Description

After watching his old side claim a 2-1 win over his Everton team, David Moyes believes West Ham have a key advantage over Spurs in the relegation battle.

The Hammers and Tottenham Hotspur both won in dramatic scenes at the weekend.

West Ham were set to go four points clear of Tottenham as they led Everton 1-0 while Roberto De Zerbi’s side were toiling 0-0 at Wolves.

But when Spurs nicked what turned out to be a winner in the 82nd minute and West Ham conceded an equaliser moments later, that all changed.

Moyes says West Ham have edge over Spurs in relegation battle

Suddenly the Irons were back in the relegation zone on goal difference.

That was until Callum Wilson pounced to spoil David Moyes’ West Ham return and birthday celebrations as he netted a 92nd minute winner.

How will the Premier League table look when it’s all said and done? 🤔

West Ham are in a precarious position with 4 games to go! 😬

It means West Ham still have survival in their own hands after the vital win over the Toffees at the London Stadium.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

The status quo is maintained for now and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side know they just need to match Tottenham’s results in the last four matches to stay in the top flight.

Everyone has been having their say on who has the tougher run-in, predicting results of games to come, the likely final points totals and who will ultimately secure Premier League safety.

And now Moyes says West Ham have a key advantage over Spurs in the relegation battle after having a front row seat to see the Hammers for himself at the weekend.

The Scot is desperate to see his old club stay up and believes they have shown they can by beating his Everton team, who have been no pushovers on the road this season.

Moyes also believes the major edge they have over Tottenham is ‘momentum’.

Moyes says West Ham have momentum to beat Spurs to survival

“I think West Ham have got momentum and, in the Premier League, you need to keep it going,” Moyes said after watching his team lose to the Hammers.

“We (Everton) came with a brilliant away record; we’ve not lost too many away from home.

Do you believe NOW in the ‘Great Escape’? 🤯

“But West Ham have got a wee bit of momentum going and they need to keep it going.”

West Ham can actually even afford one less result than Spurs, who are two points below them but have a superior goal difference.

West Ham’s owners have voiced their big Tottenham fear ahead of the final four games.

Although matchwinner Wilson insists the West Ham dressing room is less concerned after that Spurs win.

Nuno will be desperate to keep the momentum Moyes is talking about when West Ham go to Brentford on Saturday.

The Bees have won just once in their last seven games but still have a European place to play for.

A win for the Hammers would increase the gap on Tottenham to five points, piling pressure on their tough trip to face Aston Villa on Sunday.

Survival hopes have also been boosted after Spurs were hit by new double injury blow with confirmation Xavi Simons is out for the season and Dominic Solanke will also likely miss the run-in.

West Ham’s owners have voiced their big fears about Tottenham Hotspur as the battle for Premier League survival intensifies heading into the final four games.

It is a case of ‘as you were’ in the Premier League relegation tussle after wins for West Ham, Spurs and Nottingham Forest over the weekend.

Many felt Forest’s big 5-0 win at Sunderland made them safe – but the Hammers and Tottenham kept the pressure on with victories over Everton and Wolves respectively.

West Ham still have survival in their own hands after a 92nd minute winner over the Toffees at the London Stadium.

West Ham owners have Spurs worry ahead of Villa clash

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side know they just need to match Tottenham’s results in the last four matches to stay up.

In fact West Ham can even afford one less result than Spurs, who are two points below them but have a superior goal difference.

How will the Premier League table look when it’s all said and done? 🤔

West Ham are in a precarious position with 4 games to go! 😬

Being the hunted rather than the hunters brings a different pressure.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Especially as West Ham have spent so long as the latter, closing a 13-point gap on Tottenham to overhaul them recently.

The world and its wife have been having their say on who has the tougher run-in, the likely final points totals and who will ultimately secure Premier League survival.

But West Ham owners have voiced their big Spurs fear while setting the target they believe will be needed to beat their rivals to survival.

The Hammers go to Brentford next Saturday with a massive opportunity to pile pressure on Tottenham Hotspur.

