Tottenham Hotspur edged past Manchester United 4-3 in a pulsating League Cup quarter-final encounter, booking their place in the semi-finals where they will face reigning champions Liverpool.

While the victory brought joy to the Spurs faithful, the London club has already been dealt a blow ahead of the two-legged clash with the Reds.

James Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr to miss Liverpool clash

Midfield duo James Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr will miss the first leg after accumulating their second yellow cards of the tournament during the win against United. Under competition rules, two bookings result in a one-match suspension.

This development leaves manager Ange Postecoglou with a significant midfield headache as he prepares to face an in-form Liverpool side aiming to defend their crown.

Tottenham’s quarter-final clash with Manchester United was nothing short of electrifying. Spurs took an early lead in the 15th minute when Pedro Porro’s thunderous strike was parried into the path of Dominic Solanke, who made no mistake with the rebound.

Dejan Kulusevski doubled Tottenham’s advantage just seconds into the second half with a composed finish, and Solanke added his second minutes later, putting the hosts in a commanding 3-0 position.

However, Manchester United refused to bow out quietly, capitalising on a pair of glaring errors from Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster, scoring twice in 7 minutes.

The momentum was on the visitors side until Tottenham captain Heung-min Son stepped up in the 88th minute to ease nerves, stunning the crowd by scoring directly from a corner.

Despite a stoppage-time header from Jonny Evans that made it 4-3, Spurs held on to secure their spot in the last four.

Tottenham hoping to end their trophy drought

Awaiting Tottenham in the semi-finals are Liverpool, who fielded a youthful side to dispatch Southampton 2-1 in their quarter-final. Spurs will go into the game hoping to beat Liverpool and get one over them after being denied a chance to win the Champions League by them back in 2019.

Spurs are now just one step away from the League Cup final, offering a golden opportunity to end a trophy drought that has plagued the club for over 15 years.

“On his way to North London” – Club insider makes exciting Tottenham transfer claim about defender with a release clause

Tottenham Hotspur could finalise the signing of Getafe CF centre-back Omar Alderete as soon as the January transfer window opens.

That’s according to club insider John Wenham, who believes Spurs can get the 28-year-old through the door as soon as the January transfer window opens.

Tottenham urged to sign Omar Alderete

Speaking to Tottenham News, he said:

“It is good to see centre-backs being linked with the club.”

“If this is true, then the player should be signed by 1 January. He has a release clause, so Tottenham know what the deal is. Have the money transferred by 9 am on 1 January and the player will be on his way to North London.

“I don’t know much about this player. However, I trust our scouting team, they have signed some other lesser-known players who have proven to be good signings, so why can’t they do that again?”

Tottenham’s need to sign new centre-back

Tottenham are in desperate need of a new defender in the January transfer window to help their current crisis at the back.

First choice centre-back duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are both out injured.

Both have had recurring troubles with injuries this season having missed a good chunk of games so far.

Ange Postecoglou surprised everyone when he named the duo in the starting XI against Chelsea during their 4-3 defeat.

But neither of them managed to go through the game without suffering injuries. Romero lasted less than 15 minutes and Micky van de Ven was forced off in the final quarter of the game.

Meanwhile Ben Davies, who stepped up initially in the absence of the aforementioned duo, also picked up a hamstring injury recently ruling him our for a significant period.

Ange Postecoglou has had to play summer signing Archie Gray as a makeshift center-back for the past few games and may have to field the pair again vs Manchester United.

Alderete’s release clause makes him an attainable target, and Spurs fans will hope the club acts decisively to bring him in on January 1.

A new defender at this point has become almost a necessity for Tottenham. But before any January arrivals, Postecoglou will have to navigate crucial fixtures with his depleted squad, including an upcoming clash against Manchester United.

Tottenham are facing a mounting injury crisis, with several key players across the squad currently sidelined.

The latest update from injury expert Dr. Rajpal Brar sheds light on the condition of young winger Wilson Odobert, who underwent hamstring surgery last month.

In defence, Spurs are without Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies, and Destiny Udogie, who picked up an injury during their recent win over Southampton. Djed Spence also limped off after the game, adding to Ange Postecoglou’s defensive woes.

The situation is equally dire in attack. Richarlison remains out of action, while 19-year-old Wilson Odobert has endured a frustrating debut season due to persistent hamstring problems.

Dr. Rajpal Brar, speaking to Tottenham News, provided insight into Odobert’s recovery timeline:

“Considering he had surgery in mid-November, the best-case return would be around the end of February, and the worst case would be another setback during rehab that has him out for significantly longer.”

“At this stage, it may be too early to gauge whether or not he’s on track to return come the end of February.”

“I still do not see him back in training until the start of February.”

Wilson Odobert’s challenging start at Spurs

Wilson Odobert joined Tottenham in August from Burnley for a significant transfer fee, arriving with high expectations. However, his debut season has been plagued by recurring hamstring issues.

The French forward initially missed seven matches earlier in the campaign due to a similar injury. A subsequent setback in late October has kept him sidelined ever since, adding six more games to his absence tally.

Odobert made an impressive start to his Spurs career, showcasing his potential during a 4-0 victory over Everton, but has managed just 182 minutes across five appearances in all competitions.

Tottenham will be eager to welcome Odobert back as they look to reignite their push for a top-four finish. With a decimated squad, Postecoglou faces the challenge of navigating the congested festive fixture list without several key players.

Odobert’s long-term fitness will be crucial not just for this season but also for his development as one of Tottenham’s most promising young talents.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The 26-year-old joined Chelsea in July 2024, but he has struggled for regular game time at the London club. The player is yet to start a single Premier League game for Chelsea and he has been linked with a move away from the club in January.

