Description

TBR Football understands that Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are close to reaching an agreement for Cristian Romero.

Diego Simeone has been pushing for the defender to join him in the Spanish capital, and he has convinced him that a move to the Metropolitano is the right move.

As revealed by TBR Football, Daniel Levy offered Romero a new contract, but the defender has now informed him that he wants to leave.

The 27-year-old made it clear that he wants a new challenge, and Atletico was an opportunity too good to turn down.

Tottenham and Atletico Madrid close to Cristian Romero agreement

Talks between Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid over a deal for Cristian Romero are ongoing, with the latter making an offer worth £55 million, sources have told TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey.

Levy had initially told the Spanish club that he wanted £59 million for the World Cup winner; however, TBR Football has learned that an agreement is now close.

The Spurs chairman will try to hold out for his initial valuation, but he’s accepted that Romero is eager to leave the football club, having made a strong push to keep him.

The 63-year-old was willing to make Romero Tottenham’s highest earner, which the defender seriously considered, but following amicable talks, he made it clear he wanted to leave.

Ange Postecoglou called Romero ‘outstanding’ and the departure of the 59-year-old appeared to disappoint the Argentine, who made his feelings clear on his social media.

Atletico are having an ambitious transfer window, and are close to taking their summer spend to over £200 million by also signing Johnny Cardoso, Alex Banea and Matteo Ruggeri.

Tottenham centre-back options after Cristian Romero agreement

Tottenham believe Kevin Danso could start under Thomas Frank next season, as per TBR Football sources, and they are very happy with the defender.

The Austrian international’s move is set to become permanent for £21 million following his solid loan spell at the club last term.

Elsewhere, an agreement for Tottenham to sign Kota Takai is also close, with the 20-year-old Japanese defender expected to make the move to North London.

He will be joined by the arrival of another young defender in Luka Vuskovic, who will finally become a Spurs player almost two years on from when he signed from Hajduk Split.

Radu Dragusin could be sold, as revealed by TBR Football, with the 23-year-old having fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham.

The Romanian defender has struggled to make much of an impact in N17 since his move from Genoa, and he seems keen on a move away this summer.

Dimitar Berbatov names Tottenham legend as the best player he has played with up front - TBR Football
Description

Dimitar Berbatov is widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted players of his generation.

Known for his elegance, vision, and incredible first touch, the Bulgarian forward made his mark at top clubs including Manchester United, Tottenham, and Bayer Leverkusen.

During his career, Dimitar Berbatov played alongside some of European football’s biggest names, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

However, when asked to name his best strike partner, the former Spurs striker was quick to look back on his North London days.

Dimitar Berbatov names Robbie Keane as his best strike partner

In a recent interview with TNT Sports Football on TikTok, Berbatov named Spurs icon Robbie Keane as the best forward he ever played alongside.

Despite sharing the pitch with some of the game’s top strikers, Berbatov praised Keane for their chemistry and productivity in front of goal, calling it a ‘great partnership’ that he genuinely enjoyed.

Berbatov was also asked about the best atmosphere he has played in. While the Bulgarian enjoyed plenty of memorable nights at Old Trafford, he pointed to the 2008 League Cup final between Tottenham and Chelsea at Wembley.

He scored the equaliser to cancel out Didier Drogba’s opener, and Spurs went on to win 2-1 in extra time thanks to Jonathan Woodgate’s decisive goal.

Berbatov recalled it as his first trophy in England, which made it even more special, especially with the support from the Spurs fans.

Dimitar Berbatov’s time at Tottenham and his partnership with Robbie Keane

Berbatov joined Tottenham from Leverkusen in 2006 for a then-record £10.9m, making him the most expensive Bulgarian player at the time.

While he initially took time to settle into the Premier League, he soon found his rhythm. He formed a prolific partnership with Robbie Keane, the duo combining for around 45 goals in the 2006–07 season.

Their strong chemistry earned them a shared Premier League Player of the Month award in April 2007.

Berbatov and Keane played 80 games together, during which both scored 38 goals. Berbatov also provided 23 assists, while Keane contributed 16.

They were also key in Spurs’ 2008 League Cup victory, the club’s only major silverware in recent times until the 2025 Europa League triumph.

