Tottenham showed ‘consistent’ interest in ‘special’ striker but he’s now joining West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled to get deals done for multiple targets in the winter window.

Ange Postecoglou’s side returned to winning ways against Brentford on Sunday, but they are still in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

The Spurs boss needs more help from the transfer market, and fans are hoping that their side can get one or two deals done on deadline day.

However, one Tottenham striker target will not be moving to North London.

Why Evan Ferguson has picked West Ham move instead of Tottenham

Evan Ferguson was linked with a move to several clubs since the transfer window began in January.

The Brighton and Hove Albion striker, hailed as ‘special’ by Jamie Carragher on The Gary Neville Podcast, was viewed as one of the biggest talents in the Premier League a couple of seasons ago, but his stock has fallen over the last 18 months.

Despite that, TBR Football revealed that Ferguson was attracting interest from the likes of Tottenham, West Ham, Chelsea, Everton and also Arsenal.

West Ham were leading the race for Ferguson’s signature for over a week now, and the Irons have sealed the deal for him after he completed his medical on Sunday.

An announcement is now imminent, but the Daily Mail have revealed that Tottenham had been ‘consistent’ in their pursuit of Ferguson until he decided to join West Ham.

The reason behind the young striker’s decision was that a reunion with his old boss Graham Potter appealed to him more than any other move.

So, Tottenham, who had already missed out on the likes of Randal Kolo Muani and Mathys Tel, failed to land Ferguson as well.

Tottenham’s transfer priority on deadline day

Tottenham have been in need of reinforcements in attack and defence since the start of the window.

Kevin Danso was announced as a new Spurs player on Sunday after the North Londoners hijacked Wolves’ move to sign him.

You would think that their focus would turn to a new striker now, but Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham want another centre-back because Radu Dragusin’s injury is serious.

Axel Disasi is the player Spurs want, but the Chelsea defender prefers Aston Villa because Unai Emery’s side can offer Champions League football.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham can change his mind in the coming hours.

Potential Tottenham deals on transfer deadline day, with Axel Disasi loan move mooted and attacking reinforcements needed

Despite having so many first-team players out injured, Tottenham Hotspur have left it late to add to their squad, and deadline day could be a busy one.

Ange Postecoglou has seen his Tottenham squad depleted over the last few weeks, with big names like Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, and Dominic Solanke out injured.

It has left youngsters like Archie Gray to step up, while the arrival of Antonin Kinsky in goal has helped, too. But, Spurs fans had to wait until February 1st for the first outfield signing of the window, with the arrival of Kevin Danso.

In the last week, Spurs have seen approaches knocked back by Fikayo Tomori and Mathys Tel, making their search for new signings all the more desperate.

Now, with the final hours on the deadline day clock ticking down, Tottenham must surely find a new attacker, and potentially another defender, too. So, here are the deals to watch out for today.

Spurs still chasing Axel Disasi loan deal

In a rather surprising turn of events, Tottenham have been linked with a move for Chelsea defender, Axel Disasi, with a loan deal mooted.

It is thought the player must now decide between Spurs and Aston Villa on deadline day. A Chelsea exit appears to be on the cards for the 26-year-old, with the club clearly more than happy to move him on.

Tottenham may have snapped up Danso already, but with Radu Dragusin out long-term, and Romero still no closer to a return, the Lilywhites obviously feel they need more defensive cover.

Alejandro Garnacho or Christopher Nkunku could make shock move

Meanwhile, in just as shocking news, Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Alejandro Garnacho and Christopher Nkunku.

It is well-known that Postecoglou wants more attacking players to reinforce his squad after a spate of injuries, and it seems Spurs are leaning towards Premier League-proven talent.

Apparently, United would want around £70m for Garnacho, but any exit for the young Argentinian could be complicated by the fact Marcus Rashford is set to join Aston Villa.

Meanwhile Nkunku is open to leaving Chelsea, but only if it’s a permanent deal. Whether Tottenham would actually sanction such a move remains to be seen. Indeed, both of these targets feel unlikely for Spurs at this junction.

Spurs are looking to the future with Tyler Dibling and Tommy Watson interest

More likely for Spurs is the idea of signing younger talent who can help in those attacking areas. There has been longstanding interest from N17 in Southampton starlet Tyler Dibling, and they could test the Saints’ resolve on deadline day.

A swap deal involving Dane Scarlett has been suggested as one avenue that could be explored. It is thought Daniel Levy is personally leading the charge on that front.

