Joe Gomez was forced off with an injury during Liverpool’s clash against Brighton.
The defender had to be replaced in the 26th minute of the Anfield encounter as the Reds led 1-0. Gomez earned the assist for Hugo Ekitike’s opening goal after just 49 seconds.
But midway through the first half, Liverpool’s longest-serving player went to ground with an issue and could not continue after being assessed by the club’s medical staff. Gomez was replaced by Mo Salah, who returned to Arne Slot’s squad having been omitted for the 1-0 Champions League triumph against Inter Milan at the San Siro earlier in the week.
Gomez could now be a doubt for next weekend’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur. Against Brighton, Slot was already without a recognised right-back, with Conor Bradley serving a one-match suspension and Jeremie Frimpong sidelined with a hamstring injury. Cody Gakpo, Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni are also currently unavailable.
Slot will provide a full update on Gomez after the Brighton game.
