chelsea for Kobbie Mainoo

Spurs may have competition to deal with from Chelsea, who are also big fans of the Man United man.

This is according to Flashscore, who say that the Blues are keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old’s situation as they look to bolster their options in the middle of the park.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Chelsea have monitored Mainoo for a long time and believe that they would have a chance of signing the youngster in January.

While Enzo Marseca’s men also hold an interest in Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton, the United academy graduate is seen as a ‘more attainable option’ by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.

Man United’s stance on Spurs target Mainoo revealed

Flashscore say that despite Ruben Amorim’s reluctance to play the midfielder, the Red Devils are not actively looking to sell him.

Mainoo has requested to leave the club in January, but as things stand, the Manchester club are not agreeing to the player’s request.

However, the outlet adds that United would be willing to revisit the situation in January if they manage to bring another midfielder through the door.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are turning their sights towards a highly-rated Italian international, but a deal for him will not be easy to complete.

It has been reported that Spurs are keen on signing a left-sided centre-back in January to serve as a backup for Micky van de Ven.

This is despite the fact that Thomas Frank has Kevin Danso, Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies as backups for his two starting centre-backs.

It has now emerged that the Lilywhites may be willing to demonstrate their financial muscle by landing one of the best defenders in Italy.

Tottenham batting three other clubs for Inter Milan star

According to Fichajes, Spurs have expressed an interest in signing Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni in January.

The outlet says that Tottenham have closely monitored the player, who has been recommended to the club by their sporting director Fabio Paratici. He is said to be a great admirer of the 26-year-old’s quality and temperament.

However, Spurs face competition from Chelsea and Barcelona, who both have Bastoni high on their wishlist.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Additionally, Al Hilal are plotting a move for the Italy international and are not giving up even though the player turned down a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer.

Would Inter be open to selling Bastoni?

Fichajes say that the feeling at Inter is that losing the centre-back would be ‘a critical blow to their aspirations’ this season.

Additionally, the player is thought to be very happy at the San Siro. However, the financial pressures at the club are ‘reaching unprecedented levels’, which may force the Serie A side to cash in.

Tottenham eyeing January move for USA international who could cost £35m - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are one of several Premier League clubs eyeing a move for a 26-year-old USA midfielder in January.

Spurs are currently without Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma, who were both away at the African Cup of Nations, with Senegal and Mali, respectively.

According to reports, Bissouma could find himself heading out of the exit door in January, which potentially means that the Lilywhites may look to strengthen in the middle of the park.

A Premier League number six has now caught Tottenham’s attention, but the Lilywhites are not the only club watching the player.

Tottenham want to sign Bournemouth star Tyler Adams

According to a report in CaughOffside, Tyler Adams is now emerging as a notable name for Spurs and other clubs ahead of the January window.

The Bournemouth star has grown steadily as a player since moving to the South Coast in 2023, and his displays this season have been closely watched by analysts and scouts.

Tottenham are ‘keeping a close watch’ on Adams, with Thomas Frank’s side seeing him as a ball-winning midfielder well suited to quick transitions and high-intensity pressing systems.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Cherries are aware of the growing interest in Adams and could be willing to sell him for a fee in the region of €30m-€40m (£26.2m-£35m).

Spurs face plenty of competition for Adams

CaughtOffside say that the USA international is also on the radar of Man United, who want to strengthen their midfield, while Chelsea are also keeping an eye on him.

Newcastle United and West Ham are also gathering detailed reports on Adams, while Inter Milan and AC Milan view him as a cost-effective option.

However, the outlet adds that unless there is a big offer in January, the 26-year-old appears more likely to depart the Vitality Stadium next summer.

Tottenham Hotspur fan favourite Dele Alli has sent a big hint on social media regarding his next move in football.

The attacking midfielder continues to be adored by Spurs fans, with the Dele Alli chant still being heard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on occasions.

The Tottenham Hotspur faithful have been rooting for the 29-year-old to rediscover his mojo, but he has had several failed attempts to kickstart his career over the last few years.

The England international is now a free agent after being released by Como in the summer, but he could now be about to sign for a new club.

Tottenham hero Dele Alli hints at move to Serie A club

The midfielder has now taken to Instagram stories to post a cryptic hint about his next destination.

In Dele’s latest post, he is seen wearing purple shorts, and the post contains three purple hearts. Some fans believe they have cracked the code on where he is headed.

Fiorentina, who play in purple, are currently struggling in Serie A and are in desperate need of a creative injection. It looks like the former Spurs man could be the player La Viola turn to as they aim to move themselves off the bottom of the table.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Dele has got just reward for his effort and patience

It was reported in the summer that three Championship clubs had expressed an interest in signing Dele as a free agent, but he decided to remain patient.

If the midfielder does get another opportunity in Serie A, Tottenham fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that he can make the most of it this time.

Tottenham are too late in the January transfer market, and it hasn’t even opened yet - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to invest more into the first-team squad under the next generation of the Lewis Family, but some things matter more than wage offerings and transfer fees.

Tottenham Hotspur have a reputation for being tough negotiators in the transfer market. This has often worked in the club’s favour, as Daniel Levy worked to collect additional funds on outgoing players

However, the ex-chairman’s desire for a good cash flow sometimes did Spurs more harm than good, as it meant missing out on potential signings. Spending weeks negotiating a cut-price deal for Eberechi Eze is an incident which comes to mind.

With Levy now gone, the Lewis Family indicated they would end his transfer policy and spend more on player wages. Unfortunately, this does not mean Tottenham will have success bringing top-class players to North London.

Antoine Semenyo rejected Tottenham despite a good offer

Spurs have once again been linked with Antoine Semenyo in recent weeks. It was even said that Tottenham were willing to shatter their wage structure to sign the Bournemouth winger.

Despite this, Semenyo has rejected a move to Spurs because there are more attractive options on the table. It is all well and good being willing to spend now, but other teams already were.

The Lewis Family might be attempting to bring changes to the way Tottenham operate, but it is too little too late, at least for now.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs must focus on getting back to the top

Tottenham’s past negligence towards their squad has ultimately seen the team regress on the pitch. The club finished 17th in the Premier League table last season and are not doing much better this time around.

Being willing to spend more on wages is good, but a reality check is needed to understand that time is required for Spurs to become an attractive destination again.

No top player will want to join a team sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League, and this issue must be resolved before Tottenham can think about any big-name signings.

If the Spurs owners are willing to spend big in the long-term, they could eventually make strong statement signings. However, the club are not currently in a position to convince such players to make the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium their home.