Meanwhile, Spurs are one of many top flight clubs monitoring Sunderland youngster Tommy Watson this month. Tottenham face competition from Brighton, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace for the teenager.

The winger has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Sunderland this term, though he has missed the last two months through injury. It is expected Watson could cost around £10m, but the Black Cats want a replacement before they let him go.

Fabrizio Romano shares the real reason why Chelsea’s Axel Disasi wants to join Aston Villa over Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are both interested in signing Axel Disasi from Chelsea on loan until the end of the season.

Transfer deadline day is here, and several top clubs are expected to be busy on the market.

Tottenham have been in need of reinforcements in attack as well as defence since the window opened. Kevin Danso was brought in on Sunday, but Spurs need another centre-half.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on one Tottenham target – Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.

Why Axel Disasi prefers Aston Villa over Tottenham

Tottenham have faced multiple rejections already in this window.

Randal Kolo Muani said no to Spurs and joined Juventus from PSG in January, while Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel also turned down Tottenham.

TBR Football exclusively revealed that Disasi wants to join Aston Villa instead of Tottenham before Monday night’s deadline, but there is a problem.

Chelsea aren’t too keen to let the defender move to Villa Park because they feel Unai Emery’s side are their direct rivals in the Premier League.

That is why the Blues have accepted Tottenham’s loan proposal for Disasi, but the player is adamant that he wants to move to Aston Villa.

Why? Romano has revealed that the Frenchman wants to play Champions League football this season – Villa can offer that to him but Spurs cannot as they are in the Europa League.

Romano said in a video on his YouTube channel: “Disasi, agreement, Chelsea-Tottenham. You can tell me ‘yes, Tottenham already signed a centre-back – Kevin Danso from Lens’. What I can tell you is that Tottenham want one more because Dragusin’s injury is very serious.

“So, they are trying for this agreement with Chelsea. Loan deal, no buy option, big loan fee, but the player, as of now, midnight, is still not accepting Tottenham.

“They are pushing from the club to see what happens with Disasi, but why he’s not accepting? Because he wanted to go to Aston Villa, play Champions League football.

“He spoke to Unai Emery, but Chelsea are saying no to Aston Villa for Joao Felix and for Disasi because they are seen as direct competitors for the Champions League spot in the Premier League.”

Tottenham set to miss out on another target

Getting rejected by Tel and Kolo Muani was bad enough for Tottenham, and Disasi, a player Chelsea signed for £38 million (Guardian), could join the list too now if he doesn’t change his stance on deadline day.

That, however, is not all.

Tottenham were linked with a move to sign Breel Embolo from Monaco in the final days of January, but that move is unlikely too now.

L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi has reported that Embolo is set to stay at his current club despite strong interest from Spurs in recent days.

Ange Postecoglou delivers Kevin Danso signing verdict as Tottenham win 2-0 vs Brentford

Tottenham Hotspur have made their second signing of the winter transfer window by bringing in Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens.

Danso expressed his desire to win trophies in a Spurs shirt immediately after heading to N17.

Ange Postecoglou will certainly be delighted by the Austrian’s seeming winning mentality as he aims to break the Lilywhites’ almost 17-year duck without having won a single piece of silverware.

Kevin Danso, 26 has plenty of experience under his belt and having made his way to the Premier League, the seasoned centre-back would be hoping to take his career to the next level.

Ange Postecoglou says Kevin Danso loan move to Tottenham is “brilliant”

The atmosphere surrounding Spurs has become far more positive than it has been in recent weeks following Danso’s arrival and their surprise 2-0 win against Brentford.

Postecoglou, whose job is safe at Tottenham for the time being will be hoping that his side continue to keep marching in the right direction in the coming weeks.

Ange Postecoglou certainly feels Danso, for whom Tottenham hijacked Wolves’ move is a quality signing for Spurs.

Postecoglou said via journalist Tom Barclay: “Brilliant [to get him]. I think Kevin will be a great fit for us. We’re a little bit short at the back, have been for a while and he’s just really experienced, a good one-on-one defender.”

“I’ve said before that getting new players in gives us energy and will give the group energy. I’m looking forward to him being part of the group.”

Danso previously admitted Arsenal were his dream club but that would have changed the minute Tottenham tried to sign him. Danso is considered a top centre-half and considering how leaky Spurs habe been at the back this season, his presence should add solidity to the side.

Why Tottenham were initially “put off” by Kevin Danso transfer

Tottenham were “put off” by Danso’s signing initially but as soon as the asking price decreased, they decided to make a move for him.

