Description

Tottenham Hotspur will be eagerly anticipating the return of Luka Vuskovic, with Hamburg supporters left in awe after an immense loan spell.

Following his permanent switch to the Lilywhites last summer, the centre-back was sent to HSV for regular minutes – and it could scarcely have gone better for all parties.

An instant fan favourite at the Volksparkstadion, Vuskovic has been talismanic for the Red Shorts, who sealed promotion and a return to the top flight after a seven-year exile.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the most highly rated young defenders in Europe and could play a major role in Spurs’ rebuild.

After his final appearance in front of the Hamburg faithful, the club’s supporters were left in awe.

Hamburg fans do not want to let Luka Vuskovic go

An unbelievable presence in the backline, Vuskovic has proven crucial in this year’s survival push.

Astonishingly, the Croatian is set to finish the season as Hamburg’s top scorer, with six goals to his name.

In his final home match, the 19-year-old proved talismanic again, his first-half free kick opening the scoring in a 3-2 win over Europa League finalists Freiburg.

It has been a fantastic year overall for the Red Shorts, who have secured a finish above arch-rivals Werder Bremen on their return to the top flight.

As a result, the HSV fanbase are not quite ready to let go just yet.

Vuskovic wrote on social media: “I love this club a bit too much.

He would receive adoration from the Hamburg faithful, with the common consensus being: “We love you too Luka, we love you too.”

Alongside this, the rapturous support at the Volksparkstadion would unveil a banner reading: “Free Vuskovic.”

His performances on the pitch have, unsurprisingly, drawn high praise.

“We won’t see a centre-back of his quality at HSV for a long time,” wrote one supporter on X.

“Incredible talent, incredible player. He can achieve anything he sets his mind to.”

One supporter would joke, saying: “It could be that Vuskovic is the best footballer of all time,” while the praise continued across the fanbase.

And aptly, an X account covering Hamburg in English matched the tone of the defender, saying “I love you.”

Now, with the defender set to return to Hotspur Way over the summer, the Lilywhites will have to ensure that he is not just on the books next season, but an integral part of the coming rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi.

Tottenham must ensure that they keep Vuskovic

Naturally, the youngster has attracted attention from across the continent, with Tottenham’s form this season playing into the hands of potential suitors.

Though, should De Zerbi’s side secure their place in the Premier League, the Croatian has to be at the heart of the coming rebuild.

With Tottenham exits potentially looming for both Micky van de Ven and captain Cristian Romero, Vuskovic has the chance to make an immediate impact at the heart of Tottenham’s backline.

If one or both leave the club this summer, the succession plan is already in place.

Tottenham must first ensure any interest is kept at bay after an incredible campaign from the young starlet.

Tottenham: Luka Vuskovic the man to lead Roberto De Zerbi rebuild, Hamburg comments prove why

Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic has enjoyed an excellent loan spell in the Bundesliga.

After officially joining Spurs last summer, the Croatian defender moved to Hamburg on loan as the club returned to the top flight for the first time since their historic 2018 relegation.

Following in the footsteps of his brother Mario Vuskovic, currently serving a doping ban, the youngster quickly became a fan favourite at the Volksparkstadion.

It has been a dismal season for parent club Tottenham, who have been dragged into a relegation battle after poor spells under Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

With Roberto De Zerbi trying to steer the club to safety, a rebuild is expected this summer, and young defender Vuskovic should be central to it.

Luka Vuskovic says goodbye to Hamburg fans after sensational loan spell

Joining the club amid so much hype, it could not have been predicted just how much Vuskovic has stepped up this term.

The Red Shorts have achieved Bundesliga safety, and Sunday’s win over Freiburg sealed a finish above arch-rivals Werder Bremen.

At just 19, Vuskovic has become talismanic, his 79 touches against Freiburg the most of any player and a clear sign of Merlin Polzin’s trust.

He opened the scoring with a free-kick to notch his sixth league goal of the season, an increasingly vital part of HSV’s survival push.

Given the chance to say goodbye to the home faithful in the club’s final home game of the season, the Croatian was emotional.

