Description

Manchester City pulled off a coup in the January transfer window by signing Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi. City signed the pair from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace to fill an obvious hole in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Both players have already made their presence felt since arriving at City. Semenyo has scored three goals in four matches, and although Guehi only made one appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side last weekend against Wolves, his impact was clear to see. Today, Manchester City take on Tottenham in a massive Premier League fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Today’s match is the exact setting that Semenyo and Guehi seem made for.

Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo will have big roles to play for Manchester City against Tottenham.

Today’s match is massive for Pep Guardiola’s side. It is a crucial Premier League fixture at a venue that City have struggled at, against a team that for whatever reason, despite their inconsistent form, always get up for the occasion when they play Manchester City. We saw that earlier this season when Tottenham picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over City at the Etihad in August.

Heading into today’s match, Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo loom as key players for City. It is expected that Guehi will return to the starting lineup and start as the left-sided centre-back against Tottenham. His leadership, poise, and experience will be important to Pep Guardiola’s side. Guehi started alongside Abdukodir Khusanov last weekend against Wolves, and that looks to be the centre-back pairing that Guardiola will utilize today. Guehi’s presence did seem to lift Abdukodir Khusanov last weekend, and it could do so again today. Also, Tottenham do pack a physical punch in the final third with Dominic Solanke back fit, and Guehi and Khusanov will have a key role to play in keeping Solanke quiet today.

Jeremy Doku will miss today’s match due to injury. My expectation is that Antoine Semenyo will start in his place on the left wing. Semenyo could be the ideal player, alongside Erling Haaland, to break open Tottenham’s defence. The Ghana international is a powerhouse with his speed, and tireless work rate. His ability to get in behind the Spurs defence and finish any chances created for him could be a deciding factor in today’s match. City will need to take their chances today to prosper and Semenyo looms as a key player in a massive match today.

Guehi and Semenyo seem to be made for matches like today’s.

Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo know what the Premier League is all about. Before signing for Manchester City, they were both proven Premier League players. There is a strong argument to be made that they were the best players in the league playing outside of a big club. They have the experience and knowledge of what big games in the Premier League feel like. They both do seem to be made for occasions like today. Manchester City simply have to pick up three points against Spurs, and the pressure of the occasion could bring out the best in Guehi and Semenyo.

Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi will have vital roles to play for Manchester City today against Tottenham. They loom as players who could be critical in City picking up three points today for vastly different reasons. The pair also look to be made for occasions such as today’s, so it will be fascinating to see how Semenyo and Guehi perform at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium later today.

Manchester City vs Tottenham: Latest City injury news and predicted City starting eleven - Esteemed Kompany
Description

Manchester City take on Tottenham Hotspur today at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a crucial Premier League fixture. Pep Guardiola’s side will be eager to pick up three points to move back within four points of Premier League leaders Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s side sits seven points clear of City after their win over Leeds United yesterday. City will take on a Tottenham side that has struggled in the Premier League this season. Thomas Frank’s side has flattered to deceive in terms of their performance in the league. But they did beat City earlier this season, so a tough test awaits Pep Guardiola’s side.

Here is the latest City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven ahead of today’s match.

Manchester City injury and team news.

There are a host of players who are unavailable for today’s match due to injury for Manchester City. Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, John Stones, Mateo Kovacic, Jeremy Doku and Savinho are all ruled out of today’s match. Pep Lijnders revealed that Doku is set to be ruled out for between two-three weeks due to the calf injury he sustained in City’s win over Galatasaray. Lijnders also revealed that Ruben Dias is set to return to training on Monday. Today’s match comes too soon for Manchester City’s defensive leader but his return from a hamstring injury is imminent.

Manchester City will be boosted by the returns of Rodri, Marc Guehi, and Antoine Semenyo. Rodri missed Manchester City’s win over Galatasaray due to suspension, but he is available for today’s pivotal match. Guehi and Semenyo were both ineligible to play in the Champions League, but both return today in a huge boost for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Predicted City starting eleven.

Clarity could be coming to the wing situation at Manchester City

Clarity could be coming to the wing situation at Manchester City - Esteemed Kompany
Description

The one move that could define the final days of the transfer window for Manchester City is Tottenham’s interest in Savinho. It is unlikely that City would sell the Brazilian international if they cannot find a replacement. Tottenham must also satisfy Manchester City’s demands to sell Savinho. Now, a new report has explained how the situation surrounding Savinho is unfolding. It would appear that Manchester City will only sell Savinho if they can sign an adequate replacement. That replacement looms as Real Madrid winger Rodrygo. Perhaps clarity is coming on the wing situation at City.

