Description

This article includes exclusive comments from Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham.

Son Heung-min’s future at Tottenham could take an unexpected turn in the coming weeks.

After almost a decade in North London, Son has been linked away from Tottenham this summer.

While the South Korean managed to put up decent numbers last season, his overall performances were far from his best. As such, an exit was the logical conclusion for all involved.

However, during a summer filled with twists and turns, the biggest one yet could be just around the corner.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Son could accept a peripheral role to remain at Tottenham

As reported by several sources, LAFC have taken an interest in Son and are determined to sign him this summer.

However, the winger has demonstrated on several occasions that he could still be of use for at least another season.

And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Son’s performance during Spurs’ pre-season win against Reading may have convinced Thomas Frank that the 33-year-old could still be a useful option from the bench.

“Son started well in the Reading game during the first ten minutes of the second half,” Wenham said.

“It’s worth noting that his trickery on the wing won both corners, from which the goals eventually came. However, after that, his fullback was basically beating him every single time to the ball to the point where the Reading fans were cheering every time he beat him, which was quite sad to see.

“But maybe that brings us to a point of, could he still be a fantastic super sub for Tottenham?

“Coming on and making a difference in short spells, because if you just take Son for ten minutes over any of our other wingers, he’s probably still the best. However, he’s on the decline, and that’s natural with age.”

Son could be useful next season

It would not be a huge loss if a suitable offer for Son is not tabled this summer. Indeed, the South Korean could still be of use.

While he should not start, his performances during the UEFA Europa League last season demonstrated that he still has the qualities of a leader. With several young players climbing through the ranks, his guidance could be a positive influence.

Therefore, it could be beneficial for Son to remain at Hotspur Way for one more season.

Description

Bayern Munich star Joao Palhinha has been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer.

With news of Morgan Gibbs-White signing a new deal at Nottingham Forest, Tottenham can now turn their attention to other targets, or perhaps revisit some of the links from earlier in the summer.

One of those saw Palhinha linked with a move to Tottenham, with several other Premier League clubs also keeping an eye on the midfielder.

The Portuguese international previously spent time at Fulham, where he attracted enough interest with his performances to earn his move to Bayern Munich.

Yves Bissouma could leave Tottenham

Juventus had previously shown an interest in signing Yves Bissouma this summer, who has just one year left on his contract at Spurs.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That could entice Tottenham to sell, and Paul Robinson thinks that Palhinha would be the perfect replacement.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I don’t think Bissouma has hit the levels that people expected him to since he’s been there.

“I think somebody like Palhinha coming in, again, that’s improving what you’ve got. If you’re going to let players like Bissouma leave, there’s potential that others could depart.

“But a player like Palhinha coming in, I know there’s finances involved, but when you look at it from a fan’s point of view, would you trade Palhinha for Bissouma? Yeah, absolutely. Would you bring in a better player? Yeah.”

Tottenham must improve squad depth

Last season’s failure came down to several factors, but a lack of quality depth was certainly among the main reasons.

Thomas Frank needs that to change this season if he is to succeed, with UEFA Champions League football on the agenda.

If Bissouma leaves, he will not only need to be replaced, but Spurs will also need to ensure that they have several players who can cover that position.

Tottenham forget Morgan Gibbs-White as Man Utd approach made

Tottenham forget Morgan Gibbs-White as Man Utd approach made - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Thomas Frank will be eager to refocus at Tottenham after the Morgan Gibbs-White saga.

Tottenham were already in limbo for over two weeks as they waited to find out whether their move for Gibbs-White would go through.

Spurs were eventually met with the announcement late on Saturday (26 July) that Evangelos Marinakis had embarrassed Daniel Levy by agreeing a new contract with the Nottingham Forest star.

This will have infuriated Frank, who has already lost precious time in the summer market and has led the Lilywhites to make a swift approach to Manchester United.