According to CaughtOffside, clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on his situation and they could be willing to provide him with an exit route next month.

The midfielder needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and sitting on the bench at Chelsea is unlikely to benefit him. He would have expected to play more often when he joined the Blues. He was a key player for Enzo Maresca during their time together at Leicester City, but the Italian manager has not given him opportunities at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham could certainly use a creative midfielder like him who will chip in with goals and creativity. He is capable of operating as a box-to-box midfielder as well as an advanced central midfielder. Tottenham need more depth in the side during the second half of the campaign and the 26-year-old would be a useful acquisition.

It will be interesting to see if the North London club can secure his services for a reasonable amount of money. If Chelsea are unwilling to sell the player permanently midway through the season, a loan move could be ideal for the player as well. He needs to be playing regularly in order to get his career back on track.

Tottenham’s persistent injury crisis has prompted the club to actively seek reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window, with Botafogo’s goalkeeper John Victor emerging as a potential option.

The North London side has grappled with fitness setbacks throughout the season, which worsened when first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario suffered a severe ankle injury during last month’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Manchester City.

Remarkably, Vicario continued playing despite breaking a bone in his ankle, showcasing incredible resilience. However, following surgery, the Italian is now sidelined for a few months, leaving Spurs in need of a dependable alternative.

Tottenham make contact to sign John Victor

According to a report from UOL, Tottenham have already reached out to Botafogo regarding John Victor’s availability and potential transfer terms. They could make a move for him in the coming window.

Competing interest has emerged from Galatasaray and Bahia, but Spurs reportedly leads the race for the 28-year-old’s services.

John transferred to Botafogo in January 2024 from Santos, signing a four-year deal for a reported fee of €1.5 million.

While his debut year has demonstrated his potential, it has also been marred by periodic muscle injuries.

After a two-month spell on the sidelines earlier this season, John made his return during Botafogo’s Libertadores campaign opener in April, reinforcing his reliability when fit.

Although he is contracted to Botafogo until 2027, uncertainty about his future has paved the way for a possible transfer. As per the report, the club are expected to receive offers for him in ‘coming weeks’.

Known for his consistent displays and strong presence in goal, John has caught Tottenham’s attention as they search for a short-term solution to their goalkeeping dilemma.

With the experienced Fraser Forster currently covering for Vicario, Spurs could benefit significantly from John’s arrival, adding depth and a more dynamic option between the posts during this challenging period.

A January move for the Brazilian could be crucial for Tottenham as they strive to stabilise their season amidst ongoing injuries and fluctuating form.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 27-year-old striker has not been able to live up to the expectations since moving to the London club. He has struggled to hit top form for Tottenham and he is currently struggling with injury problems. He has 16 goals in 73 games for Tottenham.

Brazilian outfit Fluminense are now prepared to provide him with an exit route in January. The President of the Brazilian club has now revealed that he wants to sign the Tottenham attacker next month and he has already made enquiries about the player.

Mario Bittencourt added that Tottenham are open to the offer and they are willing to listen. However, a deal will be quite difficult to execute and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

He said to Globo Esporte: “Tottenham responded that they are open to the offer, but that they are not currently interested in getting rid of the player, but they are willing to listen. We are also talking to the player to see if he is interested in returning. What is certain is that we have expressed formal interest in Richarlison.

“We know how difficult it will be to bring him, but we believe that he may want to be close to the Brazilian national team, to return home, to the club where he stood out. I have a close relationship with him. We have drawn up an initial document with the English club, without an offer yet, but asking if they would like to negotiate.”

The opportunity to return to his former club could be quite exciting for the player as well, and it remains to be seen whether he is ready to return to Brazil at this stage of his career. Even though the South American is an extremely talented player, he has not been able to contribute consistently at the North London club. A fresh start could be ideal for him.

Tottenham paid around £60 million to sign the player in 2022, and he is likely to be a cheap acquisition. Fluminense might have to pay a premium to get a deal across the line.

Tottenham beat Southampton 5-0 on Sunday night in what was an utterly dominating performance from Ange Postecoglou’s side.

James Maddison opened the scoring within 40 seconds of kick-off, finishing off a lovely assist from young full-back Djed Spence.

Pape Matar Sarr then displayed lovely composure and skill to score the fourth of the game in the 25th minute before James Maddison scored his second of the night from the tightest of angles to make it 5 just before half-time.

The game was won in the first-half, with the majority of Southampton fans having left the stadium, leaving St.Mary’s half empty. There were no more goals in the second half with the game finishing 5-0.

One of the standout performers was the returning Djed Spence who made his first start for Tottenham in the Premier League this season and capped off the fine performance with an assist.

However, his perfect night out ended in a concern with Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold reporting that the defender was seen limping at full-time.

Gold reported on X:

“Djed Spence was seen limping away after going over to the Spurs fans. Hopefully just a bit of tiredness and cramp after his first prolonged spell of football in a long while.”

Djed Spence concern as Tottenham’s injury list continues to grow

If Spence did pick up an injury, he will join the long list of players out injured in what has been a frustrating time for Ange Postecoglou.

The injuries have been a serious problem for him since he took the job. He made a solid start last season but injuries derailed his campaign. And while Spurs have been inconsistent this season, one of the reasons behind the disappointing results has been the long list of injuries to key first-team players.

The game also saw Destiny Udogie pick up an injury in the first half, who was then replaced by Pedro Porro. With Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies and Vicario all out, Ange has been left short of options at the back, having to do with makeshift options.
