‘Archie Gray the only exemption as Tottenham stars play for their future under Roberto De Zerbi’ - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Archie Gray is the only exception from a possible fire sale at Tottenham Hotspur under Roberto De Zerbi.

De Zerbi was appointed as Spurs boss on 31 March, after agreeing to take over for the final seven matches of the campaign, which was the sticking point.

The ex-Brighton man will now get to work, figuring out who should and should not be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

Gray has been in fine form recently, and it has now been claimed that he will not be fighting for his future at the North London club.

Tottenham have a lot of work to do in terms of both incomings and outgoings, and the new manager will have a key say in all of it.

Why is Gray the only exception for Tottenham?

John Wenham rubbished reports linking Tottenham starlet Gray with a move to Liverpool and believes he is the only one who is safe from a potential exit.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “All the players are now playing for their future at the club.

“The only one that should be exempt from that is Archie Gray, because he’s performed exceptionally well while the rest of the players have really underperformed.

“It’s really interesting to see how they will react to that, and instead of them knowing that it’s another interim and the manager’s going anyway at the end of the season.

“It doesn’t matter how we perform, they now know they’re playing for their futures.”

How has Gray performed recently?

Gray has been the standout player in recent weeks for the Lilywhites, and he should be the one that they build the team around.

In the last five matches, he has recorded a total of 261 touches, showing his willingness to get on the ball and try to make things happen.

He has made 28 passes into the final third, with seven chances created, showing an increasing ability to find teammates in promising positions.

Defensively, he has made two tackles, four interceptions and 31 ball recoveries, proving that he can be effective on that side of the ball, too.

If Spurs are to stay in the top-flight, they need the former Leeds man to be on top form, and he will likely be a key part of De Zerbi’s plans going forward.

Martin Ho says Tottenham Women can ‘look back with pride’ despite recent setbacks - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Martin Ho insists Tottenham Hotspur Women can reflect on their season with pride despite a difficult run of results as of late.

Spurs have lost their last three matches in the Women’s Super League, starting poorly since returning from the pause, but remain fifth in the standings with three to play.

The Lilywhites are preparing for a huge FA Cup quarter-final clash against Chelsea on Easter Monday, as they look to make one last statement after what has been a campaign full of progress.

While European hopes are gone, the term itself has been a big step forward following on from last season’s 11th place finish.

Tottenham boss Ho has made it clear that recent results should not overshadow the bigger picture.

Martin Ho highlights Tottenham progress despite stuttering form

Since arriving from SK Brann last summer, Ho has overseen a remarkable turnaround in North London.

The club surpassed last season’s tally of 20 points all the way back in January, with Spurs now sitting on 29 points, behind the established elite sides of Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

“We have come a long way off the pitch and on it with the infrastructure and resources around the players,” Ho told the BBC.

“We have come a long way off the pitch and on it with the infrastructure and resources around the players.

“We have put foundations in place that enable us to be successful moving forward and to evolve the squad.”

Despite their recent dip in form, Ho remains confident in the trajectory of his side.

“We can’t let two or three of these results cover up the work we’ve done so far in this short space of time. I think it’s remarkable what we’ve done,” he added.

“There’s been huge progress. We can look at it with a lot of pride.”

The Tottenham manager also pointed to the importance of maintaining belief heading into a key stage of the season, saying: “We can definitely build from this and it’s a good platform.”

Chelsea cup tie offers big chance for Tottenham to prove themselves

West London outfit Chelsea sit second in the WSL standings, nine points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.

The campaign has been described as a transitional one by many associated with the league, but the quality is still there, with their stature in the women’s game going hand in hand with this.

For Spurs, the chance is there to test themselves against one of the league’s elite one last time this season, before they themselves aim to continue pushing for the top spots in the coming years.

With European hopes faded, the FA Cup is the final chance that Spurs have to end the season on a high, with just three league matches remaining.