Tottenham approach Manchester United for Kobbie Mainoo

Tottenham have been linked with Kobbie Mainoo as Frank looks to reinforce his midfield options ahead of next season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Mainoo has had a trying time at Manchester United since the arrival of Ruben Amorim, who has yet to settle on how best to utilise the England international within his strict system.

As reported by GiveMeSport (27 July), Spurs have now made contact with the Red Devils to enquire about a potential transfer for Mainoo.

Tottenham could capitalise on their financial advantage to sign the United academy graduate, who has less than two years remaining on his deal.

Frank is wary of the fact that neither Yves Bissouma nor Rodrigo Bentancur have signed a contract extension, meaning they could both leave next summer.

Spurs should not sign Mainoo

Mainoo is unquestionably a talented player, and at 20 years old, would fit Spurs’ recent strategy of signing young players with an eye to developing them at Hotspur Way.

However, the North Londoners require a more defensive-minded midfielder, whose primary skillset is breaking up opponents’ attacks and shielding the back line.

While Frank’s philosophy vastly differs from Amorim’s, he would still question why such a gifted homegrown player has not looked settled in the centre of the park.

Mainoo would be an exciting prospect for the Dane to work with, but with pressure firmly on the 51-year-old’s shoulders to compete on all four fronts next season, he may be better suited to sign a more proven player, such as Joao Palhinha.

Tottenham losing patience as Moore makes exit decision – Exclusive - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

This article includes exclusive comment from former Tottenham scout Bryan King.

Tottenham have been involved in plenty of speculation surrounding their young starlet Mikey Moore over the last few weeks.

Moore broke through into the first team in N17 last season, but has continuously been linked with a move away from the Lilywhites this summer.

Moore’s camp has been pushing to secure a loan move away from Spurs, while there have also been murmurs of a potential permanent exit.

The attacker has been a topic of much discussion in the early stages of the Thomas Frank era, and it now appears that things could be about to come to a head regarding his future.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham are losing patience as Moore chooses Rangers

Moore’s future at Tottenham has now taken another turn, with the emergence of Rangers as the frontrunner to take him on loan this season.

The Scottish giants are currently midway through their UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign, but they have quickly entered the fray for Moore over the last few days.

Championship side West Brom have also been heavily linked with the wideman, but he is now understood to be set to join Rangers imminently, according to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge via X (28 July).

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that the Lilywhites may be losing patience with Moore as a result of the saga, and also feels that the youngster has a big season ahead of him.

“I was expecting more from him (Moore),” King said.

“I was expecting him to really hit the ground running in the first team this year.

“He should certainly be breaking into Tottenham’s first team soon, if he’s going to fulfil the potential that we were told he would.

“He’s got a tough year ahead of him because there’s only so long that a team like Tottenham are going to wait for even a 17 or 18-year-old. Many 17 and 18-year-olds are breaking into first teams today.

“He seems not to have progressed as well as everybody perhaps thought he would.”

Moore is a victim of the managerial change at Spurs

Moore received plenty of gametime at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou during last season, and he has perhaps found himself caught as a victim of the managerial change at the Lilywhites.

It may have been the player and his camp who were striving to find a suitable loan move this time around, but that could easily have come as a result of Frank suggesting that he won’t see the same number of minutes now.

The Dane will want to make a strong start to life at Spurs, and will therefore probably be looking towards his more established Premier League players, particularly during the early stages of his reign.

There could be scope for Tottenham to recall Moore partway through the season if he catches the eye, but for now at least, it seems like a good move for the starlet.

Postecoglou vindicated as Frank suffers fresh injury concerns at Tottenham

Postecoglou vindicated as Frank suffers fresh injury concerns at Tottenham - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Ange Postecoglou will feel that he was unjustly criticised for Tottenham’s injury problems.

Tottenham suffered an unprecedented crisis last season, ranking second only to Brighton in the Premier League for both the number of injuries sustained and days lost to injury.

Postecoglou bore the brunt of the blame for the setbacks, with his physically demanding play style and training methods repeatedly called into question.

