Tottenham Hotspur will hold fresh talks with captain Cristian Romero about his future after the World Cup final, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
Spurs have had a busy summer window with six arrivals so far, as Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali have all arrived to bolster Roberto De Zerbi's squad following another 17th-placed finish in the Premier League.
But now the club are beginning to look at exits too to help balance the squad, and it's expected that Argentina international Romero will be one star who is on the move.
Tottenham and Romero to Hold Fresh Talks
Fabrizio Romano reported recently that it had been confirmed that the central defender will be leaving the north London club this summer, with Spurs already planning for his departure by signing Senesi and Van Hecke in this window.
Romero has been representing Argentina at the World Cup, with the 28-year-old forced off injured in the final as they were beaten 1-0 by Spain after extra-time. But with the tournament now over, Romano has revealed in his latest YouTube video that the player and club will hold new talks over his future in the coming weeks.
"Cuti Romero will leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window," he said.
"After this World Cup, it's going to be time for new contacts between Romero, his camp, and Tottenham to decide about the exit. The plan is for the exit of Cuti Romero.
"Inter are interested, Barcelona are interested in case they sell a defender. So if a defender leaves, Barcelona can think about Cuti Romero. So these two clubs are there.
"Let's see if more clubs join the race. But Cuti Romero is fully expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur."
Romero Has No Spurs Future
In an ideal world, Romero would be staying at Tottenham for the foreseeable future and would be able to put his disciplinary issues behind him to lead the club into the new era.
But in reality, he has already checked out of the club, and fans have already made peace with the fact that he will be on the move. Replacements have been signed and everyone is looking forward.
Romero's contributions in recent years will be remembered fondly, but the talks should not be for anything other than to help him move on, rather than try and convince him to stay, and in the coming weeks there will surely be movement on this situation.
