Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has come under scrutiny for his recent performances, with former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood offering a critical take on the 27-year-old’s form.

Following Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat in the North London derby last week, Sherwood voiced concerns that Maddison might be playing too conservatively, particularly in midfield, where his risk-averse approach has hindered his ability to create scoring opportunities.

Sherwood, speaking on Premier League Productions, highlighted that while Maddison has shown flashes of brilliance, his tendency to make safer passes has limited his impact in the final third.

The former Spurs boss believes Maddison needs more support from his teammates to regain his confidence and play a more decisive role in Tottenham’s attack.

He said:

“You don’t see boring games with Tottenham anymore, but they need to start winning. You need that clinical edge. I like James Maddison, but he needs some help in there. He’s the only one who has a bit of guile. I’d like to see him pick up the ball behind the midfield in tight areas. He gets a lot of the ball, but he always plays it safe.”

Maddison made a decent start to the Premier League season, contributing two assists in Tottenham’s first two games. However, his form has dipped over the last couple of matches, which coincided with consecutive league defeats for Spurs.

Despite this recent slump, Maddison’s creativity remains crucial to Tottenham’s success, and Sherwood believes that, with the right support, the midfielder can return to being a pivotal figure.

Maddison made an immediate impact when he joined Spurs in 2023, winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for August after registering three goals and five assists in his first nine matches, however his form derailed after suffering an injury against Chelsea. He has struggled to return to his best form since then.

As Tottenham look to regain momentum, Maddison’s ability to unlock defences will be key, and the club will be hoping he can rediscover the form that made him such a vital player early in the season.

Tottenham are seriously considering making a move for former Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes.

That is according to the latest report from GiveMeSport, which claims that Spurs along with Liverpool are showing keen interest in signing him.

Gomes is currently in the final year of his contract with Lille, and he could be available as a free agent next summer, making him an attractive option for teams looking to strengthen their midfield.

Tottenham are said to be particularly interested in the 24-year-old due to his versatility and playmaking abilities, which would provide added depth and creativity to their squad.

While Newcastle are also in the race, they are reportedly seen as outsiders, with Spurs and Liverpool leading the chase for the talented midfielder’s signature.

Gomes’ performances in France have bolstered his reputation, and he earned his first senior England call-up during the recent international break, further elevating his value.

Known for his ability to play in multiple midfield roles, Gomes is most comfortable as an attacking midfielder, often drawing inspiration from players like Bernardo Silva for his dynamic positioning and presence on the pitch.

Last season, Gomes contributed two goals and 10 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions, highlighting his talent.

With 160 senior appearances across Lille, Boavista FC, and Manchester United, Gomes has accumulated a respectable tally of 14 goals and 24 assists.(Transfermarkt)

With Tottenham seeking to build a stronger, more versatile squad under manager Ange Postecoglou, Gomes could be a valuable long-term addition to the team’s future plans.

Inter Milan are considering making a €30 million offer to sign Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the near future.

Guglielmo Vicario made the move to the North London club in the summer of 2023 and he has only gone from strength to strength since. The Italian shot-stopper has hardly taken any time to settle in and has been the go-to man in goal for Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs have struggled with set pieces at times, and the 27-year-old has faced significant criticism for not helping his team in dead-ball situations. But, his overall game has been quite solid and Tottenham consider him an integral part of their plans moving ahead. However, a report from MilanLive suggests Inter Milan are keen on signing the Italian international.

While they do have Yann Sommer in their squad and he still has over 18 months left on his deal, he will be 36 in the summer and Inter want to prepare for the long run. They feel the former Empoli star could easily slot in as their number one and have enquired about his availability. They are looking to knock on the doors of Spurs with an offer worth around €30 million.

The North London club had forked out less than €20 million to sign him from the Serie A last year and Inter’s offer could help them make a significant profit. While the Italian outfit are confident about striking a deal for Vicario, negotiations with Spurs won’t be easy. They consider the 27-year-old an integral part of their plans and won’t let him leave on the cheap. Daniel Levy might look for a bigger fee to sanction the departure of his first-choice goalkeeper.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham have emerged as the strongest suitors for Viktor Gyökeres’ signature.

