Manchester United are back in action when they travel to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

United and Spurs both head into the match as bottom-half sides and will be looking for an important win to lift spirits and ease any suggestions of a relegation battle.

Ruben Amorim is expected to freshen his side up for the trip to North London, with Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee both in contention to start after their impressive cameos from the bench against Leicester last time out.

United will also have to find a replacement for Lisandro Martinez after he underwent surgery on a serious injury this week, while January addition Patrick Dorgu could be handed his first start at left wing-back. Here is how we think United should line up at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium:

Manchester United head down to London this weekend as they prepare for their latest Premier League match. They face an away trip to Tottenham Hotspur as they look to build some momentum and rise up the table.

The Red Devils are sat in 13th place in the table after a disappointing season so far. The fixtures are starting to come thick and fast as they search for some more consistency.

Ruben Amorim’s side won 2-1 at home to fellow top flight outfit Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup last time out. Defender Harry Maguire scored a last-gasp winner at Old Trafford against his former club.

Gary Neville and Roy Keane in Manchester United prediction

On the latest episode of The Overlap, Gary Neville has predicted a 2-1 win for United against Spurs. Meanwhile, Roy Keane believes his former team will run out 3-1 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Red Devils decided against having a busy January transfer window and will wait until the summer to start making any drastic changes to their ranks. The rest of this term is about getting their confidence back and potentially winning a trophy or two if they can.

Amorim was picked as their replacement for Erik ten Hag earlier this winter and it has been a mixed start for the Portuguese head coach in England. He was appointed by his current club after catching the eye at Sporting Lisbon.

The past few years have been tough for United and they will hope he can steady the ship. They have spent too much money on players who just haven’t performed and are crying out for a bit of stability.

United’s upcoming opponents Spurs have been knocked out of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup recently. Their injury issues under Ange Postecoglou have been well documented and he is under pressure to start getting results.

What now for Manchester United

Everyone of a United persuasion will want to see a solid performance against Spurs first and foremost. There have been too many games where they haven’t been good enough.

Speaking after their victory over Leicester, Amorim said: “We have to believe it until the end but this has nothing to do with the time of Fergie. I think we have to do so much better, with the ball, without the ball. We didn't have any energy in the beginning, especially in the first half. Then in the second half, we played a little bit better with a little bit more speed and winning second balls. Then we managed to turn things around and it was a good result but not a good performance."

He added: “I cannot focus just on saving the season with the momentum of the [FA] Cup. That's not the way I see football, it's not the way I see Manchester United. It's everything, it's the performance, it's the result. I'm not thinking about the end of the season now, because the final is at the end of the season. I don't care about that, I care about the moment.

"The moment is clearly not good enough. It's a good result. We move forward to the next stage. We have a week to prepare [for our next league game] but today was not a good day."

Two under-achieving heavyweights will lock horns this weekend as Manchester United make the trip down to London to take on an out-of-form Tottenham Hotspur side.

Both teams did enough to secure a place in the Europa League last term, but face the prospect of no football on the continent next season if they cannot improve their domestic performances. Managerial scrutiny and injuries have dominated the headlines of both clubs in recent weeks, with Lisandro Martinez’s recent injury against Crystal Palace and Luke Shaw’s latest setback creating new selection headaches for Ruben Amorim.

While a defiant Ange Postecogolou has publicly defended his team against scrutiny amid an avalanche of injury concerns, he told reporters: "You cannot judge this group of players on what has happened. They have given everything. Two 18-year-olds, a 17-year-old, a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old goalkeeper. It cannot be that people think that is an excuse."

United pulled the trigger on Erik ten Hag earlier in the season and time is running out for Postecoglou to get fans back on side. “I think this is the real time now we start to judge Ange Postecoglou. He's had all the excuses, the mitigating factors around the injuries. We've now got players back, we've now got full weeks of training, we can rest players, we can rotate,” said National World’s James Trembath.

He added: “Manchester United ahead, a big test. But I want to see the real Spurs turn up now and if not, I think ultimately it will cost Postecoglou his job.” Ahead of a big game for both clubs we take a look at the injury situation from Spurs and United.

Spurs injury news

Ange Postecoglou has had to navigate his way through an unprecedented injury crisis, but a number of high-profile names such as midfielder James Maddison and defender Micky van de Ven are both thought to be closing in on a return amid late fitness tests. Left-back Destiny Udogie and first-choice shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario could also return to the fray this weekend along with attacking trio Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert.

In a much-needed positive update from a Lillywhite’s perspective, Postecogolou told reporters: They are all kind of around the same time - around 10 days. We are talking about Vicario, (Brennan) Johnson, Destiny (Udogie), Wilson (Odobert), and Timo (Werner).

