Tottenham relegation chances shift again in latest supercomputer prediction after Wolves win - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur beat Wolves 1-0 on Saturday, but they may be doomed regardless of that result.

Roberto De Zerbi has been tasked with dragging Spurs out of the relegation zone, and he secured his first win at Molineux on 25 April.

Joao Palhinha came off the bench to score the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute, but it did not help the Lilywhites to get out of the relegation zone.

That was because West Ham secured a dramatic win over Everton, which kept them two points above the Lilywhites.

Tottenham and De Zerbi will be highly concerned about a new prediction that was made about the relegation battle.

What the supercomputer thinks about Tottenham’s relegation chances

Tottenham finally won a Premier League match, for the first time since December, a total of 118 days, but it has not exactly enhanced their standing.

The Opta Analyst supercomputer now gives them a 60.22 per cent chance of relegation, with the Hammers rated as having a 36.84 per cent likelihood.

That is a dramatic shift from the 44.90 chance of dropping to the Championship that De Zerbi’s side had before the results this weekend.

Why Tottenham can’t believe supercomputer prediction

De Zerbi and his players must not place much stock in the supercomputer’s latest verdict, as it changes on a weekly basis.

One victory could decrease their chances of relegation by a significant margin, depending on what Nuno Espirito Santo’s side do.

Tottenham firmly deserved their win against the Old Gold, as they had 59 per cent possession and created 11 shots, per Fotmob.

His side completed 400 passes to the hosts’ 232, and they also showed the heart required to be the drop, making 14 fouls in the contest.

If they can continue that, then they have every chance of defying the prediction and staying in the division.

Spurs have Aston Villa, Leeds United, Chelsea and Everton in their final four fixtures, so their task will not be easy, but there is an opportunity to develop momentum.

The supercomputer suggests that they may be doomed, but it may not be as bad as that, yet and there are signs that they can turn it around.

Tottenham fans know exactly who’s to blame as Xavi Simons suffers cruel injury – ā€˜Insane’ - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur finally picked up their first win of 2026 on Saturday as Roberto De Zerbi’s side beat Wolves 1-0, but it came at a cost as Xavi Simons sustained a likely season-ending injury.

Making the trip to Molineux, the Lilywhites knew that nothing but three points would be acceptable against the already relegated Old Gold.

It was not the prettiest, but De Zerbi’s side got the job done on the road, with a late goal from Joao Palhinha sealing the deal in the Black Country.

Though, one big incident marred the afternoon for Spurs, with star man Simons stretchered off after suffering what appears to be a serious knee injury.

The Dutchman had begun to shine under De Zerbi, who will now be without his difference maker as Tottenham battle for their Premier League future.

Tottenham fans furious at medical staff after latest injury blows

The injury crisis at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been well documented for the best part of 18 months.

With it still ongoing, De Zerbi arrived at the club over the international break, inheriting an extremely thin squad.

And now, Simons could well be set for an extended period on the sidelines, just as he was beginning to shine in the final third for Spurs.

Reacting to the second-half incident, fans of the North London club were scathing, instantly blaming the Tottenham medical team for initially allowing the attacking midfielder to continue.

ā€œThis medical staff is insane,ā€ added one supporter on X, questioning the decision to allow him to continue.

With blame placed at the door of the medical team, one supporter mentioned that there needs to be a serious inquest after these incidents continue to happen.

Spurs are left fighting for their lives at the bottom of the standings, with relegation a serious threat with four matches remaining.

Some fans believe that the consistent issues on the medical front make them deserving of the Championship, despite what happens on the pitch.

Alongside the incident with Simons, striker Dominic Solanke was also forced off, after he too put in a much better performance against Brighton last week.

With the pair set to be sidelined for periods, some within the fanbase believe the writing is on the wall ahead of the season’s end.

After picking up their first win of 2026, Tottenham travel to Aston Villa on 3 May, with their top-flight future hanging firmly in the balance as the season comes to a close.

Tottenham will miss Xavi Simons as season hits boiling point

The injury to Tottenham’s star signing comes at a horrible time, just as Simons has begun to flourish in Lilywhite.

Making the move from RB Leipzig last summer, the Dutchman struggled to make an impact at first, though he has developed into a real difference-maker in recent weeks.

With the ability to drive with the ball and eat up space better than most in the division, Simons is always looking to get on the ball and make something happen.

This was evident in the 2-2 draw against Brighton, as he continued to battle and plug as the Lilywhites searched for a win on home soil – dragging them ever so close before Georginio Rutter’s late equaliser.

