Tottenham are now searching for a new manager after the sacking of Thomas Frank.

Frank was finally dismissed by Tottenham on Wednesday morning, leaving the North London outfit 16th in the Premier League and just five points clear of the relegation zone.

The Dane’s final match in charge was a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs’ fourth loss in their last six Premier League games.

Malick Thiaw opened the scoring for the Magpies, with Archie Gray grabbing an equaliser, but Jacob Ramsey’s winner put the final nail in the coffin for Frank.

Harry Redknapp would take Tottenham job

Harry Redknapp has previously urged Tottenham to stick by Frank, but he could now be the one to take the Dane’s place in North London.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Mauricio Pochettino is one of the favourites to take over at Spurs, but the Argentine is currently unavailable, managing the USA national team.

Pochettino could be an option in the summer, after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, but if Tottenham were to go down that route, they would need an interim boss until the end of the season.

Redknapp’s name has been floated around as a potential option for the Lilywhites, despite the fact that he has been out of work since 2017.

However, speaking on Sky Sports News, the 78-year-old, who had a four year spell as manager of Tottenham, revealed he would be open to a return to North London.

Redknapp said: “Would I fancy it? Of course I would do it, without a shadow of a doubt.

“They’ve got my number. If anyone wants to ring me, they know where I am.

“But listen, I’m a realist, I don’t live in cuckoo land. It’s very doubtful if I would get the job.”

Tottenham lacking quality interim options

The fact that Redknapp is even being mentioned in terms of the Tottenham job shows the level of managers available right now.

If Spurs do decide to wait until the summer to make a permanent appointment, whether that be Pochettino or someone else, the interim boss has to keep them in the Premier League, above all else.

Ryan Mason, Tim Sherwood and John Heitinga are temporary options for the Lilywhites, but that will hardly fill Tottenham fans with confidence.

It remains to be seen who Spurs choose to replace Frank, but whoever comes in will have a big job on their hands to turn the current situation around.

Tottenham’s search for Thomas Frank’s replacement could move very quickly.

Frank was sacked on 11 February, with the 2-1 loss to Newcastle being the last straw for Spurs supporters and the board.

Malick Thiaw scored the opening goal, and Archie Gray’s equaliser counted for nothing as Jacob Ramsey secured all three points for the visitors at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That was the final nail in his coffin, and the Lilywhites are now looking for a third manager in eight months.

How quickly could Tottenham appoint their new manager?

John Wenham believes Frank was never suited to Spurs, and that they could sort out a temporary replacement in the coming days.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “It had to happen, the feeling was that it just wasn’t going to work, the style of football was not compatible with the club’s DNA, to dare is to do.

“We’ve now got 12 days until we play Arsenal, if we can get a new manager in the next one or two days, that gives 10 clear days to prepare for that game.

“It would just instantly lift everyone for that game, that is massive, there is nothing that Tottenham would love more than to stop Arsenal.

“Tottenham need the win, they are right down in the relegation zone, I don’t think I’ve ever celebrated a Man United goal as much as I did last night when Benjamin Sesko scored against West Ham.

“Tottenham are in a relegation battle, the sooner they accept that the better, they can’t sleepwalk into it, like they have been doing since November and December.”

Why quick approach could be best for Tottenham

Hiring a new man in the immediate future could be the right move for Spurs, as their best target will not be available until the summer.

The man on most Tottenham supporters’ minds is Mauricio Pochettino, but he is set to manage the United States in the World Cup.

The 53-year-old has made it clear that he will not leave that role, and it would take fairly hefty compensation to buy out his contract.

Therefore, appointing an interim boss in the next few days, until their preferred option is available, may well be the best option.

Ange Postecoglou’s instant three-word verdict on Tottenham sacking Thomas Frank - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Ange Postecoglou has uttered his first words on Thomas Frank’s Tottenham sacking.

Postecoglou led Tottenham to Europa League glory last May, but that wasn’t enough to save his job as he paid the price for a 17th-placed Premier League finish.

Tottenham then swooped for Brentford boss Frank as his successor after a hugely successful stint at the Bees between 2018 and 2025.

And while the Dane’s tenure at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium began brightly, as Spurs hit the top four in the division, they have been on a steady decline ever since.

