Description

Tottenham are hoping to provide new head coach Thomas Frank with a refreshed squad this summer.

The Dane will hope to lead a miraculous overhaul of the team’s league form next season, after Spurs slumped to a dismal 17th-placed finish in the last campaign.

Transfer chiefs at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have advanced negotiations for new arrivals over the past week, with incomings now expected imminently.

Kudus will be a star for Spurs

Spurs have long-since been searching for a player capable of grabbing a match by the scruff of its neck, and in Mohammed Kudus, they may have found exactly that.

According to David Ornstein, a deal worth around £55million has been agreed with West Ham, with the player expected to complete the formalities over the coming days.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The midfielder is a lot of things. A tidy finisher, an accomplished passer, and an efficient presser, but where he really excels is in his dribbling.

Kudus has completed more successful dribbles than any other player in the last two Premier League seasons, with 216.

The Ghanaian ranks in the 98th percentile of Premier League attacking midfielders and wingers when it comes to attempted take-ons, according to FBRef, but not only is he attempting 7.23 per 90 minutes, he’s completing a lot of them too.

When compared with attacking midfielders and wingers in Europe’s top five leagues (Premier League, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga), the Champions League and the Europa League, Kudus ranks in the 97th percentile for successful take-ons, completing 3.2 per 90 minutes.

The 24-year-old has an Eden Hazard-like ability to keep the ball at his feet even while travelling at extreme speed, and once he gets past his man, he’s often creating chances.

Kudus registered 0.56 successful take-ons that led to shots and 3.72 shot-creating actions every 90 minutes last season in the Premier League.

Whilst the stats may seem impressive now, it is important to remember that the winger’s performance last season was dampened under the cloud of a terrible West Ham season.

The Hammers scored just 46 goals as they slumped to a 14th-placed finish.

Kudus’ appearance in the club’s Premier League top three goal-scorers and top three assisters, despite registering just five and three respectively, should tell you all you need to know.

Kulusevski could form partnership with Kudus

How Frank will set up the Spurs team is still up for debate but if the Dane elects to go with a similar system to the one he utilised at Brentford, Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski could form a beneficial connection on the right.

Towards the end of the season, the Bees were often deployed in a 4-2-3-1, with Mikkel Damsgaard playing inside of Bryan Mbeumo.

Frank appeared to give Mbeumo free rein to drift inside when necessary, whilst the Frenchman was also often found out wide to take on his opposing left-back – with Damsgaard often the man to play the pass.

Kudus could be deployed in a similar way by Frank, with Kulusevski played inside of him.

The Swede has featured heavily both through the middle and out on the right wing for Spurs, and could allow for rotation between himself and his new teammate.

Frank had attempted to sign Mbeumo earlier in the summer, before the Frenchman’s intention to join Manchester United became clear.

Kudus could provide him with an ideal alternative to the 25-year-old.

Mbeumo ultimately became Frank’s talisman at Brentford – Kudus has all the potential to become his main-man at Spurs.

‘Real Madrid door now open to sign Cristian Romero’ amid Tottenham exit twist

Description

Tottenham have been hoping to convince Cristian Romero to stay in North London this summer.

The Argentine, who joined in a big-money deal from Atalanta in 2022, appeared to be looking for a path away from the club following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

In a post on social media, Romero spoke of the “many obstacles” at Tottenham, with some fans taking the comment as a dig against the club’s owners, Daniel Levy and ENIC.

New head coach Thomas Frank will hope the defender will remain at the club past the transfer window’s deadline, with the Dane looking to sure up last season’s leaky defence.

Romero could be set for Real Madrid move

Several clubs have registered their interest in a move for Romero this summer, with the 27-year-old’s contract set to expire in 2027.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Among them, Atletico Madrid’s interest looks to be the most intense, with the Spanish giants keen to add the defender’s World Cup-winning experience to their back-line.

But according to AS (July 9), Los Colchoneros have grown tired in their pursuit of Romero, and have given up hope of completing the signing this summer.

Tottenham have resisted all attempts to sign the Argentine, and Atleti will now look to approach alternative options.

The news will come as some relief for Spurs fans, but the door now could be open for the La Liga side’s Madrid neighbours.

Real Madrid have been linked with a possible move for Romero in the past, and could return to test Tottenham’s resolve this summer.

With injuries proving persistent for Eder Militao and David Alaba, Xabi Alonso’s side are in the market for another new central defender after signing Dean Huijsen.

Potential moves for Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and Arsenal’s William Saliba have been mooted, but both deals would come at significant cost for Real.

Given Romero’s uncertain contract situation, Los Blancos may see fit to make a move for the Argentine this summer and could be capable of meeting Spurs’ asking price.