There has already been an overhaul of the medical staff at Hotspur Way, but it has yet to bear fruit, as Thomas Frank faces his latest fitness concerns.

Tottenham players skip Asia pre-season tour with injuries

When Frank walked through the doors in N17, he was already greeted by a handful of injured players, as James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Radu Dragusin were all still recovering from setbacks sustained during the previous season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He was thankful to find Lucas Bergvall had returned to full fitness, while Richarlison recovered in time to feature in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday (26 July).

However, Dominic Solanke was absent from Spurs’ trip to Luton later that day, while Destiny Udogie pulled out of the starting lineup after “feeling something in the warmup”, according to Frank.

When Frank announced the squad for the pre-season tour in Asia (27 July), there were plenty of notable absences, including the Italian left-back.

Udogie, along with Kota Takai and Manor Solomon, have all stayed back at Hotspur Way to receive further treatment for their respective injuries.

This will be a red flag for Frank, who will fear that history is repeating itself, despite his insistence that his focus in training was to build robustness in the squad.

While the Australian will wish no harm to his counterpart, Postecoglou may feel a little vindicated at the fact that injuries are still prevalent since his departure.

Tottenham’s transfer strategy adapted to avoid injuries

One notable change that Spurs have made to combat future fitness issues is that the North Londoners have targeted players with solid appearance records.

Mohammed Kudus did not miss a single game in two years at West Ham due to injury, while Mathys Tel has spent less than a month on the treatment table over the same period.

Frank’s insistence on signing players with Premier League experience is not just to ensure they can successfully adapt, but also to be sure that they can handle the physical demands of England’s top flight.

It points to a movement away from signing players like Bryan Gil, who have proven not to be robust enough to succeed.

Rodrygo transfer odds shorten as Tottenham make big move

Rodrygo transfer odds shorten as Tottenham make big move - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo could be on his way out this summer, and Tottenham are among the clubs linked with a move for the Brazilian.

Spurs find themselves capable of attracting higher-calibre players after their UEFA Europa League triumph led to Champions League qualification for the upcoming season.

Thomas Frank will have his preferred targets, and it remains to be seen if Rodrygo moves to North London this summer.

Spurs open talks for Rodrygo but wait on Liverpool

According to Marca journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon (28 July), Spurs have opened talks for Rodrygo.

However, they are waiting on Liverpool to see if they make a move for the talented Madrid forward.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Rodrygo himself has not decided on his future and could end up staying in the Spanish capital.

However, this transfer development has seen odds shorten on his move to Spurs.

Per William Hill, odds have shortened to 14/1 for Rodrygo to move to North London. However, if he is to leave, Liverpool remain the favourites at 5/2, although those odds are drifting.

Rodrygo would be a solid addition to the Tottenham attack

Rodrygo would be a stellar signing for Tottenham due to his versatility, flair and proven quality at Real Madrid, where he’s showcased his ability as a dynamic forward.

At 24, his pace, dribbling, and goal-scoring instincts align perfectly with Frank’s attacking, high-intensity system.

Frank’s flexible 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 formations, which emphasise inside forwards, suit the Brazilian’s strengths as he thrives in structured roles, cutting in from the wings or playing as a second striker.

Frank’s track record of developing talents like Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney suggests he can maximise Rodrygo’s potential through tailored coaching, focusing on his movement and finishing.

His emotionally intelligent man-management will help Rodrygo adapt to the Premier League, while Spurs’ data-driven recruitment ensures he fits their youthful, ambitious squad.

Therefore, with regular game time, Rodrygo could transform Tottenham.

Daniel Levy could sign off on £20m-a-year deal at Tottenham after new reveal – Exclusive

Daniel Levy could sign off on £20m-a-year deal at Tottenham after new reveal – Exclusive - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

This story includes exclusive opinion from football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley.

Daniel Levy has been taking steps to appease Tottenham supporters after a fractured season in North London.

Spurs fans have criticised Levy for his lack of investment in the playing squad, but this summer is following a different narrative.