Manchester City will reportedly only sell Savinho if they can bring in a replacement.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation surrounding Tottenham’s move for Savinho. Romano explained: “Tottenham will go over €70 million (£60.6 million), even today, Tottenham told Manchester City that they are prepared to go over €70 million. Now, the deal completely depends on Manchester City being able to find a replacement or not. So, it’s Manchester City who have to say, ‘okay, we sell Savio because we find a replacement or not, we keep Savinho.”

Fabrizio Romano further explained that Manchester City has identified Rodrygo as the player they see as the replacement for Savinho. But signing Rodrygo from Real Madrid will be no easy task. Romano said: “Remember, the name wanted by Pep Guardiola is Rodrygo, but it’s not an easy deal. It’s everything to build in this deal. The Real Madrid valuation, €100 million minimum, the contract of Rodrygo, a really big salary, way more than Savinho, the love of Rodrygo for Real Madrid, starting also last night [against Real Oviedo] with Xabi Alonso sending a message to the player. So, we have to see what happens there with Rodrygo. So, for sure, Tottenham will go back for Savinho. It’s not over that story, the deal is absolutely on.”

Savinho’s move now depends on Manchester City’s efforts to sign a replacement.

Based on Fabrizio Romano’s new update, Savinho’s potential move to Tottenham hinges on Manchester City finding a replacement for him. Whether or not that is Rodrygo or another player, Rodrygo would add more quality to Manchester City’s attack. He is a proven performer at the highest level, and that’s an attribute that Pep Guardiola’s squad needs. Rodrygo can also play in various roles up front, so that versatility, coupled with his dribbling ability and eye for goal, would make him a quality signing for Manchester City. Rodrygo is also adept at pressing Real Madrid’s opponents out of possession, so it is easy to see why City would see him as the ideal replacement for Savinho.

It now appears that clarity is coming to the wing situation in Pep Guardiola’s squad. If City can find a replacement for Savinho, he will likely be sold to Tottenham. If that doesn’t occur, the Brazilian winger will remain a member of Pep Guardiola’s squad. That is seemingly the state of play heading into an important week for Manchester City.

One move could shape the entire week for Manchester City

One move could shape the entire week for Manchester City - Esteemed Kompany
Description

The final days of the summer transfer window do seem like they will be busy for Manchester City. There are several players whose futures at the club remain in limbo. But one move in particular could shape the entire week for City. That is Savinho’s potential move to Tottenham. What happens regarding the Brazilian winger’s future will shape how busy City are to close out the transfer window.

Tottenham is confident of signing Savinho from Manchester City.

Dean Jones has reported for TeamTalk that Tottenham is confident of signing Savinho from Manchester City. Furthermore, Jones reports that Tottenham has made fresh contact with City over signing the Brazilian international. Jones also reports that Savinho is convinced that signing for Thomas Frank’s side will be a good move for his career. It is also reported by Jones that Manchester City is surprised by how eager Savinho is to complete a move to Spurs. Lastly, Dean Jones reports that the deal is a complicated one to complete. But the agents of Savinho have been working hard to secure a move for the exciting young winger.

If Savinho leaves City, they simply must sign another attacking player.

If Savinho were to leave Manchester City before the transfer window closes, they would have to replace him. It is hard to imagine City letting Savinho leave without adding another attacking player. Whether that player is Real Madrid winger Rodrygo or somebody else. Last summer, City sold Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid but didn’t replace him. That’s saw them sign Omar Marmoush in January as they needed to fill an obvious gap in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Hugo Viana will not want to make a similar mistake this summer.

Savinho’s future is one story to monitor this week. If the Brazilian winger is sold to Tottenham that move has the potential to shape the final days of the transfer window for Manchester City. There are several storylines to watch out for this week from a City point of view, but the Savinho situation could be the most significant story of the entire week.

Manchester City 0 Tottenham 2: Match report as City slump to a familiar defeat against Spurs - Esteemed Kompany
Description

Manchester City 0

Tottenham 2 (Brennan Johnson 35′, Joao Palhinha 45+3′)

Manchester City went down a 2-nil defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium today. Thomas Frank’s side deserved their victory for the way they were so well organised tactically and seized upon Manchester City’s defensive errors when they arose. Pep Guardiola’s side looked like a team that had barely played together, and they played that way today. The performance and result showed that Manchester City’s rebuild will take time after last weekend’s impressive win over Wolves at Molineux.