Spurs must prove ambition to Romero

A potential move to Real Madrid would be a hard proposition to turn down for any player, but especially in the case of Romero, who looks to be unsettled at Spurs.

Frank will have a duty to prove his ambition to the Argentine, but the club must take to the transfer market to demonstrate their willingness to bring further trophies to The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

‘Yves Bissouma transfer offer to be made’ as Tottenham asking price emerges

Description

Yves Bissouma looks set to leave Tottenham this summer amid mounting speculation.

The midfielder only has one year left on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as Thomas Frank prepares to overhaul his squad.

Bissouma has struggled for consistency at Spurs compared to his time at Brighton.

As a result, Juventus have entered the race for Bissouma as they look to prize the 28-year-old away from the London club.

However, multiple other teams are also interested in the midfielder.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Fenerbahce ‘to make offer’ for Bissouma

On top of Juventus, Fenerbahce have been linked with Bissouma all summer.

Jose Mourinho is keen to add to his squad in order to challenge for the Turkish Super League title this season.

Bissouma is understood to be keen to leave Tottenham this summer, and now Fenerbahce are looking to make a move for the midfielder.

According to Yağız Sabuncuoğlu via Fener Ajans (9 July), the 28-year-old is Mourinho’s top midfield target this summer.

However, Tottenham are demanding £20 million for Bissouma, which is proving to be a sticking point in negotiations.

If this fee comes down, “Fenerbahce will make an official offer”, with the midfielder wanting to play under Mourinho this season.

Frank should look to sell Bissouma even if Fenerbahce don’t match asking price

The tricky thing about Bissouma’s situation is that the midfielder is out of contract next year.

As a result, Spurs cannot afford to wait for the asking price as he could easily end up leaving on a free next summer.

Therefore, if Fenerbahce end up submitting an offer slightly under, Frank has to accept the deal.

On top of this, the wages that will be saved could help finance further reinforcements in the squad, ready for the new season.

Hopefully, Tottenham do not hold out for the £20m, as it would then seem inevitable that the interested parties would simply wait until January to make a pre-contract offer.

Tottenham are planning a complete squad overhaul in time for the upcoming season.

The Lilywhites have been linked to several attackers this summer as Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his current team.

Tottenham did not disappoint in front of goal in the Premier League last season. However, from the 64 goals scored, Brennan Johnson was the top scorer, with 11.

As a result, Tottenham are on the hunt for forward players with an eye for goal, while some players look set to head in the opposite direction.

Oliver Irow ‘to be sent on loan’ after contract agreement

Tottenham recently confirmed (27 June) that Oliver Irow has signed a new contract with the Lilywhites, keeping him in North London until 2028.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Irow was the top scorer for Spurs’ Under-21s last season. In his first full season at that level, the forward netted 10 goals in all competitions, as well as an unbelievable six goals in seven games toward the turn of the year.

Irow has the talent to establish himself in the first team, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the 19-year-old should be loaned as part of his development.

“I think Irow needs to go on loan now,” Wenham said.

“He’s signed this contract until 2028, so it’s a three-year deal. I think he needs to push on and go out on loan, like Damola Ajayi has done.

“They’re both from the same age group and if Irow goes on loan, it opens the door for Luca Williams-Barnett and Tynan Thompson to get game time with the Under-21s next season.”

Tottenham need to sell Richarlison this summer

While Tottenham are making good progress with their academy products, adjustments still need to be made to the first team.

Richarlison is one player expected to be sold this summer after a disappointing three-year stint at Hotspur Way.

Several injuries and inconsistent performances on the pitch have meant that the Brazilian has never quite shown his true potential in North London. Now, with the UEFA Champions League to play for, Richarlison is just one of several big changes Spurs will hope to make this summer.

But with the summer transfer window approaching its peak, Tottenham will need to sell Richarlison soon to get the best deal possible.

Tottenham continue to establish strong competition within their ranks as a goalkeeper joins from Manchester City.

Daniel Levy will be hoping that Spurs’ defensive performances under Ange Postecoglou are a thing of the past.

The Lilywhites scored 64 goals in the Premier League last season. However, they also conceded 65, the fifth most of any side in the division.

Guglielmo Vicario was one of the players who suffered the most, keeping three fewer clean sheets compared to his debut campaign.

Farren Doran signs two-year scholarship at Tottenham

As reported by Lilywhite Rose via Instagram (30 June), Tottenham have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Farren Doran.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In a follow-up via X (2 July), Lilywhite Rose shared that Doran was one of several youngsters to have signed a two-year scholarship at Tottenham.

The youngster is considered a talented prospect, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes he will provide healthy competition in North London.

“Blake Irow is the other goalkeeper in the group,” Wenham said.

