Description

Tottenham Hotspur have a busy summer ahead as they begin their search for a new manager along with new players to strengthen their ranks.

On Friday, Tottenham stunned the football world by sacking Ange Postecoglou, despite the Australian having ended Spurs’ trophy drought just a few weeks ago.

Ange Postecoglou led Tottenham to Europa League glory, giving the club their first trophy since 2008 and first European triumph since 1984.

In addition, Tottenham’s Europa League win means they have now qualified for the Champions League, which in turn opens up a world of potential on numerous fronts.

Not only are Tottenham more likely to attract the top players thanks to their place in Europe’s top club competition, but they could attract more lucrative sponsorship deals too.

Indeed, it has now been reported that Tottenham are actually underselling their front-of-shirt and sleeve sponsorship, which means a bumper payday could be on the cards in the coming years.

Tottenham ‘undervalued’ by more than £9million per year

The Sponsor has published its annual Premier League fair market sponsorship values research, covering all 20 clubs’ front-of-shirt and sleeve sponsorship assets.

The results show that some clubs and sponsors are getting a great deal, while others are overpaying – and Tottenham are one of the most undervalued clubs around.

Spurs’ current Fair Market Value (FMV) is deemed to be £49.1million, while their current front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with AIA is reported to be £40million per year.

As per the methodology in place, Tottenham are undervalued by £9.1million, with just Liverpool above them (deemed undervalued by £15.9million).

Alongside the prospect of increasing their front-of-shirt sponsorship deal once the AIA deal expires in 2027, there’s also the enticing prospect of the stadium naming rights.

Adam Williams, TBR Football’s Head of Football Finance and Governance Content, has explained how Tottenham could find themselves with an additional £600million-plus in the wake of The Sponsor’s latest FMV report.

How revised front-of-shirt deal and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium naming rights could fetch the club a further £600million

“I think it’s always worth taking these pieces of research with a pinch of salt,” Williams exclusively tells TBR Football.

“Ultimately, ‘value’ is subjective, but this is a good guide and entry point into the valuations backed up by real expertise.

“One thing to note is that the headline figures we see with front-of-shirt sponsors often don’t tell the full story.

“Clubs like Spurs will get a significant chunk of the money as basic fee. That means they’ll get, let’s say, £30m upfront and then another £10m of the £40m fee is dependent on performance on the pitch and other factors.

“Some clubs choose to report the top-end of that potential sum, whereas others will be more conservative.

“I don’t know how Spurs have handled the deal with AIA specifically, but I do know that he has signalled at fan forums and such that Spurs will project revenue more conservatively generally speaking. So the reported £40m they get from AIA might actually be a little higher.

“Either way, the AIA deal expires in 2027. They will be considering their options now. I think a lot will depend on sporting performance between now and then. If Spurs can capitalise on Champions League football next season and kick on, then they are a really good sponsorship prospect.

“The deal has been worth £320m all-told, or thereabouts depending on the fixed and variable pay. With the direction of travel with sponsorship in general, I think they’ll be looking for another £5-10m on their current rate.

“With Spurs, there is always the stadium naming rights issue too. They don’t seem in a hurry to get a naming rights deal – indeed, the commercial department has said as much.

“But if they do decide to go down the naming rights route, announcing it alongside a front-of-shirt deal would have maximum impact.

“If they choose that approach, I think £60m-a-year is realistic. You’re also almost certainly looking at a 10-year deal in that case, so you’d be getting towards a £600m figure.

“There are a fair few ifs and buts there, but having that kind of revenue guaranteed allows you to plan several seasons in advance as far as transfer budgets etc are concerned.”

Harry Redknapp explains how Manchester United could be partly to blame for Tottenham sacking Ange Postecoglou - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans began the weekend in a state of shock after the club decided to sack Ange Postecoglou on Friday evening.

Postecoglou’s time at Tottenham has come to an end despite leading the club to their first trophy in 17 years in the Europa League last month.

Admittedly, Postecoglou did struggle in the Premier League, finishing 17th in the table after 22 defeats in the competition.

Harry Redknapp has now shared why Manchester United – or more specifically, a decision they made last season – may be partly to blame for Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Postecoglou.