Unlike recent meetings with Manchester City and Arsenal, Monday’s cup tie has something big on the line for Spurs, in a semi-final spot.

Heading into next term, Ho will be looking to further progress and challenge those at the top on a more consistent basis.

Not only does his side have the chance to test themselves once again, they also have the chance to cause a huge upset at Kingsmeadow in the season’s final months.

Mohammed Kudus is edging closer to a return to Tottenham Hotspur, which will be a major boost for Roberto De Zerbi.

Tottenham’s current predicament comes down to a multitude of factors, but perhaps none quite as important as their extensive injury list.

Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Kudus are just three of the players who have missed most, if not all, of the current campaign.

However, Kudus is edging closer to his return from injury, and it will be the boost that De Zerbi so desperately needs.

Mohammed Kudus return edges closer

Prior to his sacking, Igor Tudor claimed that it would not be long until Kudus is back in contention, and while next weekend’s trip to Sunderland may come too soon, it may not be much longer.

And aside from his goals and assists, of which he has seven in the Premier League this season, Kudus will bring plenty back to this disjointed Tottenham side that could steer them to safety.

First and foremost, his ability on the ball is up there with the best in the division, having completed 51 per cent of his attempted dribbles this season, with a total of 52 completed.

It places him among the top 12.2 per cent of Premier League wingers for that metric.

On top of that, Kudus’ ability to create something from nothing will be vital to their survival hopes, with an average of 1.34 chances created per game and 1.63 successful crosses per game.

His return will give a huge boost to De Zerbi, and one that Tudor was never afforded the luxury of.

Who else could return for Spurs in April?

Many of Tottenham’s injuries are long-term, but they are expected to welcome several members of their squad back in the next few weeks should their recoveries go to plan.

Among those include Guglielmo Vicario, Rodrigo Bentancur and Ben Davies, with several other players who have suffered minor knocks also set to return.

De Zerbi will need as close to a full squad as he can have at Tottenham if he is to keep them in the Premier League ahead of the final seven games of the season.

Tottenham: Fraser Forster would’ve been better option than Guglielmo Vicario in 2025-26 - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur let Fraser Forster leave at the expiration of his contract last summer, which is looking like a considerable mistake given Guglielmo Vicario’s struggles this season.

The 38-year-old had been with Tottenham since the summer of 2022, when he joined on a free transfer from Southampton.

A six-cap England international, Forster made 34 appearances in all competitions during his three years in N17, as he largely played a backup role for the Lilywhites.

Now with Bournemouth, the veteran shot-stopper is back in the Premier League as the Cherries’ number two, after they picked him up in January on six-month deal.

However, with Tottenham facing a relegation run-in, there should be a feeling of regret over their decision to let Forster leave last summer, as his numbers compared to Vicario’s prove.

How do Fraser Forster and Guglielmo Vicario’s stats compare?

Vicario’s Tottenham future is uncertain as we head towards the end of the season, and the re-opening of the transfer window.

The 29-year-old has not enjoyed a good campaign in North London, with 50 goals conceded and only seven clean sheets kept in 31 Premier League games.

Meanwhile, Forster started seven times in the league for Tottenham last season, conceding 15 goals and keeping just the one clean sheet.

However, when you delve deeper into their underlying stats, it’s clear just how much more reliable Forster was in between the sticks for Spurs, and doesn’t shine a particularly positive light on Vicario’s campaign so far.

As per Sofascore, Forster prevented 1.90 goals in the Premier League last season, whereas Vicario has currently prevented -5.22.

Forster also has a better save percentage (66 per cent vs 62 per cent), made zero errors leading to goals compared to the Italians’ two, and conceded just twice from outside the box, whereas Vicario has let in 11 from over 18 yards out.

Tottenham could’ve used Forster’s experience now

Sometimes, sticking with an experienced player – especially a goalkeeper – over a younger one is the way to go, and that’s perhaps what Tottenham should’ve done in relation to Forster and Vicario.

