Description

Tottenham Hotspur take on Leeds United in N17 on Monday night, and Spurs have historically had the Whites’ number in the Premier League.

Shockingly, there is a feel-good factor around Tottenham at the moment: something that many fans didn’t think would be possible as recently as weeks ago.

Indeed, the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi as the Lilywhites’ knight in shining armour has been the catalyst for a late-season turnaround, with the team now unbeaten in their last three games.

Spurs have plundered the Midlands with back-to-back wins over Wolves and Aston Villa respectively, moving them out of the bottom three and into 17th, one place and point above West Ham.

Leeds are next up for Tottenham, with Daniel Farke’s side having all but secured their Premier League status for 2026-27.

What is Tottenham’s Premier League record vs Leeds United?

With only three games of the season to go, Tottenham have two more home games on the schedule, with Leeds on Monday night and Everton on the final day.

Sandwiched between those two fixtures is an away trip to Chelsea, and so on paper, this upcoming clash with the Elland Road outfit is Spurs’ best opportunity to put more precious points on the board.

Tottenham beat Leeds 2-1 in this season’s reverse fixture back on 4 October 2025, and that was the latest in a historic trend of top-flight Spurs dominance over the West Yorkshire side.

Indeed, Tottenham have won their last five-straight Premier League games against Leeds, dating back to November 2021, with three of those victories seeing Spurs score four goals in a single game.

It doesn’t stop there either, as in the 24 years since the two met on 1 April 2002, Tottenham have only lost once against the Whites in the top flight.

That lone Leeds win in that time period came during the Covid-affected season in May 2021, where they triumphed 3-1 at an empty Elland Road.

Overall, since that aforementioned win in April 2002, the two sides have contested 12 Premier League matches, with Tottenham winning 10, drawing one and losing one respectively.

What has Leeds’ away record been like this season?

There aren’t many tougher places to go in the Premier League as an opposition side than Elland Road, with Leeds supporters making their historic home one of the most hostile and atmospheric venues in the land.

However, when they don’t have their home support to lean on, how good have Farke’s side been on their travels in the Premier League this term?

Well, they’ve struggled to say the least, winning just two of their 17 away games in 2025-26, drawing eight and losing seven respectively.

They’re posting a goal difference of minus 12, with 19 goals scored and 31 conceded culminating in a points total on their travels of just 14.

So, both the history and Leeds away form books point heavily in Tottenham’s favour of a win on Monday night, and if so, that would push Spurs to the brink of Premier League safety.

Roberto De Zerbi already working magic at Tottenham in survival fight boost

Roberto De Zerbi already working magic at Tottenham in survival fight boost - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Roberto De Zerbi had zero room for error after taking the plunge at Tottenham Hotspur. Fortunately for the club, he hasn’t put a foot wrong in their relegation fight.

Spurs have now picked up seven points from their last three matches, including their crucial first and second Premier League victories of 2026, and they were able to take their performance levels up another notch during their 2-1 win against Aston Villa last time out.

Capitalising on a surprisingly flat atmosphere at Villa Park, De Zerbi’s side were everything they hadn’t been this season: calm, controlled and perfectly drilled tactically. It is a testament to the Italian’s methods that Spurs were finally able to climb out of the drop zone.

He had had his fair share of doubters. Historically, he has required several weeks to stamp his authority and style on new teams. Lewis Dunk, his former Brighton captain, described his opening sessions at the Amex as a “carnage fortnight”.

At Spurs, he did not have the luxury of time.

There are clear improvements across the board heading into Monday’s showdown against Leeds United, and another win would move them agonisingly close to sealing their safety.

Roberto De Zerbi working miracles at Tottenham

Before he replaced Igor Tudor in the dugout, Spurs were conceding an alarmingly high average of 4.35 shots on target per match, placing them 15th in the Premier League for that particular metric. Under De Zerbi, however, that figure has already dropped to just 2.0.

They now sit top of the table in that area, showcasing their staggering turnaround.