Daniel Levy may have been inspired by Manchester United decision to keep Erik ten Hag after FA Cup win

Redknapp spoke to talkSPORT about Postecoglou’s sacking, admitting he saw it coming after Levy didn’t come out in support of his manager post-Europa League.

The former Tottenham boss explained how Levy’s decision could have been inspired by Man United’s continued woes under Erik ten Hag despite their FA Cup win last season.

Man United ended up sacking Ten Hag midway through last season, and Ruben Amorim wasn’t able to save the club from their worst campaign in decades.

“Overall I suppose Daniel has looked at it and is thinking, ‘hang on’,” said Redknapp.

“Man United kept Ten Hag last year after winning a cup and they went out and bought some players under his leadership and then suddenly they sack him.

“Were they going to take that chance with Ange? Bringing four or five new players and suddenly things haven’t improved in the league by Christmas, then they have to sack him and are stuck with the players he brought in.

“He looks a good guy and I’d have liked to have seen him given more of a chance but it was never going to happen once Daniel didn’t come out and support him.”

Other managers who flopped after iconic trophy wins

Redknapp’s theory makes sense, and there’s no denying that Postecoglou’s second season in the Premier League was nothing short of atrocious.

In addition, Ten Hag is not the first manager to do so badly in the league after a trophy win that bought him more time.

Nine years ago, Leicester City won the Premier League title against all odds, but the following season, Claudio Ranieri struggled in the top flight.

Nine months on from their title win, Ranieri was sacked with the club one point above the drop zone with 13 matches left.

Craig Shakespeare’s appointment as caretaker proved a good decision, as he kept the Foxes up.

Meanwhile, Roberto Di Matteo won both the Champions League and the FA Cup as caretaker in 2012, but he couldn’t follow this up the following year.

The Italian was sacked not long before Chelsea became the first reigning Champions League holders to exit the tournament at the group stage.

Caretaker Rafael Benitez rallied the team round and got them into the Champions League, along with winning the Europa League after dropping down into the competition.

If Tottenham end up doing well in the Premier League and Champions League next season, then Levy’s decision will seem justified.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are now searching for a new manager after opting to sack Ange Postecoglou on Friday evening.

Spurs had been gearing up to sack Postecoglou no matter what the outcome of the Europa League final was, and the deed has now been done.

Postecoglou’s dismissal comes just over a fortnight after he guided Tottenham to European glory, giving the club their first trophy since 2008.

However, Postecoglou has paid the price for a poor domestic campaign, with Spurs finishing a lowly 17th in the Premier League table.

Tottenham defender Pedro Porro has now posted a heartfelt tribute to Postecoglou in the wake of the Australian’s dismissal.

Pedro Porro will ‘always be grateful’ to Ange Postecoglou

Pedro Porro took to Instagram to praise Ange Postecoglou for a number of reasons, including helping him settle at N17 and for trusting him out on the pitch.

The Spaniard also praised Postecoglou for how he coached the team, along with giving Spurs one of the greatest moments in their history.

“Thank you for everything, boss,” wrote Porro. “For mentoring me early on, helping me settle into the club, and trusting me out on the pitch.

“I’ll always be grateful for the way you led us, defended us, and kept us going through all the highs and lows.

“Above everything, you gave us one of the greatest moments in the club’s history and for that, you’ll always be celebrated.

“Wishing you all the very best, boss.”

Who could be next in the Tottenham dugout?

Postecoglou has been the subject of many tributes – along with Porro, Graham Roberts has also praised Postecoglou.

Tottenham fans are especially gutted over Postecoglou’s sacking, as they felt he truly understood the club.

However, the deed is done, and Spurs will now need to look for a replacement.

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has confirmed that Brentford’s Thomas Frank is the frontrunner to replace Postecoglou at Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur have made the decision to sack Ange Postecoglou despite his Europa League-winning efforts just a few weeks ago.

Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal comes just over a fortnight after he guided Tottenham to European glory, giving the club their first trophy since 2008.

However, Postecoglou has paid the price for a dismal domestic campaign, with Spurs finishing a lowly 17th in the Premier League table.

Graham Roberts, one of the stars of Tottenham’s previous European triumph, has now paid tribute to the Australian in the wake of his dismissal.

Graham Roberts says Tottenham fans will ‘never forget’ Ange Postecoglou

Roberts, who lifted the UEFA Cup with Tottenham in 1984, took to X with a heartfelt message for Postecoglou.