“This is the fourth signing we’ve made from City’s academy in the last two years or so. It’s interesting because Irow is an England youth international, and he will be expected to be the starting keeper for the Under-18s.

“Therefore, Doran will have a task to get in the side. However, he will certainly provide competition, and I’m sure over pre-season we will get an indication of who will be the number one for the Under-18s.”

Thomas Frank to promote academy stars

There is the belief that Thomas Frank will look to promote several academy talents to the first team next season.

This comes after Mikey Moore’s impressive breakthrough campaign, and it has been suggested that Luca Williams-Barnett could be the latest player to follow in his footsteps.

The 16-year-old scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists last season. This could encourage Frank to take a closer look during pre-season.

After the success of Moore, there is a growing sense that it is only the beginning of academy stars climbing the ranks at Tottenham.

Description

Ange Postecoglou is looking for his next venture after leaving Tottenham in contentious circumstances.

The Australian became the first manager since Keith Burkinshaw in 1984 to guide Spurs to a European trophy, also ending Tottenham’s 17-year wait for silverware last season.

Barely two weeks after achieving this historic feat, he was sacked, citing his poor Premier League record as the principal reason for his dismissal in the official statement.

His departure split the fanbase, while almost every player penned an emotional message of gratitude to the 59-year-old.

Postecoglou has since had plenty of interest in his services since leaving N17, with a Premier League rival also revealed to have made an approach soon after.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Brentford contacted Postecoglou about replacing Thomas Frank

Six days after announcing Postecoglou’s departure, Tottenham hired Thomas Frank from Brentford as their new manager.

The Dane initially brought with him three coaches from his former club, including Justin Cochrane, whom the West London club were keen on keeping and considering appointing as Frank’s successor.

This left the Bees to search for a replacement, and as revealed by Jay Harris of The Athletic (8 July), Postecoglou was shockingly one of the candidates considered for the role.

Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, held initial conversations with the former Celtic manager, though no formal interviews were ultimately conducted.

Keith Andrews, their set-piece coach, was eventually promoted to lead them into the post-Frank era.

It would have been an odd sight to see Postecoglou effectively swap places with the Dane and return so soon to the Tottenham dugout, this time as the opposition manager.

Postecoglou’s imprint will remain at Spurs

As motivation for his Spurs team, Postecoglou repeatedly told the players that winning a trophy would ensure their picture would be hung in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for generations to come.

They did just that, etching their name into Tottenham folklore.

Postecoglou also oversaw a vast overhaul of the squad during his two years in North London, which focused on youth, meaning Frank has inherited a team full of young players his predecessor signed.

While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it does mean that the UEFA Europa League-winning manager’s imprint will remain at Spurs for a long time.

Tottenham are continuing to build a core of young, talented defenders at Hotspur Way.

Daniel Levy might soon need to replace Cristian Romero, who continues to be linked with Atletico Madrid.

However, it looks as though the Spurs Chairman might not need to spend big money, as Tottenham already have a plethora of talented young centre-backs on their books.

The Lilywhites confirmed the arrival of Japanese international centre-back Kōta Takai from J1 League side Kawasaki Frontale on Tuesday (8 July), while another player has opted to put pen to paper with Spurs despite interest from Manchester City.

Cayon Hanson signs two-year scholarship at Tottenham

Tottenham have placed significant focus on recruiting and developing young players in recent seasons.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Mikey Moore is a shining example of the rewards of youth investment if done right, with the 17-year-old already a UEFA Europa League winner.

As a result, Spurs will look to continue this trend, and according to Lilywhite Rose (2 July), have signed Hanson along with several others on a two-year scholarship.

But Tottenham were not the only club to recognise his potential, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – revealed that Spurs had to fight off City for his signature.

“Hanson is a tall, left-footed centre-back,” Wenham said.

“He’s a talented player, and I know that he was wanted by Manchester City, so that was a big deal for Tottenham to get over the line.

“Midfielders Ty Tingey and Cameron Thomas, who also signed scholarships, have already made their Under-18s debuts. There’s a lot of quality in that group, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they develop.”

Hanson will be a good long-term investment

Tottenham have their fair share of defenders climbing through the ranks of their academy at the moment.

However, Hanson has the potential to become a key player in the future. He is one of two centre-backs who were offered a scholarship in his group. Therefore, this indicates that Spurs see potential in him.

Hanson is left-footed, and there is a maturity about how he conducts himself on and off the ball.

With Tottenham looking to invest more in their young stars, Hanson could benefit from rejecting City.

Description

Tottenham fans have long-since found issue with the ownership of their club.

Chairman Daniel Levy and the ENIC Group have faced several protests in recent years, with fans questioning the owners’ decisions for matters on and off the pitch.

Calls for the club have, so far, received no response from decision-makers at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but recent years have rumoured of a potential change in stance.