However, as Postecoglou makes crucial decisions over how much game time to give a number of returning stars, he also faces up to the reality of further setbacks in the form striker Richarlison, who picked up a fresh knock at the start of February. Elsewhere, striker Dominic Solanke and defender Christian Romero are aiming to return at the end of the month - but the same cannot be said about centre-back Radu Dragusin after he sustained a dreaded ACL injury.

Man Utd injury news

Star defender Lisandro Martinez has sustained an ACL injury which is almost certain to keep him out the remainder of the season. Ruben Amorim explained: “Licha is a difficult situation. He's going to be out for a while. We don't know the extent of the injury, but it's an injury that is going to take time.”

Joining him on the sidelines is Luke Shaw, whose recent setback could now leave him out until April, according to Premier Injuries. Amorim added: “Luke, just a little bit, one small issue in a different area from the last injury, so we'll try to be careful.”

Fellow Euro 2020 finalist Mason Mount, a former Chelsea hero, has also had a nightmare with injuries at Old Trafford. A timeline on his return has not yet been determined after his thigh injury in December. Meanwhile, Altay Bayindir, who resisted the chance to play first team football back in Turkey, is set to miss out with a slight knock along with experienced defender Jonny Evans, who has a lower back problem.

Manchester United have included young goalkeepers Elyh Harrison and William Murdock in first-team training ahead of their trip to face Tottenham in the Premier League this weekend.

United are back in action when they travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with head coach Ruben Amorim faced with a bizarre injury crisis. Andre Onana kept his place in goal for the FA Cup fourth round win over Leicester City last Friday night, but senior duo Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton both missed the match due to injury.

It meant academy goalkeeper Hubert Graczyk was named on the substitutes bench for the very first time since he joined from Arsenal last year. The 21-year-old previously featured in pre-match warm-ups against Arsenal and Southampton before he finally made a matchday squad for the first time.

Graczyk is well-regarded in the academy set-up but he is effectively the seventh-choice goalkeeper at senior level and only featured due to a bizarre injury crisis. Bayindir and Heaton were both injured, while fourth-choice Radek Vitek is currently on loan at FC Blau-Weiß Linz.

Fifth-choice Elyh Harrison was cup-tied for the clash from his loan spell with Chester FC earlier in the season and sixth-choice Dermot Mee was also ruled out due to injury. It saw seventh-choice Graczyk named on the bench, with eighth-choice Murdock involved in the pre-match warm-up. Murdock, 17, joined United's academy in 2023 and has been a regular for the Under-18s this season. The teenager has started twice in the FA Youth Cup and will hope to feature again when they host Chelsea in the competition on Wednesday night.

United will hope to have either Bayindir or Heaton available for the weekend trip to face Tottenham, with Harrison likely to be named as part of their travelling squad. Although he is cup-tied for the remainder of the FA Cup campaign, there are no issues with him being named in a Premier League squad.

Ruben Amorim could unleash his new strongest Manchester United line up when they travel to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this weekend.

United defeated Leicester last week to secure a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup and could make a few changes to their side for the trip to North London on Sunday afternoon.

Patrick Dorgu could be handed a first start in his favoured left wing-back role, while Matthijs de Ligt could return to the side at centre-back. There could be another two changes to the line up with Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee both pushing to start after they impressed from the bench last time out.

It means Amorim could name the strongest line up at his disposal, though United will still be without star defender Lisandro Martinez, who is set to miss the remainder of the season. Here is how United could line up:

Tottenham Hotspur are set for a triple fitness boost ahead of their home clash with Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend.

United are back in action when they travel to North London on Sunday afternoon and will hope for revenge against a side who have already beaten them twice this season. Spurs know a huge improvement is required from recent weeks after they crashed out of two cup competitions in the space of just four days with away defeats to Liverpool in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup and to Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round.

The pressure is building on Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou ahead of the match, but he is reportedly set to be boosted by a timely triple fitness boost for the visit of United. Here is the latest team news ahead of the clash:

Tottenham set for triple boost

Tottenham are hopeful Destiny Udogie, James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario will all be available for their home match against United this weekend. The Times claim the injured trio are all expected to return to training this week and it is hoped they could all be in contention to feature at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Postecoglou has given two days off to all the players who started in the FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend and hopes the lighter schedule over the next fortnight can help improve performances.

“The ones who have been playing, we’ve got to give them some time off. We’ve got the early part of the week and we’ll give them some time off,” the Tottenham manager said. “The boys who are coming back, we’ll get the opportunity to give them a whole week of training which is great. So come Tuesday we should have three or four who have been missing. We can give them a full week of training instead of a couple of sessions before throwing them in.”