Things just continue to go from bad to worse on the injury front for Tottenham, who will have to do without the now talismanic Simons as they scrap for their lives at the wrong end of the Premier League.

Mike Dean instantly reacts to Andre controversy in Wolves showdown vs Tottenham - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Mike Dean has supported Anthony Taylor’s decision not to send off Andre for a foul on Yves Bissouma in Tottenham Hotspurā€˜s huge 1-0 win over Wolves.

Tottenham headed into Saturday’s encounter at Molineux on a 15-game winless run as they sought to jump out of the relegation zone.

As expected, the first half of the contest was a testy and nervy affair between 18th-placed Tottenham and already relegated Wolves.

Spurs have been short on luck this season with injuries, but have now gone on to lose Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons in huge blows.

And Tottenham felt aggrieved with Andre’s challenge on Bissouma, with many believing the Wolves man should have been sent off.

Tottenham’s woes continue as Andre breathes sigh of relief

Tottenham have parted company with Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor this season, and now Roberto De Zerbi is tasked with keeping them up.

Before the Wolves game, the Italian had tasted a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland, followed by a 2-2 draw with Brighton, at a time when they had a growing injury list.

And it looked like they could have another injury casualty when Andre clattered into Bissouma. Referee Taylor booked the Wolves man but faced no further punishment.

And former Premier League official Dean felt the right decision was made, despite the protests of the Tottenham players.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, he said: ā€œHe [Andre] has caught him [Bissouma] low. I think Rob Edwards was thinking the worst.ā€

ā€œBut he’s low, and he’s gone along the ground, so it’s probably just about the right decision.ā€

Tottenham get relegation lifeline

Tottenham were the better side against Wolves, but for much of the contest, it felt like a draw beckoned.

However, just when hope of victory was fading, substitute Joao Palhinha popped up eight minutes from time to give Tottenham a crucial lead.

Huge celebrations followed after Simons’ strike against Tottenham last Sunday against Brighton, but instead of conceding late on, Spurs held on for their first Premier League win since 28 December.

Tottenham will hope this 1-0 win over Wolves can kickstart their survival; however, West Ham’s late victory over Everton was an undeniable blow.

Tottenham Hotspur beat already relegated Wolves 1-0 in a tense affair on Saturday.

Roberto De Zerbiā€˜s side started well, but the afternoon descended into shambles at Molineux with Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons going off injured.

With Spurs unable to find the breakthrough to take the lead, it looked like they would find themselves further in the relegation mire on 25 April as West Ham were beating Everton.

That was until Joao Palhinha popped up with a goal in the 82nd minute and Everton equalised, but Callum Wilson notched a winner for the Hammers, keeping things as they are.

Tottenham need to keep winning if they are to have any chance of retaining their Premier League status.

Palhinha the hero as Tottenham take three points

Palhinha has been mooted with a permanent switch to Tottenham, and he surely enhanced those chances with his cameo against Rob Edwards’ side.

He only had 13 touches of the ball, per Fotmob, but he popped up with the vital goal after replacing Yves Bissouma.

He completed 86 per cent of his passes, and made four passes into the final third as he asserted his influence on proceedings.

Defensively, he made one tackle, and won one of the two ground duels that he attempted and both aerial duels, for 50 and 100 per cent success rates.

He may have worked himself into De Zerbi’s plans in the foreseeable future with his antics.

Kolo Muani woeful in Tottenham win

Randal Kolo Muani has struggled to have any kind of impact in his time with Spurs, and that continued in the clash with the Old Gold.

The French striker had 34 touches, but failed to create a chance for a teammate and could only record one shot, which was not on target.

He completed just 71 per cent of his passes, but did not connect with any of his two cross attempts in the contest.

The forward had just two touches in the opposition box, and was also dispossessed twice by the hosts in a dismal showing.

He tried seven ground duels, but only won three for a 43 per cent success rate, although he did win all three he went for in the air.

It was no surprise when he was hooked at half-time, as he was not good enough.

Tottenham fight losing battle as Jamie Redknapp shares dressing room ā€˜shockwaves’

Tottenham Hotspur have been hit by yet another blow in the relegation battle.

The Lilywhites are looking ahead to their next Premier League clash against Wolves with the hope of picking up a massive three points on Saturday.

Roberto De Zerbi is yet to secure a win since taking charge of the North London club earlier in April.

He might not get a better chance than against the already relegated outfit as his Spurs side prepares for a trip to Molineux.

Tottenham will face Wolves on Saturday, but already face an uphill battle after Nottingham Forest’s win on Friday night.