The uplifts don’t stop there. Spurs previously averaged 7.8 interceptions per game and were 16th in comparison to their top-flight peers. Now, that number has shot up to 11, again putting them first. Possession won in the attacking third is also up from 3.7 to 5.3.

The fact that Tottenham are first in several of these crucial metrics proves just how much De Zerbi has been able to steer this listing ship around. All of a sudden, they are better organised, both on and off the ball, and his players bought into his project immediately.

But this front-foot blueprint is, in fact, having a rather surprising effect. Despite winning the ball back closer to the opponent’s penalty area, they only have one goal to show for it under De Zerbi – Xavi Simon’s strike from distance in the 2-2 home draw with Brighton.

The data actually shows Spurs aren’t necessarily creating a better xG or having more shots than their dismal run of form before the 46-year-old. Where the improvements have been evident is at the back. Spurs are shipping fewer goals and dealing with danger better.

Before De Zerbi’s appointment, Tottenham were conceding an average of 1.52 xG per match. Now, that has fallen drastically by almost 50 per cent to 0.79 xG. Their average goal difference per match has also ticked from negative to positive for the first time this term.

Curiously, despite Spurs’ players now looking leaner and meaner, they are running less. Indeed, sprints are down approximately 10 per cent under De Zerbi. They are instead wiser in the press, enacting triggers to perfection and moving up the pitch in fluid, compact blocks.

This much was evident against Aston Villa. Spurs were beautifully coordinated and acted, for the first time in a very long while, like a cohesive unit moving in the right direction.

Much of this improvement can be traced back to De Zerbi’s midfield reshuffle. Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha were given the nod at Villa Park and combined effectively, allowing the former to score his first goal since his £35million switch.

Right from his very first day in the hot seat, he also set about lifting the confidence of his players. They are already willing to walk through fire for him, while a series of crippling injuries to crucial players have also bound them closer together.

It is clear, then, that Tottenham are destined for success under De Zerbi.

Leeds the real test

However, to play devil’s advocate, there are a couple of caveats that suggest Spurs are almost certainly not quite home and hosed. Two of De Zerbi’s four matches since his appointment have come against basement club Wolves and a heavily-rotated Aston Villa.

It cannot be denied that Villa had put their full focus on their Europa League semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest, and so simply didn’t turn up against Spurs. The visitors established a rapid foothold and were able to dominate large swathes.

On Monday, they will welcome a rejuvenated Leeds United, who are certainly safe from relegation. It will be a stern test of Spurs’ character and their credentials under De Zerbi. If they are to take another stride closer to safety, they will really need all three points.

Only then will they be able to breathe a little easier.

Richarlison toe to toe with the Premier League’s best for stat that poses Tottenham question

Richarlison toe to toe with the Premier League’s best for stat that poses Tottenham question - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Richarlison is Tottenham Hotspur‘s top scorer this season, though his goal numbers don’t do him justice.

With three games left to be played, safety is back in Tottenham’s hands after their recent back-to-back wins in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites face Leeds on Monday, two days after West Ham clash with Arsenal, meaning there is every chance that they find themselves four points clear of the bottom three with two games left.

Roberto De Zerbi has had a positive influence since his appointment, though Richarlison has played a crucial role since the start of the season.

Tottenham have relied on Richarlison for goals, but they have also done him an injustice with the gametime he has received.

Richarlison’s stats make omission baffling

To have scored 10 goals for this Tottenham side in the Premier League is an achievement in itself, but Richarlison’s numbers go way beyond that.

He also has four assists, meaning his total goal involvement tally is up to 14 in the top flight this season, despite having started just 17 times.

Richarlison averages a goal or an assist every 121 minutes, which is only marginally higher than his average from the last three seasons combined, which has him getting one every 109 minutes.

In that period, only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak have a better ratio in the final third.

Salah and Haaland lead the way with a goal involvement every 91 minutes, while Isak has averaged one every 102 minutes that he has played.

Why are Tottenham wasting Richarlison’s ability?

The Brazilian has made a total of 29 Premier League appearances this season, meaning he has been named on the bench 13 times.