“Thank you Ange – you changed many fans life’s in Bilbao,” wrote Roberts.

“Many memories all of us will have with our kids and friends forever.

“A great man and remembered as a man who won us this Europa cup which we had not done since 1984!

“You got us over the line and we will never forget you.”

Roberts then posted: “Thanks Big Ange, we won’t forget.”

Who could replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has revealed that Brentford’s Thomas Frank is the frontrunner to replace Postecoglou at Tottenham.

“I can confirm that talks have been ongoing with potential replacements for weeks,” Bailey said.

“And our information is that Brentford’s Thomas Frank has emerged as the leading contender in the last couple of weeks.

“As we reported, Daniel Levy has been impressed with Frank during conversations.”

Other managerial names have been assessed by Spurs’ hierarchy as they look for alternatives to Postecoglou.

These include former boss Mauricio Pochettino, along with Roberto De Zerbi, Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner, Kieran McKenna, and Marco Silva.

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian’s time at Spurs has come to an end despite leading the club to their first trophy in 17 years in the Europa League last month.

TBR Football revealed that Postecoglou was expecting to be dismissed, and that has now been made official by the North London club.

Alan Shearer reacts after hearing that Tottenham have sacked Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou has every reason to feel hard done by.

The 59-year-old gave Spurs fans one of the best days of their lives by beating Manchester United in Bilbao recently, and it was clear that he wanted to stay.

However, after a season that saw Spurs lose 22 times in the Premier League and finish just above the relegation zone, Daniel Levy decided to pull the trigger.

Postecoglou has been sacked now, and the reaction on social media is fairly divided.

Some think Tottenham are right to part ways with the Australian, while others feel that Levy has made a big mistake.

Alan Shearer has had his say.

Reacting to the news on X, the Newcastle United legend wrote: “What a stupid game football is!!!!”

Ange Postecoglou’s record at Tottenham

Postecoglou could only survive two seasons at Tottenham.

There was a lot of hope that he was the man to take Spurs to new heights after his tremendous start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but things just fell apart, especially in the Premier League.

Tottenham fans will remember him fondly for that for a long, long time.

What Manor Solomon has privately told Tottenham’s board about his future after his Leeds loan spell

TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Manor Solomon has told Tottenham Hotspur that he wants to stay at Spurs despite interest from Leeds United.

The 25-year-old has been on Spurs’ books for nearly two years now after joining them from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023.

Solomon played just six times for the North Londoners due to injury issues in his debut campaign, but his loan spell at Leeds United gave him all the game time that he wanted.

The Whites want to sign him permanently after his brilliant season at Elland Road, but Solomon has different plans.

Manor Solomon has told Tottenham that he wants to stay

TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, understands that Manor Solomon has told Tottenham that he still feels he has a future in North London following his outstanding campaign on loan at Leeds United.

Daniel Farke’s side are desperate to bring him back to Elland Road, and there is interest elsewhere on the continent in the Israeli winger.

However, Solomon is in no hurry to leave Tottenham, and TBR can confirm that he believes he can break his way back into the Spurs first team.

It remains to be seen whether Ange Postecoglou will remain in charge. It remains likely that he will depart, and that has given Solomon further confidence that he can impress a new boss.

Spurs’ hierarchy were ready to sanction Solomon’s sale, but they are willing, at this moment, to give him a chance in pre-season.

Bailey told TBR: “I am told that Solomon still thinks he can break into the first team at Tottenham. He has gained so much confidence from his spell at Leeds and now feels fully adapted to English football.

“He is a very interesting option, Spurs like him and are ready to let him prove himself during pre-season.”

Manor Solomon’s stats at Leeds United during his loan spell

Solomon had a fantastic season on loan at Leeds United.

After failing to play a game for Tottenham from the end of September 2023 until the following summer, there were doubts over whether he could deliver at Leeds.

But, those concerns went away very quickly thanks to his brilliant performances.

Solomon also scored a 91st-minute winner in Leeds’ last game of the season against Plymouth.

That goal helped Farke’s side finish the campaign ahead of Burnley on goal difference and win the Championship title.

That is why Leeds are desperate to retain his services.