The North London club forked out a significant amount to bolster their squad during the summer transfer window. Their priority was to sign a new striker and they broke their transfer record to bring Dominic Solanke to the club from Bournemouth.

Despite having forked out £65 million to acquire the services of the former Liverpool ace, Spurs could soon look at the market for another number nine. According to CaughtOffside, Ange Postecoglou’s team have emerged as the strongest suitors in the race to sign Viktor Gyökeres.

The Sporting CP striker, who has been in exceptional form over the last 18 months, has been on Tottenham’s wishlist for a while now, and they could soon make a move to sign him. The Swedish international scored 43 goals in his debut campaign at the Portuguese club and he already has nine goals in the 2024/25 season.

He might have close to four years left on his deal, but Spurs could still look to prise him away. Gyokeres could compete with Solanke for a place in the starting XI and together they could help Postecoglou’s team take the next step.

Chelsea and PSG are also interested in the 26-year-old’s signature as they look for a world-class number nine and they could provide tough competition to Tottenham. But as things stand, the North London club are showing the most interest in the player. He has a £84 million release clause in his deal and it remains to be seen whether Spurs can get the deal done.

Ange Postecoglou delivers bad news for Tottenham, confirming Wilson Odobert’s injury is a significant one.

Spurs came back from a goal down to turn the game around in the dying minutes of the match and win 2-1.

Coventry took the lead in the 63rd minute and were on the verge to cause a major upset. But Djed Spence came to the rescue in the 88th minute, scoring the equaliser with a tidy finish.

And 4 minutes later, Brennan Johnson completed the comeback. The goal would not have been possible without Bentancur’s strong play in the middle who snatched the ball from the opposition before playing the perfect pass for the Welshman who made no mistake with his finish.

While Spurs did come out of the tie victorious, they did suffer an injury blow.

Wilson Odobert who started the match was taken off injured in the first half in what appeared to be a hamstring related issue.

And manager Ange Postecoglou has now confirmed that the injury looks like a fairly significant one. When asked about the injury, he said (via The Athletic):

“Hard to say. Wilson looks fairly significant so we’ll just wait and see.”

This will come as a big blow for Tottenham ahead of what is going to be a busy period with three games in a week including match against Manchester United next weekend.

If the injury is serious as it appears, the exciting winger could be out for a while.

Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to make Cristian Romero the highest-paid player at the club in order to fend off interest from Real Madrid.

According to Give Me Sport, the Spanish giants are keen on signing the 2022 World Cup winner and Tottenham are ready to tie him down to a new deal. It remains to be seen whether Romero is prepared to snub the opportunity to move to Real Madrid and sign a new contract with the Premier League club.

Offering him lucrative wages could certainly help Tottenham convince the player, but they will have to match up to his ambitions as well. They must convince the player that he can win major trophies with them. A player of his quality will want to win league titles and Champions League trophies.

Tottenham have an exciting project and a quality squad. However, they are not quite at the level required to win major trophies. It remains to be seen whether they can improve the squad further in January and end their wait for silverware this season.

Keeping Romero at the club should be one of their priorities. According to reports, the new deal could see him earning around £200,000 a week.

He is one of the best defenders in the world, and he certainly deserves to earn premium wages. Tottenham fans will certainly hope that the club can do everything in their power to sort out his long-term future.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has addressed the recent controversy surrounding a retweet by star defender Cristian Romero, which many saw as a veiled critique of the club’s management.

Following Tottenham’s defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, Romero shared a post from Argentine journalist Gaston Edul that expressed dissatisfaction with Tottenham’s travel arrangements for players returning from international duty.

The post suggested that Spurs were the only Premier League club failing to provide adequate support, which some believe may have disrupted player preparations for the North London derby.

Though Romero quickly deleted the retweet, the damage was done, and the post sparked a heated reaction on social media.

Speaking on Tuesday, ahead of Tottenham’s game against Coventry City, Postecoglou was asked about the situation.

The manager clarified that no concerns were raised about travel logistics before the derby and reassured that all players, including Romero, were back in training by Thursday, well ahead of the Sunday clash.