And that is baffling when taking into account the influence he has had in the final third, and even more so when taking into consideration how many attacking injuries the North Londoners have been faced with.

Tottenham may well go on to secure survival ahead of the final three games, and in all likelihood, they probably will, but the job could have been made far easier if he had been given more of a role to play.

Tottenham called out for ‘massive error’ on Kieran Morgan – ‘It’s just madness’

Tottenham called out for ‘massive error’ on Kieran Morgan – ‘It’s just madness’ - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have been blasted for their decision to release Kieran Morgan.

The midfielder came through Spurs’ academy and is a boyhood supporter of the N17 club, but he was let go in the summer of 2024.

He joined Queen’s Park Rangers after that, and is thriving with the Championship club, making 61 appearances in two seasons.

He featured 30 times in the 2025-26 campaign, with two goals and one assist, all coming in the league for the Rs.

Tottenham need to improve the pathway to the first-team for academy talents, rather than releasing them and watching them kick on elsewhere.

What has been said about Tottenham’s decision on Morgan?

John Wenham believes it was the wrong decision from Tottenham to release the 20-year-old midfielder.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “It was a massive error from whoever made the decision to release Kieran Morgan, a boyhood Tottenham fan who, even when they decided to release him was a regular starter for the Under-18s, so he was contributing in a positive way.

“Because they made external signings, there was deemed to be no pathway for him to be offered a professional contract with Tottenham.

“He went out of Tottenham, brought in at QPR, which is quite a well-trodden path for a lot of players we release that end up at QPR.

“Did a couple of games with their development squad and then very quickly their manager at the time brought him into the first team, and he hasn’t looked back since, he’s had 30 or 40 appearances now at QPR, scored a whole range of goals, plays for England in the Under-20s.

“What would his value be now? £4 or £5 million? And we gave him away for nothing to accommodate external signings, who we subsequently released or just moved on for free.

“It’s just madness, and with the wages that were offered to those two external players, we could have easily kept Morgan on at Tottenham and secured him a loan, maybe at QPR, and we would have been in control of his future.

“He’s a very good Championship-level player for now, and he may get better. So, it’s very, very frustrating with that one.”

Tottenham could have done with Morgan this season

The Lilywhites could have benefited from having Morgan around this season, as their midfield has been decimated by injuries.

Rodrigo Bentancur has struggled to stay fit, Lucas Bergvall has missed significant time, and Pape Sarr has not proven to be a reliable option.

They did get some help, bringing Conor Gallagher in the winter transfer window, but an extra body, who knows the club would have been ideal.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur still have plenty going on behind the scenes, as well as on the pitch.

Roberto De Zerbi‘s side are locked in a relegation battle in the Premier League, sitting just one point above the drop zone.

They will be keeping a close eye on West Ham’s results in the next three matches, as well as trying to do their very best themselves to keep that gap or extend it.

However, attention will soon turn to the new campaign, with transfer targets and boardroom developments under the microscope much more than right now.

Tottenham News rounds up the latest from N17 on 8 May, as the season winds towards its conclusion.

Randal Kolo Muani transfer expectation shared

Randal Kolo Muani is still expected to leave Tottenham in the summer despite his recent upturn in form.

The Frenchman has formed a relationship with De Zerbi, and seems to be increasingly confident after the recent celebrations.

John Wenham believes that will not change anything, though, even if the price demands from Paris Saint-Germain were lower than expected.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: I still don’t think there’s any chance that he’ll be back at Tottenham next year.

“I even think at that rate [£25million] I probably wouldn’t buy him.

“It’s not his fault, I don’t mind him as a person, I just think we’ve got other issues in the squad than spending £25 million on him.

“If they said, look, you can have him on loan again at the same terms that you’ve got him now, then there could be a deal done there if he continues to play well between now and the end of the season.”

Jeff Stelling makes Tottenham vs Leeds prediction that Spurs fans will love

Jeff Stelling has made a prediction that will excite Tottenham supporters ahead of their clash with Leeds United.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 8 May, he said: “Leeds may well be safe by the time they kick off at Tottenham.