Tottenham set to make shock U-turn on Manor Solomon’s future in major blow for Leeds United

Description

Manor Solomon was a star for Leeds United during his loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Israel international joined Daniel Farke’s side on a season-long loan deal in August last year, and he became a fan favourite at Elland Road.

Solomon played a big part in helping Leeds win the Championship and return to the Premier League. He was outstanding for them.

Leeds would love to sign him permanently, but there could now be a new twist in the tale.

Tottenham could make a U-turn on Manor Solomon’s future

Manor Solomon will still have three years left on his Tottenham contract this summer.

The attacker joined Spurs from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023, but injuries limited him to just six appearances for the North London club.

The move to Leeds United on loan last summer changed everything for Solomon. He played 41 games for the Whites and was brilliant for them.

The expectation was that Tottenham would sell Solomon to Leeds or any other club this summer, but that stance may have changed.

The Sun claim now that Spurs are set to give Solomon another chance this summer.

The North Londoners want to bring him back to the first-team fold during pre-season with the intention of keeping him at the club for the 2025/26 campaign.

Leeds remain keen to sign Solomon, and there are other clubs interested too. But, his fate lies in Daniel Levy’s hands now.

When did Manor Solomon last play for Tottenham?

There is no doubt over Solomon’s talent.

The Israeli attacker is a terrific player. He is good on the ball, versatile and has shown that he is capable of creating and scoring goals.

But, Solomon’s Tottenham career never kicked off, and he only made six appearances for the club – the last of which came in September 2023 against Liverpool in the Premier League.

That was nearly two years ago, which is why it is a big surprise to hear that Spurs are keen to reintegrate him into the squad this summer.

If that does happen, Leeds will have to look elsewhere to strengthen their attack.

What Tottenham’s new CEO Vinai Venkatesham’s relationship with Fabio Paratici is really like

What Tottenham's new CEO Vinai Venkatesham's relationship with Fabio Paratici is really like - TBR Football
Description

TBR Football understands that Tottenham Hotspur’s new CEO, Vinai Venkatesham, and Fabio Paratici already share a good relationship.

Last month, TBR Football revealed that Paratici had agreed terms with Tottenham over a return move to North London. Meanwhile, Venkatesham arrived as CEO back in April.

Paratici was banned by FIFA for two and a half years, which forced him to resign as the sporting director of Spurs. But this summer, the Italian director can finally make his return to football.

Daniel Levy told Paratici he wanted him back at the North London club, and now, the 52-year-old is expected to start work again later this summer.

Fabio Paratici is already heavily involved at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are already being heavily influenced by the very popular Fabio Paratici, who Levy loves, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has been told.

Levy has a lot of trust in the Italian, given his previous stint at the club, and he has continued to have a strong say on everything Spurs do.

Crucially, the new CEO, Venkatesham, also shares the same opinion as Levy, and he is believed to have already forged a great relationship with Paratici.

Johan Lange is expected to remain at the club, despite the arrival of Paratici, although the Dane will be involved in a more commercial role, whilst Paratici focuses on the football.

Bailey told TBR Football: “It’s fair to say that Paratici’s fingerprints are all over anything Tottenham do. He (Levy) trusts him. Vinai (Venkatesham), the new CEO from Arsenal as well, gets on very well with Levy and Paratici. It’s almost like a Holy Trinity operating in the hierarchy now.

“Obviously, Lange is still there, but he’s quite commercial. Paratici is heavily involved in everything Spurs are doing and they love what he’s done before. He’s got brilliant contacts and they trust him.”

Who are Fabio Paratici’s best Tottenham signings?

Paratici was such a major success during his first spell in the capital, as he made several key signings along with appointing a manager like Antonio Conte.

Cristian Romero has to be his best addition to the football club with the Argentine having played such an important role in helping Spurs win the Europa League.

Dejan Kulusevski has also been another important addition with the Swede being arguably their best attacker this season.

Paratici’s contacts in Italy also helped him to land players like Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Four midfielders Johan Lange could now target after Johnny Cardoso rejects Tottenham move

Four midfielders Johan Lange could now target after Johnny Cardoso rejects Tottenham move - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are going to have to look elsewhere for a new midfielder as Johnny Cardoso has decided to join Atletico Madrid this summer.