Tottenham still want £45m player they bid for in January, but he’s closer to Liverpool now - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could return for a player this summer whom they had a hefty bid rejected for back in January.

The North London club have had a quiet summer transfer window so far, with Mathys Tel’s loan from Bayern Munich being made permanent as their only arrival thus far.

The changing of the manager appears to have affected how quickly Spurs have been able to do business, with Thomas Frank needing to assess his squad.

One player who could become a target this summer now has strong interest from Liverpool. He was also a player whom they made a strong attempt to sign in the winter window.

Tottenham retain Marc Guehi interest

Tottenham Hotspur retain an interest in signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, according to BBC Sport.

The defender has just one year remaining on his current deal at Selhurst Park, and the Eagles are now believed to value him at around £45 million.

As reported by TBR Football, Tottenham bid £70m for Guehi in January; however, the South London club rejected their offer.

Palace did not want to lose such a key player halfway through the season, and the 24-year-old was also not so keen to make his move at that stage.

Now, this summer, Guehi is an option for Liverpool, and the Lilywhites would face a tough battle to land him should they make their move.

Currently, Steve Parish won’t sell Guehi for a cut-price fee, as per TBR Football sources, and that is causing the Reds’ move to stall.

In the summer of 2026, the defender would be available for nothing if he does not renew his deal in South London.

Marc Guehi could be the perfect Cristian Romero replacement

Guehi could be the perfect replacement for Cristian Romero, who is being strongly linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur.

Atletico Madrid want Romero, and Diego Simeone is pushing to bring his fellow countryman to the Spanish capital.

Reports suggest Daniel Levy will make it tough for Romero to leave Tottenham and will hold out for a high price for the 27-year-old.

Losing a player as good as the World Cup winner would be a major blow for Spurs, but replacing him with a player like Guehi wouldn’t be bad business at all.

One aspect of Romero leaving would be losing his passing, although when you look at the England international’s passing stats, it highlights what a good fit he would be.

Description

Newcastle United are keen on one of Tottenham Hotspur’s top attacking targets this summer.

Thomas Frank’s team haven’t been particularly active following their appointment of him as head coach, with Mathys Tel the only deal they have completed so far.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have seen a bid for Joao Pedro, and their move for James Trafford is seen as ‘difficult’, as reported by TBR Football.

Both clubs are now working on various targets, and they seem to have stumbled upon the same option, with Newcastle having just expressed an interest.

Tottenham can’t allow Xavi Simons to join Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur must ensure that Xavi Simons is not allowed to join Newcastle United this summer, and the Lilywhites must rival any offer the Tyneside club make.

Newcastle are keen on Simons, according to Give Me Sport, with RB Leipzig now open to selling the attacker for around £60 million.

The Bundesliga club missed out on European football altogether last term, and therefore, the Dutch international is keen to leave.

Simons wants a Premier League move, and several clubs from England, including Newcastle, have been made aware of his situation.

Tottenham have asked about signing Simons, and now, they must follow up on that interest in case Howe’s side tries to steal a march on them.

The 22-year-old could be the perfect option for the North London club, given his versatility to play in several different roles in attack.

Son Heung-min could leave Tottenham this summer, and Simons, who’s been dubbed a ‘superstar’, may just be the perfect successor for the club’s legendary captain.

Xavi Simons’ stats compare to Eberechi Eze

Tottenham are also keen on Eberechi Eze, who is a very similar profile to the Dutch midfielder, being able to operate on the wing and also centrally.

Eze is very keen to join Tottenham, although Arsenal have entered the race to sign the Crystal Palace forward, which could complicate things.

Eze has a £60m release clause at Selhurst Park, so Spurs might find it easier to negotiate a deal with Leipzig for Simons.

In terms of numbers last season, Simons outscored Eze in terms of league goals, having played nine fewer matches.

Although it is very close between the pair, and both players would be great options for the Lilywhites, should they move for either.

Thomas Frank may have found the perfect Bryan Mbeumo alternative, Tottenham are ‘closely monitoring’ him

Thomas Frank may have found the perfect Bryan Mbeumo alternative, Tottenham are 'closely monitoring' him - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham Hotspur want a new right winger this summer, and it looks increasingly unlikely that it’s going to be Bryan Mbeumo.

