Manchester United have been handed an injury boost ahead of their Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur next week. United prepared for the final with a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea on Friday night, though it was a performance that offered encouragement to head coach Ruben Amorim.

The United head coach made five changes from the side that lost to West Ham United as he looked to retain match sharpness and manage minutes for the clash with Spurs. Ayden Heaven makes injury return

Manchester United were given a fitness boost when defender Ayden Heaven made an appearance from the bench in the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Friday night. The 18-year-old has been sidelined through injury since he was stretched off in the victory over Leicester before the March international break.

Heaven has made five competitive appearances since he joined from Arsenal at the start of the year and it was a shock to see him involved at Stamford Bridge. The teenage centre-back did not train with the United squad in midweek but was back in the first team two days later for their defeat to Chelsea.

It is unlikely Heaven will start for United against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao next week, but he will hope to have a place on the bench for the match after he stepped up his injury return. Taking to social media on Saturday afternoon, Heaven addressed his return to action. "Felt so good to be back...onto the final in Bilbao," he wrote on Instagram.

His return to action is a huge boost to Ruben Amorim at a time when Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro are both injured and could miss the trip to Bilbao. United take part in their final pre-match training session at Carrington on Tuesday before they fly to Spain later in the day.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have both made key changes to their starting line ups as they play their final Premier League matches ahead of the Europa League final. United face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Friday night while Aston Villa host Spurs at Villa Park.

The two sides will hope to build some momentum with a win tonight, though the main hope will be to avoid any fresh injury setbacks before the defining match in their respective seasons. Leny Yoro - 21 May vs Tottenham (N)

Yoro was spotted undergoing gym work on Wednesday morning and is unlikely to be match fit to face Tottenham. There is still a slim chance he could be named on the bench.

Matthijs de Ligt - 21 May vs Tottenham (N)

De Ligt has missed the last two matches due to injury and will not be in the squad to face Chelsea tonight. United will hope to have him back for the Europa League final, but he won't be fit enough to start.

Diogo Dalot - 21 May vs Tottenham (N)

Dalot is doing everything possible to be fit enough for a place in the Europa League final squad. He took part in an individual training session in midweek and is another who could be named on the bench vs Spurs.

Ayden Heaven - 25 May vs Aston Villa

Heaven was not involved in the club's open training session in midweek, and there is no need to rush him back when he is unlikely to feature anyway. He could be back against Villa or for the post-season tour.

Joshua Zirkzee - Unknown

Zirkzee was ruled out for the remainder of the season after a hamstring injury. It is unclear whether he will be available for the post-season tour of Asia.

Lisandro Martinez - Unknown

Martinez is a long-term injury concern after he underwent successful ACL surgery earlier in the year. There is still no timeframe on when he might be available again.

Ruben Amorim has suggested he will play a strong Manchester United side in their final Premier League match before the Europa League final. United travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Friday night before they face Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao next Wednesday night.

United won't take any unnecessary risks with their team selection for the league encounter, though Amorim also wants to retain match sharpness ahead of their most important match of the season. United are currently 16th in the Premier League but could redeem their campaign if they secure Champions League qualification with victory over Spurs.

Amorim plans to give several key players minutes against Chelsea, though he has hinted that certain individuals will be rested to avoid injury risks. United last played against West Ham on Sunday afternoon, and it would represent a 10-day gap for any player not involved tomorrow night.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to face Chelsea in the Premier League, Ruben Amorim reiterated the best preparation for the Europa League final would be to win at Stamford Bridge. It could be viewed as a controversial policy by some supporters, after Tottenham Hotspur lost star forward Dejan Kulusevski to injury in their dead-rubber defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.

"The best way is to face the game like we should face the game, it is to win the game, we need to perform, to win points in Premier League and that is the feeling," he told reporters. "We talk about that after West Ham. We need to improve in the way we face competitions and stay focused in every moment of the game. Against West Ham we had clear situations to score, in the first situation they have, they score. These details matter. The only way I know how to prepare a final is, in the normal game for our league, we must play the same way as a final.

"We have to try to recover, the best thing to prepare the final is to play the game and then the players have to understand if you play or don’t play against Chelsea, it means nothing to the final. That is important. I am just preparing the game of Chelsea. That is my focus. We want to win and we want to perform."

When asked how close the Manchester United starting line up tomorrow night would be to the one that will face Tottenham next week, he added: "I don’t know. I know the starting 11 I am thinking for Chelsea and then I will see. Even the way we play there against Chelsea I will see it and it will be important for the next one.

"Again, it is going to be a massive part this game to the next one, so we need to perform and they need to perform, that is an important thing. Then we are going to the same way if there is a player that can get an injury and is not recover for this game who would put him at risk of the final he will not play but if it is not that situation, he will have a lot of time to recover. We cannot spend eight or nine days without a game before the final, that is a bad thing for the final. We will prepare for the game."

Five Manchester United players missed their open training session ahead of their Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur next week. Manchester United are preparing for their final away game of the Premier League campaign as they head to Stamford Bridge to face a Chelsea side competing with Manchester City for a place in the top five.

The Red Devils sit 16th in the table and can only reach 45 points as they stare down their worst-ever finish and points total in the Premier League era. They were beaten 2-0 by West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

However, Amorim and his side still have the opportunity to rescue their season as they prepare for the Europa League final. It will be an all-English affair as they take on Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao on Wednesday, May 21. Spurs have had an equally-bad league campaign but one of the top-flight outfits will play Champions League football next season.

United face Chelsea on Friday night after drawing 1-1 with the Blues at Old Trafford earlier in the season. Tottenham are also in action on Friday as they take on Aston Villa.

Can Ruben Amorim rest his entire team against Chelsea?

