Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has shared an update on midfielder Yves Bissouma as the team prepares for their Premier League match against Brentford.

Bissouma, who has been a key player for Spurs, recently returned from international duty with Mali, where he suffered an injury after scoring in a match against Eswatini.

Postecoglou confirmed that Bissouma has rejoined full training and is being closely observed ahead of the Brentford clash.

Although this was his first session back, the manager suggested that the 28-year-old midfielder could be available for the game, depending on how well he recovers.

Speaking ahead of the game during a pre-match presser, the Australian head coach stated (quotes via Football London):

“Bissouma trained today so he should be available for tomorrow.

“He trained today. He trained fully. It is his first session so we’ll just have to see how he pulls up. But if he’s available, he’s available.”

Since his transfer from Brighton, Bissouma has quickly established himself as a vital member of Tottenham’s midfield.

Last season, he made 28 appearances and featured in every match he was available for, highlighting the trust Postecoglou places in his abilities.

As Spurs look to recover from consecutive defeats, Bissouma’s return could be crucial in helping the team regain their form and push for a better result against Brentford.

His influence in the midfield is expected to play a key role as Tottenham seeks to build momentum and improve their standing in the Premier League.

‘That injury…’: Merson feels 28-year-old’s injury will change Tottenham vs Brentford result

Tottenham Hotspur take on Brentford in the Premier League at the weekend and they will look to bounce back from the defeat against Arsenal in the North London Derby last time out.

They will be desperate to secure Champions League qualification this season and they need to win these games in order to finish in the top four. Brentford are a quality team and Tottenham cannot afford to be complacent. They will have to raise their performance levels in order to win the game.

Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit, Paul Merson has now predicted that Tottenham should be able to win the game. The popular pundit explained that he would have fancied Brentford to win against Tottenham had Yoane Wissa stayed fit.

The 28-year-old attacker will be absent with an injury this weekend and Merson expects it to be a deciding factor.

“I was very disappointed with Tottenham last week and they were also fortunate to go through to the next round of the Carabao Cup,” Merson wrote on Sportskeeda.

“I’d have really fancied Brentford to get the win here, but Yoane Wissa will be a massive miss for them. That injury to him is a huge loss for Brentford.

“Without Wissa in that team, I’d back Tottenham to beat Brentford. Bryan Mbeumo on his own won’t be enough to beat Spurs.”

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can grind out a positive result here. The fans will certainly expect a big performance from the players and they will have to step up and produce a reaction.

Tottenham have been quite inconsistent this season and Brentford will also fancy their chances of getting something out of this contest.

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Javi Guerra from Valencia in the coming months.

According to Fichajes, the 21-year-old central midfielder is valued at €35 million and Tottenham are now ‘preparing a formal offer’ to sign him. However, the North London club are unwilling to meet the asking price.

It will be interesting to see if they can negotiate a more reasonable fee with the Spanish club. Javi Guerra is highly rated in Spain and he is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in La Liga right now. He could develop into a top-class player for Tottenham with the right guidance and it is no surprise that Valencia are demanding a premium.

It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can negotiate a more reasonable fee in the coming weeks. Tottenham need someone who can stitch the play together and control the tempo of the game. The 21-year-old has the technical attributes to do well in English football and he could be a key player for Tottenham. He has the skill set to complement the likes of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

The talented young midfielder needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and he should seek gametime assurance as before, making the move to the London club. He cannot afford to sit on the bench at a big club at this stage of his career.

The opportunity to play in the Premier League can be quite attractive for most players and it remains to be seen whether Guerra is keen on the move.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now confirmed that the North London club looked at Ivan Toney as a potential target earlier this summer.

The former Brentford striker was heavily linked with a move to the North London club and Postecoglou has now revealed in his pre-match presser that Spurs looked at him earlier this summer before deciding to press ahead with a move for Dominic Solanke.

“We did look at him [Toney], but the reality is Dom was the one we wanted that fitted the profile we were looking for at the time,” said Postecoglou.

Toney ended up moving to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli. The England international earns a massive £400,000 a week with the Saudi Arabian club and Tottenham would not have been able to provide him with such a lucrative package.

The former Brentford striker has shown his quality in the Premier League over the years and he could have been a useful acquisition for the club. Solanke was outstanding in the Premier League last season as well, and it remains to be seen whether the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker can transform Tottenham him in the attack.

He is still adapting to his new surroundings and he has not been able to hit top form yet. However, there is no doubt that he is good enough for Tottenham and the fans will be excited to see him flourish in the coming months.