Frank was given his marching orders on Wednesday morning after a dismal 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United and now, Postecoglou has given a brief initial assessment of the news.

Stick to Football tease Ange Postecoglou’s take on Thomas Frank’s sacking

Postecoglou wasn’t out of work long, however, with Nottingham Forest snapping him up on a two-year deal after Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure last September.

But the Australian lasted just eight games at City Ground, with the ex-Celtic boss drawing two and losing six during a sorry Nottingham stint.

Postecoglou has been linked with a return to Tottenham amid the club’s struggles this season and when news of Frank’s dismissal was announced, the Stick to Football cast were about to start recording an episode with the former Australia national team manager.

As the rest of the crew reacted to the Frank news, Postecoglou was heard saying, “Some timing, eh?” The episode will be released on Thursday morning, to much anticipation.

Show host Gary Neville revealed that Postecoglou’s guest appearance was brought forward a week, on the back of the breaking Tottenham news.

The Overlap’s X account then tweeted: “Grab the popcorn, we’ll see you tomorrow!”

Many football fans will be on the edge of their seats to hear what Postecoglou, who had two seasons at Tottenham, has to say on the matter.

Frank’s Brentford brilliance doesn’t translate at Tottenham

When Frank took over at Championship side Brentford in 2018, as Dean Smith left for Aston Villa, little was known about him.

But he, arguably, went on to become Brentford’s best-ever manager as they earned promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and he turned them into a mid-table top-flight side.

However, when he was at the Bees, Frank was at a very well-run club, with a clear identity, and there was much less media attention on him.

Brentford were a relatively low-possession side, but that would have to change for him to succeed at Tottenham.

Many suspected Brentford would struggle when Frank left, but his set-piece coach Keith Andrews is on course to guide them to their best-ever Premier League finish.

Meanwhile, Frank’s Tottenham were listless, often struggled to create meaningful chances, and in the en,d they won just two of 13 home league games. They lacked an identity, and he was unable to turn the tide.

It appears that the head coach at Brentford is just another part of a successful cog, but Tottenham are not as well run as their London neighbours, and the Dane was not up to the task.

Why Joe Lewis took his sweet time with Thomas Frank sack as Tottenham expenses broken down

Joe Lewis may need to be shown some extra compassion at Tottenham after sacking Thomas Frank, because let’s not forget, it was Daniel Levy who brought the head coach to N17.

Spurs announced their decision to part ways with the Dane on Wednesday following a damaging 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League.

Levy pushed for Frank‘s hire in the summer and had to pay Brentford a large sum of money in compensation to acquire his services at Tottenham.

Not only that, but Levy then fled, maybe after he realised he made the wrong decision, as Lewis now has to pick up all of the broken pieces.

Worst of all, Lewis and ENIC will also have to now pay up Frank’s extortionate salary.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Thomas Frank could cost Tottenham £30m in total, with wages left to pay

The loss has left Spurs in 16th place on 29 points, as it doesn’t get any easier with Arsenal next up in the league.

Many suggested that Lewis took far too long sacking Frank, with the Lilywhites now genuinely looking like they are in a relegation battle.

However, one of the reasons why he will have wanted the Dane to turn things around is because of the financial repercussions that Tottenham now face from his departure.

According to The Sun, Frank’s deal is worth £24million over the three years, as Lewis and ENIC may be forced to pay the remaining £18million.

So in total, Levy spent around £30.7million for the ex-Brentford boss, who has brought nothing but harm to the Lilywhites.

It’s glaringly obvious to see that Lewis was hesitant to pull the trigger on him for this reason, and he cannot be solely blamed for the appointment.

What’s happening with Frank’s backroom staff?

Tottenham‘s official statement on Wednesday thanked Frank for his efforts and wished him well in his future endeavours, but didn’t confirm the future of his backroom staff.

The £6.7million that the Lilywhites spent on the 52-year-old was also for his staff, and they too will be getting big amounts.

There could be some thinking behind the scenes that the new interim boss could still work with Frank’s team, but time will tell.

Either way, Lewis and ENIC have been slightly done over with the finances of a deal that Levy himself pushed for, but they are not excused for the direction that the club is going in.