Hammers board believe 43 points could be needed to survive

If Nuno’s side beat the Bees, who have won just one of their last seven games, then West Ham will find themselves five points ahead of Spurs, who then face a tough-looking trip to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Hammers hierarchy are concerned Villa may be somewhat distracted when they play Tottenham, though.

Do you believe NOW in the ‘Great Escape’? 🤯

Watch the highlights here! 👇

Speaking exclusively to Hammers News, the senior spokesman for West Ham’s owners said the fact Villa’s game against Spurs is sandwiched by the two legs of their Europa League semi-final clash with Forest is a worry.

The board also made it clear how many more points will be needed for West Ham to survive – and it means they believe Leeds and Forest are still in the mix too.

“It was a must-win (against Everton) and to do it in the last minute was brilliant but nerve-wracking, especially with Spurs scoring late at Wolves,” the top senior spokesman for West Ham’s owners exclusively told Hammers News.

“But we hope Aston Villa are not distracted by Europe (when they play Tottenham).

“One club might need a record number of points to stay up.”

That means West Ham’s owners believe it could take as many as 43 points to stay in the Premier League this season.

And Hammers fans will be well aware their club holds the record for the team relegated from the Premier League with the most points – 42.

There is plenty of positivity for the Hammers, though.

Villa are also in a fight to secure Champions League qualification via the league so Unai Emery will be taking their Prem games seriously.

West Ham’s survival hopes have been boosted by a double Spurs injury blow as their rivals’ win at Wolverhampton Wanderers came at a heavy cost.

West Ham hero reveals dressing room reaction to Spurs finally winning - Hammers News
Description

The importance of Callum Wilson’s late winner for West Ham against Everton was made clear as word filtered through that Tottenham had won their first game of 2026.

The battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League intensified as West Ham and Spurs won on Saturday.

Dramatic scenes unfolded as West Ham went from a scenario where they were set to go four points clear of bitter rivals Tottenham to being back in the relegation zone and then out of it again in the space of 10 minutes.

The Hammers led Everton 1-0 while Spurs were toiling at 0-0 against already relegated Wolves.

Wilson admits West Ham players looked for Spurs result

Tottenham scored in the 82nd minute only for West Ham to concede an equaliser moments later, putting them back in the bottom three with Spurs above them.

But up stepped second half substitute Callum Wilson to score a vital late winner in the 92nd minute to keep the Hammers above Spurs and with survival in their own hands.

Agree with our West Ham ratings? 🌟

It was Wilson who scored in the dying moments of the game which turned West Ham’s fortunes around back in January as they beat Tottenham 2-1 in north London.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

There was more relief than joy when the final whistle blew on West Ham’s win over Everton given Tottenham had also won.

Roberto De Zerbi vowed Spurs could win their remaining five games and his side just about kept his pledge alive.

But how did news of Tottenham finally winning a league game for the first time in four months go down with their rivals?

Wilson has revealed the West Ham dressing room reaction to Tottenham beating Wolves.

It is clear the Hammers were well aware of the result once they got back in the changing room.

Tottenham win has not rattled West Ham’s nerves says Wilson

However, it does not appear to have nerves jangling or minds rattled.

Nuno Espirito Santo has insisted his players are focused on what they can control rather than Tottenham’s results.

While Wilson admitted that’s not quite the case, West Ham remain in the zone for staying out of the drop zone.

“The most important thing is obviously the three points, but of course I’m delighted to get on the scoresheet, and in the manner that it happened as well,” Wilson told West Ham TV.

“Tottenham took care of their result as well as us.

“So we go into next week the same way and we keep building on what we’re working on…

“Like I said we’re all together, we’re in it as one, and we’ll give everything we can in each game to get the job done.”

Wilson and his teammates have the chance to pile pressure on Spurs next weekend.

West Ham’s survival hopes have been boosted by a double Spurs injury blow as their rivals’ win at Wolves came at a heavy cost.