Nottingham Forest blow Jamie Redknapp away vs Sunderland

The N17 outfit need someone to do them a favour if they are to avoid the drop, but the East Midlands side certainly didn’t do that.

Forest travelled to face Sunderland and smashed five goals past Robin Roefs to seal a massive win and three points.

Vitor Periera’s side created three big chances and still managed to score five as they sealed a massive win with just 39 per cent possession.

That is the complete opposite of what Spurs needed in their efforts to avoid the drop, especially with a clash with Wolves looming.

Former Lilywhites ace Jamie Redknapp couldn’t believe the result, but suggested that the impact will be felt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: ā€œI don’t think anyone expected that result tonight. I thought before the game that a point would be a good result.

ā€œTo go there and completely turn the goal difference in your favour and get three points in the manner they did will send shockwaves through West Ham and Tottenham fanbase, players and the managers.ā€

Tottenham now have to do their own work against Wolves and make sure that the Forest result doesn’t impact them as expected.

Tottenham can’t repeat April 2025 performance vs Wolves

The pressure is on the N17 side to now put in a performance and prove the world wrong away in the West Midlands

That is entirely possible as long as they don’t perform as they did almost exactly 12 months ago to the day at Molineux.

Tottenham lost 4-2 away in the Black Country a year ago, as goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison were ultimately cancelled out.

That result came despite Spurs having 63 per cent possession and completing 222 passes more than the Old Gold on the day.

Wolves still managed to rack up 2.39 expected goals with 13 shots, while they created two more big chances than the Lilywhites.

That needs to be used as inspiration to prove a point to Nottingham Forest and anyone who is writing Tottenham off.

Tottenham: Roberto De Zerbi doomed from the start amid James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski blows - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi must think he’s cursed following a number of injury setbacks to key personnel.

Before the Italian had taken charge of his first game, Mohammed Kudus was ruled out for the season and then captain Cristian Romero followed in Tottenham’s loss at Sunderland.

While Rodrigo Bentancur is back fit and available, Spurs still haven’t been able to call upon arguably two of their best attacking players in James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

The pair have missed the entire campaign with respective knee injuries and while Maddison was an unused substitute against Brighton, a first-team return still eludes him.

Ahead of relegation-threatened Spurs’ crunch clash with Wolves, De Zerbi has issued a worrying Tottenham squad update.

Tottenham injury woes continue

In his pre-match press conference on Friday, De Zerbi confirmed that Destiny Udogie will miss the Molineux encounter on Saturday due a minor muscular problem.

He could, however, be back for the trip to Aston Villa on 3 May. Moreover, De Zerbi said Maddison is experiencing complications with his comeback and hinted that Kulusevski may not play at all this season.

On Maddison, De Zerbi said: ā€œHe is not available yet, especially in this week. He felt pain but not so important problem. Tomorrow he will come with us on the bench because he is important if he plays or not it doesn’t matter.

ā€œBetter if he plays, for sure, but as a guy, as a leader, he is a positive guy. Inside of my dressing room I want to see nice people, positive people and this is important also for his team-mates.

ā€œI’m sorry for him [Kulusevski] because he was one of my perfect players. He’s a very specific player for me, like Kudus, like Romero.

ā€œBut I hope for him that he can play in the World Cup [with Sweden] because the World Cup for a player is a moment. It’s the best period of their career. But I don’t know the situation very well.ā€

For all of the quality at their disposal, Tottenham should not be in the relegation zone. But their frailties have been plain to see this season.

De Zerbi said Spurs’ problems are more mental than anything else, as he tries to close the gap to 17th-placed West Ham, who are two points clear. The 46-year-old is a very capable coach. But he has been dealt a rough hand in what is the toughest test of his career.

Tottenham’s underwhelming record at Wolves

Tottenham have failed to beat Wolves in their last six meetings in the Premier League, with the Midlands outfit winning four and drawing two.

The north London team have lost their last three away games at Wolves, as many as they had in their previous 16 visits to Molineux.

Chris Sutton has backed Tottenham to end their 15-game winless run but if they don’t do that, the ex-striker thinks Spurs’ race is run.

In the last two seasons, Wolves and Tottenham have suffered the most Premier League defeats at 42 and 38 respectively.

While Wolves are already down, Tottenham need to fight tooth and nail to ensure they don’t follow the same fate.