“They could be on the beach or they could be playing with complete freedom.

“I have watched Leeds with real admiration in the Premier League this season, but I sense Spurs have reinvigorated under De Zerbi, and I think they can take a huge step towards Premier League safety by beating Leeds.

“I am going Tottenham 2 and Leeds 1.”

That situation would be a dream for Spurs fans, and would boost their hopes of survival tremendously, if Stelling’s prediction comes true.

Vinai Venkatesham speaks out after Tottenham exit

Vinai Venkatesham has spoken out after Andy Rogers’ departure from the Lilywhites was confirmed.

He will step away from his role as managing director of the women’s team in North London, ending a 24-year association with Spurs.

Venkatesham has revealed his feelings on the matter, saying: “Andy has made a significant contribution to the growth and development of our women’s team over the past three-and-a-half years.

“His leadership, professionalism, and tireless commitment to the Club has helped shape strong foundations for our Women’s players and staff, both on and off the pitch.

“We are incredibly grateful for all on Andy’s work during his time here. He leaves with our very best wishes for the future and will always be part of the Spurs family.”

Tottenham target Kehl avaliable after Dortmund agreement

Tottenham are interested in sporting director Sebastian Kehl, who is officially available after his exit from Borussia Dortmund.

A report from BILD claims that the 46-year-old and the Bundesliga club have reached an agreement to terminate his contract, with a £1.3m severance fee.

It claims that Spurs, Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen are potential landing spots for the 31-cap German international.

It does not state his preference on staying in Germany or moving to the Premier League club.

Tottenham get best news possible as Leeds United double injury update emerges - tottenhamhotspurnews.com

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a very positive update for their clash with Leeds United on Monday.

Roberto De Zerbi‘s side host the Whites at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 11 May, needing all three points to ease their relegation struggles.

If results go their way, with West Ham facing Arsenal, they could open up a four-point gap with just six to play for.

That possibility has been made more likely after a triple injury concern for Daniel Farke and Co ahead of the contest.

Tottenham have the best possible news, with three key players potentially missing the clash for the Elland Road side.

Who is missing for Leeds in Tottenham clash?

De Zerbi’s side will be licking their lips, with Gabriel Gudmundsson and Noah Okafor ruled out of the contest.

The Swede has a hamstring issue that will keep him out this week, while the Swiss attacker has suffered a calf strain and will miss the next two matches.

Pascal Struijk is also a doubt for the visitors, as assistant manager Edmund Riemer confirmed in the pre-match press conference that he is not going to train today.

Why Gudmundsson and Okafor will be big misses for Leeds

Gudmundsson and Okafor have been key players for Farke’s side this season, and their absence could swing the favour of the game.

The defender has made 32 Premier League appearances, with no goal contributions from the left-back position.

He averages 0.6 shots and 0.7 key passes and has created four key chances in the division, and completes 53 per cent of his dribble attempts, per Sofascore.

Defensively, he has excelled, with two tackles per game, 3.5 ball recoveries per game and 2.6 clearances per game.

Meanwhile, Okafor, has notched eight goals and one assist in 28 league matches.

He averages 1.3 shots and 0.7 key passes, while creating four big chances like Gudmundsson, while completing 42% of his dribbles.

The winger is also not afraid to help out defensively, making 0.8 tackles per game, 2.2 ball recoveries per game and 0.6 clearances per game.

With those two stars missing, De Zerbi’s side have to huge chance to take the game to the Peacocks, and potentially steal all the points and take a step closer to safety.

Randal Kolo Muani causes surprise with ‘unusual moment’ as summer exit likely - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Randal Kolo Muani’s fortunes at Tottenham Hotspur have started to turn around in recent weeks.

The French forward has endured a difficult campaign at Hotspur Way, struggling to make the required impact.

However, Roberto De Zerbi has helped him to change perceptions, with a right-wing role proving beneficial for the 27-year-old.

He has started to come out of his shell, both on and off the pitch, playing a key role in Spurs’ battle against relegation.

