Description

Mauricio Pochettino may not have won any silverware during his time as Tottenham manager, but that hasn’t stopped fans from dreaming of a potential return to North London for the Argentine.

Spurs are currently facing loud calls to sack Thomas Frank after yet another disappointing Premier League campaign, in which he’s really struggled to improve on the domestic performances that Ange Postecoglou oversaw last term.

While Postecoglou managed to win the Europa League and end Spurs’ near-two-decade wait for a trophy, Frank barely seems capable of winning against another English team, let alone silverware.

The pressure on Frank has led to calls for Pochettino to be re-hired as Tottenham‘s next manager in the summer after he’s finished managing the USA at the World Cup.

However, new developments across the Atlantic should put paid to any shot Pochettino had of making a comeback at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino wants Timothy Weah silence over World Cup ticket prices

Pochettino has looked poised to become the next Tottenham manager after rumours of Spurs potentially hiring an interim boss to see out the rest of this season if Frank is sacked.

However, Spurs need to be giving the Argentine a wide berth, after he publicly berated USA international Timothy Weah for simply saying that the 2026 World Cup ticket prices are too high.

Weah, who’s currently on loan at Marseille from Juventus, said: “It’s too expensive, many real fans will miss the matches.”

Of course, the USA are joint-hosts of the competition, so for an American player to be speaking out against the competition’s organisers and FIFA, is something that should be commended by all football fans across the world.

The Football Supporters’ Association has called the World Cup ticket prices “scandalous” after some of the most expensive football tickets in the history of the sport were put on sale, with the cheapest final tickets costing over £3,100.

The average football fan has been well and truly priced out of attending most matches. But USA manager Pochettino just wants Weah to keep his mouth shut and keep on playing football.

“My job, my duty, is to prepare the team, the United States national team, in the best possible way to perform. We are not politicians. We are sports people and we can only talk about our work,” said Pochettino.

“The players should speak on the field, by playing football, not off it; it is not their duty to evaluate ticket prices.“

Pochettino’s statement ‘tone-deaf’

Former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop, speaking on Futbol Americas can’t believe that Pochettino would so openly try to shut down one of his players’ opinions.

“It’s disappointing, and that’s as nicely as I can put it,” said ex-West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.

“Athletes have been using their platform for quite some time. The challenge to athletes using their platform has been debunked continuously.

“Given what’s happening off the field, politically, it couldn’t be more tone deaf.

“This is harkening back to 60 or 70 years ago, this is beyond belief that in 2026 we have someone like Mauricio Pochettino making this statement, given the position he holds in this country, with its history of athletic activism.”

Pochettino is clearly more than just the USA manager for the 2026 World Cup.

He’s seemingly a puppet and a mouthpiece for FIFA.

Everything about the upcoming World Cup has been nauseating, from a so-called ‘peace prize’ for a president who wants to invade and seize new territory to the staggering ticket prices.

This isn’t a World Cup for football fans.

This is a World Cup for the wealthiest and worst people around.

Pochettino’s role in defending that means that Tottenham – and any club in England – have to avoid hiring him because he clearly doesn’t care at all about us normal football fans.

Yves Bissouma backed to play vs Man City in final Tottenham appearance before exit

Description

Yves Bissouma could play his final game for Tottenham in the clash with Manchester City.

Bissouma had fallen out of favour under Thomas Frank as several disciplinary issues came to light early in the Dane’s reign.

However, he has worked his way back in recent weeks, with injuries decimating Spurs’ options in the middle of the pitch.

With just six months left on his contract, he may well be lined up for an exit before the 2 February transfer deadline strikes.

Yves Bissouma exit claim made amid Tottenham latest

John Wenham believes that the outcast could be put in the shop window against Pep Guardiola’s side.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs had been trying to sell Bissouma earlier this month, and those efforts could be sparked again in the last few days of the window.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “The only one that could potentially happen is Bissouma, because obviously he’s still got six months left on his contract,

“If Tottenham want to make any money, but he has actually come into the team now, he started against Burnley, he was ineligible to feature in the Champions League games, that’s why he didn’t.

“He could feature against Manchester City on the weekend and with the injuries we’ve had to Lucas Bergvall, Mohammed Kudus, Ben Davies throughout the squad, you know, really long injuries, Rodrigo Bentancur, these are all three-month injuries.