“They were put off by the original €30m+ (£24.9 million) price tag. Then when Wolves agreed a loan, they first called to say they would match it knowing the player was keen. And finally got a deal for €25 million (£20.8 million). Late window price drop made the difference to the final formula.”

Cristian Romero remains injured and with Micky van de Ven easing into proceedings after his own fitness issues, Danso could help them remain stable at the back.

Furthermore, Radu Dragusin’s knee injury could be serious as well.

With that being the case, Tottenham perhaps made the right call by pouncing at the chance to secure Danso’s services, who already seems to have a fan of his in Ange Postecoglou.

Thomas Frank says Tottenham did something 'fantastic' during 2

Tottenham recorded an impressive 2-0 win over Brentford on Sunday to ease the pressure on Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs came into this London derby sitting 16th in the Premier League – following a run of six defeats in the last seven league outings – so it was imperative for Tottenham to pick up three points.

That they did thanks to an own goal from Vitaly Janelt and a late strike by Pape Matar Sarr – moving the north Londoners up to 14th in the Premier League.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Thomas Frank shared what surprised him about Tottenham at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Thomas Frank surprised – and impressed – by Tottenham’s defending

The Dane praised Spurs for their defending in his post-match interview, even suggesting it was the best he’s seen Tottenham defend throughout the entire season, in a rare show of solidity at the back for a side who have leaked 37 Premier League goals this season.

Frank – who Tottenham admire and would consider if Postecoglou is sacked – said: “Tottenham were very aware of how they wanted to defend us. Maybe some of the best defending they have done in the season.

“They defended the box fantastic, closed down our situations well, either closed it down quickly or made a foul.”

Sunday’s success at Brentford was the first time Tottenham have kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since the 5-0 win away to Southampton on 15th December, so Frank was perhaps expecting a less formidable Spurs side to rock up at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Therefore, Tottenham deserve credit for shutting out the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa – who Spurs looked at signing – especially with key men such as Destiny Udogie, Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario still missing from their backline.

Ange Postecoglou still eager to bolster his backline

Tottenham beat Wolves to the signing of Kevin Danso on Saturday night to reinforce the defence – although Postecoglou is still keen to add another central defender in addition to the Austria international.

TBR Football understand Spurs are still trying to sign Axel Disasi from Chelsea – with the north Londoners keen for depth after losing Radu Dragusin to a serious knee injury on Thursday.

However, Aston Villa also want the France international, so Tottenham do not have an easy run at his signature by any means.

Danny Murphy says Tottenham have two ‘middle-tier players’ who Daniel Levy seriously overpaid to sign

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Tottenham Hotspur haven’t had a great season at all in the Premier League.

Spurs have lost way more games than they have won this season and are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

There’s a very high chance that the 2024/25 season could see Tottenham finish outside the top 10 for the first time in 17 years.

Ange Postecoglou will have to accept a lot of the blame, but some of his players are not good enough to win things, claims Danny Murphy.

Danny Murphy gives brutal Richarlison and Brennan Johnson verdict at Tottenham

Tottenham have quite a few top-quality players in their side.

Son Heung-min is a wonderful player despite his form this season, as are the likes of James Maddison, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dejan Kulusevski.

Dominic Solanke has also done a great job following his big-money signing from Bournemouth back in the summer transfer window.

However, Spurs need to add many more elite players if they want to have any chance of competing for the big trophies.

Murphy, who knows Tottenham very well having played for them, feels Spurs tend to pay big money on ‘middle-tier players’ like Brennan Johnson and Richarlison, who are never going to help them win the Premier League.

He wrote in the Daily Mail: “Levy isn’t ambitious is a claim I’ve heard made about him, but hiring Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte showed how much he wants to grace Tottenham’s fantastic stadium with trophies.

“I’d argue instead that his ambition has been misplaced.

“Instead of pushing the boat out for a couple of established stars, he’s paid too much on middle-tier players. Brennan Johnson and Richarlison are two examples — neither were cheap, but neither will turn your team into title contenders.”

Brennan Johnson and Richarlison’s stats compared at Tottenham

Tottenham paid £47.5 million to sign Johnson from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023, while Daniel Levy agreed to a £60 million deal to land Richarlison from Everton a year earlier.

Over £100 million on two attacking players should guarantee success, especially when they were signed to play with a world-class player like Son.

But, Johnson and Richarlison’s stats don’t quite justify their price tag.

