Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur player ratings

Mike Penders: 5 — Two nice saves in the first half and an excellent read on a through ball to act as a sweeper keeper on another Spurs foray. But his wayward punch turned own goal will live long in the memory.

Levi Colwill: 7.5 — So good along with Lacroix.

Maxence Lacroix: 8.5 — Acheampong’s still young, but there’s little doubt that Lacroix and Colwill can be a force for years to come. Lacroix dominated the heart of the Chelsea third and pushed forward at times, too.

Josh Acheampong: 6.5 — Some fine plays as he showed more promise but may be the weakest part of a strong back three.

Jorell Hato (Off 65'): 6.5 — Showed plenty of pace and industry but was just 4-of-10 in duels.

Jordan Henderson: 5.5 — Not the veteran’s day, with a few too many loose passes for comfort.

Moises Caicedo: 7.5 — Very good in the middle of the park, breaking up chances and reading the game well.

Pedro Neto (Off 88'): 6.5 — A wonderful first half going forward and back as he helped deal with Spurs’ left-sided plans but he’ll rue the moments he could’ve conjured more magic to put Chelsea on the scoreboard.

Geovany Quenda (Off 73'): 5 — Far too quiet with just 30 touches in 73 minutes.

Cole Palmer (Red card 80'): 4 — A moment or two in attack but two moments attacking Spurs players see him gone. He was fortunate to avoid a red card for a foul against prone Mateus Fernandes. Then his late bid to win a loose ball saw his studs into the ankle of a Spurs player and that was too much.

Morgan Rogers: 5 — Very quiet without Joao Pedro.

Subs

Marco Palestra (On 65'): 6

Estevao Willian (On 73'): 6.5

Danny Welbeck (On 88'): N/A

Tottenham Hotspur player ratings at Chelsea

Antonin Kinsky: 6.5 — Multiple errors with his feet but made amends with saves to bail himself out of the jams. Three saves in the first half.

Andy Robertson (Off 65'): 6.5 — Good and bright early as Spurs had a lot of luck down the left but ran out of steam/fitness.

Micky van de Ven: 7.5 — Tidy and economical with a few big moments, too. Eleven total recoveries on 58 touches.

Jan Paul van Hecke: 7.5 — Excellent moving the ball forward, covering so much ground on the right as well.

Archie Gray: 6.5 — Efficient and useful on both flanks.

Sandro Tonali: 6.5 — Fernandes brought out the best of him with some freedom to roam and take some risks.

Mateus Fernandes: 9 — His 60 first-half touches led the game and he continued to run things over 90 minutes. He hit 100 touches before anyone else hit 85 and his 13 defensive contributions were also a game-high.

Mathys Tel (Off 89'): 8 — Spurs dynamic first half was led by his electricity down the left.

James Maddison (Off 51'): 6.5 — So bright and a key to Spurs’ control and threat over the first 45 minutes, an injury to his upper leg or lower trunk cast a pall over the proceedings.

Mohammed Kudus (Off 89'): 7 — Dribbled and moved well to create danger without eschewing his defensive duties.

Omar Marmoush (Off 65'): 5 — Did some good in arriving to dangerous places but has to convert his big chance. Instead, he gave Mike Penders a save and confidence.