Adam Armstrong is Wolves’ most likely avenue to hurt Tottenham at Molineux

Adam Armstrong is Wolves’ most likely avenue to hurt Tottenham at Molineux - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Adam Armstrong has been a quality signing for Wolves, and poses Wanderers’ biggest goalscoring danger to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The 29-year-old joined Wolves in this season’s winter transfer window, signing from Championship side Southampton on a permanent deal.

With bags of second tier experience under his belt, the former England youth international has never quite been able to perform consistently on the Premier League stage.

He’s had numerous seasons at top-flight level with the Saints, and has even turned out in the division during his early years as a professional with Newcastle United.

However, ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Wolves on Saturday, he’s the player that Roberto De Zerbi must instruct his defenders to keep an eye on the most.

How has Adam Armstrong fared since signing for Wolves?

Tottenham are winless in six league games against Wolves, ensuring that nobody in the Lilywhites camp will be looking past the already relegated side as a straightforward three points.

Straightforward and Spurs don’t really belong in the same sentence given their recent struggles, and now that they know their fate, Wanderers have nothing to lose against whoever they play for the rest of the season.

Wolves made just two signings in this season’s winter window, one of which was getting Angel Gomes in on loan from Marseille, and the other was Armstrong on a permanent.

Indeed, the latter was the sort of signing that screamed of Molineux decision-makers planning for Championship football for 2026-27, but he has been able to make an impact in the Premier League for them too.

Armstrong has a goal and two assists from nine top-flight outings for Wanderers this term, and has started every single one of those nine appearances he’s made in league football.

As per Sofascore, he’s averaged 1.1 shots per 90 for Wolves in the Premier League, whilst creating two big chances and has a passing accuracy of 72 per cent.

He’s also posted a good dribble success rate of 54 per cent, and has only been caught offside an average of 0.2 times per game.

Armstrong is the type of striker who loves to play off the shoulder of the last defender, and he’s always moving and peeling off opposition players to try and create space and opportunities to be played in on goal.

That’s why he’s going to be so dangerous against Tottenham, as Spurs are likely to go aggressive in attack on Saturday, and with no Cristian Romero in central defence any more, he’ll be confident of taking full advantage of that.

Armstrong’s Southampton numbers should worry Tottenham

Indeed, his numbers from his time spent with Southampton during the first half of this season will tell Tottenham all they need to know about Armstrong.

He hit 11 goals and provided four assists in 29 Championship appearances for Saints this season, despite the fact for the majority of that time, they were floundering in the bottom half of the division.

As per Sofascore, he still was able to register 3.0 shots on goal per game and had an expected goals (xG) of 14.97, whilst 10 of his 11 strikes came from inside the box.

He also missed 15 big chances too, which is an unwanted number of course, but it also speaks to how good his forward play is to be able to get that amount of opportunities for himself.

Armstrong is a handful for centre-backs, and if Tottenham are to concede and possibly even lose the game against Wolves on Saturday, the likelihood will be that he will’ve been at the centre of it.

Yves Bissouma to get ā€˜second lease of life’ at Tottenham after Brighton scenes

Yves Bissouma to get ā€˜second lease of life’ at Tottenham after Brighton scenes - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Yves Bissouma has been on the fringes at Tottenham Hotspur this season.

The Mali midfielder has featured just nine times in the current campaign, with disciplinary issues and his place in the pecking order contributing to that.

Roberto De Zerbi drafted him into the starting line-up for the 2-2 draw with Brighton, and he played 56 minutes in the contest.

His future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is under question, as his contract expires in the summer and it looked as though he was set to leave.

However, Tottenham could perform a U-turn and keep him around after the latest scenes.

MORE SPURS STORIES

🚨 TOTTENHAM TRANSFER HUB 🚨

Breaking N17 recruitment news: Top targets, deals in progress, whispers, signings, departures, contract updates.

Why Bissouma might have a second lease of life at Tottenham

John Wenham would like to see Bissouma and Tottenham part ways at the end of the season, but he did concede that he could be given a second chance.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: ā€œYves Bissouma came back into the line-up, a player that I’ve said to you, I’m not overly fussed with whether he plays or doesn’t play,

ā€œIn eight weeks time, his contract is up at Tottenham, and I expect him to leave for free, but it seems like De Zerbi did trust him to start.

ā€œHe did get a yellow card in the first half, which was sort of in my head, I was thinking maybe he’s got a going off at halftime, but he did play a little bit longer. I think he played 56 minutes before he was part of a double substitution.

ā€œHe seems like someone who may now get a second lease of life at Tottenham.ā€

Why Tottenham should part ways with Bissouma

The Lilywhites would be better off letting Bissouma depart for nothing, he is too much of a liability when it comes to his conduct and his fitness.