A combined 35 goals from 144 games by two players is simply not good enough when you consider the fact that they cost over £100 million.

Murphy may have a point – Tottenham are spending way too much money on players who are not delivering enough on the pitch.

Levy must take a long, hard look at his side’s recruitment and change things. If he doesn’t, Spurs will continue to struggle.

James Maddison left stunned by one Tottenham player in 2-0 win over Brentford

Unfortunately for James Maddison, he wasn’t able to be part of Tottenham Hotspur’s timely win and excellent performance against Brentford.

Ange Postecoglou desperately needed a Premier League win and his Tottenham players delivered, showing an unusual defensive resilience at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Kevin Danso will be ready to join Spurs’ back line on Thursday in their Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg if Postecoglou so chooses.

But on Sunday afternoon in west London it was Ben Davies who partnered Archie Gray at centre-back, a duo Tottenham fans would never have expected to see a few months ago.

Radu Dragusin is now injured, underlining the importance of Danso’ arrival, but alongside Spurs’ full-backs, Postecoglou’s makeshift back line did him proud during their 2-0 win.

Pedro Porro was solid defensively, and Djed Spence delivered a Player of the Match performance to marvel.

James Maddison picks Djed Spence as Tottenham’s best player vs Brentford

That being said, James Maddison took to X to celebrate Spence’s performance after the game.

Spence once again appeared as Postecoglou’s left-back, which isn’t even the £20m defender’s strongest position, at least on paper.

It’s now remarkable to think that Tottenham wanted to sell Spence in the summer, there seemingly wasn’t too much appetite to give the 24-year-old more chances.

However, injuries have forced Spurs’ hand, and it’s now clear that Postecoglou got it wrong with Spence, who he was happy to let go.

Sharing his thoughts on Tottenham’s and Spence’s display, Maddison wrote on X: “So proud of the boys watching that away performance!! Djed Spence MOTM by a country mile. Coysssss.”

Of course, it would now seem appropriate for Spurs to add Spence to their Europa League squad as soon as possible.

Archie Gray also deserves so much credit for his Brentford showing

When celebrating Spurs’ back line, Gray also can’t be given enough credit for how he continues to thrive in such difficult circumstances.

Gray now has yet another centre-back partner in Davies, who he can actually learn a lot from in terms of his experience.

And with Danso available against Liverpool as mentioned, it will be interesting to see how Postecoglou approaches the game, which might not be ideal for a debut.

Perhaps Danso might even go in as a third centre-back, it’s a big call for Postecoglou.

But all in all it was a much more positive afternoon for Spurs on the road, whose fans will be returning to N17 hoping that their club are quite done yet ahead of the transfer deadline.

Tottenham fans have a clear message for Daniel Levy following Richarlison’s display vs Brentford

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have a clear message for Daniel Levy regarding Richarlison’s performance in their 2-0 win over Brentford.

Ange Postecoglou’s side secured their first Premier League in eight matches as they won away in West London for the first time since the Bees were promoted.

Pape Matar Sarr and Heung-min Son’s deflected corner was the difference between the two teams and the win lifted the Lilywhites into 14th place.

But with just one more day remaining in the transfer window, Spurs’ supporters have been urging their club to make a few more additions before it slams shut.

Tottenham fans want to replace Richarlison in the transfer window

Tottenham fans have been calling for the club to upgrade on Richarlison before the transfer window closes on Monday evening.

The Brazilian had a tough afternoon in West London despite his team winning 2-0 and securing a vital win ahead of a decisive week in their season.

The 27-year-old is currently deputising for the injured Dominic Solanke who is set to miss several weeks with a knee injury.

Spurs have a big week approaching with a Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg clash with Liverpool before travelling away to Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

Spurs supporters feel they will need a better striker than Richarlison if they are to stand a chance and have taken to X to share their thoughts on the situation.

One fan said: “Ange, please sign a new forward Son and Richarlison look shattered on the pitch.”

“We badly need a forward in before the window shuts, Son and Richarlison struggling hard here, clearly knackered,” added another.

One Spurs supporter said: “Forget about any Carabao Cup final with Son and Richarlison in attack was a good run but the focus now should be Europa and not getting relegated.”

“My only negative is we simply can’t keep persisting with Richarlison upfront anymore. If Solanke is out, then the club have to buy a forward tomorrow,” claimed another.

Will Tottenham sign anyone else before the transfer window closes?

TBR Football understands that Tottenham are looking to bring in an attacker before Monday’s transfer deadline.