With United not at threat of relegation, their final placing or points tally in the league is largely irrelevant. Their campaign hinges on the Europa League final and it could mean that Amorim makes several changes against Chelsea.

Amorim is entitled to completely rotate his starting XI and rest key players. That has not always been the case. Blackpool were fined £25,000 during the 2010-11 campaign for rotating 10 of their starting XI, as the Premier League felt they had intentionally fielded a weakened team.

The rule to stop teams rotating heavily was established to ensure that the competition was a level playing field so that clubs were facing the strongest sides from each team. For example, Chelsea could get an easy ride against United on Friday as they go for Champions League football next season - as could Villa when they face a potentially-rotated Spurs XI.

"You are allowed to have 25 players," said legendary United boss Sir Alex Ferguson when asked about Blackpool’s fine at the time. "They ask you to name them. They don't ask you to name your 11 and 14 substitutes. The rules are there."

At the end of the 2010/11 season, clubs agreed to modify the rules that would allow teams to rotate more.

A spokesman for the Premier League said at the time: "The clubs voted at the last Premier League Annual General Meeting to modify the rule regarding clubs fielding full strength teams (E.20). From 2011/12 onwards the rule will allow any combination of players included in a club's 25-man squad list to be selected for a Premier League fixture.

"The 25-man squad rules do allow clubs to pick Under-21 players beyond those named in their squad list and, with this in mind, it was agreed by the clubs that it was appropriate for the rule to remain in place in order to ensure the integrity of the competition."

It means that Amorim can select whoever he pleases from his squad against Chelsea, along with some Under-21s players but this must be done within reason as the rules would not allow Amorim to field a team full of United’s Under-21s side but several could get the nod.

Underperforming Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will collide in the first all-English Europa League final in six years.

The Red Devils are aiming to win the competition for the second time in their history, with their last triumph in the competition coming under Jose Mourinho in 2017. United last reached the final in 2021 but were beaten by Villarreal on penalties.

Meanwhile, Spurs are aiming to secure their third Europa League trophy. The Lillywhites won the competition when it was formerly known as the UEFA Cup back in 1984 by triumphing on penalties against Belgian side Anderlecht after two legs. The capital side also won the inaugural edition of the competition by beating Wolves in 1972.

United are looking to win silverware for the third consecutive season and have hopes of edging closer to Liverpool in the all-time list of trophies won by English football clubs. Meanwhile Spurs are chasing their first honour since winning the League Cup in 2008.

The highly-anticipated match acts as a straight shoot-out for Champions League qualification with the winner earning the final seat at Europe’s elite table next season. It also acts as a big boost in terms of financial fair play and attracting the very best players to sign in the summer.

But what is the monetary value of winning the Europa League and just how significant is this contest for both clubs?

How much do teams earn by playing in the Europa League?

Every team that made the League Phase of the Europa League automatically received £3.6million each for simply qualifying for that stage of UEFA's secondary competition.

United finished eighth last season and were forced to wait until after the season ended to secure their place. They did so by beating local rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Spurs secured qualification by finishing fifth in the league and ultimately finished just two points behind Aston Villa in the Champions League race.

Each win in the league phase handed a club a £379,201 boost, and each draw would see a reward of £126,400 be given out. Those that automatically qualified for the knockout rounds received £505,000 on top of those earnings. United finished third with five wins and three draws while Spurs were closely behind them in fourth with five wins, two draws and one defeat.

Progression in each knockout round increased gradually with United and Spurs both receiving a total of £7.12m for reaching the semi-final. Adding the prize money so far from wins and progressing, United’s prize money so far stands at around £9.3m.

How much will Man Utd earn if they win the Europa League?

The Red Devils and Tottenham are battling to win the maximum reward of £10.95m for winning the Europa League. The losing finalist will also be entitled to £5.9m for their efforts. It means United’s prize money could surpass £20m if they are victorious in Bilbao.

The winner of the Europa League earns approximately half the amount of teams that go all the way in the Champions League.

Champions League winners claim £21.1m for victory in the final while even runners-up receive £15m which is significantly higher than what comes for winning the Europa League final. Therefore the incentive is not just the prize money but the prestige of qualifying for the Champions League which comes the following season.

With clubs performing so poorly in the league and being out of contention to play in any form of Europe, it’s pivotal for both to come out on top in this year’s final in Basque, not just from a trophy perspective but also in terms of revenue and financial fair play.

Manchester United have just over a week left before they face Tottenham Hotspur in the biggest match of their season. The two clubs have recorded embarrassing Premier League campaigns, but one of them will qualify for the Champions League when they win the Europa League final.

It is still difficult to make a strong case for either side in what is set to be a fascinating final, as both teams possess individual stars who could decide the match on their own. Tottenham might be lower than United in the Premier League but they have won all three previous meetings between the clubs already this season.

The French defender looked in discomfort as he headed straight down the Old Trafford tunnel, though he was spotted walking unaided when he left the stadium at full-time.

A further update on Yoro is expected in the coming days, though after the match Ruben Amorim provided an encouraging update on the teenage centre-back. "We have to assess Leny in a better way tomorrow. He felt something, but it could be a small thing."

There was a similar injury scare for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon as Dejan Kulusevski was forced off during their home defeat to Crystal Palace. The Swedish forward took a heavy knock after just 15 minutes and although he tried to continue in the match, he was eventually replaced by Mikey Moore.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the home defeat, Ange Postecoglou provided a brief update on the forward. "He should be OK. I'm disappointed, it's clear we're not anywhere near the level we need to be. We're making changes and the guys are getting opportunities." Kulusevski has contributed 10 goals and 11 assists in 50 appearances for Tottenham this season and could have a key role to play in their pursuit of Europa League glory.