Manchester United are understood to be interested in making a statement move for former Tottenham Hotspur hero Harry Kane in the summer transfer window after being made aware of an intriguing release clause in the Bayern Munich forward’s contract at the Allianz Arena.

The Red Devils are desperate to sign a centre forward that can help them regain their place among the Premier League’s elite after a lacklustre start to the season which has seen centre forward duo Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee register a measly combined total of just four league goals between them this season.

United had been heavily linked with Matheus Cunha during the January transfer window, but were reluctant to make an offer amid Wolves' reported £70m price tag on the Brazilian, who has since signed a new deal.

The Old Trafford club had also been linked with a move for Kane’s less experienced Bayern Munich team-mate Mathys Tel, who is tipped to one day become one of France’s finest talents, but it was ultimately Tottenham who won the race to sign the teenager on loan in a dramatic U-turn which occurred just days after the youngster had seemingly snubbed a move to the capital.

Harry Kane’s journey so far

Harry Kane broke into the Tottenham Hotspur team at the end of the 2013/14 season under Tim Sherwood after mixed loan spells at the likes of Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City. He burst on to the scene in the 2014/15 season with 21 goals in 34 Premier League games and has since remained one of the most feared strikers in European football.

Overall, Kane scored a staggering 280 goals in 435 games for the Lillywhites across all competitions - making him the club’s all-time leading goalscorer ahead of the likes of Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Smith, Heung Min Son and Jermaine Defoe. He also showcased his creative ability with 61 assists which is the fourth most of any Spurs player in history. His tally of 213 Premier League goals leaves him just 47 short of the competition's all-time record goalscorer Alan Shearer with 260.

The 31-year-old, who is also England’s all-time leading goalscorer, helped Spurs reach a Champions League final and two League Cup finals while regularly securing European qualification. However, after failing to secure any form of silverware in North London, he departed for pastures new in a £100m move to Bayern Munich. The England captain is yet to win silverware in Germany, but has impressed with a staggering 70 goals and 22 assists in 72 matches across all competitions.

Harry Kane release clause revealed

TBR Football understands that Ruben Amorim’s team are one of the frontrunners to bring Harry Kane back to England this summer in a cut-price deal. Bild reporter Christian Falk claims that Kane has a release clause of £54m inserted into his Bayern Munich contract which comes into effect this summer.

Kane remains under contract with Bayern until 2027, but the outlet suggests the striker could look for an emotional return to English football in the near future to have a crack at beating Shearer’s long-standing record.

Manchester United have reportedly made Bayern aware of their interest while former club Spurs could also target a dream reunion with their fan favourite. Elsewhere, we take a look at how the Red Devils’ could line-up at the start of the 2025/26 season as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the recruitment team brace themselves for a busy summer.

Manchester United have been working on deals on deadline day but have remained realistic in their expectations of what they can achieve in the final hours of the window.

United lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon as the visitors scored twice in the second half to condemn the Red Devils to their fourth home defeat in 11 Premier League games. Ruben Amorim’s need for a striker was highlighted as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were both dropped from the starting line-up.

“This window is always really, really difficult and we don't want to make the mistakes of the past,” warned head coach Ruben Amorim last week. “We have to also understand the situation of the club. A lot of things are changing so we have to be careful in this type of window. You guys know the situation of the club at the moment, so it's nothing new.”

Tel move takes major twist

One player United have pursued is Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel. The 19-year-old wants to leave the Bundesliga giants due to a lack of game-time and his preference has been to move to Old Trafford. According to talkSPORT, the Red Devils have had two loan offers rebuffed as Bayern would prefer a permanent deal

Arsenal and Tottenham were also interested in the player. Spurs had agreed a £50.2m with Bayern for Tel last week, with Daniel Levy travelling to Germany aiming to sew up an agreement. However, Tel rejected a move to North London with reports on Monday morning claiming Arsenal were holding talks with Bayern over the player.

Now in major twist, Tel is on his way to Spurs after a change of heart. That is according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg who claims the Frenchman now wants to join Tottenham in a blow to United and Arsenal. Earlier on Monday, Tel and his agent were spotted on a private jet amid speculation of where he was heading.

Tottenham have already agreed deal with Bayern

Last week, L’Equipe claimed Bayern had agreed a deal worth €60 million (£50.2m) to sell Tel to Tottenham. At the time, it was claimed by the Daily Mail that Tel was waiting to see if any of the other interested clubs would make a move for him before committing to Spurs.