“He could end up staying now and just going for free at the end of the season. So, yeah, it’ll be interesting to see what happens with him, but if there was one player to go, I would say it’s likely to be Bissouma.”

Can Bissouma redeem his Tottenham career?

The Mali ace was signed after impressing consistently at Brighton, but he has failed to show any semblance of that form in North London.

His whole stint at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been sub-par, and just because Frank is having to play him now, it likely does not change their stance on an exit.

It would be best for all parties if they were to move on, and the Lilywhites should cash in, rather than letting him in for free.

There is likely no chance for redemption for Bissouma, despite the fact that has been forced into the side lately.

Description

Thomas Frank insists he did not fear for his Tottenham job amid fan unrest earlier this month.

Tottenham‘s 2-1 home loss to West Ham on 17 January led to strong suggestions that Frank would be sacked by Spurs.

In fact, Tim Sherwood suggested it was inevitable Frank would be sacked as Spurs languished in the lower reaches of the Premier League.

But Frank survived that loss, as well as last weekend’s 2-2 draw away at a poor Burnley side, before overseeing an impressive 2-0 Champions League win at Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek.

And it has now been reported Frank has the support of Tottenham chiefs and is not at immediate threat of being sacked.

Thomas Frank speaks out on Tottenham ‘sack’ chants

Tottenham fans have called for Frank’s head repeatedly this season, most recently during last weekend’s draw at Turf Moor.

On the back of the reports that Frank’s job is safe, the Dane has now spoken out for the first time in an interview with Sky Sports.

“I would say it’s not about me, but I understand how football works, of course. It’s easier to only blame the head coach,” Frank said when asked if he feared for his job.

“I think the feeling we have is a very committed playing squad. It’s a very committed staff. It’s a very committed leadership at the top of the club, in Vinai [Venkatesham] and Johan [Lange].”

Frank also commented on the chants from fans, saying: “I think when you’re in a big club like Tottenham, with huge ambitions, and a fantastic, massive fanbase, and you’re not where you want to be, there will always be noise.

“That I expect, and it should be noise. What I know is that we will get there in the end, and we’ll pull through this. Then we’ll be in a better place, and then there will be less noise.”

Frank has basically said what was expected, but it remains to be seen just how close he was to being sacked just a week or so ago.

Who can realistically replace Frank at Tottenham?

Even accounting for the win over Frankfurt, which secured automatic progression to the last 16 of the Champions League, the vast majority of Spurs fans still want Frank gone.

The one saving grace the former Brentford boss has is Spurs chiefs may feel there are no realistic contenders out there to replace him right now.

However, Oliver Glasner will be leaving Crystal Palace in the summer and seems a wise choice to go after if Frank is sacked.

Xabi Alonso is also out of work, but he is more likely to hold out for a different job.

If results do not improve in the league, and Frank is indeed sacked, it may well be that John Heitinga is the man to step in.

Heitinga was recently appointed as part of Frank’s backroom staff and therefore already has one foot through the door, so to speak.

All Frank can do for now is try to build some momentum, but with Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Arsenal up next, that will be much easier said than done.

Callum Olusesi is on the verge of leaving Tottenham on a loan-to-buy basis.

The 18-year-old midfielder has only ever made one senior appearance for Spurs, with Thomas Frank failing to play him since taking charge of the North London club in the summer.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported via his website on Friday that Olusesi is set to join Serie A club Torino on loan for the rest of the season.

It is understood that the Italians will then have the option to buy the teenager permanently in the summer.

Callum Olusesi on his way back to London after Torino medical

Di Marzio adds that Olusesi has already completed his medical in Italy and that he’s now currently travelling back to London in order to get his work permit.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Since leaving the European Union in 2020, British footballers have to apply for the right to play within EU countries.

With the transfer deadline looming, it’s unlikely that this will be a long process and that Olusesi will complete his loan-to-buy move in the next couple of days.

It remains to be seen what fee Torino are willing to pay to sign him permanently.

However, The Standard reported earlier this week that European clubs had bids for Olusesi worth £6million rejected by Spurs earlier this week.

You would imagine that if Tottenham had accepted a loan-to-buy deal with Torino, the overall fees would exceed the amount that Hoffenheim and PSV reportedly offered.