Speaking to DAZN after the win, Vuskovic admitted his love for Hamburg, saying: “I love this club a bit too much.”

The defender is adored at the club, who are still eagerly awaiting the return of brother Mario.

With this in mind, the talk earlier in the season was that Vuskovic’s spell in the Hanseatic City could be extended for another year, though his continued form has all but brought an end to that notion.

And with a return to Tottenham on the cards, he is the exact character who should be at the heart of the coming rebuild in North London.

Tottenham have a gem in Vuskovic

For years, one of the biggest criticisms of Tottenham has been the character – or rather the lack of it – on the pitch.

This season, many within the squad have come under fire, including defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, both of whom could leave this summer.

Vuskovic is not just a fantastic centre-back with sky-high potential; he is also a superb character.

Since the first day of his loan spell, he has embraced the club, its culture and its fanbase.

Leading by example at such a young age, and at such a big club, the Croatian has become the beating heart of the former European champions.

Alongside the pending returns of Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore in particular, Tottenham have a core of youngsters to build around, with Vuskovic central to it all.

Rio Kyerematen closer to Tottenham first-team bow than anyone realises after injury update - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Rio Kyerematen could be handed his senior debut at Tottenham Hotspur sooner rather than later.

Tottenham supporters will have rejoiced after Arsenal moved one step closer to the Premier League title, which is a sentence that almost no Spurs fan will have ever expected to read.

But with West Ham on the receiving end of a defeat, it means that Tottenham’s chances of surviving in the Premier League have received a major boost.

Spurs face Leeds on Monday night, knowing that a win would take them four points above the bottom three, with just two games to go.

However, Tottenham have a few injury concerns of their own heading into the clash, one of which could afford Kyerematen a chance to stake a claim.

Conor Gallagher fears emerge at Tottenham

Since Roberto De Zerbi arrived in North London, Conor Gallagher has improved significantly.

However, his chances of continuing that form are looking bleak, with Gallagher seen wearing strapping around his left knee ahead of Monday night’s game.

It may be precautionary, but it certainly suggests that the midfielder is far from being 100 per cent fit, which will be a concern given the lack of options if he were to miss the game.

However, it could also afford the chance for Kyerematen to make an appearance, given his performances in the Premier League 2 this season.

The 20-year-old has eight goals and five assists for Tottenham’s Under-21s this season, and is certainly more than deserving of a chance to prove his worth.

Who else could get Tottenham chance in light of Gallagher concern?

Gallagher has at times been utilised as a 10 under De Zerbi, and if so, it could also open the door for Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny to make an appearance.

The teen is another who has shone in the Premier League 2 this season, but has not been afforded a chance to make his senior debut.

Russell-Denny has managed four goals and four assists in 20 starts in the league this season, and will also no doubt be looking to break through under De Zerbi.

Roberto De Zerbi may need Conor Gallagher back-up plan amid images from Tottenham HQ - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Roberto De Zerbi may not be able to rely upon Conor Gallagher for the full 90 minutes of Tottenham Hotspur‘s crunch clash with Leeds United.

Gallagher produced his best display yet in a Spurs top since arriving in the winter in last week’s 2-1 win at Aston Villa.

The England international was on the scoresheet and was superb all-round at Villa Park in a massive win for Tottenham.

There is no question that Gallagher will need to be on top of his game if Spurs are to complete their mission of staying in the Premier League.

But a new injury update out of Hotspur HQ suggests the central midfielder is perhaps not 100 per cent fit.

Conor Gallagher spotted with strapping in Tottenham training

Gallagher was hailed as “exceptional” by Gary Lineker for his performance against Aston Villa – and rightly so.

He registered 11 defensive contributions, which was more than any other player on the day, and also recorded six recoveries.

Not only was he very efficient in terms of his defensive qualities, which can often go under the radar, Gallagher also registered a 100 per cent shot conversion and racked up 43 passes.

However, footage shared by Tottenham from their training base in the build-up to Monday’s Leeds clash is not too encouraging.

Gallagher was seen with strapping on his left knee, although it did not seem to impact his involvement too much.