Frank wanted to bring Mbeumo to Tottenham; however, the forward appears to have his heart set on a move to Manchester United instead.

Mbeumo is now close to joining United, TBR Football understands, meaning the Danish head coach will now need to find a new target.

But Tottenham Hotspur may already be monitoring the perfect alternative transfer target, and Frank should be excited by the prospect of working with him.

Thomas Frank should target Harvey Elliott after Bryan Mbeumo rejection

Ahead of the European Champions U-21 final, TBR Football has revealed that among the clubs closely monitoring Harvey Elliott is Tottenham.

RB Leipzig want to bring the Liverpool attacker to the Bundesliga this summer, with Jurgen Klopp pushing for them to bring him in.

However, the German club are set to face strong competition to sign him, with Fulham, Newcastle, Everton, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Leeds, Brentford and West Ham all following him.

Elliott’s performances in England U-21’s triumphant European Champions campaign will have demonstrated to many clubs that he could be an excellent signing.

The Premier League star won the Player of the Tournament award after scoring six goals for the young Three Lions team. Tottenham fans want to sign James McAtee, who lifted the trophy for England.

The attacker’s game time at Liverpool is set to be further restricted following the arrival of Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah being tied down to a new contract.

Therefore, Spurs should be looking to step up their efforts to land the 22-year-old who made just six starts for the Reds last term.

Harvey Elliott could be the perfect fit for Tottenham

The England U-21 player could be the answer to their right-wing issue, while also offering them cover for the number ten role.

Elliott showed his versatility last season by operating through the middle and on the right side of the Reds’ attack. He made ten appearances in the number ten role, but just five as a right winger.

For England U-21, he flourished as a right-sided attacker netting six times, including in the quarter-final, semi-final and final.

The Lilywhites are also in need of home-grown players for their Champions League squad, making a player like Elliott even more valuable to them.

Mikey Moore genuinely thinks Tottenham have a player who is just as fast as Micky van de Ven, 'he's rapid...' - TBR Football
Description

Fans will be shocked to hear the Tottenham Hotspur player who is just as quick as Micky van de Ven.

Micky van de Ven is the Premier League’s quickest player of all time, with his speed being such a key asset for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old is often hailed for his pace, so it will come as quite a surprise to know that Spurs might have a player who is also just as quick.

Mikey Moore and Dane Scarlett are claiming that to be the case and have named the teammate whose statistics show that he is close to the Dutch international.

Mikey Moore thinks Djed Spence is Micky van de Ven-level fast

Moore and Scarlett reckon that Djed Spence is just as fast as Van de Ven if he reaches top speed, and the club’s stats prove it.

The two Tottenham academy graduates were asked who they thought was the fastest teammate, and they were adamant it was close between Spence and Van de Ven.

Scarlett claims that Spence perhaps hasn’t shown it in a game yet, but behind closed doors, the right-back is very close, if not as fast.

Moore said: “Djed is like fast! I think they did the stats, I think Djed is close (to Van de Ven). If he gets to top speed, he’s actually Micky-level. He’s rapid!

Meanwhile, Scarlett added: “Micky or Djed. I don’t think Djed has done it in a game. (He’s quick) With the ball as well. It’s close (between him and Van de Ven).”

Micky van de Ven’s speed ranked against other Premier League players

Premier League players were asked about the defender’s pace, and Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta admitted he hates playing Van de Ven.

The French striker said that the 24-year-old always seems to catch him in a foot race, and for that reason, he is a very tough opponent.

In 2024, Van de Ven became the fastest ever player in the division as he recorded a speed of 37.38 km/h against Everton.

Last term, he reinforced his speed as he was the quickest player and the only person to reach a top speed of above 37 km/h.

But knowing that Spurs have another defender in Spence who is just as quick as Van de Ven will be very useful for Frank to know when setting up his team ahead of next season.

Club ready to make ‘stunning’ bid to sign Tottenham youngster, Thomas Frank faces a tough decision - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have just received a proposal to sell one of their promising defenders.

It has been a rather quiet transfer window thus far for the North London club, with Mathys Tel’s £30m move from Bayern Munich being the only deal so far.

But given the sacking of Ange Postecoglou and Thomas Frank coming in, there was always going to be the need for the new head coach to think about his squad.