Ange Postecoglou said (quotes via The Mirror):

“It was mentioned to me [after the game], but it wasn’t mentioned to me before the game. All the players were back by Thursday for a Sunday game. Prior to the game, there was nothing mentioned.”

Romero, despite being one of Tottenham’s key defenders, has faced some criticism this season for his performances.

However, the club hopes to manage the issue internally and keep their star defender focused on upcoming challenges.

Tottenham are ready to battle Premier League rivals for the services of Austrian defensive sensation Samson Baidoo.

Samson Baidoo has had an impressive rise at Red Bull Salzburg, he came up the ranks at some pace and managed to secure promotion to the first team in the summer of 2022. He has gone from strength to strength with every passing season and now finds himself on the wishlist of multiple top clubs from across Europe.

According to a report from HITC, Tottenham are keen on signing the Austrian international and they are willing to battle top-four rivals Manchester City and Newcastle United for his services. The 2023/24 campaign was Baidoo’s breakthrough season at Salzburg. While an injury did trouble him, the 20-year-old made quite a name for himself with his performances and huge potential.

He has been a constant feature for them at the back in the 2024/25 season and the North London club are closely monitoring the defensive sensation ahead of a potential transfer. Despite having Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin in their squad, Ange Postecoglou is keen on having more depth.

Van de Ven has fitness concerns while Romero tends to pick up suspensions every now and then, as a result, the Australian manager seeks more quality options at the back. Baidoo could be an exceptional signing for them as he can provide cover and eventually become one of their mainstays.

While Spurs have been monitoring him for a long while, Manchester City have been scouting him for almost 18 months. Meanwhile, Eddie Howe, eager to strengthen Newcastle’s defence, is also interested in bringing the Austrian international to Tyneside.

Tottenham Hotspur made a late attempt to sign Lecce’s highly-rated left-back Patrick Dorgu during the closing stages of the summer transfer window, according to the outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

Despite their efforts, Spurs were unable to secure the talented defender’s signature. Dorgu, whose market value is reportedly between €30 million and €40 million, caught the attention of several top clubs, including Napoli, AC Milan, and Juventus.

While these teams made approaches for the 19-year-old Danish-Nigerian defender, Lecce decided to hold onto him for the current season. However, the Italian club has informed Dorgu’s representatives that they are open to offers next summer.

The promising left-back, who joined Lecce’s youth academy from Nordsjælland in 2022, has made a rapid rise through the ranks. He debuted for Lecce’s senior team in the recent 2023–24 campaign and has showcased his versatility by not only excelling at left-back but also contributing in midfield and attack on the left flank.

Last season, Dorgu made 34 appearances across Serie A and Coppa Italia, scoring two goals. With his contract running until June 2027, Lecce consider him a valuable asset, but Tottenham may revisit their pursuit of the player in the January transfer windows.

Tottenham are eyeing up a January move for AC Milan attacking sensation Noah Okafor.

Tottenham significantly bolstered their attack in the summer as they extended the stay of Timo Werner and signed Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert. But they haven’t had an ideal start to the new season with just one win in three Premier League outings. Spurs are now considering bringing in further reinforcements in the winter and according to Milan Live, the North London club are looking to step up their pursuit for the services of Noah Okafor.

After making a name for himself at Red Bull Salzburg, the 24-year-old Swiss winger made the move to AC Milan last summer. He has featured in 39 matches for the Italian giants and has contributed towards 10 goals.

While Okafor is an exciting talent who can feature anywhere in attack, the arrival of Alvaro Morata has seen him go down the pecking order at Milan and Spurs are looking to prise him away in the winter.

With Ange Postecoglou at the helm, the North London club want to reinforce their attack and they feel the versatile Swiss international could be an ideal fit for their system. They are reportedly willing to table an offer worth around £17 million, making it quite clear that they are very serious about adding Okafor to their squad.

Milan could see this as an opportunity to book a profit of around £5 million and reinvest the money raised to bring in a player who is a better fit in their system. Spurs are eager to get the deal over the line as they feel the 24-year-old’s versatility could give them the much-needed depth to be competitive in all competitions.