What Ange Postecoglou said about Callum Olusesi

It was former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou who handed Olusesi his one and only senior appearance for the North London club.

He earned it last January, when he came off the bench late on in a 3-2 win over Hoffenheim in the Europa League.

Postecoglou also named Olusesi in 14 of his matchday squads in the Premier League last season. However, the youngster failed to make an appearance off the bench.

Frank has only named him on the bench once in the league since, which was in the 0-0 draw with Brentford on New Year’s Day.

When he was in charge of Spurs, Postecoglou clearly thought highly of Olusesi.

Speaking last January after his debut against Hoffenheim, he said: “Yeah, we’ve had quite a few young boys training with the group.

“And obviously with the situation we’re in, it’s allowed them to understand what it takes to even train at this level and Callum’s been great.

“He’s obviously a very talented young player and he’s one of the ones we’ve got high hopes for.

“Obviously he got a taste of it (Thursday) night, which is great for him and for his family.

“Hopefully it gives him encouragement, but he’s still got a long way to go in terms of becoming part of the first team.“

Raheem Sterling is being linked with a move to Tottenham after he was released by Chelsea this week.

The 31-year-old, who’s been capped 82 times by England, failed to make a single appearance for the Blues this term before it was announced that his contract was terminated after a mutual agreement between all parties.

With just over 48 hours to go until the winter transfer window closes, Sterling is an experienced free agent option for many clubs that are keen on signing a new, versatile forward with a point to prove.

Burnley and Fulham have been mentioned, but Tottenham are also a surprise option for the former Arsenal loanee.

Tottenham show interest in Raheem Sterling as desperation revealed

According to iNews, Sterling was earning £325,000-a-week on his deal at Chelsea before it was terminated this week.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is understood that the Jamaica-born forward is desperate to play football again, with it now being 251 days since he last played a competitive match.

Champions League clubs are reportedly keen on Sterling, with Tottenham among them.

Michael Hincks reports that if Sterling were to make the move to Spurs, he would only need to play for Manchester United to complete his Premier League Big Six bingo card.

However, the iNews journalist claims that Spurs fans are unlikely to be happy with Sterling joining, adding that a move for him “hardly screams ambition“.

What role would Sterling play at Tottenham?

If Tottenham did land a deal for Sterling this winter, it’s unlikely that their fans will see him playing for them any time soon.

As mentioned, it’s been a long time since the former Manchester City and Liverpool winger kicked a ball in anger, with his last competitive appearance coming in a 2-1 win over Southampton on the final day of last season when he was on loan at Arsenal.

His season-long stint at the Emirates last season was hardly successful.

Sterling played 28 times in all competitions, scoring just one goal, which came against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup back in September 2024.

Stats by Sofascore also show that he created just four big chances across all of those appearances.

The last time Sterling scored against a Premier League club was May 2024, over a year and a half ago, when Chelsea beat Bournemouth 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

If Spurs sign Sterling, who can play on both wings, he could serve as a back-up option for Thomas Frank.

However, if he wants anywhere near the wages he was on at Chelsea, it’s a deal that the North Londoners should no doubt look to avoid.

Tottenham face stiff competition in the race for Moussa Diaby’s signature.

The former Aston Villa star moved to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad in 2024, but he fancies a move back to European football.

Inter Milan had agreed personal terms with the winger for a loan deal with a £30million buy option, but his current club have not green-lighted the move.

That may be due to the Saudi Pro League side feeling like they can secure a better fee with the Lilywhites’ interest.

Why Tottenham can beat Inter Milan to Diaby signature

John Wenham believes that John Lange will play a key role if Diaby is to move to North London before the 2 February deadline, rather than making the switch to Italy.

Lange, who is set to be Spurs’ sole director of football, with Fabio Paratici on his way out, can use his previous dealings with the player to sway the transfer.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think Tottenham will definitely be in the market for any opportunities.

“I saw there was a link with Moussa Diaby, who is in the Saudi Pro League at the moment, there was talk that it was advanced with Inter Milan.

“The reason why Tottenham have an advantage if they accelerate that move, is that it was Johan Lange, that brought him to Aston Villa, so they obviously have a working relationship.

“If Spurs were to move, it could be that the player would prefer a move back to the Premier League, I could see him fitting in as a Brennan Johnson-style replacement.