Description

Thomas Frank’s departure has left Tottenham back on the hunt for a new manager.

Tottenham are at risk of relegation from the Premier League, but it’s an all-too-familiar feeling, having finished 17th under Ange Postecoglou last season.

This campaign’s failures have been pointed at Frank, who was relieved of his duties as Tottenham manager on Wednesday morning, off the back of another home defeat.

Postecoglou has been mooted for a return to North London, though that is unlikely, but a move back to Spurs for Pochettino may not be ruled out quite yet.

MORE SPURS STORIES

What has been said about Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs return?

Pochettino was earmarked for a return to Tottenham prior to Frank getting the job, though that quite evidently never came to fruition.

And now again, the same rumours are flying.

Back in January, it was reported by Ben Jacobs that Pochettino would be open to returning to North London, having found plenty of success there in his previous spell.

However, for Tottenham, it feels unlikely that it would happen ahead of the final 12 games of the season, especially considering his position with the USMNT.

Pochettino will not want to give up the chance of managing at the World Cup in the summer, and if he were to take the Tottenham job now, that wouldn’t happen.

There is every chance that he would make the move in the summer, but that would hinge on Spurs hiring someone between now and the end of the season, and in that regard, there’s a clear name to consider, not that it would spark much optimism.

Ryan Mason could take Tottenham job until May

Ryan Mason knows Tottenham inside out, having spent time there as a player, but more recently as a coach prior to his failed spell at West Brom.

In fact, Mason has already been linked with the Tottenham job when Frank sack rumours were starting to emerge halfway through the eight-game winless run that saw him dismissed.

If it were to happen, it’s highly unlikely to satisfy the supporters who have grown frustrated with the lack of direction from their club, but it would be a perhaps sensible stop-gap appointment to keep Spurs in the Premier League.

That is the one and only aim for the remainder of the campaign, and with 12 games remaining, time is running out.

Tottenham could make a shock move to appoint John Gregory as their next manager.

Thomas Frank has finally been sacked by Tottenham after a shocking spell in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The last straw came as Tottenham fell to a 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United on Tuesday, meaning Spurs are yet to win a Premier League game in 2026.

Frank didn’t think Tottenham would sack him, but his exit has now been officially confirmed in North London.

The door is now open for a new manager to come in, with Gregory emerging as a surprise candidate to take over from Frank.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham told to appoint John Gregory

Roberto De Zerbi has emerged as a target for Tottenham, with the Italian now out of a job after leaving Marseille.

He is just one of many options on the table right now in N17, although a left-field shout could now be utilised by the Lilywhites.

Frank couldn’t get the best out of his players at Spurs, but there is a belief that Gregory would be able to do exactly that.

Former scout Bryan King has put the ex-Aston Villa boss forward as a manager who could come in and turn the tide for the North London club.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “There are enough experienced managers around.

“Looking at English managers, I would go and get John Gregory in. People would laugh, but I tell you what, he would sort it out.

“He’s an experienced manager, doing very little right now.

“I’d bring him in and say, ‘Sort it out, John. Come in for six months and keep us in the Premier League, thanks very much.’

“He’s the most experienced manager who isn’t working.

“He’s a better manager than Postecoglou, so throw Gregory’s name in. John is hot on the discipline side, and he can handle big players.“

Gregory could be man to replace Frank

It isn’t a surprise that Frank has been let go in North London, having racked up a win rate of just 34 per cent this campaign.

There is a massive decision to make over the next head coach, especially with Spurs so close to the relegation zone right now.

Bringing in someone who has been there and seen it all could be a wise option, and Gregory is someone who fits that bill.

It would represent a big task for him to return to the Premier League and hit the ground running, but his man-management skills could be exactly what the Lilywhites need right now.

'Micky van de Ven to create new world-record fee' amid Tottenham and Real Madrid transfer latest - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham could soon part ways with Micky van de Ven.

Van de Ven has been linked to Liverpool in the past, but the Netherlands international remained in North London in the past two transfer windows.

That could change when the summer window opens, especially with Thomas Frank potentially close to the sack with Spurs sitting 15th in the Premier League.

His defensive partner, Cristian Romero, has come under massive pressure at Tottenham, so a move away to an elite side might be on the back of the 24-year-old’s mind.