When the starting lineups were announced, James Trafford started in goal over Ederson. Rayan Cherki started his first Premier League game, replacing Bernardo Silva in the starting lineup, and Omar Marmoush started in place of Jeremy Doku on the left wing. There were also home debuts for Rayan Ait-Nouri and Tijjani Reijnders. Pep Guardiola picked an attacking starting eleven, and it was of great interest ahead of kick-off how the Manchester City lineup would perform against Thomas Frank’s side.

Rodri and Phil Foden returned to the Manchester City matchday squad for today’s match. They both started on the bench as they continue to work their way back to full fitness.

First half

Manchester City began the game brightly in the opening five minutes. But the sum of their early work was an intercepted through ball on the halfway line from Erling Haaland, which would have set Omar Marmoush free in the opening minute, and Rayan Cherki failed to pick out Erling Haaland on the edge of the Spurs penalty area a minute later. Tottenham had an early set-piece which came to nothing in the game’s opening five minutes.

Erling Haaland fouled Richarlison on the edge of Manchester City’s penalty area in the 7th minute. Pedro Porro fired the subsequent free kick from 30 yards out on the left of Manchester City’s penalty area into the wall. Porro fired the subsequent rebound wide. A defensive mix-up from Tottenham played in Omar Marmoush from the resulting goal kick. Omar Marmoush beat Vicario in the Tottenham goal, but his shot went agonisingly across the face of goal rather than into the back of the net.

Omar Marmoush was denied in the 18th minute by Vicario after he hit a powerful strike on goal from the edge of the Spurs area. Tottenham had made a bright start to the game, but Pep Guardiola’s side were beginning to warm into the game.

Nathan Ake replaced Rayan Ait-Nouri in the 20th minute. The Algerian international appeared to pick up a foot injury after a heavy challenge earlier in the game.

Vicario denied Omar Marmoush once again in the 28th minute. A surging run from Erling Haaland saw the Norwegian international play in Omar Marmoush. But the Egyptian striker saw his powerful shot saved by the oncoming and outstretched Vicario to keep the score at nil-all.

Brennan Johnson gives Tottenham the lead.

Tottenham would take the lead in the 35th minute. Richarlison broke through Manchester City’s high defensive line and offside trap and was further aided by a slip from John Stones. The Brazilian international drove down the right wing and played in a ball to Brennan Johnson to fire home past James Trafford to give Tottenham the lead. In truth, Thomas Frank’s side deserved their lead, given how organised they had been defensively and when in possession. Pep Guardiola’s side looked flat and needed to lift their level of performance.

A terrible error from James Trafford sees Joao Palhinha make it 2-nil.

Tottenham would double their lead in the third minute of first-half stoppage time. A terrible pass from James Trafford played Nico into all sorts of trouble on his own penalty spot. The Spanish midfielder was easily dispossessed, and the rebound fell to Richarlison. Trafford made a save from the Brazilian, but the rebound fell to Joao Palhinha, who fired in to give Spurs a 2-nil lead. It was a comedy of errors at the back, and James Trafford got a tough introduction to playing at the highest level.

Erling Haaland fired a header over the bar in the final minute of first-half stoppage time. A nice cross from Rayan Cherki picked out Manchester City’s number nine. But he headed over the bar, and his effort summed up Manchester City’s first-half performance.

Errors from Manchester City cost Pep Guardiola’s side dearly. John Stones’ slip released Richarlison to set up Spurs’ opener. James Trafford’s error cost his team just as much for Tottenham’s second goal.

Second half

Pep Guardiola’s side needed a significant response after a poor first-half performance. They had to minimise their mistakes and take their chances. That was their only way back into the game as the second half began.

There was more intensity to Manchester City’s play in the early stages of the second half. They did force an error from Tottenham at the back, but Erling Haaland’s pass was too far in front of Rayan Cherki on the edge of the Spurs six-yard box, and the chance was gone in the 52nd minute. A minute later, Jeremy Doku and Bernardo Silva replaced Omar Marmoush and Rayan Cherki, who hadn’t had the best games.

Tottenham went up a gear after Manchester City’s bright start to the second half. They had a spell of possession and had several half-chances to make it 3-nil. Thomas Frank’s side were also pressing Pep Guardiola’s side hard at the back, and it was clear that Spurs’ press had taken away any of Manchester City’s confidence on the ball when playing out from the back.

Rico Lewis fired an effort well over from outside the area in the 70th minute after a succession of Manchester City corners. But that effort pretty well summed up what City were creating against a stubborn Tottenham defence.

Rodri and Phil Foden came on for Nico and Oscar Bobb in the 75th minute. A minute later, Rodri headed a powerful effort straight at Vicario from a corner. Tellingly, it was Manchester City’s first shot on target of the second half.