“If he was available on any sort of loan deal, I am sure Tottenham would be attentive.”

Diaby would be a great signing for Tottenham

The 26-year-old scored six goals and notched 10 assists in 38 Premier League matches for the Villans, before making the move to the Arab Peninsula.

He would add a much-needed directness to Spurs’ attack, and clearly has some sort of end product, more than what most of Frank’s attackers possess at the moment.

He could be just the tonic that the N17 outfit needs to save their season, and take them on to further glory in the near future, if they can beat their rivals to a deal.

It will an interest few days ahead of the window closing, that is for sure.

Description

Tottenham supporters were hoping to see Dane Scarlett involved in the first-team.

Scarlett is highly rated at Tottenham, and has made five appearances in the senior side so far this season under Thomas Frank.

Frank’s leadership has come under significant scrutiny, with Spurs languishing in 14th place in the Premier League.

The latest on his future has left supporters more furious than they previously were about the state of the club.

Where is Dane Scarlett going?

Scarlett has been tipped as the next Harry Kane at Spurs, and it seems he is set to follow the Bayern Munich star’s path to stardom with another loan.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham announced on X that the 21-year-old has joined Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian on loan until the end of the campaign.

They wished the young striker good luck for his temporary switch away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Why are Tottenham supporters so angry about Scarlett exit?

Scarlett’s exit is a huge problem for supporters as Spurs are still in the middle of an injury crisis, especially in their attacking ranks.

Dominic Solanke has not long returned from a serious issue, which kept him out a long time, and it may be disastrous if he reinjures himself.

That would leave Randal Kolo Muani as the only recognised striker on the books, as Richarlison, who started the season in great form, is out for the foreseeable future.

Fans are rightfully angry, with many demanding a new addition now that the youngster has been allowed to depart, as Frank’s squad has been left lacking.

One supporter took to X, saying: “Our squad is thin and you send yet another player out on loan! This club is a joke.”

Another fan said: “At this rate you’ll have to start putting fans on the bench.”

Another also spoke out, saying: “We have 4 attackers at the club. On bring of relegation fight. What on earth are we doing.”

It may well prove the right decision to loan out Scarlett in the long-run, as he will gain significant experience and hopefully score a lot of goals in Scotland, but it does not mean that supporters are happy about it.

The atmosphere in N17 is still shaky, and a lack of action in the market, while letting potential options leave on loan, will only increase tensions.

The board need to listen and bring in another attacker before the 2 February deadline, or the fanbase may become the most disillusioned that they have been in recent months.

Ange Postecoglou’s odds slashed to join London club who finalised late-January deal on Friday

Ange Postecoglou is increasingly likely to return to the Premier League after being dismissed by both Tottenham and Nottingham Forest last year.

Thomas Frank has found himself under immense pressure after being the man to replace Postecoglou in the summer.

The 60-year-old Aussie has been linked with jobs across the UK, with speculation that Celtic could re-hire the ex-Spurs boss in the summer once Martin O’Neill’s interim spell in charge is over.

However, a job could open up for Postecoglou to seize in the Premier League if he’s able to convince the powers that be that his short-lived stint at Forest was nothing but a blip in what has been a successful managerial career to date.

Crystal Palace could hire Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham News revealed at the weekend that Postecoglou was a 12/1 outsider to be the next Crystal Palace manager.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, a major bookmaker has now slashed those odds to 11/1, with it seemingly being more likely now that the former Celtic manager could take charge at Selhurst Park once Oliver Glasner leaves.

Glasner announced earlier this month that he will leave the Eagles at the end of the season, with his contract set to expire in the summer.

Despite this, it’s been a busy winter transfer window for the South London club, who finalised their latest deal on Friday by sending Danny Imray on loan to West Brom.

The Austrian has been linked with the potential vacancy at Tottenham, with speculation that Frank is facing the sack at the North London club.

What does the future hold for Thomas Frank and Ange Postecoglou?

There’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding both Spurs’ current manager and their previous one.

Postecoglou broke unwanted records for his short stint at Nottingham Forest, butchering his hopes of getting any work in the Premier League in the near future.

Looking at the way things have panned out over the last six or seven months, it’s likely that Postecoglou just wants a break from the game until the summer.

However, that works out well for him because Crystal Palace and Celtic are among the clubs who will definitely need to hire a new manager in the summer.