Tottenham have a dilemma on Kolo Muani in the summer, whether to bring him in permanently or let him return to Paris Saint-Germain.

What has changed for Kolo Muani at Tottenham?

Kolo Muani’s performances have been very positive for Tottenham lately, and it seems that he has had a change in attitude.

John Wenham highlighted his newfound confidence, which saw him taunt the Aston Villa fans and high-five the travelling Lilywhites at Villa Park last time out.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “It was a very unusual moment, and it was from the most unlikely player to do that.

Up until recently, we’ve not seen any of that sort of personality from Kolo Muani.

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s being forced to play out of position for the good of the team, he’s a striker, you can’t tell me, put him right midfield, but he’s doing his bit for the team.

“He’s not perfect in any shape or form, but he’s working hard, he’s trying to make things happen, and he’s now given this sort of positive character that we’re seeing.

“That came out with that substitution at Aston Villa, but also against Wolves when Palhinha scored at Wolves, he sort of erupted from the touchline and did a massive celebration more than anybody else, something has clicked with him and De Zerbi.

“He even said we’ve seen not the best version of Kolo Muani, and he’s a better player than what we’re seeing.

“So I think he’s just going to keep working with him until the summer, I still don’t think there’s any chance that he’ll be back at Tottenham next year.”

Would Tottenham take a cut-price deal?

Wenham does not even believe that Spurs should entertain a cut-price deal for the Frenchman, if the Parisians are willing to let him go for a bargain price.

Proposed with a hypothetical of a £25million price tag, he said: “I even think at that rate I probably wouldn’t buy him.

It looks like he will still be off in the summer, no matter what happens.

Tottenham Hotspur fans will have their fingers crossed after Jeff Stelling’s latest prediction ahead of facing Leeds United.

The Lilywhites are on a roll, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side winning two league matches on the bounce, lifting themselves out of the bottom three in the process.

It has been a dismal season for Spurs, who called upon De Zerbi in March with the instant goal of securing survival.

It is not done yet, but they have gone a long way to sealing the deal with successive wins against Wolves and Aston Villa.

Back on home soil for the first time since the 2-2 draw with Brighton, Spurs welcome Leeds United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jeff Stelling drops prediction that Spurs fans will love to hear

Heading into the clash against Wolves two weeks ago, Tottenham were winless in 2026.

And much like London buses, you wait that long for one that two come at once, with De Zerbi’s side beating Wolves and Aston Villa to climb out of the drop zone.

With West Ham facing Arsenal on Sunday, Spurs have a big chance to capitalise and move four points clear of their rivals, and Stelling believes that they will do exactly that.

“Leeds may well be safe by the time they kick off at Tottenham,” Stelling said on talkSPORT.

“They could be on the beach or they could be playing with complete freedom,” he added, with Tottenham handed a boost given that they have won their last five against the Whites.

“I have watched Leeds with real admiration in the Premier League this season, but I sense Spurs have reinvigorated under De Zerbi. And I think they can take a huge step towards Premier League safety by beating Leeds.

“I am going Tottenahm 2 and Leeds 1.”

Odds stacked in Tottenham’s favour as survival battle continues

Alongside their run of five wins in a row against Leeds, Spurs have actually won eight of their last nine, while the Whites have not secured an away result in North London in over six visits.

Only six sides have picked up more points than Leeds since the start of December, but their focus could well change should their safety be secured over the weekend.

With this in mind as well, Spurs are looking to win three consecutive league matches for the first time in 15 months – something Stelling expects to happen – which is a testament to De Zerbi’s efforts at Tottenham.

With their rivals playing the day before, fans have a conundrum given that it is Arsenal who are looking to beat West Ham.

However, should they beat the Hammers, the chance is there to take a huge step towards survival, with the result also impacting visitors Leeds, who could well be calling themselves a Premier League club for another year on Monday.

James Maddison return would be timely boost for Tottenham due to record vs Leeds - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

James Maddison could be in line to make his highly awaited Tottenham Hotspur return against Leeds United.

The Englishman has spent the best part of a year sidelined due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury and has been back in training over the last few weeks.

