Tottenham has been in a surprise relegation battle in the 2025/26 Premier League season with just a few games left, but recent wins have improved their odds of staying up. More than one player’s future appears closely tied to whether they remain in the top flight. Micky van de Ven has roughly three years remaining on his current deal, with no release clause reported.
Micky’s salary is in the region of £90,000–£100,000 per week, and Tottenham would likely demand a significant fee, and reports have mentioned £60M–£100M+ if he were sold.
Micky van de Ven is contracted to Tottenham Hotspur until 30 June 2029, a six-year deal signed upon his arrival from Wolfsburg in August 2023.
A recent report from journalist Ben Jacobs, as of ~2–3 days ago, indicates van de Ven is “extremely open” to signing a new contract if Spurs avoid relegation this season. He is reportedly very happy with current manager Roberto De Zerbi, whose arrival has boosted both his mood and the team’s survival chances.
“You have a profile like Micky Van de ven that Spurs really want to fight to keep if they go down. That’s going to be very difficult, but I tell you something, if Tottenham stay up, my information is that Micky Van de Ven is extremely open signing a new deal.
“Now he’s very happy with Roberto De Zerbi as manager, and De Zerbi coming in has enhanced the chances of Tottenham staying up, that Van de Ven signs a new deal, and [Cristian] Romero still goes.”
At 6’4″ with exceptional pace for a centre-back, he excels in recovery defending, covering ground, and contributing offensively. It is worth noting that he’s scored goals from set pieces and open play. Micky’s stats are impressive: with roughly 32 Premier League starts, 4 goals, 1 assist, high minutes (~2,773 in PL), solid tackling/interceptions/clearances, and involvement in clean sheets. He’s been a regular starter under varying managers.
Our View
As ever, this news from Ben Jacobs has been grasped in the most positive light. The core message is that he’d be keen to sign a new deal. But that’s only if we stay up. That’s a pretty one-sided take. One could equally say that Micky is off, without a look over his shoulder, were we to go down.