De Zerbi did not provide any update on Gallagher in terms of a knock at his pre-match press conference, but the Italian will need a back-up plan in place should the midfielder not be able to play a full part.

In more positive news, James Maddison may finally be ready to play a small part in the showdown with Leeds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Gallagher stands out in two particular areas for Tottenham

Gallagher may have caught the eye in the West Midlands last week, but plenty of what he does goes under the radar.

For example, the former Atletico Madrid ace is fouled 1.94 times per 90 minutes in the Premier League.

That is a figure only Xavi Simons (2.26) can top among Spurs players, with free-kicks a massive part of modern-day football.

Gallagher also ranks third among Tottenham players for interceptions per 90 with 1.55, behind Rodrigo Bentancur’s 1.66 and Radu Dragusin’s 2.81.

There is also an intangible asset Gallagher brings in that he is vastly experienced and has played under a coaching master in Diego Simeone.

With those qualities, assuming he is fit, Spurs know they can continue to rely on Gallagher in this survival fight.

Antonin Kinsky is perfect Roberto De Zerbi goalkeeper after Tottenham turnaround

Antonin Kinsky is perfect Roberto De Zerbi goalkeeper after Tottenham turnaround - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

“From dream to nightmare to dream again.”

That was the fitting message from Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky after his error-strewn performance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in March. Once guilty of crumbling in a feral Wanda Metropolitano din, he is now his club’s unlikely hero.

He had made his first appearance since October in Madrid after being surprisingly thrust into the firing line by Igor Tudor, but after only six minutes, a costly slip allowed Atletico to take the lead. Then, less than 10 minutes later, another mistake gifted away the second goal.

For the first time in his 15-year coaching career, Tudor did what he had never done before and hooked his goalkeeper just 17 minutes in. Dejected supporters in the away end might have believed there was no way back for the 23-year-old. How wrong they were.

With Tottenham now on the brink of Premier League safety under Roberto De Zerbi, Kinsky is set to play a crucial role again when Spurs take on Leeds United on Monday.

Antonin Kinsky: from zero to hero at Tottenham

His redemption arc was complete after a breathtaking save secured all three points against Wolves, Spurs’ first top-flight victory of 2026. With 98 minutes on the clock, Joao Gomes’ bending free-kick looked set to nestle into the top corner, only for Kinsky to claw it away.

All of a sudden, he resembled the assured shot stopper De Zerbi would have been crying out for. Between the sticks has been a problem position all season, with significant question marks dogging both Guglielmo Vicario and Kinsky. In the latter, he has found a solution.

It should not be forgotten, though, that goalkeepers must do so much more than keep clean sheets under the Italian. He believes all 11 players are essential in carrying out his style. His stoppers must get on the ball to draw pressure before starting the build-up from the back.

Shortly after taking charge at Brighton, he dropped Robert Sanchez, believing Jason Steele was better in possession. Steele, despite never having played a minute of Premier League football, went on to help the club qualify for the Europa League.

Bart Verbruggen’s arrival at the Amex didn’t hasten a change, with De Zerbi allowing his new signing plenty of time to get up to speed with his demanding methods.

While Spurs are not quite playing the fluid, possession-based football their new head coach is renowned for, there has been a newfound focus on ball retention. Kinsky has looked totally at ease, a pleasant surprise considering his lack of minutes since joining in January 2025.

When he has played for Spurs, he has been confident on the ball, bordering on brash. It was one of the primary reasons behind the club’s decision to splash £12.5million on the relatively unknown stopper from Slavia Prague, with Johan Lange taking a lead in talks.

Clearly, his mistakes at Atletico were the exception and not the rule. De Zerbi has been able to get the best out of him, and in return, Kinsky, equipped with a good passing range, has offered Spurs options over short, medium and long distances, as shown at Aston Villa.

That was one of his four Premier League starts this season. In those appearances, he has conceded an average of one goal per game, while making one save per 90 minutes. His save percentage stands at 50 per cent, totalling four, including three from inside the penalty area.