“Tottenham should be looking” – Spurs urged to get rid of player who started against Coventry

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King has urged the club to get rid of Fraser Forster after his impressive performance against Coventry City.

Forster, who is not the second choice goalkeeper at the club behind Guglielmo Vicario started the game for Spurs in the League Cup on Wednesday.

However, his performance has come under criticism after Coventry came close to knocking the North London outfit out of the tournament.

The home team took the lead in the second half and had several more chances to secure their win but failed to convert.

Spurs put on a late fight, scoring two goals in the final few minutes to win the tie.

However, questions have been asked about the goalkeeper’s performance with King claiming that he is not suitable to be the second choice goalkeeper.

Speaking to Tottenham News, King said:

“It looks like it is going to be a long hard season.”

“Spurs weren’t in the game at all. Coventry had chances to kill the game off, but they didn’t, and that is football.”

“The two goals that Spurs scored were very well worked. That is the difference between the Premier League and the Championship. One great pass in the Premier League is two passes in the Championship.”

“As for Forster, I think Tottenham should be looking for a new number-two goalkeeper the way he is.”

It is possible that the club could turn to Brandon Austin as the more regular second choice goalkeeper going forward.

He started on the bench regularly in the latter stage of last season and was a regular feature in the pre-season as well.

Austin also signed a new long-term contract with the club in the summer which would suggest that the club see him as part of their long-term plans.

Tottenham are closely monitoring Portuguese attacking sensation Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP.

The North London club have made significant changes to their approach in the transfer window since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou. They no longer push for stop-gap signings and focus on bringing in young players who can help them in the long run. Tottenham secured the services of three exceptional talents in the recently concluded window as they added Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert to their squad.

Spurs are always on the lookout for players with huge potential and they seem to have found one in Geovany Quenda. According to a report from HITC, the North London club are interested in the services of the Sporting CP graduate and are closely monitoring him ahead of a potential transfer.

At 17, Quenda is already a big talking point in the Portuguese football. He has been a part of the Sporting setup since the summer of 2019. The left-footed winger was promoted to their first team ahead of the 2024/25 season and he has already featured in seven matches for them. He has made an impressive start to his senior career and European giants have already started keeping a close eye on him.

Spurs are interested in Quenda’s services as they feel he could add depth to their attack and eventually become their go-to man on the right flank. While they are tracking his progress, the North London club won’t find it easy to sign him for multiple reasons. Firstly, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are also monitoring his progress and they could rival Tottenham in the race for his signature.

On top of that, he penned down a new three-year deal at Sporting a week back which contains a massive £84 million release clause. The Portuguese club have bumped up the clause to protect his value and ward off suitors. While he is an exciting talent, the termination clause is something that will cause problems for the North London club.

Sky Sports pundit claims Ange must help Tottenham duo ‘get their confidence back’

Jamie Redknapp has hit out at Destiny Udogie and Yves Bissouma for their poor start to the new season.

It has been a tough start for Tottenham in the 2024/25 season. They have only won one out of their four league games and found it difficult to get past Championship outfit Coventry City in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday. Thanks to two late goals, they scripted a comeback win in the cup fixture, but it wasn’t really a pleasing performance from the North London club.

While Ange Postecoglou made several changes to his XI, he still fielded a strong starting lineup that should have dominated the proceedings. Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray made a strong impression in their first start for the club but there were a few who didn’t live up to the expectations. Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp wasn’t pleased with Destiny Udogie and Yves Bissouma in particular. He feels the duo haven’t been performing at the level they did last season.

While speaking on Sky Sports after the EFL Cup fixture, Redknapp said via TBR: “Too many players have gone off the boil. I look at Udogie, he has gone off the boil. Bissouma, the levels he started last season.

“Lots of players haven’t found their form for whatever reason, I can’t put my finger on it. But the manager has to get that back into the players and get their confidence back.

“Get them playing in a way they can flourish because right now they look like they are just having a bit of a moment.”

Before heading into the game against Coventry, Spurs suffered a defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Arsenal. Udogie was one of the few players who was praised for his work in that game. But, overall, he hasn’t delivered the kind of performances he did last season. Redknapp feels he has gone off the boil after being subbed off at half-time against the Championship outfit.

Bissouma who has been the go-to man for Ange Postecoglou in the centre of the park has also struggled to get going this season. The former Spurs star feels Postecoglou needs to get them back to their best if he wants to end the North London club’s struggles.