As TBR Football reported on Saturday, Tottenham have made enquiries for Christopher Nkunku, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyler Dibling and James McAtee, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

Meanwhile, they are also working on signing another defender and Spurs are still pushing to sign Chelsea defender Axel Disasi.

Ange Postecoglou got it wrong with £13m Tottenham player who was seriously good against Brentford

New Tottenham Hotspur signing Kevin Danso will have enjoyed what he saw from his new teammates during Spurs’ 2-0 win over Brentford at the Gtech Stadium.

Despite Tottenham’s torrid form and Brentford’s remarkable home record, it was all smiles for the likes of Antonin Kinsky and Ben Davies who were high-fiving in front of the away end at full-time.

Ange Postecoglou was desperate for a Premier League win and his Spurs side delivered in very tough circumstances.

Danso obviously wasn’t available to feature for Spurs having only signed on the morning of the game, and without Radu Dragusin, it was Ben Davies who partnered Archie Gray at the heart of Tottenham’s defence.

And whilst the duo impressed, Spurs’ full-backs also deserved a ton of credit, Pedro Porro and Djed Spence.

Spence in particular was outstanding at left-back, a redemption story that shows no sign of slowing down.

Djed Spence proved his talent once again with superb Brentford performance

Up against Bryan Mbeumo – one of the Premier League’s best right-wingers, Spence wasn’t dribbled past once according to Sofascore.

Mbeumo was getting some joy when drifting into central areas, but that was arguably to get away from Spence, who was giving him no joy on Tottenham’s left.

Spence made four tackles, five clearances and also won eight duels against Brentford – an incredible all round performance.

Of course, it was also Spence’s attacking energy which caught the eye in Spurs’ 2-0 win, with the £13m defender playing a crucial role in the lead up to Pape Matar Sarr’s second goal.

Spence was constantly driving down the left when possible, also playing two key passes, which is an understated area of his game.

All in all, it was a performance which once again asked the question of why Postecoglou didn’t want to give Spence a chance earlier in the season.

Ange Postecoglou nearly got it wrong with Djed Spence at Tottenham

Postecoglou actually wanted to sell Spence in the summer, and he’s only now getting his chance because of the level of injuries at the club.

Speaking very candidly about the situation earlier this month, Postecoglou recognised Spence’s progress, performances which may not have happened if the Tottenham manager was able to offload the defender last summer.

Now, fans in N17 would surely be livid were Spence not continued to be rewarded with starts in recognition of his excellent form.

According to the same Sofascore ratings, Spence was Tottenham’s highest performing player against Brentford, a full-back who is playing out of position on the left too.

Perhaps Postecoglou will actually now consider the left-hand-side as Spence’s strongest, a superb talent who will be ready to test himself further against Liverpool on Thursday.

Chelsea’s Axel Disasi decides which club he would rather join out of Aston Villa and Tottenham

TBR Football understands that Axel Disasi’s preference is to join Aston Villa over Tottenham Hotspur at this stage.

Aston Villa are looking to sign a new central defender in the final days of the window after completing deals for both Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio.

Tottenham have agreed a £21 million deal for Kevin Danso but remain intent on bringing in one more defender before Monday’s deadline.

TBR Football expects Disasi to leave Chelsea before the window slams shut at 11pm (UK time) on Monday with the Frenchman no longer part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.

Axel Disasi prefers Aston Villa over Tottenham

Aston Villa are working on deals to sign both Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and Villarreal’s Juan Foyth, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

Unai Emery is enjoying a very busy end to the window as he looks to get four deals over the line with Rashford and Asensio set to sign.

Rashford is set to join Villa on loan and Asensio has also agreed to a loan move until the end of the season from Paris Saint-Germain.

Now, the Midlands club have started work on deals for Foyth and Disasi with the ideal situation being that they sign both defenders.

Currently, a move for the Argentine is in doubt with the Premier League side struggling to agree on a fee with Villarreal – who aren’t keen to sell him.

Disasi is a much easier deal with Chelsea hopeful of moving him on and TBR Football can reveal that an agreement is now close and could get done very quickly.

In case anything was to change, Tottenham would consider moving for Disasi on loan if he showed a desire, but seems he would rather Villa at this point.

Tottenham looking to sign another central defender

Tottenham have just announced the signing of Kevin Danso on loan with an obligation to buy which is reportedly worth around £21 million.

But sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey that Spurs still want to add another centre-back in addition to Danso and are exploring loan options.