He rubbed Thomas Frank the wrong way due to turning up to training late and being recorded doing Nitrous Oxide balloons.

He has also missed a total of 33 matches for club and country through injury this season, so he cannot be relied upon and should be moved on.

An exit is the correct move for all parties, and a new deal should not be considered by the hierarchy in N17.

Tottenham’s Championship fears deepened by talk of parachute payment cuts

Tottenham’s Championship fears deepened by talk of parachute payment cuts - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could be dealt the most ā€œSpursyā€ Championship reality by facing cuts to their parachute payments if relegation occurs.

The Lilywhites have just five games left to secure their Premier League status for another year, but are nailed on favourites to stay in 18th place, which would result in relegation.

The Lewis family would have major work to do if a drop to the Championship did occur, with revenue and wages cuts needed, as 2024-25 accounts showed a wage bill of £256million.

Now, according to The Athletic, there are discussions between the EFL and the Premier League to cut parachute payments, with some wanting them gone entirely.

With Spurs looking doomed for Premier League relegation, this would be the most ā€œSpursyā€ thing to happen to the Lilywhites, from a financial standpoint.

How much could Tottenham be affected and when?

Parachute payments have been around for years, with many teams that are relegated from the Premier League, then spending money to come back up at the first time of asking the following campaign.

The year one payment for a relegated club is roughly £55m, year two is £45m, and then year three sees a relegated club earn 20m.

It’s likely that cuts will come into play soon, but a full abolishment of parachute payments is unlikely.

As seen in the table above, unofficial plans could see parachute payments drop by £45 overall, with clubs that stay put in the Championship earning a rough estimate of £120m from parachute payments.

However, if a team is promoted again after one year, they usually don’t receive the full cycle of these three-year rolling payments anyway.

It is unlikely that this will be changed for next season, but if Spurs were to get relegated and then fail to gain promotion again at the first time of asking, then their payments could be affected from the 2027-28 season onwards.

But that is the worst-case scenario, as you would expect the club to come up straight away.

Will the Lewis family sell up?

At this stage, it’s just discussions between the Premier League and the EFL over these possible parachute payment cuts and nothing has been agreed.

Either way, the Lewis family are braced for big hits in terms of commercial and broadcast revenue, sponsorship income and other matchday expenses.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which they pay £28m per year in interest alone for, is run on high costs, not to mention Hotspur Way. The Lewis family will surely be panicking behind the scenes, and a sale of the club cannot be ruled out.

Luca Williams-Barnett tipped for League One loan as Mikey Moore path ruled out at Tottenham

Luca Williams-Barnett tipped for League One loan as Mikey Moore path ruled out at Tottenham - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Luca Williams-Barnett should not be expected to follow in Mikey Moore’s footsteps at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 17-year-old is one of the most highly rated youngsters at Hotspur Way, and he could well find himself out on loan next season.

He needs to test himself in senior football, which is much harder and more physical than the youth level he currently operates at.

Moore has already done that, finding his feet with Rangers in Scottish football, with a heap of expectations on his shoulders.

Tottenham would be best sending him out to get first-team experience, away from the pressure that comes in N17.

MORE SPURS STORIES

🚨 TOTTENHAM TRANSFER HUB 🚨

Breaking N17 recruitment news: Top targets, deals in progress, whispers, signings, departures, contract updates.

What was said about Williams-Barnett’s Tottenham future?

Moore is currently excelling away from Tottenham, but John Wenham believes Williams-Barnett is not ready for that level.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: ā€œIf you compare their seasons, what Luca’s doing this year compared to what Mikey’s doing in the same year, which was last year for him, Mikey had made 16 first-team appearances for Tottenham, including Premier League starts, Europa League starts, being on the bench in the Europa League final, etc, there is a difference of where they are right now for the same age.

ā€œIt’d be a first loan for him, Mikey was incredibly brave to go on that loan to Rangers and the high expectations they’ve got there.

ā€œFor Luca, probably a loan within England, maybe League One to start with and sort of take it from there.

ā€œAnd obviously, if he finds that League One is too easy or going too well, then he can have a break clause to recall him and maybe put him to the Championship for the second half of that season.

Why League One is perfect for Williams-Barnett

Wenham’s suggestion is probably the correct answer for Williams-Barnett, as he does not have the senior experience that Moore did when he left on loan.

He only has one senior appearance to his name, a three-minute cameo in the Carabao Cup, and would likely not be able to handle the pressure of a big loan move.

League One is the perfect level to test him ability against senior professionals, who will give him a tough test.