Maddison, who is part of Spurs’ leadership group, would add another dimension to the Lilywhites’ attack, but the N17 outfit has been very protective over the midfielder.

Despite being in Tottenham’s squad over the last three match weeks, Roberto De Zerbi has not handed him any minutes.

However, ahead of Tottenham facing Leeds, the Italian has hinted he could finally return to the pitch, and his record suggests a boost for Spurs.

Why James Maddison would be timely boost for Tottenham vs Leeds

De Zerbi confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he is “thinking” about the Englishman.

The Spurs manager, speaking about the midfielder’s chances to play, stated: “I am thinking about James Maddison because I am watching a top, top player. Maybe he is not ready yet to play, not as a physical condition but for the rhythm or intensity of the game.”

In truth, the 29-year-old is unlikely to start, and if he does come off the bench, it would likely be for a short cameo.

So far, his injury has kept him out of 46 matches for Tottenham.

Nonetheless, with De Zerbi opening the door, despite his uncertainty over his physical condition, his inclusion would strike fear into Leeds.

Maddison in four Premier League appearances against the Elland Road side has picked up three assists. That is despite the fact he has only managed to start in two of those games.

His creativity would be a huge asset for Spurs as they looked to maintain their Premier League status, with Maddison averaging 1.2 key passes per game last season according to Sofascore. He also achieved seven assists.

Is Maddison worth the risk for Tottenham?

While the update on Maddison is a positive, De Zerbi should only use him as a break in case of an emergency situation.

There is no point in risking the 29-year-old’s rehabilitation, and there is a likely chance he is not match-fit yet.

In truth, it may not be until next season that Spurs fans get to see Maddison in action, other than if survival is confirmed and De Zerbi gives him the final few minutes in the last game of the season.

Tottenham will certainly not be helped by the referee appointed for this weekend’s fixture against Leeds.

James Wilson will go down as most pointless signing in Tottenham's history as next steps revealed - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

James Wilson looks destined to return to Hearts following a truly bizarre loan move to Tottenham Hotspur in the winter transfer window.

The Lilywhites signed the young striker from Hearts, as he struggled for game time in the first part of the season with the Jambos.

The 19-year-old has been playing for Spurs’ U21s, and the club had a £2.5million buy option at the end of his contract.

According to Edinburgh News, the forward is set to return to Hearts following the expiration of his contract with Tottenham.

Tottenham had an uninspiring January window, and the arrival of James may go down as one of the most questionable decisions in the club’s history.

🚨 TOTTENHAM TRANSFER HUB 🚨

Breaking N17 recruitment news: Top targets, deals in progress, whispers, signings, departures, contract updates.

James Wilson’s loan was odd from all parties

Wilson joined Spurs wanting to play regular football, but at his age, he should have been seeking first-team chances.

He was never going to get that in N17, but the idea of signing him on loan to then make it permanent this summer made sense.

However, it seems like the Lilywhites will not exercise the £2.5m buy option, despite rivalling Arsenal for the teenager’s signature.

Wilson could be headed back to Tynecastle Park as early as next week, but even then, he won’t be allowed to play any first-team football with Hearts.

The number nine is said to be keen on playing first-team football next season, so the chances of Spurs signing him are low, regardless of what division they are in.

All things considered, this will go down as a transfer that wasted the club’s precious time, as it clearly had no future reward in it either.

How is Johan Lange still in a job?

Even if Spurs stay up, major summer changes are needed with Roberto De Zerbi at the helm, and that’s not just to do with the players.

Spurs are in this mess because of managerial decisions made by the higher-ups, with transfer business also being questionable, highlighted with James.

Tottenham added just one senior signing to their ranks in January with Conor Gallagher, and even the multi-million-pound addition of Souza seems strange.

Lucas Bergavall is the only youngster that the club have signed in recent years who has produced, which makes Johan Lange look even more like a fool for wasting his time in January.

There’s been zero winning at all with James’ signing, and it never looked to be a move that made sense.

Lange needs to go this summer, before things get even worse.