His prowess in possession is showcased by his 84 per cent pass completion, which rises to 95 per cent inside his own half. He also averages two clearances per game.

These are relatively steady numbers that De Zerbi can build on.

What next for Guglielmo Vicario?

Vicario, on the other hand, is almost certain to move on at the end of the season.

It has been reported that Inter Milan have already agreed personal terms with the 29-year-old, who now looks set to bring an end to his three-year stay in North London. He is open to returning to his native Italy after coming under fire for a string of costly errors this campaign.

But while the Italian has failed to dig himself out of the hole, Kinsky has refused to be beaten into the ground. He has experienced his fair share of criticism, but has instead risen above it.

This week, Kinsky admitted he now feels “stronger” for his horrific experience at the Wanda Metropolitano. That has certainly shone through in his recent performances.

For that, he deserves credit.

Leo Black to be released by Tottenham in weeks after what’s been heard

Leo Black to be released by Tottenham in weeks after what’s been heard - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Leo Black is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the summer when his contract expires.

The 20-year-old played 83 times for Spurs’ youth ranks, starting 41 matches, with four goals and six assists in that time.

He signed a professional contract in March 2024 after starring for the Under-18s on a regular basis, but it appears that his time in North London is coming to an end.

The 2006-born star is capable of playing in midfielder or as an inverted right-back, but it looks as though he will not get his chance in the first team.

Tottenham have plenty of academy stars, and they can’t give senior opportunities to everyone.

What has been heard about Black’s future at Tottenham?

John Wenham has heard that Black will not be retained by Tottenham when his deal expires at the end of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “From what I’m hearing, Leo Black is going to be released this summer, but good for his confidence and good to help him pick up another club [getting a goal last time out].

“His contract is certainly up, and from what I was told, he hasn’t been retained.”

Tottenham need to ensure pathway for their youngsters

Tottenham need to do more to ensure that their most talented youngsters get opportunities in the senior side.

At the moment, there is a lack of identity at the club, and those who come through at Hotspur Way face a tough battle to get into the team.

Roberto De Zerbi and his staff must ensure that there are genuine chances for the likes of Mikey Moore, Will Lankshear and Alfie Devine to make a breakthrough into the side, rather than spending fortunes on flops who don’t work out.

It seems like Black will not be given his opportunity, but hopefully, he can bounce back and find success elsewhere, and he will have the backing of everyone who follows the academy in his new adventures due to his commitment to the Lilywhites through the years.

He was once very highly-rated in N17, so it is a shame that is has all shaken up this way and he is set to depart, but if there is one silver lining, he should not struggle to find a new club at a decent level.

Tottenham Hotspur can have a rare moment of delight this season after Mikey Moore shone for Rangers once again.

The 18-year-old departed for Ibrox in the summer and was met with frustration in Glasgow due to his inexperience at senior level.

He has proven to be worth his weight in gold for the Scottish Premiership side with his performances stealing the show under Danny Rohl.

That has earned him the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year award, raising the interest of everyone at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Moore continues to shine for Rangers, and with his latest heroics, Spurs will surely be delighted with the terms they offer the winger in the summer.

Mikey Moore scores again for Rangers vs Celtic

The teenager has seriously proven himself with the Gers this season, showing the Lilywhites what they have been missing.

He never really got a proper chance previously in N17, but has grabbed his opportunity in Scotland with both hands.

The number 47 has contributed to 10 goals across all competitions, including one against Celtic in Sunday’s Old Firm defeat.

The winger netted the opening goal after just nine minutes at Parkhead, scoring in the fierce derby for the second time this season.

That took his goal tally to double figures, which is no mean feat at 18 and should make for excellent reading in North London.

Moore has been a star for Rangers and is ready to shine at Tottenham, and is in a perfect contractual position to do so.

Tottenham did rare good work with Moore contract extension

There has been plenty of criticism aimed towards the North London club and their transfer activity in recent years.

That has engulfed the N17 outfit and has ultimately seen them drift down the table into a relegation battle.

Someone like Moore could certainly return and make a telling difference and luckily for the Lilywhites, they’ve tied him down to a long-term deal.