It’s easy to say that with hindsight, of course, and Forster wasn’t superb during his time with Tottenham by any means, but he was solid, and even that would’ve been good enough in goal for Spurs this term.

Vicario can look like the answer one week and the problem the next, whereas Forster never looked like either, and that was sort of the point.

His experience and nous provided a decent temporary foundation in goal from which to play from, but it also meant that he was never going to be the long-term solution either.

But in a time of such a crisis that Tottenham find themselves currently in, being able to field a goalkeeper of Forster’s age and wisdom could’ve been a considerably more consistent and safer option, rather than rolling the Vicario dice every week.

Martin Ho will have to take notice of Grace Bellwood as Tottenham unearth rising star - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Martin Ho may have to call on a rising Tottenham Hotspur Women academy star after Grace Bellwood’s hat-trick for the Under-19s.

Tottenham have had an impressive season in the Women’s Super League, with Ho’s side currently fifth in the division with three games to go.

One more victory would secure Spurs a record WSL points haul in Ho’s first season in charge, but they have lost three games in a row.

A total of 31 goals in 19 games does not make for bad reading, but shipping 36 in that period is less impressive.

And while Ho will be happy with his attacking options, free-scoring Tottenham youngster Bellwood may be one to watch for the first-team soon.

Tottenham U19s edge closer to silverware

A 13-minute second-half hat-trick from Bellwood secure Tottenham’s Under-19s a 5-2 Capital Cup quarter-final win over London Bees on Thursday.

Sandy Martins gave the visitors the lead against the run of play, before Cruz Fuller-Fagan grabbed an equaliser early in the second half.

Then it was the Bellwood show as the teenage forward grabbed a quickfire treble, one of which involved a superb finish into the top corner.

The Bees pulled a goal back through an own goal by Holly-Mae Elmes, before Tottenham restored their three-goal cushion through Grace Breen.

Tottenham are now into the semi-finals of the competition for the second year running, with a test against London neighbours Fulham to come in the last four on 19 April.

In addition to her long-range strike, Bellwood scored a neat first-time volley, before slotting home from the penalty spot. It seems she has a bright future ahead of her.

Tottenham boss hails ‘brilliant’ win

Under-19 boss Nick Hardy could not contain his delight after seeing his Tottenham side put London Bees to the sword at Cheshunt.

Hardy added that he was “super proud” of his players, as his team begins to dream of lifting some silverware.

He told Tottenham’s website: “It was brilliant. This shows a real reflection on the programme as a whole; the group and the hard work that the players put in, day in, day out, the staff and their support network around them. I’m super proud of them.

“We had enough entries in that first half but just lacked that cutting edge in the final third and purpose in and around the box, so that’s what we exactly asked of them at half time.

“We said those moments will still come about if we show that intent, play with our style and the final third behaviours – and that’s exactly what they went out and did. They were direct with a purpose, creative and relentless and even when we went 2-1, you could see that they wanted more.

“I’m super pleased for them all, it’s exactly what we asked for that second 45 minutes. But, as I said to the group at the end, we go into that semi-final wanting to compete. We’re one step away from where we want to be which is the final and competing for silverware.”

Tony Pulis 'cannot believe' Roberto De Zerbi's Tottenham contract due to 'consistent' boardroom change - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tony Pulis is shocked that Roberto De Zerbi has signed a five-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur due to the “constant changes” at Spurs’ boardroom level.

De Zerbi has committed his long-term future to Tottenham, as he hopes to steer the Lilywhites to Premier League survival.

Given the nature of his five-year deal, it appears highly unlikely that Spurs will be able to terminate his contract this summer should they be relegated to the Championship.

As such, both in the length of the contract and the nature of De Zerbi’s tactical requirements and complexities, appointing him is a clear statement from Tottenham that he’s not here to be a ‘firefighter’.

Numerous Tottenham managers over the years have been critical of how the Club is ran at boardroom level too, and it’s this that has Pulis surprised that De Zerbi has both taken the job, and with such a lengthy contract.

