Bayern Munich reach agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for Mathys Tel - Bayern Strikes
Description

Bayern Munich will be active in the transfer market even though the squad is playing in the Club World Cup. Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are with the squad in the USA, but both are working on incomings and departures to strengthen Vincent Kompany’s options for the next season.

In terms of departures, Bayern are close to agreeing a deal for Mathys Tel. According to Christian Falk and Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern have agreed a fee worth €35 million with Tottenham Hotspur for Mathys Tel.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Bayern will get €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons for Tel.

Tel had joined Spurs on loan in January. The Premier League side had paid a loan fee worth €10 million in January. Bayern will be pocketing a total fee of €45 million for the French forward. Spurs had initially agreed an option to buy worth €60 million, but they wanted to negotiate a new fee for the French forward at the end of the season.

Spurs have parted ways with Ange Postecoglou, but that has not affected their idea of signing Tel permanently. The French winger is expected to play a crucial role under the new head coach Thomas Frank. Die Roten also wanted a permanent transfer since he was not recalled to the squad for the Club World Cup after Spurs' campaign came to an end in May.

Mathys Tel’s departure is bitter-sweet for Bayern fans

Bayern will end up making a significant profit on Tel, as they had paid €28 million, including bonuses for him in 2022. He had a quiet debut campaign but exploded under Thomas Tuchel. The French winger was a super sub for Tuchel, scoring 14 goals under him during the 2023/24 campaign.

Tel was handed a new contract last season with the idea of being part of the club’s long-term plans. However, he struggled for game time under Vincent Kompany. Lack of playing time in Hinrunde this season forced him to look for a loan move in January.

The French winger had a mixed loan spell at Spurs, but he showed glimpses of his talent in the Premier League. At the age of 20, Tel still has several areas of improvement, but he surely has the potential to become a top-class forward in the future.

The Bavarian faithful would have hoped to see Tel become a world-class attacker in Munich, which makes his permanent transfer to Spurs a disappointing piece of business this summer. Nevertheless, Bayern fans will hope that funds generated from his departure are used correctly by the club to strengthen the attack.

Tottenham Hotspur look to open negotiations with Bayern Munich for Mathys Tel - Bayern Strikes
Description

Bayern Munich have to maintain a fine balance in terms of incomings and departures this summer. They had a big chunk of transfer funds allocated for Florian Wirtz, but the German star has rejected Bayern and looks closer to joining Liverpool. Despite Wirtz’s rejection, Die Roten need to generate funds from sales to maintain order in their books and wage structure.

Matthys Tel is one of the players in the first team who could generate funds by departure. The French winger left Bayern in January for Tottenham Hotspur. The North London side signed Tel on a loan deal with an option to buy.

Spurs paid a significant loan fee to see off the competition from Manchester United for Tel. The Premier League side has an option to buy Tel for €60 million. However, Spurs are not keen on signing Tel permanently for that type of fee.

According to Football London, Spurs are expected to open negotiations with Bayern to sign Tel at a lower fee. The Premier League side has got a financial injection after qualifying for next season’s Champions League by winning the Europa League. They are interested in keeping Tel for next season, but not at the price Bayern want.

Tel is unlikely to feature in Bayern’s plans for next season as the Bundesliga champions were looking to facilitate a permanent departure for him in the summer.

Tel had a mixed loan spell at Spurs

Spurs ended the campaign strongly by winning the Europa League against Manchester United. However, Tel didn’t have the best loan spells with the North London side. He came off the bench in the final against Manchester United when Spurs were already without several attacking players due to injuries.

Tel managed to score only three goals in six months for Spurs. He got a solitary assist in the Premier League for Ange Postecoglou’s side. However, Tel did manage to get a good amount of game time at Spurs. He featured in 19 games, racking up more than 1200 minutes in the second half of the season.

It remains to be seen if Tel wants to continue at Spurs next season. There are plenty of incentives for him to continue in North London. He will get the opportunity to play in the Champions League and get consistent game time in a competitive league. The Bavarian faithful will hope that Bayern will include a sell-on or first refusal in the deal with Spurs since Tel has the potential to big a top player in the future.

Arsenal, Tottenham inquiring about Bayern winger - Bayern Strikes
Description

Despite holding continuous talks, Bayern Munich and Leroy Sane have not reached any agreement for a future extension. He has turned down the initial offer worth €10 million plus €5 million in bonuses. If this dispute continues further, Bayern could lose out on Sane. The 29-year-old's contract will end in June this year, which is set to make him one of the most sought-after free agents on the market. Sane's representative, Pini Zahavi, has reportedly offered his availability to many top clubs, according to Sky Sports.

According to The Times in the UK, Arsenal has decided to enter the race. The North London team has made several inquiries about Leroy Sane. Head coach Mikel Arteta has worked with the German international before during his tenure as an assistant manager at Manchester City and is open to a reunion. The Gunners have also made a clear intention to bring in a new left-winger to complement Bukayo Saka due to the inconsistency of Gabriel Martinelli. Sane and Arteta's experiences of working together could make this move highly feasible.

Arsenal's arch-rival and lousy neighbor, Tottenham Hotspur, also emerged as one of the frontrunners for Sane's signature had he decided to depart from the Allianz Arena. The reigning Europa League champion has had a great relationship with Bayern Munich in recent years. Leroy Sane could potentially be another player that ties the bond between the two clubs.

Bayern working hard for the extension, but also preparing for the potential departure

Leroy Sane had 13 goals and 5 assists in all competitions last season, including 11 goals in the Bundesliga - his personal record in the league.

Bayern Munich's director of sport Max Eberl had held a decisive conversation with Pini Zahavi in Munich in the past few days. Both sides share a mutual interest to extend Sane's time at the club. Sane himself is also keen to stay. However, no progress has been made yet. Future talks between both parties have also been planned.

These long-drawn contract talks could mean Bayern letting their number 10 find a new home next season. Multiple high-profile players have been discussed as potential new left-wingers. Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma, Liverpool's Cody Gakpo, and AC Milan's Rafael Leao are high on Die Roten's shopping list. All of them could require a relatively hefty price tag around nine figures. Meanwhile, one of the club's winger targets, Olympique Marseille's Luis Henrique, is closing on a move to Inter Milan.
