A Spanish journalist has refuted suggestions that Atletico Madrid’s dream of signing Cristian Romero is now collapsing, explaining why the upcoming days could prove decisive for the La Liga club in getting a deal for the Tottenham centre-back over the line.
While Spanish outlets previously treated it as almost a foregone conclusion that Romero is on his way to Atletico Madrid this summer, the situation appears to have changed over the last few days.
In fact, it was claimed by Sport a couple of days ago that Atletico’s dream of signing Romero is fading away due to Tottenham’s hardline stance.
The outlet explained that following Spurs’ Europa League win, Daniel Levy is reluctant to even enter into negotiations for the Argentine.
Meeting expected between Tottenham and Atletico Madrid soon
Journalist Ruben Uria revealed on his Twitch channel that the deal is anything but dead, with a meeting expected between the two clubs over the coming days.
The journalist says that the transfer is “alive” and the coming days could be “decisive” in determining whether Romero’s move to the Metropolitano Stadium will go through.
Atletico’s CEO Gil Marin is expected to meet with Daniel Levy within the next few days to discuss whether there is any room for negotiations.

The journalist adds that Romero believes that a change of scenery would be positive for his career and family life, having spent four years in London.