In the 92nd minute, James Trafford made a fine double save to deny Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert. The chance came after a misplaced header in midfield from Rodri. That would be the last meaningful action of the game as Tottenham picked a 2-nil victory that they thoroughly deserved.

Final thoughts.

Today’s result illustrated that Manchester City’s new-look squad will take time to gel together. Tottenham came to the Etihad with a plan, and they stuck to it to pick up a well-deserved victory. From a Manchester City point of view, the performance was poor and Pep Guardiola’s side could never get going.

Errors from John Stones and James Trafford proved costly for Manchester City today. Stones’ defensive slip allowed Richarlison the space he needed to set up Brennan Johnson to open the scoring. James Trafford’s poor pass gave Spurs their second goal in a harsh lesson for the young goalkeeper. But Tottenham suffocated Pep Guardiola’s side and deserved their victory. Tottenham’s high press also caused Manchester City issues, and showed what City miss when Ederson isn’t included goal.

All told, it was a disappointing day for Manchester City. Tottenham deserved their victory but it is clear to see that City’s rebuild remains a work in progress.

Manchester City and Tottenham have confirmed their starting lineups ahead of City’s first home game of the 25/26 season at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s side began the new Premier League season strongly with an emphatic 4-nil win over Wolves. Thomas Frank’s side beat Burnley 3-nil last weekend to start the new season in impressive fashion.

Pep Guardiola informed the media yesterday that Rodri, Phil Foden, and Ederson are all available for today’s match. Rodri and Foden weren’t deemed fit enough to be included in Manchester City’s matchday squad at Molineux. Ederson missed last weekend’s match due to illness. Manchester City began the 25/26 Premier League season with a 4-nil win over Wolves at Molineux. The result came after a promising performance from Pep Guardiola’s side. This weekend will see City take on Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium. It will be Manchester City’s first home game of the new season. Ahead of the game, there has been good news on the injury front for Manchester City ahead of a tough fixture at home against Thomas Frank’s side.

Josko Gvardiol and Ederson have trained ahead of this weekend’s match.

Last weekend saw Savinho, Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol miss out on Manchester City’s win over Wolves due to injury. Ederson, Phil Foden and Rodri weren’t selected in the City matchday squad. Ahead of this weekend’s match against Spurs, Ederson and Josko Gvardiol have trained, which indicates that the pair should be available for Manchester City’s opening home fixture of the season.

In images shared on mancity.com, Ederson has been pictured training. The Brazilian international should be available for selection for this weekend’s match. CityXtra has also reported that Josko Gvardiol has resumed training after his injury issues. That is good news for Manchester City ahead of this weekend’s match.

An update on the condition of the Manchester City squad is expected later today.

Pep Guardiola will face the media later today for his pre-game press conference. It is expected that Guardiola will provide an update on the condition of his squad. Rodri and Phil Foden travelled with the City squad last weekend but weren’t selected. Savinho’s availability for the match against Tottenham is currently unknown. The Brazilian international is ruled out due to injury. Mateo Kovacic is out until October due to an Achilles injury. It would seem that Josko Gvardiol and Ederson will be available for the match.

It is good news to learn that Josko Gvardiol and Ederson have returned to training. Whether or not each player starts the match against Tottenham won’t be known until the starting lineups are announced ahead of kick-off off.

It is no secret that Tottenham are keen to sign Savinho from Manchester City. The Brazilian international missed Manchester City’s first game of the Premier League season yesterday due to injury. But doubts persist over his future at Manchester City. It is believed that Savinho is eager to move to Tottenham. Another report indicates that City has identified Rodrygo as their primary target to replace Savinho if he leaves. It looks like it could be one Brazilian winger out at City and another one in.

Manchester City have their eyes on Brazilian international Rodrygo to replace Savinho.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Savinho is keen on a move to Tottenham. Furthermore, Romano reports that Tottenham plans to submit a new offer for Savinho. It is also reported that Manchester City are considering keeping Savinho at the club. But if Tottenham produce a suitable offer, that stance could change.

In a separate report, Fabrizio Romano adds that Manchester City have identified Rodrygo as the replacement for Savinho if he leaves the club. Furthermore, Romano reports that City have ruled out moves for AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche and RB Leipzig’s versatile attacking midfielder Xavi Simons.

Manchester City’s plan for Savinho’s potential departure is now clear.

Based on Fabrizio Romano’s reports, Manchester City’s plan if Savinho leaves the club is clear. They will move for Rodrygo if Spurs meet City’s asking price for Savinho. It is now up to Tottenham to return with an improved bid for the Brazilian international. The expectation is that they will. From there, Manchester City may move to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid.

