He's "very similar to Kane": £22m star now wants to sign for Spurs

Harry Kane has got what he wanted. After a fruitless, yet prolific spell as Tottenham Hotspur's undisputed talisman, the England skipper is now reaping the rewards of his decision to leave back in 2023.

Claiming Bundesliga titles - of which he now has two - is no significant story considering the might of Bayern Munich, although it is the manner in which Kane has done it which has been particularly impressive.

Already up to 51 goals for the season in all competitions, the 32-year-old has 136 in 139 games in total for the German giants, reaffirming his status as arguably the game's best number nine right now.

Back in north London, meanwhile, the wait goes on for a genuine successor to the academy graduate to emerge, with Dominic Solanke and co just not quite cutting it as things stand.

£22m star wants to join Spurs regardless of relegation

Saturday provided a much-improved performance for Roberto De Zerbi's men against Brighton and Hove Albion, although the forward line is still struggling to click into gear.

Indeed, starting striker Solanke has netted just three Premier League goals in what has been an injury-hit campaign, while Randal Kolo Muani has scored only once in the top-flight following his loan switch from Paris Saint-Germain.

Reinforcements are required, although much will depend on whether or not the Lilywhites can be dragged to safety, even if the likes of James Trafford are believed to be keen on the move regardless.

Fellow rising star, Troy Parrott, is also believed to fall into that category, with football.london's Alasdair Gold reporting that the ex-Spurs starlet wants to re-join his former side this summer, even if they fall into the Championship.

As noted by Gold, the Republic of Ireland star was sold on to AZ Alkmaar for just £6.7m in the summer of 2024, a deal that included a 20% sell-on clause, with the 24-year-old now valued at closer to €25m (£22m).

The report suggests that a raft of elite clubs are taking a look at him, namely Napoli, Real Betis, Bayer Leverkusen and Ajax, although Parrott himself appears to be open to settling some unfinished business back at N17.

Why Parrott could be the long-awaited successor to Kane

It remains remarkable to think that Ange Postecoglou was able to steer Spurs to a fifth-place finish in the immediate aftermath of Kane's exit, even with a direct replacement for the club's record scorer having not been signed until the following summer.

That patience hasn't exactly paid off, it must be said, with the eventual arrival - Solanke - scoring just 12 league goals in two seasons now in north London.

Richarlison, meanwhile, has netted 25 league goals in his four-season stay at the club, ensuring centre-forward should certainly be the real priority heading into this summer.

Whether Parrott can be that long-awaited successor to Kane remains to be seen, with his previous stint at the club only yielding four first-team appearances, having been sent out on a string of loan spells prior to his permanent departure two years ago.

It didn't work out as planned first time around, although the Irishman has certainly flourished since then, scoring 50 goals in just 92 games at AZ, after previously netting 17 in 32 at Excelsior back in 2023/24.

Like Kane in his youth, his prior loan stints in England's EFL weren't exactly stellar, scoring just 16 goals across his time at Millwall, MK Dons, Preston and Ipswich, although that lower league experience appears to have done him the world of good amid his current exploits.

This season, in particular, Parrott has been prolific in Dutch football, scoring or assisting 41 times in just 45 games in all competitions, only recently netting in the final to claim KNVB Cup glory for his side.

At international level too, the Dubliner has emerged as a centre-piece of an improving side, hitting 11 in 35 senior caps to date, including his five-goal spree against Portugal and Hungary in World Cup qualifying.

He's an elite, proven goalscorer for both club and country now, while also boasting a real creative instinct too, with Gold noting that he would perfectly fit De Zerbi's high-press set-up.

In the view of one prominent Premier League analyst, he is so "similar to Harry Kane", boding well for the impact he can make if afforded consistent game time back at N17.

As things stand, Parrott very much appears like the one that got away as far as Tottenham are concerned, although the £22m-rated striker's willingness to return could open the door for a second act.