Nuno’s side go to Brentford on Saturday where a win would increase the gap on Tottenham to five points before they face a tough trip to Aston Villa on Sunday.

West Ham survival hopes boosted as Spurs are hit by new double injury blow - Hammers News
Description

West Ham have had their survival hopes boosted by a crucial win over Everton while victory for relegation rivals Spurs at Wolves came at a huge cost.

There was no shortage of drama as West Ham beat Everton 2-1 at the London Stadium while Tottenham Hotspur picked up their first league victory of 2026 at Wolves.

While Spurs were still 0-0 at Molineux, Tomas Soucek put West Ham in front with a superb header from a corner.

That had the Hammers four points clear of bitter rivals Tottenham, leading to taunts from Wolves fans who chanted ‘Nuno’ at the travelling north London contingent having been manager of both clubs in the past.

Advantage West Ham as two more key Spurs stars injured

There were ripples around the London Stadium when news came through of Tottenham’s 82nd minute goal from former West Ham target Joao Palhinha.

The Stratford arena then fell into a deathly silence as Everton equalised just minutes later, putting West Ham back in the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference.

And the Toffees were threatening to make things even worse by pushing for a winner. However, it would be the Hammers who got it as Wilson scored in the 92nd minute to deafening celebrations from the home crowd.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Ultimately, West Ham’s win was all the more crucial given Tottenham picked up all three points.

Not least because it keeps survival in West Ham’s own hands with four games to go.

Tottenham were somewhat fortunate to secure the win over already relegated Wolves.

But the real story was the big name stars who could now miss key games for Tottenham after Roberto De Zerbi was rocked by a double injury blow.

Striker Dominic Solanke and key playmaker Xavi Simons both went off with serious-looking injuries.

West Ham, Solanke and Simons add to De Zerbi’s Spurs woes

Solanke went off with a hamstring strain while Simons suffered a knee injury.

The Dutchman went down after a challenge with Hugo Bueno and was in visible pain, remaining on the turf while receiving treatment.

Has Tomas Soucek silenced his doubters for good with THAT Everton goal?

Not a bad way to celebrate Prem start number 200…

He tried to play on but then collapsed in agony and medical staff called for a stretcher to take him off.

Numerous football sites are reporting it is unlikely Simons, who left the field in tears, will feature again this season.

Meanwhile Solanke, who has a history of hamstring injuries, is also reportedly now doubtful for the remaining matches.

Tottenham have suffered with injuries all season and lost captain Cuti Romero for the rest of the season recently while former Hammer Mohammed Kudus suffered a setback which ended his campaign too.

Destiny Udogie has also picked up an injury to add to De Zerbi’s woes.

Meanwhile, West Ham appeared to escape unscathed from their win over Everton.

The Hammers have a trip to Brentford next Saturday while Tottenham have to go to Champions League chasing Aston Villa without both Simons and Solanke.

It is most definitely advantage West Ham in the relegation dogfight as the issues mount in north London.

Tomas Soucek says West Ham have one major survival advantage over Tottenham

Tomas Soucek says West Ham have one major survival advantage over Tottenham - Hammers News
Description

There is a growing narrative that Tottenham Hotspur will turn it on at just the right time to win the fight with West Ham for Premier League survival – but Tomas Soucek isn’t so sure.

It is now a straight shootout between bitter rivals West Ham and Spurs over who stays in the Premier League.

Both Leeds and Nottingham Forest have made themselves safe in the last week, leaving Nuno Espirito Santo’s Hammers and Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham in a literal fight to the death over the final five games.

De Zerbi has warned West Ham that Spurs will win all their remaining games ahead of a trip to already relegated Wolves while the Irons welcome European-chasing Everton and former boss David Moyes to the London Stadium.

Soucek says West Ham have edge over Spurs in relegation battle

West Ham have been deemed to have the tougher run-in on paper but have the far superior form given Tottenham have not won a single league game this year.