This has meant that players arriving and departing Hotspur Way have been delayed, with Spurs receiving a sizeable offer for one of their young talents.

Sheffield United want to sign Ashley Phillips from Tottenham

Sheffield United have told Tottenham Hotspur that they are willing to pay £6 million to sign Ashley Phillips, according to Alan Nixon.

The North London club would be making a decent profit on the defender, having signed Phillips for just £2 million from Blackburn Rovers back in 2023.

The 20-year-old really impressed for Stoke City in the second tier last term, and now he is being offered the chance to play for a team that could be fighting for promotion.

The Blades are eager to take the young defender as they feel he is ready for the top level of Championship football, but they could face a tricky battle to land him.

Phillips, who’s been tipped to become a ‘superstar’, is not being allowed to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at this stage, though, as Frank wants to assess him in pre-season.

Thomas Frank faces Ashley Phillips decision at Tottenham

The former Brentford manager will need to determine whether he has enough cover in defence to allow the former Blackburn defender to leave.

A loan offer for Phillips has already been turned down by Frank, who is adamant that he wants to decide his future himself.

He will also need to see if he is actually ready for Premier League football or if he has the potential to become a solid defender in the top flight.

Three other Tottenham players Thomas Frank must assess

Phillips will be one of several young players Frank will need to cast his eye over during pre-season training as he looks to mould Spurs’ squad.

Luka Vuskovic should be top of his list of young stars he is ready to take a look at, given the young Croat’s potential.

Tottenham are excited by Vuskovic’s potential following his successful loan spell at Westerlo, where he impressed in the Belgian Pro League.

Mikey Moore is another player the Danish head coach needs to think about, as the winger could perhaps benefit from heading out on loan.

Last season, he made 19 appearances for the first team, but struggled to secure a consistent role in the team.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur supporters are eager for the club to start making moves in the summer transfer window.

Mathys Tel is Tottenham’s only signing during the window so far, as the Lilywhites prepare to return to playing Champions League football next term.

Thomas Frank will also be wanting the North London club to kick into life soon, with pre-season just around the corner.

Now, Tottenham Hotspur fans have been calling for Frank to push the club to return for a Manchester City player whom they asked about signing back in January.

Tottenham fans keen on James McAtee after England U-21 triumph

Tottenham fans have been calling for the club to reconsider moving for James McAtee again following his performance in England U-21’s European Championship win.

The young Three Lions won the title in back-to-back tournaments, and the Manchester City academy graduate was the man who lifted the trophy.

The youngster set up Omari Hutchinson’s goal, which put England 2-0 up after just 24 minutes. Meanwhile, Spurs’ Archie Gray remained an unused substitute.

The young talent played a key role in helping Lee Carsley’s side go all the way in Slovakia, and he is one of the players many Premier League clubs should be targeting.

TBR Football revealed that Tottenham enquired about McAtee during the January transfer window as they looked to sign another attacker.

Reports have suggested that Tottenham remain interested in McAtee, and Pep Guardiola’s team are open to selling the 22-year-old this summer.

One fan said: “If McAtee is really available for £25 million, surely that’s a no-brainer?! Young, cheap and English. He’d be a great addition.”

Another supporter added: “If we are not going to sign Eze, Mbeumo or Semenyo. We must go all out to get McAtee and Elliott.”

There were yet more calls for McAtee to be signed: “James McAtee and Harvey Elliott are massive market opportunities this summer, and whoever gets their hands on them as a potential superstar at a cut-price deal. I really hope one of them comes to Spurs.”

Finally, another claimed: “James McAtee for £25m is better value than Archie Gray. I like Archie and believe in him, but it’s a lot of player for such a low fee being English as well, a lot of the ex-Man City academy players now go on to be worth good money, but also very effective.”

James McAtee could add great squad depth at Tottenham

Back in January, Man City rejected £30m for McAtee to avoid a repeat of the Cole Palmer situation, which they will still be kicking themselves over.

But after he made just 11 appearances following those rejected offers and City signed several high-profile players, Guardiola could be open to letting him leave.

He could be the perfect market opportunity for Spurs and offer them great depth in their attacking areas, whilst also counting as home-grown.

McAtee can play in several attacking roles, including as a number ten and as a right-sided forward, which is where Spurs are keen to add players.

