Lucas Bergvall has refused to confirm or deny that his new Tottenham Hotspur contract contains a release clause. Bergvall ended doubts over his long-term future by signing a new contract at Tottenham earlier this month.
The midfielder was the subject of bids from Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United this summer after he made clear his unhappiness over a lack of minutes in his favoured position during a difficult 2025/26 campaign. However, after being handed minutes at the start of the season by Roberto De Zerbi, the Sweden international decided to extend his stay in North London.
When asked if his new deal included a release clause, the 20-year-old told the Swedish media outlet Fotboll Skanalen : “Is that what you want to hear? That’s not something I’m going to say.”

He added: “Last year was tough, and that was reflected quite a bit in how things went. But I’ve always had a good dialogue with the club and am incredibly happy to have signed a new deal.

“I let time do the talking. I didn’t try to force anything, just tried to be happy. I’ve always had a good dialogue with the club.”
After putting pen to paper on his new deal earlier this month, Bergvall said: “I think we’re building something great here. It’s an exciting time for the club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract.
“I’m always trying to achieve as much as possible, to be the best version of myself both on and off the pitch and I know this is the right place to do that.
“Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team – performances, goals and assists – to help as much as I can. I’m getting better every day in training and I’m looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead."