But while De Zerbi is vowing his team can have a perfect end to the season, Tomas Soucek believes it is very much advantage West Ham in the Premier League survival battle.

Out of 10, how confident are you that West Ham will stay up? ⬆️

Nuno is feeling good! 🤩

West Ham are two points ahead of Spurs with five games to go.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

But if Tottenham beat Wolves and West Ham fail to secure a victory over Everton, then Nuno’s men will drop back into the relegation zone with four matches remaining.

On the flip side, a West Ham win coupled with a shock Tottenham defeat might just be what seals safety for the east Londoners.

The stakes have never been higher but many pundits, journalists and fans believe Tottenham will pull it off.

According to Soucek, though, West Ham have a crucial edge over Spurs – because it is in their hands.

The big Czech midfielder says that is the single most important factor in the relegation battle and is determined to keep it that way.

West Ham have control of relegation destiny says Soucek

“I am very happy that it’s in our hands,” Soucek told West Ham’s website.

“That’s the most important thing and we want to keep it that way until the end. I can’t say how many points we need, but we have to go (forward and) now I think only about the Everton match.

Tomas Soucek; Premier League record-breaker!

What is your FAVOURITE Soucek moment?

“We know that we are now playing the final five matches, we know that it’s in our hands, and that’s something we want to do and it’s a big goal for us and for our fans.

“It’s a big game for us at home against Everton and we all want three points from that game.”

If West Ham beat Everton and Spurs lose to Wolves, Nuno’s side will move five points clear of De Zerbi’s north Londoners with four games to play.

A West Ham win and Spurs draw will see the Hammers establish a four-point gap.

There are two outcomes which would take away the big advantage Soucek feels is so important, though.

If the Hammers draw and Spurs win then the two sides will be level on 34 points – but Tottenham have a far superior goal difference that is worth a point – putting survival in their hands over the final four matches.

Should Tottenham win and West Ham lose, Spurs will be one point ahead and would again control their own destiny when it comes to Premier League safety.

What could prove crucial is that West Ham have three of their last five games at home, starting with Everton, while Tottenham Hotspur have three away and two at home.

Three big positives to relegation for West Ham, Spurs and Nottingham Forest

Three big positives to relegation for West Ham, Spurs and Nottingham Forest - Hammers News
Description

West Ham are in a fight with rivals Spurs and Nottingham Forest to avoid relegation to the Championship, but would it really be all that bad?

West Ham and Nottingham Forest have Premier League survival in their own hands as they sit above 18th placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs are relying on the Hammers and Tricky Trees slipping up in the last five games knowing they would have to then take advantage.

Relegation has been painted as a Doomsday scenario for clubs since the advent of the Premier League.

VAR announcement one of the big positives to relegation for West Ham, Spurs and Forest

Falling off the gravy train would clearly be hugely damaging to West Ham, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest financially.

It shaves at least £120-150m off income – although some of the blow will be softened by parachute payments.

Out of 10, how confident are you that West Ham will stay up? ⬆️

Nuno is feeling good! 🤩

Demotion to the Championship is viewed as a complete disaster and a fate almost worse than death – but is it really that bad?

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

There are at least three big positives to relegation for West Ham, Spurs and Nottingham Forest if you look hard enough.

Arguably the best thing about playing in the Championship next season will be the fact there will be no VAR.

VAR is almost universally hated by fans of all Premier League clubs and talks have been held to introduce it to the Championship for next season.

But the good news for West Ham, Tottenham and Forest is that there definitely won’t be any form of VAR in the second tier next season.

BBC Sport says the idea has been ‘closed for the foreseeable future’ and is unlikely to be resurrected by the clubs in a year’s time.

Winning most weeks and expanded play-offs should reassure Hammers, Spurs and Forest

Fans of Prem clubs often say how refreshing it is to play in the domestic cups when there is no VAR.

It would be football back to how it is meant to be played for the club that does drop.

What would you say if Sullivan put West Ham up for sale TODAY?

Let us know in the comments…

Another major positive to being relegated is winning most weeks.