Cardoso has rejected Tottenham’s move to sign him and he is now expected to remain in La Liga to play for Diego Simeone’s team.

Spurs need a holding midfielder this summer, with the North London club looking to sell Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur struggling for consistency.

But with Cardoso now off the market, Johan Lange will have to look elsewhere for a top transfer target and here are three alternatives TBR Football thinks he should be targeting.

Joao Palhinha or Douglas Luiz would be ambitious moves from Tottenham

TBR Football understands that Bayern Munich are open to selling Joao Palhinha this summer, with the midfielder struggling for game time in Germany.

The Portuguese international was excellent at Fulham which earned him the move to Bayern, however, he has struggled to break into the team under Vincent Kompany.

Now, the midfielder could be set to leave this summer and the Lilywhites should be entering the race to land the 29-year-old.

Meanwhile, Douglas Luiz is another top former Premier League player who could be on the move this summer following an underwhelming stint in Turin.

Juventus made Luiz available for transfer in January, and if that remains the case this summer, he could prove to be an excellent pick-up.

Tottenham should prioritise move for Carlos Baleba

Top of his list should be Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba who was one of the top midfielders in the Premier League last season.

However, much like the case with Adam Wharton at Crystal Palace, getting him out of the Amex could prove extremely difficult.

According to reports, Brighton value Baleba at more than £115m, which Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo, making this deal quite unrealistic for Spurs at this stage.

The 21-year-old’s ability to drive forward with the ball, along with his brilliant passing, would make him a perfect fit for any midfield.

Exequiel Palacios could be an interesting target for Tottenham

Another great target could be Exequiel Palacios from Bayer Leverkusen, with the Argentine midfielder impressing in the Bundesliga over the last two seasons.

Arsenal and Liverpool scouted Palacios last season and Spurs should certainly think about entering the race with both clubs being well stocked in that position.

During their title-winning campaign, the 26-year-old was particularly impressive and he has proved he is ready for the top level.

Should Cristian Romero stay at Spurs, the club should be getting him in contact with his compatriot to convince him about making a move to London.

Insider shares 'absolutely mad' detail now coming from 'people around' Tottenham, he sounds shocked - TBR Football
Description

Over two weeks on from Tottenham Hotspur’s triumph in Bilbao and still there is no clarification over who will be the manager next season.

Daniel Levy could sack Ange Postecoglou despite the Australian coach guiding Tottenham to their first major trophy since 2008.

Levy’s decision on Postecoglou’s future is expected to arrive this week, however, fans remain in the dark as to who will be on the touchline at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

The latest has now been revealed on the situation, and a Spurs insider has revealed an ‘absolutely mad’ detail from the situation.

Ange Postecoglou remains in the dark over Daniel Levy’s decision

Postecoglou and his Tottenham Hotspur coaching staff remain in the dark over Levy’s decision to sack him or not, according to Alasdair Gold.

Currently, the 59-year-old is still on holiday, although Levy has returned from his break. But at this stage, Postecoglou is unaware as to whether he is still in the job.

Gold told Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham: “From what I understand, people around the club, Postecoglou and his staff still have no idea whether they are going to be continuing in their roles for the coming season or not, there’s been no indication either way. That’s absolutely mad, it really is.”

“From what I understand, Daniel Levy had a holiday for a post-season break, but he’s back now. I think Postecoglou’s still away, until the end of this week or early next week. Something should have been made clear now.”

TBR Football understands that Tottenham have spoken to other managers, which suggests that Levy has been strongly considering the change of coach.

Thomas Frank appears to be the leading contender to get the job should the Spurs board opt to remove their current manager from his role.

How much Tottenham would have to pay to sack Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham would have to pay in the region of £4 million to sack Postecoglou, plus the £2 million bonus he is owed from winning the Europa League, according to the Telegraph.

The former Celtic manager has two years left on his current deal in North London, and terms of his exit were agreed before he took the job.

However, Levy has had to fork out much more previously to get rid of managers, especially for Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho.

Spurs paid £12.5 million to remove Pochettino as manager in 2019, before shelling out £16 million to also sack his replacement, Mourinho, two years later.

The Lilywhites will also need to factor in the costs of appointing a new manager and his staff, especially if they are going to pay a release clause, like in the case of Frank at Brentford.