What has Tony Pulis said about Roberto De Zerbi and Tottenham?

De Zerbi has a huge job on his hands at Spurs, as not only is there a myriad of short-term problems to solve, but now that we know he’s here for the long-term, there’s also plenty of issues that need addressing beyond this season.

One of which is going to be how De Zerbi and Tottenham chiefs work together when it comes to the transfer market.

A coach of the Italians’ standard is likely to want a significant input and say on player recruitment, but in the modern world of football, that’s increasingly not how things work.

We’re living in the age where the vast majority of the scouting and recruitment is done by heads of football and other figures in suits, with the manager left to coach up the players they’re delivered.

And, speaking in his BBC Sport column, former manager Pulis is worried that this element, alongside Tottenham’s tendency to make hierarchical change, will work against De Zerbi in N17.

“Behind the scenes they have not only moved on from long-serving executive Daniel Levy, who left in September after almost 25 years in the role, they have also consistently changed important roles in their management structure,” Pulis said.

“By doing that, I’ve got no doubt that the club has impinged on their coach’s ability to construct and sustain a stable players’ identity model, which could and would instil a much more aligned system on the pitch.

“As I’ve mentioned in previous columns, today’s managers and coaches are more or less given players to coach rather than choosing signings themselves.

“If you are the manager and you have real differences of opinion with the people making those decisions, or there are constant changes above you, then goodness knows how you can be successful, whoever you are.

“With that in mind, and also looking at where Spurs have gone wrong with some of their player recruitment in recent years.

“I cannot believe that a manager of Roberto de Zerbi’s standing would sign a five-year contract without him having some say on signings and the new players who will be coming into the club.”

Spurs chiefs have to work closely with De Zerbi on transfers

As aforementioned, De Zerbi’s tactical philosophy is not only intense, but it’s very rigid in the sense that either a player works in his system, or they don’t.

Therefore, leaving it up to the recruitment staff to simply sign players largely off their own volition would be a dangerous game to play with a coach like De Zerbi in charge.

Not only because you risk throwing away money on players that he doesn’t want, but if that was to happen, the 46-year-old is not the type to refrain from speaking his mind.

So, Spurs chiefs have to give more autonomy to De Zerbi regarding transfers than perhaps their more recent appointments.

Tottenham: Roberto De Zerbi cannot rely on Radu Dragusin in relegation fight

Tottenham: Roberto De Zerbi cannot rely on Radu Dragusin in relegation fight - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur cannot rely too heavily on Radu Dragusin as the Premier League relegation battle nears its conclusion.

Roberto De Zerbi has just been sworn in as Tottenham’s new head coach as they try to stave off relegation to the Championship.

The Italian has just seven games to keep Spurs in the Premier League, with the north London team just one point and one place above the relegation zone.

The former Brighton and Marseille boss’ first game in charge is a tricky match away to Sunderland on 12 April, which gives the 46-year-old extra time to implement his style of play into his players.

But one Tottenham player who is not at the same level as some of his defensive counterparts is Romania international Dragusin.

Radu Dragusin’s inferior Tottenham stats

Dragusin missed the first few months of the season as he recovered from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, with fitness issues common for the defender.

Since his return in late December, the 24-year-old hasn’t looked all that convincing. However, very few of his teammates have delivered, either.

According to Sofascore, Dragusin has yet to keep a clean sheet for Tottenham this season in the league, and his total duels won percentage is a lowly 49.

He is at 35 per cent for ground duels won, he has made two errors leading to a goal, but the Romanian does average 5.3 clearances per game.

This, and more, highlights why Kevin Danso, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are preferred to Dragusin at the back.

Moreover, he is the least successful of the quartet when it comes to ground duels won; he’s lost possession more times than they have, and his average of tackles won per 90 minutes (0.6) is below Danso (1.1), Romero (2.5), and Van de Ven (1.1).