Whoever falls through the Premier League trapdoor out of the Hammers, Spurs or Forest will be favourites to bounce straight back.

After two years of woeful performances and results at West Ham and Tottenham, the feeling of winning week in, week out will become very enjoyable for all involved.

And if the Irons, Spurs or Forest don’t get the wins required to go back up automatically, there is another major positive to being in the Championship next season.

The play-offs have been extended to include six teams instead of four from next season, meaning clubs all the way down to eighth place will be in with a shot of promotion to the Premier League.

It acts as a massive safety net for big clubs like West Ham, Tottenham and Forest who do drop down and have to go through a massive period of adjustment.

Other positive factors to relegation:

Moyes could be missing three top Everton stars on return to West Ham in blow for rivals Spurs - Hammers News
Description

In a potential boost for West Ham and blow to relegation rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Everton could be missing three key players for the David Moyes reunion at the London Stadium.

West Ham welcome their former manager and his Everton side to east London on Saturday for another massive game in their bid for Premier League survival.

At the same time, Tottenham go to already relegated Wolves in what looks the far easier of this weekend’s match-ups in the fight to stay up.

The Hammers sit one place and two points above Spurs after both sides drew last time out.

West Ham boost is Spurs blow as three top Everton stars could miss clash

West Ham know they will stay up if they match Tottenham’s results in the last five games – and can afford one less.

But the stars may just be aligning for Nuno Espirito Santo and the Irons – and it may be bad news for Roberto De Zerbi and Spurs.

If you could STEAL any Everton player, who are you taking?

Vote in our poll below!

Because three top Everton stars could miss the West Ham clash in a blow for rivals Tottenham.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

One key Toffees star definitely out of the trip to West Ham is centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

Three days out from the game against the Hammers, Everton have confirmed Branthwaite sustained a hamstring injury during Sunday’s Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool.

The Toffees pointed out the new injury is unrelated to the hamstring area which the highly-regarded star required surgery on in October.

A scan confirmed no procedure is needed this time around, which is great news for the player but Everton have made it clear Branthwaite is now unlikely to feature again this season.

That does of course mean he will also sit out the game against Spurs on the final day.

Beto could join Branthwaite and Grealish in missing West Ham

Another top Everton player will be missing the West Ham game too, in the shape of Jack Grealish.

Grealish is out for the rest of the season after a stress fracture to his foot required surgery back in January.

Do you feel BETTER or WORSE about West Ham’s survival chances after gameweek 33? 🤔

The Hammers stayed two points clear of Spurs…

Meanwhile Premier Injuries also list hot-and-cold striker Beto as a doubt for West Ham as he is being assessed after picking up a head injury against Liverpool.

While Beto has been something of a figure of fun on Merseyside he does have four goals in three games and so West Ham will be glad not to face a forward in that kind of form.

Tottenham fans will no doubt have one eye on the score from West Ham on Saturday.

Nerves will be jangling in the Spurs camp at Everton potentially being without such influential players.

The Toffees have been suspect from corners and crosses of late, even with Branthwaite in the side.

West Ham meanwhile have looked dangerous from corners with Konstantinos Mavropanos and Axel Disasi posing real threats alongside the likes of David Moyes favourite Tomas Soucek.

If Spurs beat Wolves, West Ham must win to stay out of the bottom three.

Do that and the Hammers will go level on points with Forest if they fail to beat Sunderland away.

Although a vastly inferior goal difference means the Hammers will not leapfrog the Tricky Trees this weekend.

Staying above Spurs is the main objective, though, for now and until the end of May.

How many points do West Ham need? Why only 8 points could relegate Tottenham - Hammers News
Description

West Ham United’s hard-earned 0-0 draw away at Crystal Palace means Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have extended their advantage over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League relegation zone.

Well, ever so slightly.

The Hammers missed the chance to deliver a ‘huge dent’ to Tottenham’s survival hopes in South London. What could have been a four-point gap between 16th and 17th is, with five matchdays remaining, stands at a precarious two.