As for Frank and Tottenham, who knows?

Postecoglou got sacked for a lot less than what Frank is doing right now.

The Aussie won the Europa League title by beating Manchester United in the final.

Yes, he oversaw a rotten Premier League campaign, but at least Spurs were very obviously just targeting silverware on the continent instead of trying to finish in a pointless 10th place.

Frank isn’t achieving anything, and he won’t achieve anything, either.

Keith Hackett believes Tottenham and Aston Villa should face points deductions after the FA fined them both following their FA Cup incident.

It was announced by The FA on Thursday that both Tottenham and Aston Villa would be fined £125,000 each for the mass confrontation which happened in their FA Cup game on 10 January.

The FA’s statement writes that it was alleged both sides failed to ensure their players and/or officials didn’t act in improper and/or in a provocative manner after the full-time whistle had blew.

Tottenham and Aston Villa have since admitted to the charge brought against them, with the Regulatory Commission imposing the aforementioned fine on them as such.

Keith Hackett calls for points deductions after Spurs/Villa scenes

Aston Villa beat Tottenham 2-1, and the incident started when Joao Palhinha didn’t take too kindly to Ollie Watkins’ celebrations in front of the travelling Villa fans.

Some pushing and shoving by Palhinha on Watkins followed, which was spotted by a number of Villa players who began to confront the Tottenham midfielder, notably Morgan Rogers.

Eventually the situation did cool down and things came under control, but the damage had been done in regards to disciplinary action being taken against both clubs.

However, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett believes that much harsher punishments should’ve been enacted, with a points deduction recommended.

“The fines hopefully sends a message to both clubs. However, a bigger message would be to start deducting points,” Hackett said.

Points deductions might be over the top – larger fines wouldn’t be

The problem with deducting points in this incident is that it took place in the FA Cup, which would then be pretty unfair to punish both Tottenham and Aston Villa in terms of Premier League points.

Perhaps the issue as well as the solution in this scenario, and indeed others like it, is not that a fine wasn’t an acceptable course of disciplinary action, but that it wasn’t high enough to really feel like a punishment.

£125,000, whilst certainly not a sum of money one might find on the floor in the street, isn’t exactly a figure that would strike fear into the hearts of Spurs or Villa’s financial coffers, respectfully.

However, if fines were bumped up from six figures to seven for incidents such as this one, then clubs may take a more serious and proactive approach to ensuring they don’t happen.

Luca Williams-Barnett is one of the brightest prospects to come through the Tottenham academy in recent years.

Williams-Barnett signed a professional deal at Tottenham in October to reflect his status as a massive talent in North London.

The 17-year-old made his debut earlier in the campaign as Tottenham secured victory over Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup.

The midfielder hasn’t featured since but has made multiple matchday squads, including Tottenham’s recent draw away to Burnley in the Premier League.

Williams-Barnett has now taken to social media to react to the latest transfer activity after a January deal with West Ham was confirmed.

The teenager may be seen as one for the future, but that won’t stop the Lilywhites from improving their academy side elsewhere.

There has been plenty of transfer speculation surrounding many youth stars, with Damola Ajayi returning from Doncaster Rovers due to interest elsewhere.

Outgoings aren’t the only thing on the cards in N17, with a deal now confirmed to improve the situation down Hotspur Way.

Spurs confirmed the signing of Elisha Sowunmi on Friday, with a deal agreed for the West Ham talent to switch the East End for North London.

The deal has seemingly gone down well with Williams-Barnett, who has taken to Instagram to like the announcement post from Tottenham.

Former N17 academy ace Jaden Williams also liked the announcement, with current under-21 ace James Rowswell also joining the party.

Who is Tottenham academy signing Elisha Sowunmi?

The Lilywhites have agreed a deal to improve their own fortunes, while spiting a London rival in the process.

Sowunmi has completed the move after spending 10 years with the London Stadium club, where he featured across every age group.

The new signing is 18 years old and has the ability to feature as a winger or as a number 10, while also having an eye for goal.

He was West Ham’s top goalscorer at under-18 level last campaign as the Hammers secured victory in the U18 Premier League Cup.

Tottenham have now confirmed the attacker will join the under-21s squad in North London and could feature immediately after being named as eligible for Friday’s Premier League 2 clash against Everton.