In a rare start against Fulham last month, this Sofascore graphic shows he struggled against the Cottagers in a 2-1 loss, losing possession a wild 13 times.

The only area he shades them is with blocked shots and interceptions per 90 (1.9). His agent keeps talking up a big, eye-catching move, but for the time being, he is the fourth choice at Tottenham and needs to focus on that.

Can Cristian Romero keep his calm for Tottenham?

Tottenham captain Romero is undoubtedly a quality player, but his combustible nature could cost Spurs their place in the Premier League.

The Argentina international, who recently represented his country, has been sent off twice this season and received eight yellow cards.

But if he can keep a lid on his emotions, Romero is Tottenham’s best centre-back when it comes to ground duels won (61.6%) and has the highest Sofascore rating of 7.11 among Danso, Van de Ven, and Dragusin.

He and Van de Ven have four goals apiece, while Romero has also created four big chances.

He tops the charts for tackles per match (2.5), and if the Argentine is on the pitch, they tend to do better with him than without him.

Romero is likely to leave Tottenham this summer, whichever division they are in. But if he can keep it together for the next two months, he may maintain their top-flight status.

Mikey Moore admits he wishes he could help Tottenham Hotspur more in their relegation fight, while opening up on his loose plans for next season.

Moore is currently starring on loan at Rangers this term, as he tries to secure Danny Rohl’s side the Scottish Premiership title.

The scenario is very different at Tottenham, who are just one point and one place above the Premier League’s relegation zone.

The 18-year-old has made it clear that he is loving his time at Ibrox and how Rangers fans have embraced him this season.

Amid the speculation over Moore’s Tottenham future, the teenager stressed he wants to play for Spurs one day but left the door open for a Rangers return, too.

Mikey Moore could have helped Tottenham

Tottenham academy star Moore has made 40 appearances for Rangers this season, and is approaching double figures for goal contributions.

He is still in the fledgling years of his career, but the fact that both ex-Rangers manager Russell Martin and current boss Rohl have leaned on him so heavily, in multiple positions, suggests Moore has a bright future.

According to Sofascore, he has a passing accuracy of 79 per cent, which rises to 89 in his own half, has created six big chances, and averages 3.7 ball recoveries and 1.1 key passes per game.

While he is loving life at Rangers, Moore can’t help but be saddened by Tottenham’s plight.

He told The Athletic: “It’s tough to see people you care about and some of your mates going through a tough time. It’s a club I care about so much. For us to be in the position we’re in is not nice.

“Sometimes I wish I could go back and help but there are some top players there who should be able to help get us out of the position we’re in and push on next season. There is enough quality in that team to get out of it.”

Tottenham have a raft of injuries to players such as Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, James Maddison, and more.

While it may have been too big an ask for Moore to shine at Spurs, it might not hurt to have had him at their disposal, given their absentee list.

Moore still harbours long-term Tottenham ambitions

Despite being just 18, Moore has racked up a decent number of appearances for Tottenham’s first team since Ange Postecoglou gave him his debut.

While Tottenham have handed out very few minutes to academy graduates this season, they know they have a big talent in Moore. And he himself doesn’t want to give up on Tottenham, despite their struggles.

He added, “Whether it’s next year or the year after, I want to break in and make an impact.

“I helped out in some Premier League games and gave a good account of myself and in others I didn’t show enough.

“But now I’m at a point where I can make an impact. If that opportunity comes I would love to get a hold of it.”

It remains to be seen if Moore will be back at Rangers next season, which may happen if Tottenham do stay up.

Mohammed Kudus looks set to be a key player for new Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The Ghanaian started the season in brilliant form, notching three goals and six assists, but he has not featured since the 1-1 draw with Sunderland on 4 January.

Kudus has missed 16 matches with a hamstring issue, and will be looking at a return in the coming weeks.

De Zerbi previously tried to sign the 25-year-old, and his Brighton side had reached an agreement on a fee with Ajax, before he signed for West Ham.