Tottenham have already signed Mohammed Kudus for £55million and showed further intent in their £60million pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White.

Now, Levy is aiming to generate more funds for the Lilywhites by working towards a lucrative sponsorship deal for their home.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Levy to generate significant funds from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Imagine Dragons were the latest act to grace the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the Lilywhites continue their pre-season.

Naming rights deals are another avenue for serious revenue, and Levy wanted to secure a world-record £375million package for the home stadium, with a lucrative deal now being worked on.

With Levy eyeing a huge deal, football finance expert Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, has provided insight.

“If you look at that overall number, I’d like to see the divide by number of years linked to that, so it does depend on the per-year value, and that’s what we can see in some of the estimates and values that are out there,“ he said.

“If you take Arsenal at the Emirates and City at the Etihad as an example, those deals are estimated to be worth £16million a year for Arsenal; the City one is a little bit higher, in and around £20million.

“The per-season value becomes really interesting then against that total figure.

“There were a couple of reports done years ago that estimated that Old Trafford could be potentially worth £26million a season, and Spurs, as an example, could generate £17.5million per season.

“They’re estimates based on the standing of the club and their history and intangibles and where they are at the minute.

“If you look at that as a marker, then the ballpark’s probably somewhere between £15-20million per season for a big six club.

“Then, you would want to know what that £375million is divided by in terms of the length of that contract, because that’ll dictate whether or not it’s above average, or above average, depending on the market.

“But in that £15-20million a year ballpark is what they’ll be targeting at least to go higher than that, it would be a bit of a stretch based on what we’ve seen in the figures that we do see in the deals that have been done.”

Spurs need further player investment ahead of Premier League return

While the signing of Kudus is encouraging, the North London outfit need more players to challenge on all fronts.

With Champions League football an added ingredient next season, Thomas Frank needs a deeper squad filled with more quality.

Now that Gibbs-White has signed a new contract at Nottingham Forest, Tottenham need an alternative.

While there is plenty of time left in the market, Spurs must press on with their spending and huge deals like this would no doubt help that.

Mikey Moore to seal Tottenham exit as transfer favourites emerge

Mikey Moore to seal Tottenham exit as transfer favourites emerge - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Mikey Moore is set to leave Tottenham this summer in search of regular game time.

Moore became Tottenham’s youngest player to feature in the Premier League when he came on as a substitute against Manchester City in May 2024.

He followed that up with a far more regular involvement last season, breaking another record to become Spurs’ youngest goalscorer in Europe with his impressive solo effort against IF Elfsborg in January 2025.

However, with fewer guarantees of minutes afforded to him by Thomas Frank, the 17-year-old is set to leave on loan this summer.

Rangers emerge as favourites to sign Moore on loan

Moore was left out of Tottenham’s Asia pre-season tour squad to allow the England Under-19 international the chance to secure a loan deal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

A handful of Championship sides are thought to be keen on a deal, while Borussia Dortmund have also reportedly kept tabs on the gifted winger.

Moore has pushed for a loan move this summer after suffering various setbacks last season, which hampered his development and resulted in him missing vital match minutes.

The Spurs academy graduate could now be heading to Scotland as Rangers have emerged as favourites to sign the youngster on loan, as reported by Matt Law (28 July).

The possibility of dropping down a division still remains, but the Gers seem to have stolen ahead in the race as they look to make up ground on Celtic.

Tottenham facing growing issue in Champions League

Moore’s likely departure this summer will only further Tottenham’s issues in the UEFA Champions League next season, as they are short of the homegrown quota.

Brandon Austin is the only senior academy player currently at Spurs, meaning that the Lilywhites will have a total of 22 players to compete with in Europe, down from 25.

As such, Tottenham have looked at deals for former graduates in Dennis Cirkin and Kyle Walker-Peters, before he joined West Ham, to boost those numbers.

Frank will face difficult decisions about which players to leave out of the squad, while he will have to fill the remaining spots with academy graduates, and could rue letting one of their best youngsters, Moore, leave.