In another twist, despite a permanent deal being previously agreed, Fabrizio Romano reports that Tel’s move to North London is now a loan with no option to buy. United would have liked to sell Marcus Rashford to help raise funds for a new attacker but the forward has agreed a loan move to Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

Speaking about Rashford’s departure, Amorim said on Sunday before the move was confirmed: “When you loan a player, and I don’t know, I think it’s not official, when you loan a player, you expect him to play and to improve, so it’s nothing humiliating there. I understand the question but I’m just focused on my players, that’s all. So when the window closes, I will be really focused on just our team and to improve our team."

Manchester United are set for a busy end to the transfer window, with the deadline on Monday approaching fast.

The Red Devils have made a fresh signing so far in the form of left-back Patrick Dorgu, from Serie A side Lecce. His move to Manchester is set to be finalised over the weekend but Ruben Amorim will still be keen to strengthen in attacking areas before the deadline.

United won 2-0 against Romanian side FCSB in their last game in the Europa League, booking themselves a place in the round of 16 of the competition - and avoiding a play-off spot. They will face either AZ Alkmaar, Midtjylland, Real Sociedad, or Galatasaray in the next round.

Amorim will be hopeful that United can further strengthen their squad before Monday, although they may have to sell a £70m attacker in order to comply with PSR rules.

Man United could make late swoop for Spurs target

United have been linked this month to Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel, who is set to leave the Bundesliga side due to his lack of game time under Vincent Kompany.

Tel has been competing for minutes on the pitch with Harry Kane, meaning that he has not got the game time that he would’ve liked this season.

United are reportedly keen on making a late January swoop for the Frenchman, although he looks like he could be on the way to London instead. According to Florian Plettenberg on X, United have contacted Bayern regarding a loan deal for Tel, but need to buy some time as they will need a departure to comply with PSR.

Tottenham Hotspur are also in the race to sign Tel, as reports have suggested that Spurs have agreed a £50.2m fee with Bayern for the 19-year-old after it was claimed that the Bayern striker had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

United may now have to make a late move for the Frenchman, as they aim to land an attacker that can add much-needed pace, and goals to Amorim’s attack.

United may have to sell Garnacho to fund Tel transfer

Alejandro Garnacho has been linked with a move away this month, as United aim to make ‘pure profit’ on him, to boost their position in regards to PSR. The winger has been linked to Serie A side Napoli and Premier League rivals Chelsea with a move still possible by the end of the window.

According to The Boot Room, United want in excess of £70m from Chelsea if they were to sign Garnacho, and it is believed that the Blues could be likely to meet that price late in the January window.

The report says that United are refusing to rule out a sale of Garnacho to Chelsea, as it would mean that they would be free to make a new attacker signing such as Tel, should he not go to Tottenham before United can make a move.

Manchester United are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Brighton and Hove Albion. The Red Devils are currently sat in 12th place in the Premier League table.

Ruben Amorim’s side beat Southampton 3-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday night. Amad Diallo scored a hat-trick against the Saints.

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho eyed by Chelsea

United winger Alejandro Garnacho is a player of ‘interest’ to Chelsea this winter along with Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens, according to The Mirror. The Red Devils have a big decision to make regarding the future of the 20-year-old and he has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, as per Football Transfers.

Garnacho, who is 20-years-old, has been in and out of the team since Amorim took over. It remains to be seen whether he is a player firmly in his manager’s long-term plans.

The youngster was on the books at Getafe and Atletico Madrid before moving to England in 2020. He has since broken into the first-team.

He has made 117 appearances in all competitions for his current club in all competitions and has scored 23 goals, eight of which have come in this campaign. His contract expires in 2028.

After penning his last extension in 2023, he said: “When I joined this incredible club, I dreamt of achieving my debut, playing at Old Trafford, scoring my first goal and winning trophies with this badge on my chest.

“I feel very proud and emotional to have experienced these moments already, together with my family who have supported me every step of the way.

“We are all humbled to have this chance to continue our journey at Manchester United and I have already begun to work on achieving the next set of targets and ambitions. “The manager and his coaching staff have helped me to improve in every way, and with their support, I am developing each day to help the team to be successful.

“I am relishing the future and can’t wait to create more special memories with this group, in front of our amazing supporters.”

What next for Manchester United?

United will be looking to build some momentum now after beating Southampton. They are still too far down the table by their standards.

Speaking after their victory over the Saints, Amorim said: "It was not a great match from our side. We had some problems, especially with balls between the lines, and did not have the connections we're supposed to have in the game. It was, more or less, system versus system with a lot of duels. The speed from [Kamaldeen] Sulemana, who was really hard to catch, and they created some chances.

“We improved in the second half and, in the final 30 minutes, I felt Southampton were very tired, with the pressure we created. They lost some strength because they were going man-to-man during the pressure. They lose some power and the most important thing in this moment is to win and we did it. I had a feeling it was going to be hard but, in the end, I think we deserved the win."