Before he truly proved himself at Rangers, he penned a five-year extension in North London, and that looks to be superb business right now.

The Englishman will be hoping that his Old Firm heroics have been noticed on Hotspur Way and that they can unlock a chance for him to shine in the Premier League next season.

Tottenham’s points won from losing positions may cost them dearly in relegation run-in - tottenhamhotspurnews.com

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the worst teams in the Premier League this season when it comes to picking up points from losing positions.

All of a sudden, many Tottenham supporters are now believing that their team will escape the embarrassment of a Premier League relegation this term.

That was a feeling most didn’t think would be possible to harbour only a matter of weeks ago, but the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi has changed that.

Indeed, the Italian has been the catalyst for a massive Tottenham turnaround, with his Spurs side now unbeaten in three games and having won back-to-back games.

Tottenham host Leeds on Monday night in the first of their final three matches of the season, but one of their major campaign-long flaws could come back to haunt them over these final weeks.

How many points have Tottenham won from losing positions?

Tottenham have won five-straight league games against Leeds ahead of Monday night’s latest renewal, and thus De Zerbi’s side should be full of confidence of another big three points.

However, Daniel Farke’s Whites are six games unbeaten in the Premier League, and have scored at least two goals in each of their last four league outings respectively.

As such, Leeds will also be backing themselves to rock up in N17 and get the job done, with their attack firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Following their clash with Leeds, Tottenham then finish the season with a tough trip to Chelsea on 19 May, before welcoming Everton to North London on the final day of the campaign respectively.

Both of those sides pose significant challenges to Spurs too, and thus, De Zerbi’s men may have to show serious character over these final three games, and could be forced to come from behind on numerous occasions.

That could be a major problem too, as Spurs have only claimed seven points from 23 losing positions in the Premier League this season, with seven draws and 16 losses – as detailed via Transfermarkt.

On top of that, Spurs have failed to win a single game after going behind this term either, with Wolves being the only other side in the division that share that unwanted record.

De Zerbi’s Tottenham largely untested from losing positions so far

This isn’t much of a stain on De Zerbi’s Tottenham side, however, as the majority of this has come during the respective reigns of Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

Spurs have only gone behind once in De Zerbi’s four games in charge so far, and that was in his first match away at Sunderland on 12 April, where Nordi Mukiele’s goal just after hour mark earned the Black Cats a 1-0 win.

Since then, the Lilywhites have never gone behind in a game, with them taking the lead twice against Brighton only to draw 2-2, beating Wolves 1-0 and then winning 2-1 against Aston Villa with a 96th-minute consolation goal from Emi Buendia.

Of course, De Zerbi will hope his team don’t have to be tested any further in this regard between now and the end of the season, but with the calibre of opponents on their agenda, there is a strong likelihood that will happen.

It will be fascinating to see how his side responds to that if/when it happens, as if they revert to type, it could well end up costing them dearly in the relegation battle.

Tottenham predicted XI vs Leeds – Roberto De Zerbi drops Joao Palhinha out

Tottenham Hotspur will look to extend their strong Premier League form on Monday when they host Leeds United in north London.

Like London buses, once one win arrives, another quickly follows, and that has certainly been the case for Spurs of late.

Just two weeks ago, the Lilywhites were on a winless run stretching back to the end of 2025, before Roberto De Zerbi officially sparked a turnaround.

A late win at Wolves was followed last Sunday by a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, sealed by goals from Conor Gallagher and Richarlison.

Back at home for the first time since last month’s 2-2 draw with Brighton, Spurs welcome a Leeds side unbeaten in six league matches.

Roberto De Zerbi hands Spurs ‘future’ chance to impress

Tottenham finally ended their winless run with a recent victory over relegated Wolves, as Joao Palhinha struck the winner.

The midfielder again anchored De Zerbi’s midfield against Aston Villa and impressed after an underwhelming debut season in North London.

But, as Spurs prepare to host Leeds, the Italian could hand Archie Gray a first start after recently calling the former Leeds youngster the “future” of the club.