Report: Tottenham player who started on the bench against Coventry does not have a future at the club

Sergio Reguilon was named on the bench for Tottenham Hotspur’s League Cup match against Coventry City on Wednesday night, marking a notable inclusion after summer-long speculation about his future.

Despite being informed by the club that he was not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the future, Reguilon remained at Spurs due to the club’s inability to secure a move for him, despite interest from several clubs, including Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Reguilon was officially included in Tottenham’s 25-man Premier League squad last week, and his presence on the bench against Coventry suggests that Postecoglou may have reconsidered his stance on the player.

However, according to a report from GiveMeSport, Reguilon still faces an uncertain future at the club and is unlikely to remain at Spurs beyond this season.

The report further indicates that, despite his bench appearance, Reguilon still has significant hurdles to overcome before becoming a regular part of the first-team setup.

Reguilon joined Spurs in 2020 from Real Madrid and initially showed promise. However, he has struggled to secure a consistent starting role due to managerial changes and inconsistent form. Over the past two seasons, he has spent much of his time on loan, with stints at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford.

Reguilon joined Spurs in 2020 from Real Madrid for a €30 million fee and initially showed promise. However, he has since struggled to cement a regular starting position due to managerial changes and inconsistent form.

It’s possible that Tottenham will attempt to sell Reguilon again in the upcoming winter transfer window, aiming to recoup some value rather than letting him leave on a free transfer next summer.

Tottenham Hotspur’s new striker, Dominic Solanke, has experienced a challenging start since his high-profile transfer from Bournemouth.

Former Aston Villa forward and talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has weighed in on how the 27-year-old can overcome these early struggles.

Solanke joined Spurs last month on a six-year contract for a club-record fee of £55 million, with the potential for an additional £10 million in bonuses.

Despite the excitement surrounding his arrival, Solanke has yet to make a significant impact, failing to register a goal or assist in his first few appearances, including two Premier League starts and a Carabao Cup outing against Coventry City.

Agbonlahor, discussing on talkSPORT, highlighted that Solanke may be feeling the weight of expectation that comes with playing for a top club like Tottenham.

The pundit urged the forward to regain his confidence and focus on the qualities that made him so successful at Bournemouth, where he netted 21 goals in 41 appearances last season. (Transfermarkt)

According to Agbonlahor, Solanke needs to be more assertive, aggressive, and actively involved in the attacking third, traits that made him a formidable presence in the Premier League.

The former England player believes that the pressure of adapting to life at Spurs is affecting Solanke, but he remains confident that the striker can thrive once he finds the back of the net.

Agbonlahor remarked:

“You know with Solanke, Solanke has just got to like, have a chat with the manager and just calm down.”

“He looks like he’s… the shirt’s too big for him at the moment.

“Just remember what you did last season for Bournemouth, you were outstanding, think about the things you were doing last season.

“The big advice I’d give him is that you’re a top player and there’s a reason why you were bought for big money.

“At Bournemouth he was a menace, he was bullying defenders and putting his body in the way. Just don’t think to yourself that you are at a bigger club now at Spurs that the pressure is on.

“He just needs that first goal now. Ange needs to keep playing him.”

With manager Ange Postecoglou maintaining faith in Solanke, the upcoming match against Brentford presents a key opportunity for the forward to turn his form around.

Tottenham supporters are hopeful that Solanke can replicate his Bournemouth success and justify his big-money move to North London.

Cristian Romero is refusing to rule out a move to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old Argentine international has been linked with a move to the Spanish club and the La Liga outfit are keeping close tabs on his situation. According to Football Insider, Tottenham are looking to tie him down to a contract extension, but they will have to convince the player of their ambitions before he puts pen to paper on a new deal.

Romero has made 102 appearances for Spurs so far and he is a regular starter for them. The fact that he is not willing to rule out an exit in the near future, will certainly worry the North London club. However, it is no surprise. Romero has already won the World Cup and Copa America with Argentina recently, and he will want to win major trophies at the club level now.

He is a world-class defender who deserves to compete at the highest level. If Tottenham cannot help him fulfil his ambitions, he will look to join a bigger club where there will be better opportunities for him.

Real Madrid could use a central defender like him, and he would be a major upgrade on players like David Alaba. He has proven himself in English football and he is certainly good in enough for La Liga. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Tottenham fans will certainly hope that the club can convince him to sign an extension with them soon. It remains to be seen whether they can secure Champions League qualification and win a trophy this season so that they can convince the player that he is at the right place to achieve his goals.