As a player, Rodrygo isn’t a like-for-like replacement for Savinho. Savinho is a more direct dribbler than Rodrygo. But Rodrygo offers more versatility to play in multiple roles than Savinho. At Real Madrid, Rodrygo has played on the left and right wing and through the middle. Savinho looks to be a right winger in Pep Guardiola’s squad. However, he can play on the left. But Rodrygo has a habit of stepping up in big moments. Savinho may do, but it has yet to be displayed. There isn’t a statistic that measures that particular trait. It would be interesting to see how Rodrygo would fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad if City did sign him.

It is clear that if Savinho leaves Manchester City, they will move for Rodrygo to replace him, based on Fabrizio Romano’s new reports. It could be one Brazilian international out and one in if Tottenham do meet Manchester City’s demands to sell Savinho. How the story unfolds from here depends entirely on what happens with Savinho’s future.

Manchester City reportedly reject an offer for Savinho from Tottenham but the story isn’t over - Esteemed Kompany
Description

The future of Savinho is one story that has risen to prominence this week. It does seem that it is highly likely that he will leave Manchester City for Tottenham this summer. The caveat is that Spurs must meet Manchester City’s asking price before City will sanction the sale of the Brazilian international.

Jack Gaughan has previously reported that City would only contemplate selling Savinho for a transfer fee of over £50 million. Now it has been reported that Manchester City have rejected an offer of €70 million (£60.2 million) for Savinho. But it is also reported that Spurs will return with an improved offer for the Manchester City winger.

Manchester City have reportedly rejected a substantial offer from Tottenham for Savinho.

Por Cahê Mota has reported for Globo that Manchester City has rejected an offer of €70 million (£60.2 million) for Savinho. Furthermore, the Globo report states that Tottenham are set to return with an improved offer for Savinho. The Globo report also states that Savinho’s representatives have arrived in England to facilitate negotiations between the two clubs. Lastly, the Globo report adds that there is a good feeling between the involved parties in the current negotiations surrounding Savinho.

If Tottenham return with an improved offer, it would seem that Savinho will leave City.

It seems negotiations between City and Tottenham over a move for Savinho are progressing. The reported €70 million (£60.2 million) offer from Spurs for the Brazilian international is a sizable offer. But as Globo reports, City are holding out for more. But it does seem to be a matter of time before Tottenham return with an offer that will meet City’s demands. Whether or not City accept that offer remains to be seen.

But the fact that Savinho’s representatives are reportedly involved in negotiations suggests that a deal is close. The fact that negotiations between the two clubs are set to continue also indicates that a deal could be near. What happens next depends on what Tottenham’s next offer to Manchester City is. But reading between the lines it would be a surprise if Savinho was a City player come the time the transfer window closes.

Description

One player whose future at Manchester City is currently uncertain is Savinho. It emerged at the beginning of this week that Tottenham had begun talks with Manchester City over signing the Brazilian international. Initially, it seemed that City had no interest in selling Savinho. But now a new report indicates that Tottenham are set to return with an improved offer for the young winger. It has also been reported that Manchester City has set its asking price to sell Savinho.

Tottenham look set to return with an offer to sign Savinho from Manchester City.

Jack Gaughan has reported for the Daily Mail that Tottenham are set to test Manchester City’s resolve to keep Savinho. Furthermore, Gaughan reports that City have knocked back Tottenham’s initial enquiry to sign the Brazilian international. It is believed that City will only consider bids over £50 million to sell the young winger. Gaughan also reports that Savinho is uncertain about his future role in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Lastly, Gaughan adds that Manchester City will move for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo if Savinho does leave the club.

Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola has reported that Manchester City hopes to receive a transfer fee of around £67 million for Savinho. Furthermore, Jorge Nicola reports that Tottenham initially hoped to pay £42 million for the talented young winger. Jorge Nicola revealed that he had received the following information from Savinho’s agent before recording his YouTube show.

The ball is in Tottenham’s court to offer what Manchester City wants to sign a Brazilian international.

It is now up to Tottenham to match Manchester City’s asking price if they hope to sign Savinho. The terms of the deal appear to have been set. Realistically, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Manchester City accept an offer of between £50-67 million. Add-ons will likely also factor into the equation. But Manchester City’s terms are clear. If they are met Savinho will likely leave Pep Guardiola’s side.

The other interesting piece of information is that Savinho is uncertain of his future role in Pep Guardiola’s squad. There is no indication that Savinho would be on the periphery of thr City first-team. He was a prominent player in his debut season at the club. But perhaps the return of Oscar Bobb from injury and City’s signing of Rayan Cherki has created doubt in Savinho’s mind. That remains to be seen.