Do you feel BETTER or WORSE about West Ham’s survival chances after gameweek 33? 🤔

The Hammers stayed two points clear of Spurs…

Yet, West Ham United have the substantial advantage of knowing their fate is in their own hands. Win all of their remaining matches – as unlikely as that may be – and Premier League football will return to the London Stadium in 2026/27.

West Ham United can relegate Tottenham from the Premier League

If Roberto de Zerbi was to lead Tottenham to a staggering run of five successive wins between now and the end of May, Spurs will finish on 46 points.

The highest tally West Ham can finish on is 48.

While the 2002/03 ‘too good to go down’ side were extremely unlucky to be relegated on 42, one suspects that an identical tally would be enough to guarantee survival nearly a quarter of a century later.

The Hammers may need only eight points from fifteen

As their goal difference is inferior to Tottenham’s at this stage, the maximum amount of points West Ham need right now to avoid the drop is 14. Given that there are only 15 to play for, Nuno is probably right when he says the relegation battle will be ‘a fight until the end’.

Jamie Carragher says West Ham need 40 points! Do you agree? 🤔

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

But should Tottenham lose away from home at both Chelsea or Aston Villa – two teams with European aspirations – only eight points from their final five matches will be enough for West Ham.

Opta’s so-called Supercomputer crunched the numbers on Monday night and concluded that West Ham have a 38 per cent chance of relegation at this stage. Tottenham, however, are staring down the barrel with a 57 per cent chance of starting next season as a second-tier outfit.

If Spurs lose even two of their final five matches, home wins over Everton and Leeds, plus a point apiece away at Brentford and Newcastle, will guarantee survival for the Hammers.

Jamie Carragher predicts West Ham and Tottenham’s final five games in relegation battle - Hammers News
Description

After last weekend’s results, the Premier League relegation battle is almost certainly between West Ham and Tottenham.

Nottingham Forest and Leeds’ victories have given them some breathing space with just five games remaining.

The Hammers failed to take a golden opportunity to extend their lead over Spurs to four points by drawing with Crystal Palace.

Premier League legend Jamie Carragher has now predicted both teams’ last five matches in the 2025/26 season.

Where will West Ham finish this season? 📈 And who will be relegated? ⬇️

Mind the gap, Tottenham Hotspur 😂

Jamie Carragher predicts relegation battle between West Ham and Spurs

Jamie Carragher expects West Ham to draw against Everton on Saturday before winning away to Brentford the following week.

He then tipped the Hammers to lose at home to Arsenal, draw away to Newcastle and beat Leeds on the final day.

Those results would give Nuno Espirito Santo’s side eight more points, taking them to 41 points for the season.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Jamie Carragher’s predicted West Ham results

Meanwhile, Carragher has predicted Tottenham to earn their first league victory in 2026 against Leeds next weekend on May 11.

He also believes Spurs will beat David Moyes’ Everton on the final day, but that would still not be enough to survive.

Two draws and a defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge would leave them on 39 points, two below West Ham.

Hammers fans will have their fingers crossed that Carragher’s predictions come true and Tottenham exit the Premier League.

Jamie Carragher suggests West Ham target 40-point mark

Carragher also explained how a Premier League cliché could finally be accurate at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Managers have often spoken about reaching 40 points to be safe from relegation, but that has rarely been the case.

Jamie Carragher says West Ham need 40 points! Do you agree? 🤔

Teams have often stayed up on 35 points recently, whereas that is highly unlikely to be enough for West Ham or Tottenham.

Carragher insisted that either team will genuinely need 40 points to avoid going down due to the close competition this year.

“Well, for a very long time, we’ve laughed at almost every manager saying, ‘We’ve got to get 40 points,’ because you’ve never needed it,” he said.

“This is the season where I think you will need 40 points. I think, if you get 40 points, that will just do it.

“There is still a way to go for some of those (relegation-threatened) teams there, so there is lots to play for.”