Spanish media think Tottenham have just dropped a 'surprising' hint about Cristian Romero's future - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero’s future continues to make the headlines in Spain.

The Argentina international is about to enter the final two years of his contract at Spurs, and there has been a lot of speculation about what’s next.

Atletico Madrid are really keen to sign the defender — Diego Simeone is calling Romero every day to convince him to join them.

It is still unclear if the World Cup winner will be allowed to leave in this window, but there is a lot of hope in Spain.

Spanish media think Tottenham have dropped a hint about Cristian Romero’s future

Tottenham’s media team have been very busy over the last few weeks.

They first had to prepare for Thomas Frank’s arrival after Ange Postecoglou was sacked, and work went into creating a documentary about their Europa League win as well.

To add to that, Tottenham released their away kit this week, and those who handle their social accounts had their hands full with that.

Mundo Deportivo have spotted something very interesting in the video Spurs released to promote their new away kit.

Cristian Romero was nowhere to be seen wearing the new Tottenham away shirt for next season, and that has been suggested as a hint that he could be on the move.

“It is surprising that Tottenham have released a video of their 2025-26 home and away kits, featuring most of their stars, with the exception of Cuti — a player who is their (vice) captain and was the MVP of both the final and the entire Europa League title they won this season,” writes the outlet.

What is Cristian Romero’s relationship like with Daniel Levy at Tottenham?

Romero has fired a few shots at the Tottenham ownership in recent times.

The Argentine has never been shy to express his discontent, and many feel that he wants to leave because of how the club is being run.

Romero aimed a dig at Levy in his farewell message to Postecoglou as well, and he released it after Spurs announced the arrival of Frank as the new boss.

Speaking about Romero and the Spurs board, MD writes: “The player, who has a difficult relationship with president Daniel Levy and his board, wants to leave the club and move to the Metropolitano.”

It remains to be seen if Levy will accept Romero’s demands and let him go in this window.

Liverpool could suddenly help Tottenham sign 'world class' attacker now if Jurgen Klopp gets his wish - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham are keen on bolstering their team ahead of the new season, and Liverpool could inadvertently end up helping them do so.

Thomas Frank has taken over Tottenham after Daniel Levy decided to sack Ange Postecoglou despite winning the Europa League.

A new attacking midfielder is said to be on the agenda, with Tottenham strongly linked with Eberechi Eze.

Another name linked with Spurs is Xavi Simons and a move to England could now be a possibility after former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s recent transfer decision.

Liverpool could help Tottenham sign Xavi Simons as Jurgen Klopp eyes Harvey Elliott

According to TBR Football, Klopp, who is the Head of Soccer at Red Bull, is keen on signing Liverpool star Harvey Elliott.

It is said that Elliott is seen as a potential replacement for Simons at Leipzig.

Simons is a name wanted by several top clubs across Europe, including Tottenham. It has been reported that Spurs have made an ‘active enquiry’ to sign Simons, who has been described as ‘world class‘.

The player is also keen on a move away, with reports stating that Simons has asked to leave Leipzig this summer, despite only joining them permanently for £50m from PSG back in the January transfer window.

Liverpool themselves have been linked with Simons as well, with TBR Football reporting that the club has done their homework on him.

However, with the Reds signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a British record transfer, a move for Simons now looks unlikely.

Who would be a better signing for Tottenham between Xavi Simons and Eberechi Eze

Spurs’ interest in Crystal Palace star Eze is longstanding, dating back to when the player was at QPR.

The interest has grown over the last couple of transfer windows and as per recent reports, Tottenham are confident about signing Eze after being informed about his £68m release clause and the easy financial plan available to sign him.

At the same time, they continue to be strongly linked with a move for Simons, who reportedly has a £60m price tag on him.

In terms of output, Simons racked up 11 goals and eight assists in 33 games across all competitions, while Eze finished the season with 14 goals and 11 assists in 43 games across all competitions.

Eze played 39 games as an attacking midfielder, with all his goal contributions coming from there, and played just 3 games as a left-winger.

In contrast, Simons played 16 games at left wing (scoring 5 and assisting 4) and 15 games as an attacking midfielder (scoring 6 and assisting 4) with similar output from both positions.

Eze has Premier League experience, which could work to his advantage, but both players are top-class players and would significantly improve Tottenham.