Description

Thomas Frank is known for his ability to utilise youth players, something that could work wonders at Tottenham, given their academy.

Frank will have watched on as Spurs’ midfield was continuously bypassed last season, and has looked at strengthening the centre of the park as a priority this summer.

The Dane will not have taken kindly to Daniel Levy’s lack of support to sign a traditional number six, and will feel further aggrieved as a move for Morgan Gibbs-White fell through.

With Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma also in the final year of their contracts, Frank will be relieved to finally make some progress.

George Abbott signs new long-term deal with Spurs

George Abbott has impressed in pre-season since returning to Hotspur Way after a successful loan spell with League Two side Notts County, where he helped guide them to the play-offs.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The midfielder was a late replacement for Bentancur in Tottenham’s friendly against Wycombe (26 July), and was one of the stand-out performers as the Lilywhites drew 2-2.

His progress has been rewarded, as Tottenham announced that Abbott has signed a new long-term deal (27 July) after joining the academy at the age of eight.

Spurs are “delighted” by the development of the 19-year-old, which saw him pick up the EFL Goal of the Season award for a thunderous finish against Accrington Stanley last season.

It was initially expected that Abbott would swiftly leave on loan this summer, but he has been included in the pre-season squad that are travelling to Asia.

Abbott could be answer to Tottenham’s midfield struggles

Although Abbott is still very early in his development, he possesses all the attributes to evolve into a midfielder that Tottenham currently lack.

To start, the academy graduate is very quick and has the fitness to cover a lot of ground to help shield the defence, especially in transition.

He is technically solid and has proven himself to be a goal threat, despite playing the majority of last season at the base of the midfield.

Abbott still has plenty of room for development, especially with his reading of the game, but he could be the long-term solution to Tottenham’s problems.

Solomon tipped to join Burnley amid ‘surprising’ Tottenham transfer update – Exclusive - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

This article includes exclusive comment from former Tottenham scout Bryan King.

Manor Solomon has been facing an uncertain future at Tottenham since the end of last season.

The forward was out on loan at Leeds United last term, and he became a hugely popular figure as he helped the West Yorkshire outfit to promotion to the Premier League.

Tottenham have faced interest in Solomon from the Whites, who have made it clear that they would be keen to bring him back permanently.

The Lilywhites are still yet to make a decision on the 26-year-old, who has been sidelined with an injury in the early stages of pre-season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Solomon tipped to join Burnley instead of Leeds

Solomon is desperate to be given a chance at Tottenham before a decision is made regarding his exit, but his injury may have put paid to that opportunity.

Thomas Frank’s side have numerous options in the wide areas, and it will be difficult for the Israeli to force his way into the side in the later stages of the summer preparations.

However, he seems keen to try and make a name for himself at Spurs, despite the sustained interest in him from Leeds.

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that Solomon won’t be able to get in at Spurs, and instead feels that Burnley should be targeting him for a move.

“I think Solomon has got to face the facts that his future,” King said.

“Frank will obviously see him in pre-season, but I can’t really see where he’s going to get in the side.

“If I were going to decide between keeping Son or keeping him, I think I’d stick with Son for another year.

“I can’t see why Leeds haven’t made overtures to sign him already, given how well he did for them last season.

“I’m surprised somebody else who came up hasn’t been in for him. Someone like Burnley, maybe.”

Tottenham need to sell Solomon

The interest that Tottenham have seen in Solomon has quietened down somewhat over the last few weeks.

However, Spurs should still be looking to sell the forward, even if they cannot get a big fee for him.

Solomon is in the prime of his career and he needs to be playing regular football; otherwise, he will fade away into the background in N17.

Ultimately, Spurs are unlikely to be able to provide him with that, so they should do the honourable thing and help find another club for him.

It would also provide financial benefits for Daniel Levy by getting him off the wage bill.

Solomon may still harbour the ambition of breaking into the side at Spurs, but the chance of that happening is certainly slim.