That could see van de Ven be open to a Tottenham Hotspur Stadium exit, with a Real Madrid switch potentially on the cards.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Micky van de Ven may leave Tottenham in the summer

It says a lot that van de Ven has shone during shocking Tottenham performances, with the draw away to Burnley being a recent example.

The Dutchman has been consistently excellent for the Lilywhites, so it makes little sense for him to be featuring in a side that could be destined for a relegation battle.

Even if Spurs drag themselves further up the Premier League, the ex-Wolfsburg man may still see his future away from N17.

Former scout Bryan King has backed the defender as the best player available to Frank, but believes it is his various talents that could prompt interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “As long as he stays clear of injury, he’s Tottenham’s best player.

“He’s without a doubt a top-class player. He’s quick, he can defend, and he’s a big asset.

“I imagine he’ll be of interest to plenty of clubs after the World Cup.

“You won’t be looking at any less than £100m for him because he’s got years on his side as well. He could go to any team, in any league.

“I think he’d be a hit anywhere.

“If Real Madrid are looking for a defender, which they are, they’ll be interested.

“Manchester City got Guehi, but they will still be looking at a player of his quality.“

Van de Ven could join Real Madrid for record fee

There aren’t many better centre-backs out there right now than the Spurs man, especially with his wide-ranging talents.

Van de Ven is unique in his pace and ability to drive forward, while also being an excellent defender in his own right.

That could prompt Real Madrid or Manchester City into spending that £100m on his signature, something that would represent a world record fee for a defender.

World record transfer fees for defenders:

The Spurs man could sit at the top of the tree ahead of some big names, with seven of the top 10 being deals within the Premier League.

Van de Ven could buck the trend and become the first to break into the top 10 for a move from the Premier League to elsewhere, if he is to join Real Madrid.

Tottenham’s relegation fears have now been made real after a damaging 2-1 loss to Newcastle United on Tuesday.

Spurs hosted Eddie Howe’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a crucial Premier League clash for both managers.

Thomas Frank has been under increasing pressure at Tottenham, and the result is exactly the opposite of what the Dane needed.

Joe Willock had a goal ruled out for offside in the first half before Malick Thiaw gave the Magpies the lead heading into the break shortly after.

Archie Gray volleyed home an equaliser for the hosts before Jacob Ramsay curled the winning effort past Guglielmo Vicario to seal the win.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Everything good for Tottenham came through Xavi Simons

Xavi Simons was pure livewire for the Lilywhites, and the only shame is that he’s not being played through the middle for Tottenham.

Spurs fans will be frustrated that they haven’t seen this version of the Dutchman consistently, as his £51million price tag has yet to be fully justified.

He’s had his critics this season, but the numbers from his performance against Newcastle speak for themselves.

Simons created the most chances in the game with five, and recorded a pass accuracy of 89 per cent, while also chipping in with 10 defensive actions.

As highlighted in the Sofascore graphic above, Simons grabbed a 7.9 rating, as his performance may have gone under the radar.

Yes, his yellow card for a dive was silly, but he’s young, and he’ll learn. It feels like the 22-year-old could be one of the biggest winners if Frank is to be sacked.

Yves Bissouma was atrocious vs Newcastle

Yves Bissouma has recently come back into the fold for the Lilywhites, and maybe Spurs fans will be wishing he never.

The midfielder has faced off-the-field issues this season that go beyond his injury problems, and it seems like Tottenham missed a trick by seeking his sale in the winter window.

The 29-year-old won just 33 per cent of his ground duels and made just three defensive contributions in a horror 24-touch showing that deservedly got him hooked at halftime, with Joao Palhinha acting as his replacement.

Now, Bissouma’s career at Tottenham looks finished, and the Lilywhites need to start prioritising starting players who are going to be here for the long term.

Dejan Kulusevski injury timeline becomes clearer as Tottenham star set for extended absence - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham continue to be frustrated as they wait for Dejan Kulusevski’s return from injury.

Kulusevski suffered a knee injury in May 2025 during a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, which forced him to miss Tottenham‘s Europa League final win over Man United.

The 25-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball in anger for Spurs since then, and his star quality has been missed in Thomas Frank‘s team this season.

