‘I spoke with Ange Postecoglou, this is what he regrets about post-Tottenham move’

Ange Postecoglou remains a well-loved figure among the Tottenham fanbase.

When Thomas Frank was appointed to replace Postecoglou last summer, the former Brentford boss was supposed to return Tottenham back to competing towards the top-end of the Premier League.

However, following Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Burnley last Saturday, Spurs are once again battling away at the wrong end of the table, as they currently occupy 14th place.

Unsurprisingly so, Frank is now facing the sack in N17, and with the Lilywhites’ next five games against Man City, Man United, Newcastle, Arsenal and Fulham, it’s hard to see where that next league win is coming from.

Ange Postecoglou opens up on post-Tottenham decisions

Postecoglou’s Tottenham reign was certainly a uniquely strange one.

MORE SPURS STORIES

After leading the team to a fifth-placed finish in 2023-24, his side plummeted to a disastrous 2024-25 campaign that saw them come 17th.

But, as bad as a season it was domestically, it was a year that saw silverware be brought back from the continent, with Postecoglou delivering Tottenham with a Europa League trophy.

For that reason, he does still have credit in the bank in North London, with some speculating Postecoglou could return to Tottenham if Frank does get sacked.

After being axed by Spurs in June 2025, Postecoglou quickly found himself back in a Premier League job, taking on the role of Nottingham Forest manager in early September of last year.

However, after just 39 days in charge at the City Ground, and with no wins from his eight games at the helm, he was ruthlessly sacked in October.

And, in a recent chat on The Go Radio Football Show, former Rangers defender Craig Moore revealed he’d caught up with Postecoglou, and he disclosed some fascinating insight on how he feels about his post-Spurs decision to join Nottingham Forest.

“I went to the Melbourne Derby in Australia, and I was in the box with both Ange Postecoglou and Kevin Muscat,” Moore said.

“That was good, we enjoyed the game and I had a good opportunity to speak with both of them. Ange was obviously talking about how much he loved his time at Celtic, but potentially (he) jumped in a little too soon with Nottingham Forest.

“All coaches have huge belief in themselves, but with hindsight he said ‘I should have taken a little bit more time’. But we know he is going to fall in OK.”

Hindsight always wins – Postecoglou shouldn’t blame himself for taking Forest job

Only 20 people can be Premier League managers at any one time, and so when an opportunity to become or indeed stay as one presents itself, it takes a brave soul to turn it down.

Nottingham Forest had just finished seventh in the Premier League in 2024-25, and so although they’d had a disappointing start to the season, this was still a fantastic job and opportunity for Postecoglou.

Forest have some exceptional players in their ranks, and it’s a historic football club with a huge fanbase to connect with, and so Postecoglou shouldn’t blame himself whatsoever for grasping that opportunity with both hands.

Hindsight always wins, but it’s only a matter of time before Postecoglou is back in a top job somewhere, and whenever he feels that he’s ready to get back in, of course.