Tottenham could see the best of Kudus now that they have their top target in place in the dugout.

Why Mohammed Kudus will be a key player for Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham

John Wenham believes the previous interest in Kudus, who joined Tottenham in the summer in a £55million deal, means he will a starter for the new boss.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “There is some talk amongst Tottenham fans that Mohamed Kudus will be available to feature in that game at Sunderland, and I retweeted a tweet from 2023 on Tuesday, which was from David Ornstein, that Brighton had agreed a fee with Ajax for Mohammed Kudus.

“They must have been subsequently gazumped by West Ham, but it’s interesting that he was described in that article as ‘a key target for De Zerbi’.

“We can already see straight away that he is going to be a key player for him, not just over these seven games, but moving forward, which is music to my ears, because I think Kudus has been fantastic when he started the season.

“It is no surprise to me that our massive dip in form coincided with when he came out the side at the start of the season. All our creativity was coming through Kudus, obviously in the absence of Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison.

“To lose him as well was a huge, huge blow that I don’t think has been spoken about enough in the media, but the fact that he is a Roberto De Zerbi guy and someone that he wanted is very promising.”

Why De Zerbi is the man to unleash peak Kudus

If anyone can get the best out of Kudus, it is De Zerbi, as his system is very well suited to attacking players.

The Ghana star’s pace should give his side a very solid outlet and surely lead to better results if he can return to the form that he started his Spurs career in.

Whether he can do that, though, remains to be seen, but it is a tantalising prospect for Lilywhites supporters.

Tottenham fans to pay the price as new Championship reveal shows Lewis family incompetence

Tottenham Hotspur‘s current predicament means the Lewis family might be the most unpopular owners in the Premier League right now.

Joe Lewis has been under pressure to sell Tottenham, with fans furious at how the club has been run as they edge towards Premier League relegation.

Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor have come and gone, leaving the squad in a worse place than when they arrived, but the blame doesn’t solely rest on them.

The recruitment over the last two years has been simply abysmal, with Ange Postecoglou the last manager to feel as if he wasn’t backed by the board.

Tottenham’s poor transfer strategy has come under scathing criticism, and given their spending over the last year, the possibility of seeing them in the Championship next season seems unthinkable.

Tottenham have spent nearly as much as the entire Championship since summer 2025

When looking at the recruitment in the winter transfer window, it’s safe to say that Frank needed a lot more, with Conor Gallagher’s arrival from Atletico Madrid being the only significant piece of business.

Having sold Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, who was last season’s top scorer in all competitions, Tottenham certainly didn’t have a successful window as they failed to replace him.

However, despite not finding an adequate replacement, Spurs have still spent an extortionate amount of money over the last 12 months.

Since the start of the 2025 summer transfer window, Tottenham have spent £218.2million on players, which is shocking, as they sit 17th in the table and just one point clear of the relegation zone.

It’s staggering that Tottenham find themselves in this position, and while Roberto De Zerbi has a huge task on his hands, the Lewis family are the real culprits.

The fact that Spurs could be competing with teams that are so financially inferior to them next season is gross negligence from everyone behind the scenes.

How has Tottenham’s recruitment policy gone so wrong?

Unfortunately for the fans, they’re the ones who have to suffer in this scenario, which is the least they deserve.

In February, technical director Johan Lange confirmed that Spurs were saving their money for the summer, which is completely ridiculous.

Under Postecoglou, they signed three teenagers and Dominic Solanke, which resulted in them finishing 17th but winning the Europa League.

Frank came through the door and spent big on the likes of Xavi Simons and Mohamed Kudus, although both players haven’t adapted too well to life in N17.

Signing players who have the potential to grow into superstars isn’t a strong method for a club like Spurs, which should have incredibly high ambitions.

The Lewis family are now paying the price for their poor decisions, and should Tottenham drop down to the Championship, it would be an embarrassment of riches.