Tottenham loans ‘biggest inhibitor’ of sale

In 2023, reports emerged that Qatari government-backed Qatar Sports Investment were in talks to purchase a 15 per cent stake in Tottenham.

Talks later fell through, however, with ENIC’s asking price reportedly too high.

MORE SPURS STORIES

But earlier this year, rumours of a separate group of Qatari investors being interested in purchasing the club once again emerged.

The progress of any talks remains unclear, but Levy has previously expressed his desire for external investment in the club.

However, any party interested in purchasing the club may run into some difficulties, according to football finance expert, Kieran Maguire.

Speaking about Spurs on his podcast, The Price of Football (July 8), Maguire suggested the loans carried by the club may prevent any future sale.

“Spurs’ loans are actually probably the biggest inhibitor of a sale, and we can discuss that at another time,” Maguire explained.

According to The Telegraph (June 17), the North London club currently have around £900million worth of debt.

And around 90 per cent of this debt is paid at a fixed interest rate of three per cent per year, according to Oakwell Sports Advisory.

The majority of the club’s debt is still existing from the move that saw them switch White Hart Lane for The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which the Covid-19 pandemic only saw to worsen.

This debt could be a sticking point for any potential buyer of the club.

Tottenham fans must continue to voice their displeasure

Tottenham fans have been resolute in their distaste for the ownership, and the decision to sack Ange Postecoglou following the club’s Europa League victory has only intensified the fury for some.

‘Richarlison to link up with Coutinho’ in fresh Tottenham transfer news

Description

Tottenham are aiming to add quality to their squad, and this could mean some senior players are moved on to make space for new additions.

Richarlison could be one of those sold this summer after an underwhelming three years in North London, and the Brazil star has been linked with several clubs.

Tottenham have been linked with several forwards, including Bryan Mbeumo, but will need to sell to boost their finances if they are to sign a big-name attacker.

Everton have been touted as a possible destination for Richarlison, but a surprise club has now emerged as an interested party.

Vasco De Gama interested in Richarlison

While a return to Everton has been touted, Richarlison could end up leaving the Premier League to return to his native Brazil, with one club now heavily interested.

MORE SPURS STORIES

TalkSPORT (July 8) have now reported that Vasco De Gama are keen on signing Richarlison, but with one key caveat.

Richarlison would have to lower his £175,000 a week wage demands if he is to make a shock return to Brazil to join Vasco De Gama.

If the 28-year-old does make the move, he would link up with former Liverpool and Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho, who recently moved there after leaving Aston Villa.

Richarlison could leave Spurs

Richarlison’s time at Spurs has been underwhelming, and he could fall further down the pecking order if they recruit in attacking areas.

It remains to be seen whether Thomas Frank wants to give him another chance after years of instability welcomed the attacker to Spurs.

The Brazilian could be a useful asset as a squad player, but given his wages and the potential fee Tottenham could earn from his sale, they may be willing to listen to offers.

The likeliest scenario is that Richarlison leaves Spurs, as with two years remaining on his contract, his value will never be higher, and the club may not wish to keep a depreciating asset on the bench.

Richarlison scored 20 goals in 90 games for Tottenham, who will now hope to sign an attacker who can offer more reliability in the box, and more consistent fitness.

Description

Cristian Romero looks likely to be one of several players to leave Tottenham this summer.

Tottenham have found plenty of success through the signing of Romero back in 2022, though it appears as though his time is coming to an end this summer.

The Argentine played a crucial role in Spurs’ Europa League triumph last campaign, but rumours over an exit to Atletico Madrid have persisted throughout the summer.

With that in mind, it seems as though Spurs have already accepted defeat in their attempts to keep him in North London, with an update emerging on Burnley defender Maxim Esteve.

Esteve in concrete talks with Tottenham ahead of transfer

If Romer does leave, Spurs will bank a significant fee, though most of it will have to be used to seal the arrival of his replacement.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That could turn out to be Esteve, after it was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio via X (8 July) that Tottenham are now in concrete talks with the Frenchman over a potential summer move.

Esteve shone for the Clarets in the Championship last season and was briefly linked with a move to North London midway through the campaign.

That move failed to materialise, but it could be back on the cards again this summer, and if that were to happen, it would surely spell the end for Romero.

Reports since the news broke claim that nothing is advanced, though it wouldn’t be a surprise to see that change in the near future.

Tottenham must shop more in the Championship

Esteve is, of course, a Premier League player now, but all of this interest stems from his displays in the second tier.

He isn’t the only top player to have emerged from the EFL, with Spurs’ own Archie Gary following a similar path, and several others doing the same over the last few years.

Tottenham can find some absolute steals via scouting in the lower leagues, while also bolstering their squad in the process.