Despite his injury problem, Kulusevski was strongly linked with a move to Man City in the summer, but no deal materialised as his return from injury remains an eagerly awaited event in N17.

Dejan Kulusevski injury update drops from Sweden

Napoli were also heavily credited with an interest in Kulusevski ahead of the January transfer window, but just as with the reported Man City interest, nothing came of it.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Frank left Kulusevski out of his Champions League squad for the knockout stages last week, indicating that the attacking midfielder was some way off being fit to play again.

However, his timeline for a return to action had remained pretty unclear, but a light has now been shed on when Spurs could expect to have Kulusevski back.

But it’s not the news that anyone connected with the Lilywhites would’ve been hoping for, as the talismanic attacker is still not close to fitness.

As per a report from Swedish news outlet Sportbladet, they have revealed that Kulusevski is expected to remain sidelined for longer than first feared.

It’s stated that the expectation is that he’ll miss Sweden’s World Cup semi-final play-off game against Ukraine on 26 March, with something “miraculous” needing to happen if he’s to make that fixture.

Therefore, it looks as though Tottenham can rule out a return for Kulusevski until April at the earliest.

Frank may not get Kulusevski back in time to save his Spurs job

It has to be said that, however you may feel about Frank’s performance as Tottenham manager this season, he’s not received a kind hand whatsoever when it comes to injuries.

Having both James Maddison and Kulusevski available in attack could’ve completely transformed the way his Spurs team plays, and would’ve allowed a fairer assessment to be made of his performance in the job.

But, football can be a cruel game, and Frank is now running out of road in North London, but a Kulusevski return could be the last-minute lifesaving moment he requires.

However, that may come too late for him.

Darren Bent makes Cristian Romero plea to Tottenham chiefs after Man United red – ‘No sympathy’

Cristian Romero has come in for heavy criticism following his Old Trafford antics.

Tottenham were beaten 2-0 by Man United on Saturday, piling further pressure on under-fire boss Thomas Frank.

However, the trajectory of the game was drastically altered in the 29th minute, as Romero was shown a straight red card for his foul on Casemiro.

Romero will now miss Tottenham’s next four Premier League games, starting with Spurs’ clash against Newcastle United on Tuesday evening.

Darren Bent believes Tottenham ‘can do much better’ than Cristian Romero

There have been some suggestions that Romero could have his Tottenham captaincy stripped from him following his United sending off, which is his second red card of the season so far.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Romero has been one of the first names on the Tottenham teamsheet since first joining from Atalanta in 2021, but the 27-year-old has struggled to stay in referees’ good books since his arrival in N17.

However, this season in particular has been a particularly poor one, disciplinary-wise, for the Argentine international, with eight yellow cards and two reds from just 21 Premier League games.

And, his dismissal against United does have the feel of being a watershed one in his Spurs career, as the reaction from many connected with the Lilywhites has largely been one of, that’s enough now.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on Tuesday, that certainly seems to be how Darren Bent feels about the Spurs captain, too, as he’s urged Tottenham chiefs to move on from Romero.

“That tackle there, especially after you come out and criticise the board or whoever you’re subliminally criticising, and you’re supposed to be the Spurs captain, and you go and do that?” Bent said.

“I’ve got no sympathy for him whatsoever…Stupid challenge, but as I said, you’re going to come out and criticise the board, and criticise whoever you want to criticise, you’ve got to put a level of performance in, and you haven’t.

“You’ve got yourself sent off again, and at the end of the season, I’m looking at that from a Tottenham perspective and going, ‘they can find better’.”

Romero frustration boils down to his otherwise impressive numbers

Bent is right in the respect that Tottenham could find a much more reliable centre-back than Romero, in terms of having a player you trust not to make rash decisions and pick up cards.

However, when you look at his actual numbers from this season, the frustration with the Argentine becomes abundantly clear: he’s actually a very good player.

As per Sofascore, Romero has had four team of the week inclusions, recorded a pass accuracy of 87 per cent, completed 78 per cent of his dribbles and won 71 per cent of his aerial duels respectively.

Those are superb numbers that rank among the very best Premier League central defenders this season, but if Romero can’t stop hurting his team with the number of cards he receives, Spurs may well have to move on from him.