“He is very young, but big potential as a player,” De Zerbi said after Gray spent the last two weeks as an unused substitute.

“I think he can become the future. I am sure he can become the future of this club, the captain of this club.”

The 20-year-old could come in alongside Rodrigo Bentancur and Conor Gallagher in midfield, potentially earning his first minutes since the draw with Brighton as De Zerbi assesses him ahead of the summer rebuild.

Elsewhere, Mathys Tel and Randal Kolo Muani are set to continue either side of Richarlison after both impressed at Villa Park, with Kolo Muani delivering his best display yet in a Tottenham shirt.

Monday’s game comes too soon for James Maddison to start, though his progress could see him feature from the bench in the closing weeks of the campaign.

Tottenham could end long wait with Leeds win

Heading into the bout, the odds are stacked in Tottenham’s favour, who carry an impressive record against Leeds.

Having lost just once to the Whites since their 2020 promotion to the top flight, Spurs have dominated this fixture in recent times.

Alongside this, the Lilywhites are looking to end a dismal run without three wins on the bounce, having not done so since February 2025 under Ange Postecoglou.

Though only six teams have picked up more points than Leeds’ 32 since the start of December, meaning De Zerbi’s side will have to be at their best as they look to continue their form and end their barren run without consecutive wins.

Tottenham’s Roberto De Zerbi hire will turn Conor Gallagher into financial masterstroke

Tottenham’s Roberto De Zerbi hire will turn Conor Gallagher into financial masterstroke - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are now getting a bargain on Conor Gallagher after the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi.

De Zerbi’s instalment as Tottenham’s third new manager this season was a topic of much debate among Spurs, and football fans in general.

He’s an intense coach, known for his complex tactical approach, and as such, there were many who felt he wasn’t the right candidate to come in and get instant results out of this Lilywhites group.

However, two wins, one draw and a defeat from his first four games in charge have proven otherwise, with De Zerbi’s side now unbeaten in three and crucially, above the relegation zone.

Players have started to step up under him, and one of those has been Gallagher, who prior to De Zerbi’s arrival in N17, was being largely written off as a major financial mistake by Spurs.

What Tottenham have paid per Conor Gallagher appearance

Gallagher is receiving major plaudits from fans and pundits alike for his performances over the last few games, and especially after his showing against Aston Villa.

Operating as an attacking midfielder, he took his goal extremely well and put in an all-round performance that made him look every bit of a top-class midfielder.

Signed in a reported £35million deal from Atletico Madrid halfway through this season’s January transfer window, he began falling out of favour under Igor Tudor before his departure.

He was the headline signing of the winter window too, and thus, it was expected he would come in and make an instant and sizeable impact on Spurs’ season, but for a while, that wasn’t the case.

Now though, De Zerbi looks to have unlocked the best out of Gallagher once again, and if that’s the case, then Tottenham will have completed one of their shrewdest financial investments in recent years.

Currently, he’s so far made 13 Premier League appearances since joining Tottenham, which when you divide that by his transfer fee, that works out as a cost per game of £2.6m.

Of course, that figure is only going to get smaller with the more games he plays, but even at £2.6m per game right now, that already looks a bargain given his performances under De Zerbi.

De Zerbi should help Tottenham turn big player profits

In order to sell players on for big money, you have to be able to improve them, and you can’t do that without quality coaching.

That’s not to say recent Tottenham managers haven’t been good coaches, they of course are very much so in their own right, but you can already see in De Zerbi, there’s a distinct difference between good and great.

It’s no coincidence that numerous top gaffers across European football cite the Italian as a leading inspiration, with his pressing tactics at Brighton helping to shape the way most sides now press.

He’s the sort of coach who consistently makes players better; just ask Brighton how much their coffers benefited for having De Zerbi in the dug out.

Tottenham have spent far too much money and got far too little returns on their investments in recent years, but with a coach like De Zerbi working with the players, that shouldn’t be a problem moving forward.

Appointing the 46-year-old hasn’t just given Spurs the best chance of Premier League survival, it’s also handed them their most promising financial future when it comes to making money through player sales.
